Shortly after Route 66 leaves downtown Chicago and turns southwest onto Ogden Ave., it passes the UIC College of Medicine. And a couple of blocks from the Mother Road in front of one of the buildings is this marker commemorating the location of the West Side Grounds, home to the Chicago Cubs from 1893-1915. Trudged around in 47-degree rain to find the grave of Billy Colgan, a catcher with the American Association Pittsburgh Alleghenys in 1884 and the first pro ballplayer to be buried in Montana.
