B-ko and D-ne!

For non-Shuuens, B-ko and D-ne are two girls from their school's unofficial Occult Club! B-ko joined the club because it was one of the few things that were able to capture her interests while D-ne joined purely because it would be a good opportunity for her to be alone with B-ko.

D-ne is a girl that tends to appear somewhat pessimistic, a someone who barely talks to her classmates. It isn't directly confirmed why, but it's implied it's because she doesn't think of herself as being particularly noteworthy, no where near Pefect.

B-ko is the popular girl in school, the one who's likely to be the target of rumors just because everyone likes talking about her and not because she's done anything to earn it. She appears friendly, nice, sociable, smart, Perfect. Though she's just a perfect Impostor- she hides away her true self, her interests and explosive temper and crass mouth- with only the Occult Club knowing about her actual self.

D-ne is very gay, though she has only had two crushes. A doll she had as a kid called Ririka and B-ko- the commonality between them being that they were both Perfect in D-ne's eye. D-ne wanted to become Ririka, to be Perfect just like her- but found it impossible to live up to her imagined ideals. So with a broken heart, D-ne hid Ririka away.

And D-ne was scared.

Scared that B-ko would forever be out of reach.

Once D-ne found out that B-ko was an Impostor in the occult club, D-ne took it surprisingly very well. B-ko wasn't perfect, but she was able to make herself look so. It meant that B-ko was obtainable, D-ne could potentially become B-ko and look perfect. To be an Impostor- but that would require some impossibilities to get there. For now, D-ne was content hanging out with B-ko and flirting.

Then, the Occult Club attempted to obtain The Bookmark of Demise, which would allow them to summon urban legends from the pages of the Book of Demise. However, in their attempts, they entered the Demise Game. As part of this Demise Game, they were all given a mission they had to complete by the end of the week that had to do with urban legends.

B-ko got the command to "Avoid her Doppelganger". If she met her Doppelganger, her fake other self, the Doppelganger would kill her and take her place. This Doppelganger is often referred to as her Impostor just as how she calls herself an impostor, drawing the line that this fake her is representative of her fake personality taking over her life, killing her true self.

D-ne got the command to "Change fate using the Monkey's Paw". The Monkey's Paw in Shuuen works like how it did it the original story, the wishes it grants aren't intentionally done in a way to cause grief, rather it leans on the idea that you cannot create something from nothing, whatever you wish for is taken from somewhere else in the world. It's also paired with the converse idea that you can't just for something to not exist, it has to go somewhere else.

When D-ne obtains the Monkey's Paw, she at first wishes for a few of B-ko's belongings, getting them easily. Then she wishes for eyes like B-ko's after seeing one of the girls at school with eyes just like B-ko's. A light fixture broke and fell onto the girl, gouging her eyes out, before D-ne ran to the bathroom to check the mirror, finding that her eyes now matched B-ko's. She completely ignored how the girl was suffering, she was too excited about matching B-ko. About looking just like B-ko.

B-ko, on the other hand, was panicking hard with the Demise Game. Before it got too serious, she was able to be distracted by 'other' things such as when, at the beginning, D-ne kissed her and said that she would protect her. Though, as time went on, B-ko remained locked in her room, growing more paranoid as she heard more and more reports from her friends on her phone that they had seen B-ko around town despite B-ko locking herself in her room. In her panic, instead of thinking of D-ne, she would think of someone else.

D-ne would decide to convene with B-ko about how to use the last two wishes to overcome Fate, going to her house and knocking on the door. B-ko would panic, hiding in a location in her room. D-ne would panic in response- was B-ko okay?? She would slam on the door before eventually breaking inside, wandering into B-ko's room to ask if she was- but then she heard it. B-ko was calling for help from A-ya- a boy in their class D-ne knew B-ko had feelings for.

With her last two wishes in hand, D-ne snaps, Killing B-ko so she could wish to Become Her impostor and wishing away the bad Fate that would come onto her.

D-ne live a few days as B-ko- but her wishes would fail. She was B-ko, she gained B-ko's Urban Legend of Doppelganger. So after a few days, B-ko's real doppelganger found D-ne and murdered her to take her place. And you could potentially interpret D-ne wishing her fate away as placing her fate onto someone else given the rules of the Monkey's Paw and since "B-ko" is different from "D-ne", she could have cast the bad Fate back onto herself.

If so, D-ne befell B-ko's fate of her fake personality- her B-ko mask she wore out of love- killing her. And she befell her own fate of being crushed by being unable to fully mimic the one she loves, just like how she was crushed when she couldn't become Ririka when she was a kid.

Due to reasons, Shuuen is a looping narrative, it implying that this fate between B-ko and D-ne- D-ne falling for B-ko and getting them both killed- is a tragedy that repeats ad infinitum.
