When the first DS2 trailer dropped I did this test build of Higgs' guitar and the Amelie mask. (Holy shit, that was back in December 2022😱) I know it doesn't look spectacular but I made it literally from cardboard scratch. Had fun while doing it. Although it did cost a good amount of my sanity cuz the reference material was awful Dx I was quite unhappy with the outcome so these two props were rotting in some forgotten corner ever since, until today xD After that insane new trailer I had to dig them back up.

I'm still kinda working on my Death Stranding cosplay but my focus shifted a bit. I have other projects to finish first.

Higgs from death stranding is so wild cause I beat the first game recently and i didn't really read or collect many of the interviews so the entire game presented him to be as just this batshit insane nihilistic terrorist with an almost cartoonishly desire to end life itself.

And then you go and actually read the journal entries that are his backstory and while he is still all of those things you learn he's also kind of the victim here between his childhood and constant exposure to death and BTs of COURSE he would grow up hateful of humanity and be "seduced" by someone who can give him godlike powers and promise extinction.

And then Sam comes into the picture and you can feel the jealousy being implied at in the story. Why does she pay attention to him and not me. Why does she love him and not me. The room full of pictures of Sam is insane when you read into everything and look at the bigger picture. He's not just obsessed with Sam, but he's so deeply jealous that Amelie genuinely loves Sam and not him that it's literally driving him insane.

Higgs isn't a one dimensional "crazy terrorist" antagonist like the cutscenes suggest. He's a scared, traumatized little boy who just wants to belong somewhere and is immediately swept up by the one person who is able to manipulate him by giving him unlimited power and a way to get back at humanity itself for "wronging" him. He isn't some grand criminal mastermind like the game tells you at first. He's a victim, yet another pawn in Amelie's game. It just sucks literally all of this is only found in the supplementary material.

So here's the knife fully done, with rivets (hammered nails) holding it together

The coat locket thing (I used a plastic headband which I sandpapered, painted gold and added little hooks )

The coats pattern (I used frisket and white acrylic)

Lil quipus I made with wool for the suit

And for the rest;

-tomorrow I'll work on the odradek with my stepdad

-i started sculpting a mask using whitemorph plastic but it's really hard so I'll see if I can use a mold or something

-i have an idea for the armour, based on a belt + suspenders, I'll put fabric around some polystyrene/foam and it should work fine

-idk how to make Amélies necklace :(

-idk if I'll make a tutorial for the Odradek bc it'll be a bit complicated so I'll just send some pictures of the process if it works out

So I made Higgs' cloak by hand :)

I looked on the web for long and never found any guide do I thought I'd make it myself

I'm going to make a full cosplay of Higgs but I'll update this post or reblog it as it goes :3c

Anyways here's how I proceeded for the cloak

So first of all : I didn't use the model from the game because it would've been to hard to remake and probably wouldn't work ;

Here's the in-game shape

It's basically a square of fabric that is held back by his Odradek, you can guess with how the hood is part of the cape

And here's my edited version

Im not an experienced cosplayer or sewer so I went for something that wouldn't move too much, by separating the hood and the cape (and made the two points symmetrical because I thought it was prettier )

In total I paid 45€ for all the fabric I used :

2×2 metres of duchess satin for the outside (it has a nice reflection effect and it's solid enough it's great!!!)

2×2 metres of simple cotton fabric for the lining

And 0.05×15 metres of golden ribbon

So first of all I made a pattern our of newspapers and adhesive tape;

I wanted it whole in order to try it on on my shoulder but half is probably enough

Measurements were 120cm for the horizontal length and for the vertical it depends on your height and how you want it (mine is 130cm and goes down to below my knees, I'm 175cm tall)

I cut the main fabric (duchess satin) to try it on and adjust as needed

Then I cut the hood shape in the main fabric (it's easy to find patterns online if you want a specific shape )

Sew both hood sides together only for the back and top of the head !!

I really wanna go to a game convention someday. And I hope that when that day comes I'll feel better about presenting myself more openly. Even if it's as small as wearing a Nonbinary Pride pin or smthn. I've thought about trying to piece together a cosplay of Sam from Death Stranding. (If I could get my beard groomed up as sexy as Norman Reedus' goatee I would be so fucking happy)
