“Exactly that! It’s been a bit of a learning curve, knowing when to let go of things.” He chuckled. “Well, it’s kind of a funny story really. Do you remember when there was the wind storm in part of the city? And there were some people who became... well, don’t really know how to describe it really, but we met then.”

“no worries, i’m happy to help. i have been very single for a while, so the desire for romantic shit has to go somewhere.” she laughed, shaking her head at her own idiocy as they spoke.

Dale nodded in understanding. “That was me for a very long time. Practically married to my job.” He chuckled. “But truly, thank you for the help. I think you’ve given me some ideas that Marina — that’s my girlfriend — would like.”

“yeah, i mean, if she’s into that. i think most people are, honestly, so you should be good to go there.” she replied with a brief grin. “it could even be like a cute couples thing, you know? spend some time together.”

A couples thing... “You might be onto something there. Thanks for that!” It certainly wouldn’t hurt if he took a few days of off work, and he could think of few ways he’d rather spend it than with Marina.

“no problem.” the blonde bit her lip, thinking for a moment before continuing. “jewelry is always good, the necklace really is a good choice. maybe a movie that she likes, or signing her up for some kind of activity you think she’d have fun with?”

A movie wasn’t a bad idea, he could always see if there were any screenings of Pretty Woman happening anytime soon. “Like a spa day or something?” That could work, maybe.

“aww, well, congrats.” she replied with a grin, shrugging her shoulders. “no, no, it’s definitely cute. but if you aren’t sold on what she might like, i’m happy to help.” she offered easily, knowing it was often hard to figure out what gifts to get someone at first.

“Thanks.” Dale smiled softly. “Well, what sort of thing would you like to get as a gift?” This was a whole new world that Dale was having to navigate. How long had it been since he had last had a relationship that had reached this point? His work had always got in the way too much.

“oh, nice.” the blonde smiled, looking over the necklace. “it’s definitely pretty. is this your first christmas together? i can help you find something if you want.”

Dale nodded. “It is, yeah.” Although they had met before the previous christmas, they hadn’t started seeing each other until well into the new year. “Is this not....” he hummed. “Do you think it’s a bit old? She’s probably a similar age to you, and she’s british, too.”

juggling more bags than she was proud of, a consequence of having as many siblings as she did, abi grinned at the man next to her at the stand. “that’s really nice. looking for someone special or just for you?”

“Someone special.” He confirmed with an amused smile as he lifted the necklace up from the stand. “I think I’m more of a gold than a silver man, really. “I think the blue stones — not really sure what they are if I’m honest — would match her eyes nicely.”
