Madam sea-owl,
How does Violet take the news that her Daughter who swore would never marry, gets drunk and marries a single dad?
How does Eloise break it to the family?
Dear Anon,
You may be surprised to know that Eloise doesn't even get a chance to tell her family. Some of them know before she does because in her drunken wisdom, Eloise thought it would be a great idea to post her wedding on social media.
This leads to a flood of missed calls and texts Eloise doesn't see because her phone died. There's a mixed reaction among the family. Anger, confusion, and worry are the top three.
Anthony is pissed, with as influential as their family is Eloise knows better than to preform this kind of stunt. He is also woried because as far as the family knew Eloise wasn't even dating now after going on a work trip she's married?
Violet and Daphne are worried mostly for Eloise. This is essentially a stranger that no one knows that Eloise is married to. Is she okay? Is she safe? That's their priority at the moment.
Francesca is mainly confused. That's definitely Michael in the background of that video. How come he didn't tell her that Eloise was dating someone? Of all the scandalous stories he could have told her he forgot this one? And is that why Michael was so admant for Francesca not to set him up with Eloise? Did he know Eloise and this mystery man were dating?
Hyacinth and Gregory are exchanging money in the background. They had bet for a long time Eloise would end up eloping.
When Eloise eventually gets a hold of her family, Anthony informs her they can't get annulled yet. Because of the media frenzy surrounding Eloise's wedding post, they have to wait for things to die down so they can avoid more scandal. Eloise and Phillip will have to lay low and work with the Bridgerton PR team to make sure this dies down as quick as possible.
Phillip agrees to do whatever the PR team says so long as his kids are kept out of it. He will not have his kids' faces plastered all over the internet.

We recorded this record, Kingdom, with our dear brother Kirk Franklin, during one of the largest prison gatherings in American history. We decided to go behind bars to not just highlight the pain of mass incarceration, but to demonstrate God’s love in a way that you don’t see very often,” shares Maverick City Music co-founders & GRAMMY Award-winning producers and songwriters, Tony Brown and Jonathan “JJ” Jay. “Of course we want to thank Kirk, our entire team, the staff and residents at Everglades correctional facility, Wardens Colon and Siegler, Tribl Records, and RCA Inspiration,” they continue. “And, we have to thank all of our fans and supporters. To God be the glory.” The collective recently kicked off the second leg of their box-office record-shattering ‘Kingdom Tour’ with Kirk Franklin at a sold out Barclays Center in New York City. Loki joined the staff of the world-renowned prehistoric theme park only several months before the incident, though he dreamed of working in Jurassic World since its opening in 2005.
He was adopted into a family of Norse mythology-loving parents when he was an infant, and was named Loki as a result. His brother, Thor, also works at the park. Although he never met his biological parents, he found out his birth mother had a brother who worked at the original park. Loki never got a chance to meet Jurassic Park’s game warden, Robert Muldoon, though the man’s life is still of tremendous interest to him.
He seemed to have inherited his Uncle’s love of large predators, much to the dismay of his adoptive parents, who’d dearly hoped he’d pursue Norse mythology and culture. Loki does share a strong love for his supposedly-Viking roots, but his true calling was prehistoric animals and ecosystems. Rene and Anthony, whom their friends sometimes referred to as Frigga and Odin, still had boxes upon boxes of dinosaur toys and books from Loki’s childhood in the attic. Anthony in particular did not approve of Loki’s career choice, but Rene embraced it.
Loki gathered degrees in paleontology, zoology, and spent many years in the field studying large, predatory cats. He helped design exhibits for tigers, jaguars, leopards, and fishing cats. He’d just finished several months of frigid research on snow leopards, studying them to better understand what one would need to thrive in an enclosure, when he’d received the call from Claire Dearing.
Both the head of exhibit design and the head of asset containment were leaving, and Ms. Dearing thought him capable of filling both positions. Loki was thrilled at the prospect of creating habitats for the creatures he’d loved since he was a child, though was decidedly less excited about the prospect of asset containment.
Dearing quickly made plans to promote someone else from asset containment internally when he pushed back the Indominus Rex project by several months, insisting they build the walls higher before he would even consider putting in his approval for the project. They needed his approval as the head of exhibit design, which he was refusing to give based on the fact he had no idea what sort of animal he was dealing with. The fact that it was part Tyrannosaurus was not nearly enough to satisfy him, as, following that logic, the domestic chicken was also part Tyrannosaurus. How could he possibly approve an exhibit for something that might fall somewhere between those two extremes?
While he was still technically part of asset containment, his primary role was exhibit design and maintenance. His priority was the welfare of the animals, not the profit of the park. As a predator expert himself, he fell hard and fast for the four Velociraptors under Owen Grady's care, and made friends with both him and Gabriel Agnolo, who specialized in the raptors' vocalizations. Since new exhibits were not being constructed every day, Loki took rotations at the raptor paddock. He helped with training, and Gabriel's research. While Echo was indifferent and bordered on hostile, Delta and Blue tolerated him. Charlie, the green raptor who was born third in the pack, took a liking to Loki. He was sometimes called by Owen or Gabriel when she was being particularly uncooperative, as she tended to mind him more.
On the day of the incident, Claire had hoped Masrani would accept Owen's approval as enough of a green light to push forward with the Indominus Rex exhibit without Loki's dissent. When the hybrid escaped, and Owen relayed what happened during his trip back to the control room, Loki called and demanded they use lethal force to stop her before she killed any more people or animals. Masrani stripped him of his position as the head of asset containment then and there, giving Claire the authority to override his command.
Loki had joined Owen and Grady when Hoskins took over and demanded they use the four raptors to track the Indominus. And realized far too late the damned hybrid had been constructed with Velociraptor DNA. Loki was very nearly captured and killed by Echo, who was only distracted by an ACU soldier attempting to shoot her. The soldier was attacked and Loki was able to escape. He'd reunited with Owen long enough to find Charlie, who recognized them both, and watch her be destroyed with a rocket.
Loki was separated from Owen in the chaos, and managed to make the harrowing trek back to the resort. He had just reached the midway when a massive set of jaws closed around his midsection, but not with full force. The Indominus dropped him before fully closing her jaw, distracted by the calls of the three remaining raptors nearby. Whether it was lack of appetite, or the knowledge that humans were not challenging prey, she lost interest in Loki before it even truly began. Severely wounded, Loki had crawled toward Delta's warbled cries for help, if for nothing else the knowledge he wouldn't die alone.
Blue later found them both, and recognized Loki from his rotations at the paddock. She later led Gabriel to both her injured sister and the broken man.
FALLEN KINGDOM
Loki, a member of the Dinosaur Protection Group, was working at the San Francisco Zoo when Claire Dearing approached him. With the inevitable volcanic eruption on Isla Nublar, time was of the essence if she and Lockwood's team were to capture both Blue and Delta, the last velociraptors on earth. While Delta had a far stronger bond with Gabriel, they both knew in addition to his twins, his wife, Dr. Seraphina Pitchiner, was pregnant. Although Loki was in a surprisingly stable relationship with another Jurassic World survivor, he didn't have nearly as much to lose.
Between his weak bond with the raptor who had not seen him in three years, and the inevitable eruption, it seemed unlikely he would return from this expedition in one piece. If at all.
Loki was sent with a far smaller team to retrieve Delta, which they claimed was due to her limitations after being bitten by the Indominus. The velociraptor recognized Loki, but was untrusting until he played back raptor calls Gabriel had recorded years ago. But Eli Mills wasn't interested in saving both Delta and Blue, particularly when Blue was in better physical condition. Both Delta and Loki were tranquilized, and a blood sample of Delta was taken before Mills' team left them behind.
He and Delta had been stranded near the old docks where the ferries used to be stored when not in use. It had been part of a PR campaign for safety, having the ferries overhauled to be operated with extreme ease in case of an emergency. They also required little gas and were largely solar powered. It was still an extremely narrow escape, and Loki had barely managed to get the boat running before the dock was all but destroyed. Delta was given treats until she could be coaxed into one of the large cages that used to transport livestock for the carnivores. Loki didn't know how long they might be stranded on this boat, which could stop running after three years of sitting idle. If he ran out of treats, he'd be the only thing left for the raptor to eat.
To err on the side of precaution, Loki diverted the ferry to nearby Isla Muerta, which was also owned by InGen. It had never housed dinosaurs and had been abandoned after the incident in 2015, but it still had a basic facility for storage -- and a satellite phone.
Loki was not involved in the incident at the Lockwood manor, and seeks to help those illegally housing and protecting the dinosaurs unleashed in the country.

COFFEE TALK [with Michael Kauffman]
“Ive worked in music and technology during my career, largely in sales, marketing, and PR roles. I love to connect artists and companies with fans and customers -- and have been doing that in tech (YouTube on the marketing team and at Google via corporate communications), at start-ups like RightsFlow (a rights management and licensing company acquired by Google), and earlier in my career at labels and distribution companies like UMG, Verve, BMG, and Windham Hill.”
Q: What are a few of your favorite “industry moments?”
I loved spending time on the road with artists earlier in my career. While at Windham Hill in the mid-90’s, I joined Keola Beamer, Ledward Kaapana, and a few other Hawaiian slack key guitar icons on a series of dates up the eastern seaboard. It was one of the first times I spent a lot of time with a band who I had limited prior knowledge about. Pre-internet days. Not only did I fall in love with that music, but I got to introduce the band and crew to PA-breakfast-fave scrapple while eating at the Melrose Diner in Philadelphia. While at Verve, we arranged for the amazingly gifted vocalist Al Jarreau (RIP Al) to host the Music Biz Annual Conference Awards Dinner one year concurrent with his new release. Al arrived in San Antonio with a serious bout of the flu, and we didn’t know whether he’d be able to speak, let alone take the stage. But after a few hours of sweating it out, focused rest, home-brewed tea, and a mind-over-matter attitude, Al took the microphone and blew everyone away with his grace, wit, and charm.
I was fortunate during those years at Verve to work with a top-notch sales team (Tony Pellegrino, Jon Vanhala, Lisa Hopkins, Mark Callaghan, Jeff Lusis, Kim Smith, Missy Iredell), self-branded “The Jazz Pack”. We adopted a song-and-dance approach to many of our sales presentations and had a blast singing-while-selling our releases (I like to say that we were the last of the singin’ sales guys). Flashback to Los Angeles in 2001. The Universal Music and Video Distribution Conference was being held at the Century Plaza Hotel, and we were scheduled, along with all the other UMG labels, to present our upcoming releases to our friends at distribution. Instead of a generic video presentation, we opted to host an awards show called “The Tommy’s” (named for our beloved label Chairman Tommy LiPuma, industry icon, producer, and true music maker) packed with curated categories, spoof videos, and actual live performances highlighting our artists and releases.
The opening song-and-dance number involved us wearing Adidas tear-away track suits worn over tuxedos, doing a bit of choreographed dancing along with a backup crew consisting of the XFL’s LA Xtreme cheerleading squad. It culminated with Tommy himself being led through the curtains of the stage and down to his front-row seat amidst a rousing standing ovation (Tommy’s entrance is ~4:29 in this YouTube videohttps://youtu.be/Y09IwrNHO8Q). Furthermore, there was also an ice sculpture of Tommy, a raucous afterparty, the USC Fighting Trojan Marching Band performing "Tequila", balloons falling from the ceiling, and hundreds of customized Tommy bobbleheads that were presented to all in attendance. I vividly remember Tommy saying to me right before we stepped onto the stage: “Mikey! What's going on here babe?!” Most fun I ever had in a sales presentation. What a cool experience to work with that team and Tommy.
Another highlight happened at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City in early 2014: I spearheaded the music integration at our YouTube on Main Street pop-up experience. It was one of the more stressful planning periods I’ve endured — late nights, intense conversations, negotiations to book acts, and everything in between — but the effort was ultimately rewarded with goose-bump-inducing performances from Damon Albarn (“There’s no way we can fit a string quartet and a large keyboard on that small stage.”), Venus And The Moon (who asked me to rehearse with them in the parking garage), Carina Round, Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion, Sleeping At Last, Matthew Perryman Jones and Kate Tucker (many artists via a Paste partnership — thanks Josh Jackson), and a few roof-raising late-nite DJ sets from Young Guru, Neon Indian, and LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy -- who's agent phoned me on the day of his set to tell me he was stuck in Chicago due to snow. He arrived just in time to walk on the stage and start spinning records! It all came together and was magical. Plus so many other highlights: a post-dinner celebratory “toast” with Cheap Trick in Chicago, dinner in the Sinatra room at Patsy’s in NYC with Jamie Cullum, and of course live experiences like The Subdudes at Tipitina’s in New Orleans.
Q: If you were to make a playlist of the songs that are part of your DNA, the comfort food that you keep coming back to, that never fail to move and inspire you, what would those tracks be?
It would have to be a playlist of playlists… how many songs do I get?
Can I have 20 - 25? I love the Great American Songbook: Frank, Ella, Billie, Dean, Sammy, Tony, Dinah, along with Miles, Coltrane, Bird, Bill Evans, Ben Webster, Basie, and all the jazz masters. Here's a happy hour playlist assembled by Ken Druker, our head of catalog while I was at Verve. He curated this “Jazz Pack Supertunes” compilation for our crew back in the late 90’s: Frank Sinatra & Count Basie - Come Fly With Me Dean Martin - Ain't That A Kick In The Head Buddy Greco - Around The World Bobby Darin - More Sammy Davis, Jr. - Hey There Jack Jones - You'd Better Love Me Count Basie - All Of Me Frank Sinatra - That's Life Eartha Kitt - C'est Si Bon Tom Jones - It's Not Unusual Perez Prado - Mambo No. 8 Wayne Newton - Danke Shoen Bobby Darin - Hello Dolly Frank Sinatra - Fly Me To The Moon Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gorme - This Could Be The Start Of Something Big Buddy Greco - She Loves Me Vic Damone - The Song Is You Al Martino - Speak Softly Love Nino Rota - The Godfather Waltz Dean Martin - Return To Me Johnny Mathis - Chances Are Sammy Davis Jr. - I've Gotta Be Me Frank Sinatra - The Way You Look Tonight Marilyn Monroe - Happy Birthday Mr. President (on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/user/michaeljoel/playlist/1mNOucMihzZ38hMLv2ptNB)
Q: Are there any artists that never really made it, that came across your desk, that you wish people could hear and embrace?
Action Figure Party comes immediately to mind (a group spearheaded by Greg Kirsten, founder of Geggy Tah, who over the past decade has become a Grammy-award winning producer of Sia, Beck, Kelly Clarkson, Ellie Goulding, Pink, the Shins, Tegan and Sara, Lily Allen), signed to Verve at the time by Bud Harner, our ultra-cool A&R rep. “Everybody Ready” now playing: https://youtu.be/Xud_KlHlqr0
Q: Who was your mentor? Why? Early in my career in advertising: Jim Coudal, the creative director at Weber, Cohn & Riley gave me a shot as a copywriter and helped me craft a voice for headlines and copy. Chris Balla and Bob Garbarini at BMG (now Sony) who provided the freedom and the guidelines to teach me how to think about music marketing. Pat Berry, my boss at Windham Hill (now running the Six Degrees label), who taught me pretty much everything I know about sales, much of it based on always framing decisions with what’s best for the artist. Also from the Windham Hill timeframe, Dave Morrell, who spearheaded AAA/non-comm promotion at our High Street imprint, is a dear friend and mentor who taught me how to love stories and to leave people with a smile. Dave has been releasing his memoirs — and they are a hoot! Horse-Doggin’: Volume 1 is available here: https://www.amazon.com/Horse-Doggin-Dave-Morrell-Archives-Vol-ebook/dp/B00IZLEFQ6/ref=la_B00LG1S4P0_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1491231314&sr=1-1 and 1974 - The Promotion Man - Volume 2 is here: https://www.amazon.com/1974-Promotion-York-Morrell-Archives-ebook/dp/B015YV11M0/ref=la_B00IZQHCE8_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1491231441&sr=1-3. Read up. Plus Bob Schneiders at UMVD taught me the ropes as for retail sales when I started at GRP, and also showed me the importance of connection via common passions solidified with personalized outreach. And the host of other sales and marketing execs who guided me through the years: Ben Kline, Pat Monaco, Bob Anderson, Tony Camardo, Linda Finke, Saul Shapiro, Mike Davis, Cliff O'Sullivan, Mark Flaherty, Marc Zimet, Anthony Ellis, Rob Santos, Nell Mulderry, (can't forget you) Jay Gilbert, the Jazz Pack (Jon, Tony, Lisa, Jeff, Mark)... it takes a village obviously.
Patrick Sullivan (CEO / Co-Founder at RightsFlow) mentored me through his leadership to win against the odds through smart-thinking and a tireless work effort, while Scott Sellwood (our Head of Biz Affairs at RightsFlow, and Publisher Relationships at YouTube) inspired me with his brain, musical abilities, and tenacious commitment to finding common sense solutions. And finally Tommy LiPuma, of course, our Chairman at GRP and Verve, who taught me how to pursue quality in music, art, wine and life. A legendary music leader, visionary and Hall of Fame human being with a legacy of music and joy rooted in the artists, colleagues, employees and millions of ears and hearts that he inspired. A few of use traveled to Cleveland last year to celebrate his 80th. So glad we did. It was a night of stellar performances: Diana Krall, Dr. John, Al Jarreau, Leon Russell (RIP)… followed by the afterparty back at the Ritz-Carlton, drinking amazing wine while listening and laughing into the wee small hours to the many, many stories filling the room. Music biz stories for the ages. Tommy stories. So fortunate and thankful. Smart, passionate, creative mentors who rocked my world.
Q: What’s the best part of your job? Helping and listening (to people and to music). Anytime I can generate a creative conversation with an artist, a company or a colleague, and help them think about their audience and how best to share + super-serve + connect, it’s a good day.
That, and getting together with friends and colleagues for lots of happy hours and live music. Ketel martini, up. Ice cold. Olives.

TIFF 2019: PR Maven Natasha Koifman’s Diary From the Festival’s Opening Weekend
Natasha Koifman is a woman who thrives on a busy schedule. When she’s not planning and executing game-changing campaigns with clients such as Swarovski, Aveeno and Mountain Equipment Co-op, she’s a key player during the Toronto International Film Festival and has been for over two decades. As founder of the Toronto, New York and Los Angeles-based agency NKPR, Koifman hosts highly-anticipated events such as the NKPR Annual Film Festival Countdown, IT House x Producers Ball (where the celebrity portrait studio in partnership with Rolling Stone is housed), Producers Ball Gala and the annual Artists for Peace and Justice (APJ) Festival Gala. “There is something about the atmosphere during TIFF in Toronto, it turns into Hollywood North and the city becomes electric,” she says.
We caught up with Koifman to get a behind-the-scenes look at her hectic schedule during the jam-packed opening weekend of TIFF.
Thursday, September 5
5am: I always make sure I wake up early every morning – especially on the opening day of our IT House x Producers Ball lounge where we have over 150 media/talent coming through the space. I like to ground myself with a cup of coffee, cuddle up with my dog Ko-D (#koddog) and take a few moments of solitude to get ready for the day. Jukka Suutari arrives around 5.30am to help me prep my look for the day – he always knows how to get my hair and makeup just right for a day full of interviews and photos. Some of my favourite products include my favourite Lise Watier Twist & Sharp Eye Stylo – with no sharpener needed it’s easy to take with me everywhere for quick touch-ups!
7.30am: Arrive at the NKPR IT House x Producers Ball lounge this year held at The Purman on Adelaide Street West, just steps away from the Bell Lightbox and all of the TIFF action.

8am – 2pm: Drew Scott (who with his brother, Jonathan Scott, co-created the IT House x Producers Ball with me) and I kick-off media day with a packed scheduled of broadcast interviews speaking to everything TIFF – from our IT House to celeb-spotting to the hottest spots to visit in Toronto during the festival. Beyond that, each day we hosted panels with industry leaders, film experts and global changemakers where the public could come experience the space and learn something new! To launch our new ShopNK – a socially conscious, curated e-commerce fashion, beauty and entertainment site – we also created a pop-up shop where guests (like Priyanka Chopra!) could shop for a cause.

What a week this has been! Thank you all for your incredible and generous support for #ShopNK🖤. One of the many highlights since our launch was when @PriyankaChopra stopped by our pop-up at the IT House. She fell in love with the @linethelabel Oversized Scarf, the Burn Brightly Match Bottle, @bythenamesake Leather Pouch…as well as her favourite product of Drop001 – the Leather and Lace Scented Candle! She even picked up an extra for her husband @nickjonas! 🥰 But, the best part of all is that @Girls.20 benefitted from all of Priyanka’s favourite things with a portion of the proceeds going to charity! 👏🏻👏🏻 #NKPRIT19

7am: Only a day away from the APJ Festival Gala, I’m in the kitchen with renowned Chef David Adjey at the Windsor Arms Hotel to decide on final touches for the Haitian-inspired menu.

Cooking for a cause! 🍽 Renowned Chef David Adjey of the @windsorarms hotel will be welcoming the talented Haitian Chef @ChefPaulToussaint, together they will create a one-of-a-kind Haitian menu for this year’s @ArtistsForPeace Gala. The collaboration between these two chefs will create a meaningful and memorable culinary experience. Haitian cuisine is rooted in the island’s history, prepared using a merging of diverse culinary styles, and it is infused with bold, soulful flavours. We just did a tasting with David last night and WOW! The guests are in for a real treat! 😄 I want to thank George Friedman of the @windsorarms hotel for making all of this possible and for creating the most special and authentic evening for us. 1pm: There’s a lot to prepare for this star-studded event. Members of the NKPR team – the hardest working and smartest pros in the industry – and myself are onsite for meetings, last-minute décor reviews, live performance scheduling, speech writing and finalizing seating plans for the evening. This event is always one of my favourites during TIFF! APJ is an organization that provides life-changing educational opportunities for youth in Haiti. Over the past 11 years, the organization has raised over $32 million and built the first free high school in Port Au Prince that has provided over 3,500 students with an education that they otherwise would never have received. I have been involved in this organization since the beginning and it is something that is near and dear to my heart!
5pm: After a day of planning, I head home to get ready for our annual Producers Ball Gala at the IT House, co-hosted by Drew, Jonathan and myself. For tonight’s look I’ve chosen a sheer Prada duster lined with feathers. I’m obsessed with the feather trend right now.

12pm: The day is finally here – the 11th annual APJ Festival Gala this year presented by Labatt Breweries of Canada! The NKPR team arrives for the final site visit at the Windsor Arms Hotel and to get ready for our busiest red carpet of the season! It may look glamorous (and it is) but behind-the-scenes the red carpet takes months of planning – from confirming media and cameras to making sure everyone’s arrival times are carefully planned.
2pm: I have a comprehensive roles-and-responsibilities meeting with my NKPR APJ Gala event leads and George Stroumboulopoulos – one of the event co-hosts for the evening. Everyone plays their part – even baby Lola Rose!

Turns out The Correspondent isn’t opening a US newsroom after all
Dutch news organization The Correspondent surprised some of its supporters earlier this week when co-founder and CEO Ernst Pfauth posted an update on Medium saying that the company would not be opening a newsroom in New York City.
Which was odd, because the organization raised $2.6 million in a crowdfunding campaign last fall with the express purpose of launching in the United States.
At least, that’s what I thought. After all, I wrote an article titled, “The Correspondent launches campaign to bring its ad-free journalism to the US.”
But here’s how Pfauth explained the decision in his post (emphasis in the original):
We’ve closed our campaign office in NYC, and we have decided that we won’t open a newsroom in the US for now. We don’t aim to be a national US news organization (we have founding members from more than 130 countries around the world!) but instead want to cover the greatest challenges of our time from a global perspective — in English. For that vision, Amsterdam is as a great place to start.
So was this the plan all along? In an interview with NiemanLab, Editor-in-Chief Rob Wijnberg argued that this is consistent with what The Correspondent team promised in the campaign: “We’re setting up in English language, and we’re going to hire U.S.-based journalists as well.”
I’ll say it coz no one else will: everything about TheCorrespondent’s so-called U.S. expansion plans for last two years felt like a huckster’s dream, everyone shilling for them have some explanation to do. Or not, coz really, no one should’ve given a shit in the first place.
— Rafat Ali, Media Operator (@rafat) March 26, 2019
He went on to say that the team “never really talked about setting up an office” in the United States. Still, he acknowledged that it was a U.S.-centric campaign, with Wijnberg and Pfauth spending most of their time in New York, reaching out to U.S. journalists to write about the campaign and recruiting other journalists and pundits to serve as “ambassadors.”
“So it got interpreted by a lot of media who wrote about us as, ‘They’re launching in the U.S.,’ ” Wijnberg said. “Which is pretty much 80 percent true, in the sense that we are going to have English-language correspondents in the U.S. — just not only in the U.S. And we never promised — or never said, because that’s not our model — to have, to cover the United States or anything.”
So I thought: Okay, that makes sense. I must have misunderstood what Pfauth was telling me.
Still, I wanted to figure out how I got this wrong, so I went back to the initial email I received from Pfauth. Here’s how it began: “Dear Anthony, I’m CEO and cofounder of The Correspondent, an online journalism platform from Amsterdam that will soon be launching in the U.S.”
Then he gave a quick description of The Correspondent’s ad-free, reader-funded model, adding, “We aim to bring the same journalistic integrity and unconventional editorial approach when we launch in the U.S.”
It’s so weird that I ended up thinking they were planning to launch in the U.S.!
So @robwijnberg says everyone thought The Correspondent was going to launch in the U.S. because that's how it was "interpreted by a lot of media." But ummmmmm https://t.co/3EXj7ShxVO pic.twitter.com/bZZQ6YMdLc
— Anthony Ha (@anthonyha) March 28, 2019
Wijnberg acknowledged the confusion in his interview, telling NiemanLab, “Tons of people talk about what we’re trying to do. So the idea that you can keep all these people on message all the time would be kind of totalitarian, right?”
Maybe … except this isn’t an overly enthusiastic ambassador; it’s the company’s CEO. (And it seems he made a similar pitch to other publications.) One might argue that keeping him on message — a.k.a., making sure he accurately describes the company’s plans as he asks people for money — is not only not “totalitarian,” but actually the responsible thing to do.
The truth is, I don’t know what happened here. If The Correspondent never planned to open a U.S. office, thinks it can do a good job covering the U.S. without one and simply did a bad job communicating? Fine. If the original plan was to open a U.S. office, then it reconsidered? That would be disappointing, but if the model still produces worthwhile journalism about the U.S., then I suppose it’s a net positive.
But these confusing, convoluted, “I’m sorry that you didn’t understand us” explanations don’t just make the company look disingenuous — they also seem antithetical to running a newsroom that depends on readers’ knowledge, goodwill and money.
Lordy is this interview mealy-mouthed… you can’t blame people for believing your marketing, PR, and the people you hire as “ambassadors” https://t.co/xnT0hGja2E pic.twitter.com/kHv5Rj7c26
— Gabriel Snyder (@gabrielsnyder) March 28, 2019
Update: Jay Rosen, who is advising The Correspondent, has written a post in which he acknowledged that the company “screwed up its communications with members.”
Apparently, the original plan was to have its English-language headquarters in New York, but the thinking evolved as the team considered issues like cost and the benefits of having a distributed newsroom, eventually settling on the idea of “a one newsroom strategy … with headquarters in Amsterdam and the new correspondents working remotely.”
“I was initially taken back,” Rosen wrote. “I would not have come up with that idea. But the more I thought about it, the more sense it made, especially when it came to the talent search, and to the aspiration to one day be a global brand.”
Which makes sense! It’s just a little mystifying that Wijnberg and Pfaust didn’t say that in the first place.

Some say Kevin Spacey came out as gay to excuse allegations
New Post has been published on https://usnewsaggregator.com/some-say-kevin-spacey-came-out-as-gay-to-excuse-allegations/
Some say Kevin Spacey came out as gay to excuse allegations
Kevin Spacey came out as gay Sunday night, but some people think the timing was more of a cover up.
The legendary actor revealed that he’s “living as a gay man” amid an apology to Anthony Rapp, who accused him of trying to seduce him when he was 14 years old.
“This story has encouraged me to address other things about my life. I know that there are stories out there about me and that some have been fueled by the fact that I have been so protective of my privacy. As those closest to me know, in my life I have had relationships with both men and women,” Spacey said in a statement.
“I have loved and had romantic encounters with men throughout my life, and I choose now to live as a gay man. I want to deal with this honestly and openly and that starts with examining my own behavior.”

Celebrities who have come out
Earlier that night, Rapp had accused Spacey of trying to seduce him in 1986.
“Kevin Spacey is gay? Did he reveal that on Twitter?” one person wrote on Twitter. “Yeah, he announced it to deflect that he tried to HAVE SEX WITH A 14 YEAR OLD BOY.”
“The focus is NOT that kevin spacey is gay the focus IS that kevin spacey made an inappropriate sexual advance on 14-year-old Anthony Rapp,” wrote another.
Deeply, deeply unwise framing of this Kevin Spacey story, esp. as it relates to the conflation of sexual orientation and sexual assault.

Is Kevin Spacey trying to change the focus from the sexual assault of a 14 yr old to his own sexuality? The assault is what matters.
— Sherri (@SociallySherri) October 30, 2017
Feels kinda gross that you’re turning a story that should be about the victim (s)…into a story about you? Congrats on coming out, I guess?
— Jordan (@jordansdiamonds) October 30, 2017
good night everyone except Kevin Spacey and his PR team because that was a total desperation move. yikes.
— spooky duley 👻 (@Advil) October 30, 2017
That Kevin Spacey statement. Nope. Absolutely not. Nope.
— billy eichner (@billyeichner) October 30, 2017
Bye bye, Spacey goodbye, it’s your turn to cry, that’s why we’ve gotta say goodbye. #ROSEARMY
— rose mcgowan (@rosemcgowan) October 30, 2017
As a gay man I can assure you molesting 14 year olds is not normal and Kevin Spacey shouldn’t be using his sexuality to excuse his actions.
— Josh (@JoshNoneYaBiz) October 30, 2017
So Kevin Spacey is gonna use a coming out narrative to deflect that this ‘oopsie’ moment happened with a FOURTEEN YEAR OLD. infuriating.
— LW (@lindseyweber) October 30, 2017
That’s cool that you gay, Kevin Spacey, but about this sexual assault…
— Scary Terry (@QUEcified) October 30, 2017
Dear Kevin Spacey:
I don’t care whether U R gay or straight. I do, however, care about pedophilia. Coming out as gay doesn’t excuse that.
— Todd W. Haines (@Todd_W_Haines) October 30, 2017
Nope to Kevin Spacey’s statement. Nope. There’s no amount of drunk or closeted that excuses or explains away assaulting a 14-year-old child.
— Dan Savage (@fakedansavage) October 30, 2017
Kevin Spacey’s revelations aren’t helpful to the LGBT community as ultrarighties push the rhetoric that homosexuality equals pedophilia. ://
— Brandon Wilkins (@BrandonUSA3) October 30, 2017
Harvey Weinstein: “I’m going to fight the NRA!”
Kevin Spacey: “I’m gay!”
Same story different distractions….
— Yashar Ali 🐘 (@yashar) October 30, 2017
Nobody cares that Kevin Spacey is gay. Everyone reasonably tuned into Hollywood knew that already.
People care that he may be a pedophile.

‘CNN, the most trusted name in news,’ bellows James Earl Ray morning, noon and night during the network’s 24/7 programming.
Well, not today it isn’t.
In arguably the most humiliating moment in its history, CNN just accepted resignations from three of its top journalists over a story they got horrendously wrong about President Trump and Russia.
It couldn’t have come at a worse time for CNN, or involved a worse kind of story.
Its war with Trump has escalated on an almost daily basis since he won the presidency.
He furiously brands CNN ‘Fake News’.
CNN, in turn, mocks and berates him at every turn and devotes huge resources toward trying to expose him.
It’s a toxic, abusive relationship that’s got so vicious and vengeful it threatens to imperil the very cornerstone of democracy, freedom of speech.
Now, CNN’s high moral ground has crumbled beneath it in spectacular style.
And it’s collapsed because all those involved forgot the golden rule of journalism: if it seems too good to be true, it probably IS too good to be true.
Last Thursday, CNN.com blasted out a new ‘bombshell’ exclusive about Trump and Russia.
It was the latest in a relentless barrage of similar Russia-related scoops by award-hungry mainstream media organisations desperately trying to prove Trump and/or his campaign team colluded with Russians, possibly as high up as Vladimir Putin, to fix the 2016 US Election.
Yet to date, there remains not a shred of hard evidence to nail the swirling maelstrom of rumours and scurrilous headlines.
Hence, no doubt, CNN’s wild over-excitement at finally getting a lead on what seemed like a possible game-changing piece of information.
It reported the Senate Intelligence Committee was investigating a potentially highly compromising link between Anthony Scaramucci, a prominent ally of Trump, and a $10 billion Russian investment fund.
Last Thursday, CNN.com blasted out a ‘bombshell’ exclusive claiming the Senate Intelligence Committee was investigating a potentially highly compromising link between Anthony Scaramucci, a Trump ally, pictured here, and a $10 billion Russian investment fund
CNN claimed Scaramucci met with the fund’s chief executive Kirill Dmitriev four days before the inauguration.
CNN further stated the investment fund was a part of Russian state bank Vnesheconombank, which is listed in a set of sanctions issued by the US government.
Democratic senators, CNN alleged, wanted to know whether Scaramucci indicated in that meeting if sanctions against Russia would be lifted.
If this story was true, it carried hugely damaging implications: here was a close ally of Trump’s caught in cahoots with Putin-backed moneymen in flagrant breach of sanctions.
But it wasn’t true.
There is no such Senate probe, there was no formal meeting and the fund is not even backed by a Russian state bank.
Within 24 hours, the story was roundly debunked and CNN removed it from its website. The network also apologised to Mr Scaramucci and has now fired the story’s author, Pulitzer Prize nominee Thomas Frank, along with Eric Lichtblau, an assistant managing editor in CNN’s Washington bureau, and Lex Harris, head of CNN’s investigations unit.
But the ‘bombshell’ wasn’t true and within 24 hours, the story was roundly debunked and CNN removed it from its website. The network also apologised to Mr Scaramucci and fired three
Their rapid departures show just how badly this incident has dented CNN’s reputation and just how angry it has made Jeff Zucker, its president.
I know how seriously CNN takes its journalism, because I worked there for four years and experienced its strict standards and practices policies at first hand.
When Hurricane Sandy hit Manhattan in 2012, CNN’s respected meteorologist reported live on my then show Piers Morgan Live that the stock exchange had been engulfed in several feet of water.
It was a huge development that would affect global financial markets.
However, it wasn’t true.
We corrected this erroneous fact within 30 minutes, but I remember there being a massive and lengthy week-long inquest later into how it had been aired without the required double-sourcing procedures.
Everyone involved was left in no doubt that such a mistake was not acceptable at CNN with dire consequences for any repetition.
This cock-up, though, is on a completely different scale because it has single-handedly destroyed CNN’s indignant denial of Trump’s ‘Fake News!’ charge.
The Scaramucci story was fake news. End.
And it was a story designed to cause great damage to Trump as he battles the potentially presidency-ending allegation that he colluded with Russians.
So how did this fiasco happen?
I fear the answer probably lies in that lethal combination of commercial greed and laziness.
CNN has enjoyed soaring ratings with its relentless, mostly negative focus on Trump’s presidency. That, in turn, has led to soaring profits.
The equation is simple: Trump-bashing = $$$.
They are not the only ones to do this; from MSNBC to Stephen Colbert, there are myriad media entities and shows currently cashing in big time by whacking Trump.
But with that success comes complacency.
CNN reported this story because it was desperate to report this story.
It was proof, finally, that a key Trump ally was up to his neck in financial filth with the Russians.
‘Follow the money’ was the Watergate journalists’ mantra, and it finally got them their man.
CNN’s own versions of Bernstein and Woodward clearly thought they were doing the same.
CNN’s self styled Woodward and Bernsteins were all ousted. Thomas Frank, pictured, wrote the retracted story
Eric Lichtblau, left, and Lex Haris, right, also left. Lichtblau, who only joined CNN three months ago was an editor on CNN Investigates and Haris, who previously oversaw CNNMoney oversaw the unit
But they cut corners, apparently relying on just one anonymous source.
And that source turned out to be wrong – gifting Trump a PR touchdown he won’t stop triumphantly ball-spiking for a very long time.
When he shouts ‘Fake News’ at CNN now, it will carry some factual weight.
But there’s a wider issue here, and that’s the increasingly hostile relationship between the White House and the US mainstream media.
Both sides are to blame.
The White House, for flying too economically with the truth and playing silly point-scoring games with the media.
And the media, for its unprecedented hysterical bias against Trump, and its endless self-aggrandizing ‘Gotcha!’ antics in pressers and on air – most of which is designed to command the journalists viral video adoration on social media.
The effect of this mutually assured poison is to ratchet up the already appallingly febrile political atmosphere in America between left and right.
The kind of partisan rage that leads a mentally unbalanced man to shoot a Congressman on a baseball field.
It’s got to stop.
Donald Trump is the President of the United States, a title he won in a fair, democratic election. He’s not perfect but nor is he the monster some of his critics portray him to be.
CNN remains a great news network, notwithstanding this terrible error.
Both need to treat each other with more respect and fairness.
I suggest this would be a very good time for them to start.

PIERS MORGAN: Trump’s media foes know that bashing him makes them big money but CNN’s greed and desperation to get him has cost them dear ‘CNN, the most trusted name in news,’ bellows James Earl Ray morning, noon and night during the network’s 24/7 programming.

He said, during that interview with the Athletic last week, he wants to go on tour this year, but how’s he gonna do that if he’s going straight to filming the new show after his movie wraps? Is his character dying early or something? Not to mention the lack of new music being out. I fear he’s delusional.
Maybe this was before he became booked and busy for the rest of the year?
I think the Netflix film is a small role, and given the backlash from this “The Beauty” show he may he should drop out.
Regardless of the reason, his PR needs to stop him from saying things that aren’t confirmed, and actually speak/post about the things that are and/or have already happened (I know yall read here👀)

Good to know!
This is honestly great despite the lack of promotion. Hopefully his team is planning on a bigger and more coordinated promo strategy for the next single. Yes, I know this is wishful thinking.
