Every time I think "there's just no way Webtoon can get worse, I can handle how annoying it is now" the company takes it as a fucking challenge. Like in what world does everything they've done make users want to stay??

Legitimately you could put a gun to my head and I could not tell you the difference between any of the series they keep screaming at users to read. It's either boring badass anime boy with a unique and suuuper powerful ability or generic anime girl in a fantastical world dealing with a taboo romance. Or it's Lore Olympus which is somehow both.

Like I went into the app just to count and immediately it opened up some random series preview and threw an ad for another series on top of it. And often when I'm in the app it'll just give me an ad while I'm reading.

Like without reading any of these, could you honestly tell me what the fuck the difference is between them. And fucking read the description for The Last Airbender Adventurer.

I mean do I even have to say it. Bro just copy-pasted it directly from GPT to the desc and not a single person stopped them.

This is sort of a deep cut but for any real ones who know Choices: Stories You Play, this looks fucking familiar doesn't it. I mean who cares about legitimate creativity and good stories your users WANT to interact with when you can have "The Nanny Affair 9".

Being constantly bombarded with ad after ad for these stories doesn't make anyone want to read them more, it just makes me want to uninstall the app and never think about it again. Which sucks! There is a lot of genuine creativity on here, and those are the stories that I want to read. The problem is that Webtoon has gotten so far into the Content Farm Mindset™ it's no longer worth trying to look for those. Like most of the series I'm reading are plot-based and when they end, I'm not looking for more. I'm throwing it all in the dumpster where it seemingly wants to be.

Victor is the main character of Lovesick/Amore Langueo, a psychological horror about mental health, love and human nature- all set during a devastating virus outbreak.

let's talk about the virus first:

We all know humans are social creatures- we need each other to survive, to grow, and to find meaning in life. Love is one of the strongest bonds we can form, but it's rarely balanced or fair. There will always be someone who loves more, gives more, and that imbalance tears us apart.

They say a broken heart can kill you, and in lovesick, it does.

We are talking about a virus, disguised as simple "recurrent takotsubo cardiomyopathy"- or heartbreak syndrome, it takes hold the moment someone's heart gives out.

The second they die, the parasite takes over their body, and only then, their body warps into one of a disturbing creature. See it as something similar to hanahaki disease, except you turn into something that only knows hunger. We've regressed so much as a species that love itself has become a punishment, a disease, just like Shopenhauer's hedgehog's dilemma, the closer people get, the more they end up hurting each other. (🤓🤓🤓 <- me)

symptoms:

About Victor:

Victor is a med school dropout who was on his way to visit his mother, willing to explain why he left university. But the trip there doesn't go as planned- the driver (possibly patient 0) begins turning mid drive. Victor loses consciousness (after barely managing to escape), and wakes up to the world being almost wiped out because of how aggressive the infected are.

The same day, he meets a girl, Hana, he quickly grows attached to. Sadly she is the reason he becomes infected but he doesn't turn fully. Victor is immune.

Love and obsession aren't the same thing. The virus feeds on unreciprocated love and what Victor feels is something else.

I got a samsung tablet for university (it came with an s pen and I wasn't willing to pay alot for an iPad + more for a pen lol)

but it's so cool! it brings me back to like 2017-2019 when I had a veryyy old (in 2017 it was new) tablet, super small and cute and white that I got on my 12th bday. I used to read webtoons religiously on that tablet.

I wasn't allowed to sit on it much so I used to hide it and sit on it at night and read so much webtoons. Back then webtoon had very limited featured manhwas so I used to read cringey canvas ones that were clearly made by middle schoolers and always got bored because by then I would have read everything interesting lol.

I read some iconic webtoons on there that are STILL releasing even today, like 4-5 years later. like lumine (used to be obssesed with this!!), I love yoo etc.

I remember reading Dice, refund high school, orange marmalade, flow and so many more omg what a nostalgia trip.

One webtoon I read was Days of Hana and it was still being released when I was reading it but I specifically remember stopping on the third last chapter because I was not ready to be heartbroken and 2 years later I went back to read the last 3 chapters but I only read ONE and started bawling. I still have 2 more chapters to go! One day I might finish it hahah

The Magic and the Healing! Werewolves aren’t a huge part of this but they’re very fascinating in it, they’re called the Wyr and the author did a lot of anthropological world building as well as on how werewolves would work medically.

The Graveyard Book! An amazing Neil Gaiman classic. Again, werewolves aren’t a huge part of it but the “Hounds of God” are fascinating and reflect a part of history that isn’t often represented.
