People who claim mental illness is all in your head do not understand what mental illness is like. They haven’t felt their palms sweat because they’re so scared of crowds. They haven’t felt headaches from pure sadness. They haven’t felt that empty, hollow feeling in their chests a person gets when they feel they have nothing left to live for. They don’t know that exhaustion, where you can barely lift yourself off your bedroom floor to face a world that seems pointless and loud. They have no idea. Mental illness is one of the most real things a person can feel. It’s all-consuming, it’s invasive and damaging, and it leaves you feeling broken. It’s the cancer of the mind. Don’t you dare dismiss it as something that’s “all in your head”. It’s everywhere. It’s everything. And when you’re in the middle of it, it feels like all you’ll ever know.
