Vendetta In Death - J.D. Robb

The sign in Lieutenant Eve Dallas's bullpen should also include a phrase, " ...OR CHARACTER, WE PROTECT..." Because once again Dallas, Roarke, Peabody, Feeney, and McNabb must stand for victims that are far from innocent.

Vendetta In Death takes the Me Too movement and deftly combines it with an unstable personality which ends up creating a vigilante. A serial killer bent on cleansing New York of the men who perpetrate crimes against women. Rather than making sure they face actual justice our vigilante, calling herself Lady Justice, dispences her own in a very public fashion. Now it's up to Dallas and her team to find the killer before she strikes again.    

This is a fast fun read. Perhaps not as dense as some of the installments in the In Death Series, it is still satisfying. Even better, it furthers the storylines of a couple of the regular cast members, which is always fun to read.

P.S. Robb also dispenses with the boilerplate introductions of her characters in this book! Which I must say moved the book along better and for us, long-time readers it was a fantastic improvement to the story!

P.P.S. A girl needs to change it up every now and again - hence the more modern book!

I'm sorry I haven't watched any Dsmp streams in like 2ish months, what is the deathbook and who owns it?

The Death Book is actually from a lore stream way back in December 2021. It's basically DreamXD's Death Note, the second book besides the revival book.

Later on, Sapnap found it on a piece of bedrock in Dream's old house and tried to test the boundaries of the rules, but in doing so accidentally used it three times. DreamXD was going to kill him (and really kill him, as in no Limbo afterwards), but Sapnap talked him into a deal:

Sapnap wants to kill Dream. if DreamXD told him where Dream was, Sapnap could go kill him and finish the will of the book. Once Dream dies, Sapnap would also die, but Dream would become a ghost while Sapnap is just gone forever.

DreamXD told Sapnap about Dream living in the prison, so Sapnap's been after him ever since.

Since Foolish gained DreamXD's friendship with his statue, XD also told Foolish about the book. Sapnap knows that Foolish knows and so Sapnap kind of wants Foolish dead but also if Sapnap dies then the book is gone so Foolish doesn't want Sapnap dead. And if Dream dies then Sapnap dies and the revive book and death book are lost, so Foolish is trying to keep both of them alive but also wants both books for himself.

Foolish went into life debt by over-using his immortality, so now basically both Foolish and Sapnap are in debt to DreamXD. Foolish has a plan to hire Dream as a hitman to get XD the deaths he's owed, while Sapnap is trying to kill Dream to make good on his promise.

And now Aimsey, who had no idea who Dream was two days ago, is also after the revive book.

every life taken counts and adds some unknown number of lives to foolish's immortality. which is why foolish quite literally asked dream to kill more people, lol. and thus was the stream where dream, foolish, sapnap, george, and aimsey ran in circles for like an hour, the only person who died for real was george (shot by dream), but sapnap was spawnkilling aimsey so he could use the deathbook without getting instantly smote. she didn't lose a canon life, tho.

Nightmare

Battleaxe, Legendary (Requires Attunment)

Deals an extra 2d8+2 Psychic damage. On a 19-20, target must make DC 25 Wisdom saving throw. On a failure the target takes a level of exhaustion and rolls 1d4+1. The target loses that many hit dice, and the user rolls them to heal.

Four Point Halo

Wondrous Item, Legendary (Requires Attunement), Must Not Be True Neutral

While Attuned, the Halo floats above the users’s head, and they are permanently under the effects of the Calm Emotion Spell.

When the user has Any Evil Alignment: the halo turns black and the user gains Necrotic Shroud as an at will ability.

When the user has Any Neutral Alignment: the halo gains grey stripes and the user gains Radiant Consumption as an at will ability.

When the user has Any Good Alignment: the halo turns white and the user gains Radiant Soul as an at will ability.

The Laughing Deathbook

Wondrous Item, Legendary (Requires Attunment)

For every kill of a sapient humanoid add a Soul Token to the book. The book can cast from the Life Cleric Spell list, costing Soul Tokens equal to the Spell Level. Mark off 1 Soul Token every 72 Hours.
