A Brief Hiatus...
Hello!
Dead in Chicago’s is on a hiatus. After nearly 3 years of daily postings and over 1,000 stories, it was necessary to take a break from daily writing & researching to focus on cats, cello, the 4-6 (depending on the month) part time jobs in creative industries, etc. Most of all, a mental break from constant research was sorely needed.
Dead in Chicago will continue on in tour form with Atlas Obscura; you can expect to find tours by Leyla Royale sporadically through the year via the Atlas Obscura event listings site. You can also book a private tour with her by emailing [email protected].
For the time being, feel free to peruse the archives of 1,000+ stories, and once this mental sabbatical is over, you can prepare for the (eventual) Dead in Chicago book.
See you then...

1,000 Posts on Dead in Chicago - Changes are Afoot!
Photo from a special stop on a tour led by Dead in Chicago creator Leyla.
On Friday, July 14th, Dead in Chicago hit its 1,000th daily post! (find it here!). With 1,000 daily posts comes two major announcements: - Dead in Chicago will be moving to a weekly format instead of daily starting on Monday, July 24th. The content will still be the same, but instead of short daily posts the site will feature more in depth tales of terror. There are so many stories out there that deserve more research so I've decided to focus on telling larger stories rather than the short ones. - Support Dead in Chicago via Patreon! For just $1 you'll get early access to the weekly posts, and for $5 you'll get bonus short stories posted every week! Dead in Chicago has been a passion project of mine, done out of my interest in macabre history and as a way to funnel that fascination. Balancing the daily stories along with multiple part time jobs to make ends meet has been fun and a challenge, and support from you can help make that happen! Got an idea for a story? Want a private tour? Email me at [email protected]! Everleigh yours, -- Leyla, creator of Dead in Chicago

The Site as Archive
Hello all!
Dead in Chicago is on hiatus once again. With the coming of the New Year, it’s hoped that 2019 will bring out the finalized research and fine tuning needed to turn some of the site’s most fascinating stories into a Dead in Chicago book instead of weekly or daily posts.
If you’re in need of more horror history, be sure to read through the 1,000+ posts in the archives. There will of course be more tales of terror throughout the year in Horror History walking tours.
If you have questions, words of encouragement on writing, or a request for a private tour, please email me at [email protected]
Wishing you all a warm Winter,
-- Leyla

Hello! My sister is visiting from out of town on the 24th. We were going to go on Ursula Bielski's ghost tour but they cancelled their Friday tour. Do you have any suggestions for what two ghost-enthusiasts could do, besides ghost hunting ourselves? (We love the stories of ghosts, but not hunting them ourselves.) Thanks!
Hi anon! I’d be happy to suggest things and could potentially lead you on a ghost tour myself - you can shoot me an email at [email protected] and we can chat from there!
