Day 26: #roadtrip
Welcome back everyone! For those of you who read yesterday’s blog post, Snehaa and I decided to switch it up a little. Not only was she busy documenting our day for the blog, but she also was busy taking over the Northeastern Instagram page. And I’m not talking about the Northeastern GEO page. I mean the actual official Northeastern Instagram page. Like the one with 109k followers. She did an amazing job by the way- go Snehaa!
Anyway, here we are. A new day, a new blog post. Today’s itinerary was pretty simple. 4 hour bus ride to Agra, Taj Mahal, 4 hour bus ride to Delhi. #roadtrip Yes, you did the math correctly, that is approximately 8 hours on the bus (not including bus traffic!) and we made it out alive. However, I will say those 8 hours felt like an eternity. To show you what our journey looked like here is a screenshot of Apple Maps (not showing the traffic that we did unfortunately hit)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The morning started out in high spirits. Well, as high as they could be for that early 7am departure from the Lemon Tree hotel in Jaipur. Most people took the first hour or so to sleep, and by the time we started unopening the packed breakfast, we were all awake and ready to see the Taj. (Compliments to the wonderful hotel staff who packaged up some breakfast foods for us to eat on the bus!) Please enjoy the photo of Scott dancing along to some song playing in his earbuds. Pictured below is also a photo of us enjoying some toast before the bus left.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Olivia and I also had purchased some fun snacks for this bus ride and filmed a few fun taste test videos. Here is a fun screenshot I took from when we tried the Spanish Tomato Tango Lays chip and were cheers-ing. We even got Prof. Duane to try it with us.
While I will not be putting those on this blog post, please note that we enjoyed most of the snacks we tried and it was a good way to pass the time. We took a quick pit stop to use the restroom and quickly browse the souvenir store, and then were on our merry way to Agra.
Tumblr media
As soon as we stepped off the bus the hawkers sprang into action and throwing necklaces, magnets, and key chains in our faces, but no one stopped to buy. At least not right then. A short golf cart ride later and we were at the East Entrance to get a quick lesson on the Taj’s history. Fun fact: it took 22 years to build and there are 22 white domes that make up the Taj. One for each year it took to build! I'm not going to lie, pictures do not do it justice, but nonetheless, please enjoy.
We also learned that the inscription highlighted in one of those pictures is an optical illusion. The writing at the top is written bigger, but because of the longer distance from the viewer, it appears to be the same size as the text at eye-level!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let’s just say that it’s one of the seven wonders for a reason. It’s absolutely breathtaking, and we were lucky because the crowds didn’t seem too bad. We stopped at several stops to take individual photos, as well as a group shot. The photographer that took some of our photos was very keen on getting everyone one to do one of his guided poses.
I thought about putting in some of those individual photos here, but for all you parents out there- I decided to not spoil the surprise. Ask your kids for their photos! For now, just enjoy a few of the smaller group shots we took :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
By the time most of the Instagram-worthy photos were taken, we were starting to get pretty hot and ready to move on to see the inside. Once we got inside the mausoleum, we weren’t allowed to take any photos. There was a security guard who had a whistle at the ready to tell off any visitors for taking photos. So, in the meantime, please enjoy this photo I got online that shows that the the beautiful inside looked like (below; left)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once we finished walking our little circle around the tombs, we were ready to wrap this tour up. Like I said, the Taj is absolutely beautiful, but at that point, we were all ready to get out of the heat and continue along on our journey. So we made our way to the exit, stopped to purchase any desired photographs from the photographer, got swarmed by hawkers again, and then finally got on the bus.
We stopped at a McDonalds for a to-go lunch to eat as we continued to drive the 4 hours to Delhi. I’m not entirely sure if the drive was closer to 5 hours or not, but it certainly felt like it. With a full day of traveling, we were all glad to see the sign for the Eros Hotel. For dinner, some people ordered take-out, while a group went to a local food court down the street that Teddy found. (Giving credit where credit is due) We ate at a Pan-Asian restaurant and then briefly scoped out the scene for a potential spot to hang out at tomorrow night. Stay tuned to find out if we actually end up going back to there or not. Well that’s it for me. We’ll see you all tomorrow!

Day 5: Dera Mandawa - Jaipur
13th March 2023
We decided to splash out last night and dined in the hotels signature restaurant Dhaba,
The restaurant was decked out like an Indian truck stop with food to match, the check was large and my expectations fell well short.
To make up for the shortcomings of Dhaba we decided to retire, once again, to Aura for a nightcap and were lucky enough to catch Jazz Junction playing in their unique and imitable style as we settled down with a bottle of wine to share.
Tony had a charming rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ sung to him and then we stuck around till the wine was finished and listened to the bands Bossa Nova take on various recognisable tunes.
We went to down to breakfast early this morning and opted on a healthy ( ish ) one of fruit and yogurt with a smattering of cheese board.
Our journey to Jaipur was the most comfortable drive so far of this trip, the Tempo of yesterday had been replaced with a Toyota boasting deep leather seats, large windows plus the ride was super smooth. You know you’re onto a winner when the vehicle can get uphill without breaking into a sweat.
I decided to sit up front, just behind and across from the driver to get a better of view and oh my, do I have total respect for Jagdish, our chauffeur. The traffic was horrendous out of Delhi, traffic literally coming from all directions, all of the time.
I could see things from his perspective and how we managed to avoid cars, tuk tuk’s, children, adults, cows, motorbikes, elephants and camels is beyond my comprehension. I spent the journey with my eyes closed and my heart hammering. Jagdish was as cool as ice and manoeuvred us skilfully through the melee.
The cacophony of horns crashed around in my ears and engines revved as we inched through the traffic and out into the freeway which was not as we know it.
Indian motorways do not have road markings so the traffic moved along as one big mass of living, breathing metal, moving in the same direction but jockeying for poll position.
We passed towns and villages, countryside and small holdings, small roadside shacks and large corporate hotels.
Finally we entered the ‘Pink City’ of Jaipur, so called because in the 1900′s the entire city was painted pink in honour of King Edward VII and has remained so ever since.
Up till now we have not seen so much as single begger, however that was about to change in Jaipur.  We were forced to stop at some lights and immediately a gaggle of women sprang out of nowhere, banging on the windows , mimicking putting food in their mouths and holding up babies.
One sight I can’t get out of my mind was a haggard, hard faced women, dirt etched in her face holding up a baby, the poor thing must’ve been premature it was so small, she or he lay there limply in her arms, it’s sad little eyes were blank and dull. I’m not sure that this poor, wretched little baby was still alive, and the picture will haunt me I think for a long time.
Dera Mandawa has risen from the dust of Jaipur and has provided us with an oasis of calm within a bustling and busy city.
Mr Durga Singh Ji greeted us with such pleasure and warmth and led us to his sitting room where we were availed of large, chilled glasses of Kingfisher beer  as we booked in.
Our room is immense, with a bed that would easily fit 4 adults, a ceiling fan to keep us  cool and above us is a balcony with further seating.
Intricate carved pillars surround the bed and beautiful yellow drapes hang from them.  It’s been a long day, and it’s time for bed

How to Select the Best Hotel in Kumbhalgarh
You're looking for a place to stay in the little town of Kumbhalgarh, home to a massive fort commissioned by Rana Kumbha of the Mewar dynasty. The 36-kilometer fort is second only to the Great Wall of China, and you want to make sure you stay in a place with a perfect location for exploring its ramparts.
Luckily, we've got you covered. We've picked the best places to stay in Kumbhalgarh, all of which offer a historic stay right in the heart of the town. Check them out below!
Why Stay in Kumbhalgarh?
Kumbhalgarh is one of those destinations that is often overlooked. It's not as famous as other destinations in Rajasthan, like Jaipur and Udaipur, but it's definitely worth a visit. The fort is an impressive sight and there are plenty of other attractions in the area to keep you busy.
Plus, it's a great place to stay if you're looking to explore the surrounding area. The fort is located close to Pali District, which is home to some pretty amazing temples and other attractions. And if you're looking for a bit of peace and quiet, Kumbhalgarh is definitely the place for you.
Tumblr media
What to Look for in a Hotel in Kumbhalgarh
When looking for a hotel in Kumbhalgarh, make sure to consider the following:
Location: The fort is located close to Rajasthan’s Pali District, so it’s important to find a hotel that is close to the town. All of our recommended hotels are within easy reach of the fort.
Historic Setting: Given that Kumbhalgarh Fort is such a historic site, it’s important to choose a hotel that has a historic setting itself. All of our hotels offer guests a unique experience, with many of them housed in traditional Rajput palaces and forts.
Views: As you explore the ramparts of the fort, it’s important to have stunning views to look out onto. All of our hotels offer breathtaking views of the Aravalli Hills and the surrounding countryside.
Hotel Everest hill resort Kumbhalgarh is the best for its location, historic setting, and views, and also fits your budget. They provide amazing services in our royal resort.
Location, Location, Location
There are many factors to consider when selecting the best hotel in Kumbhalgarh. But for us, location is key. After all, you're visiting this little town to explore its epic fortress, and the last thing you want is to be stuck in the wrong part of town.
All of our picks are located close to the fort, so you can easily walk there each morning and spend the day exploring its ramparts. And when you're not exploring the fort, you can enjoy a peaceful evening stroll through the bazaar or relax in one of Kumbhalgarh's many gardens.
The Best Hotels in Kumbhalgarh
The first thing you'll want to consider when choosing a hotel in Kumbhalgarh is its location. You'll want to be close to the fort, of course, but you'll also want to be close to other attractions like the temples and markets.
Another thing to consider is the size of the hotel. If you're traveling with a large group, you'll need a hotel that can accommodate everyone comfortably.
Finally, you'll want to think about the price. Kumbhalgarh is a budget-friendly destination, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding a hotel that fits your budget.
Luxury, Mid-Range, and Budget Options
Historic, yet still quite remote, Kumbhalgarh provides a great opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle without having to forgo any luxury. Nevertheless, there are plenty of accommodation options to suit all budgets, from grand old Havelis turned into boutique hotels, to more modest guesthouses. Ancient India Hospitality company helps you to find the best hotel in Kumbhalgarh they also give you the best offers and deals on hotel bookings.
For those on a budget, there are a handful of small hotels and guesthouses in Kumbhalgarh town itself. Most offer simple but clean and comfortable rooms with en-suite bathrooms and AC, as well as basic amenities like TV and Wi-Fi.
There are also a number of ancient Havelis which have been converted into mid-range hotels. These are usually family-run places with a more personal touch, and often include features like swimming pools, gardens, and spas.
For those looking for a truly luxurious experience, there are a number of 5* resorts in the area offering top-of-the-line facilities like golf courses, private pools, and Michelin-starred restaurants.
Things to Do in Kumbhalgarh
Beyond the walls of the fort, there are plenty of other activities to keep you busy during your stay. Make sure to check out the Jain temples, which date back to the 15th century, and are some of the most ornate and beautiful in Rajasthan.
For something a little more modern, take a walk through Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary. This sanctuary is home to a variety of animals, including leopards, hyenas, sloth bears, and over 300 species of birds. You can even go on safari here to spot some of the rarer animals.
Conclusion
With so many options for hotels in Kumbhalgarh, it can be overwhelming to try and pick the best one. But by following these tips, you can be sure to select a hotel that will give you the perfect base for exploring the area's incredible fort.

#Best place Traveling In Jaipur
Jaipur, often known as the Pink City, is a significant stop on the Golden Triangle, a popular tourist route linking New Delhi, Agra, and Rajasthan. The name Jaipur is a reference to the famed Hawa Mahal and other pink structures that can be found in the city's ancient district.
Jaipur is a city of expansive palaces, elaborate buildings, and panoramic vistas of verdant hills and serene lakes. It was India's first planned city and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for providing a superb example of local city planning. And especially for first-time visitors to India, its streets seem a little more manageable than the crowded mazes of New Delhi and Mumbai.
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel movies were filmed in this city, which served as inspiration for Paul McCartney's song "Riding into Jaipur." It is a location where one can take in the performing arts, indulge in magnificent meals in royal banquet halls, and think back on a time when Maharajas reigned. At day, ride elephants and discover Mughal architecture, and by night, luxuriate in some of the world's most luxurious hotels.
Jaipur is also a shopping haven, with everything from exquisite jewellery and delicate handmade works of art to a wide range of fabrics.
The city is accessible by air, train, bus, or private vehicle from New Delhi. The trip takes less than four hours if you take a high-speed rail[....]

Best Time to go
Although Jaipur is pleasant all year round, the best months to visit the Pink City are from October to February. Visitors can anticipate the warmest temperatures during this time because the days are clear and breezy. Visit between March and July to avoid the oppressive heat while touring expansive castles built before air conditioning. In Jaipur, the mercury can get above 100 degrees Fahrenheit during these months.

Things to Know
The 10th most populous city in India is Jaipur, which is also the largest city in Rajasthan. It is referred to as the Pink City because of the sophisticated use of the colour pink throughout the city. A tourism route connecting New Delhi, the Taj Mahal, and Rajasthan includes Jaipur as one of its points. Even though Jaipur is only 167 miles from New Delhi, it feels like another world. Jaipur, the first planned city in India, was established in 1727. The city is constructed on a street grid rather than a convoluted maze of roadways, making it simpler to travel than Delhi or Mumbai. Explore pre-colonial Indian palaces, delve into Indian history, and unwind in world-class hotels accommodations in Jaipur.

Day 25: Monkeying Around & Other Animal Excursions
Hey everyone, it's Snehaa. I know I take a sillier approach to the blogs but today I want to start off with some gratitude if that's alright with you. Parents/Grandparents/Relatives, I would just like you to know that all of your kids are incredible individuals. Every single one of them has treated me with such kindness and compassion, especially as I was struggling with some really difficult health problems (as the last few blogs suggested). I feel genuinely blessed and grateful to have had the pleasure of spending this time with them, and you should be so proud of the people they are.
Okay no more sappy stuff because I've already emotionally cried like 500 times. Back to your regularly scheduled Snehaa content.
Today we started off by visiting a monkey temple. At first I thought it was in relation to Hanuman, the half-man, half-monkey Indian deity. That was only half of the truth. Take a look:
In fact, it wasn't just monkeys at this temple. We saw peacocks off in the distant and many, many cows. We even fed some of them!
Tumblr media
I didn't get my rabies vaccine before the trip so I was not really up for playing with the monkeys, but the cows were very friendly and more than happy to gobble up all of the grass we could feed them.
Tumblr media
Apparently, Duane and Sagar thought this was not POSSIBLY enough animal interaction, so we loaded back onto the bus and headed to the Water Palace to ride camels. You know, just a typical Wednesday.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Exhausted from our early wake-up call and the heat, we stumbled back into the hotel. Before we could split to take our naps (yay free time!), Duane and Sagar led a reflective exercise. We talked about the privilege we have as university students, and the kinds of resources we are so lucky to have access to. Being in a less developed country puts a lot into perspective, and undeniably gives us a reality check for what we are so fortunate to have. I'm positive that when we all come back, we'll be practicing a lot more gratitude.
Tumblr media
Half of us crashed while the other half used the momentum from our reflection session to write their (graded) reflections. I fell somewhere in the middle where I had my laptop open and was staring at the blank page but couldn't write anything down. If I was gonna do nothing, I could've at least slept, but whatever. It's fine I guess.
We all woke up in time for sunset. Some of us decided to go for a swim while others just wanted to enjoy the view from the rooftop of our hotel. This was our last night in Jaipur and we all needed a moment to decompress.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Those pictures were taken within two minutes of each other. Isn't that crazy??
We wound down the night by ordering pre-dinner ice cream from Naturals Ice Cream brand. We ate it with interesting utensils because none of us could find spoons, and I must say, I've never seen anyone eat ice cream with a chopstick before. First time for everything. All of us split off to get some work done.
It's currently 11:52 PM as I'm concluding this and we have to be downstairs at 6:30AM with bags packed for the Taj Mahal tomorrow. This is exactly why I said I should have napped. I'm likely going to be cranky but at least we have 5 hours of transportation time bright and early to catch up on our sleep.
This is the last time I'll be talking to you guys. Thank you again for a great trip and for being so supportive. Much love <3

Flight Tickets to Jaipur: A Comprehensive Guide for Travelers
Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan, is one of India’s most fascinating travel destinations. Known as the Pink City for its distinctive rose-colored buildings, Jaipur offers a unique blend of royal palaces, ancient forts, vibrant markets, and rich culture. Whether you’re planning a cultural tour, a family vacation, or a business trip, finding the right flight tickets to Jaipur is essential for a smooth and budget-friendly journey. In this blog, we’ll guide you on how to book affordable flight tickets to Jaipur, the best airlines, and when to travel.
Why Visit Jaipur?
Jaipur is a city that offers a perfect mix of history, culture, and modern experiences. Some of the key highlights of Jaipur include:
Historical Landmarks: The city is home to several iconic monuments like the Hawa Mahal, Amer Fort, City Palace, and Jantar Mantar. These structures are not only architectural marvels but also represent the rich heritage of the Rajput kings.
Cultural Richness: Jaipur is famous for its traditional art forms, including block printing, pottery, and the intricate Jaipuri quilts. The city’s festivals, like Teej, Gangaur, and the Jaipur Literature Festival, offer travelers a deep dive into Rajasthan’s cultural heritage.
Shopping and Cuisine: Jaipur’s bustling bazaars, such as Johari Bazaar and Bapu Bazaar, are a shopper’s paradise for traditional jewelry, textiles, and handicrafts. Additionally, the city’s food scene offers mouth-watering Rajasthani dishes, including dal baati churma, ghewar, and laal maas.
Best Time to Book Flight Tickets to Jaipur
Jaipur’s climate plays an important role in deciding the best time to visit and book flight tickets. Here’s a breakdown of the ideal travel seasons:
Winter (October to March): This is the peak tourist season, with pleasant weather perfect for sightseeing and outdoor activities. Many travelers flock to Jaipur during this time, so flight tickets are often more expensive. To get affordable fares, it’s wise to book your tickets 2-3 months in advance.
Summer (April to June): Summers in Jaipur can be scorching, with temperatures soaring above 40°C (104°F). While it’s not the ideal time for outdoor exploration, this is the off-peak season, and you can find cheaper flight tickets and hotel rates. If you’re comfortable with the heat, this period is perfect for budget travel.
Monsoon (July to September): Jaipur experiences moderate rainfall during the monsoon season, which offers a respite from the heat. While not as crowded as the winter months, monsoons bring a lush green landscape to the city. Travelers looking for deals on flight tickets can take advantage of this relatively quiet period.
Tips for Finding Cheap Flight Tickets to Jaipur
Here are some practical strategies to help you book affordable flight tickets to Jaipur:
Book Early: As Jaipur is a popular tourist destination, especially during the winter season, booking your flight tickets 6-8 weeks in advance can help you lock in lower fares. Early booking is also essential if you’re planning to visit during festivals or holiday seasons.
Use Fare Comparison Websites: Websites like Skyscanner, Google Flights, and Kayak allow you to compare flight fares from different airlines. These platforms often provide flexible date search options, helping you find the cheapest days to fly.
Stay Flexible with Travel Dates: If your travel dates are flexible, you can often save money by flying midweek or during off-peak times. Avoiding weekends and public holidays can also help you find better deals on flights.
Look for Discounts and Offers: Airlines often run special promotions and sales during the off-season or around holidays. Keep an eye out for discounts from budget airlines or flash sales on travel platforms like MakeMyTrip, Yatra, or Cleartrip.
Consider Budget Airlines: Jaipur is well-connected by several low-cost carriers, such as IndiGo, Go First, and SpiceJet. These airlines often offer affordable flight options, but be aware of extra fees for checked baggage or seat selection.
Major Airlines Flying to Jaipur
Jaipur International Airport (JAI) is the primary airport serving the city and connects Jaipur to both domestic and international destinations. Some of the major airlines flying to Jaipur include:
IndiGo: As one of the largest low-cost carriers in India, IndiGo offers frequent flights to Jaipur from major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and more.
SpiceJet: Another popular budget airline, SpiceJet operates flights to Jaipur from various domestic cities, including Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Chennai.
Air India: The national carrier provides domestic and international flights to Jaipur, connecting the city to key hubs like Delhi, Mumbai, and Dubai.
Vistara: Known for its premium services, Vistara operates flights from cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore to Jaipur.
Go First: This budget airline offers affordable domestic flights to Jaipur from several Indian cities.
Traveling from Jaipur International Airport (JAI)
Jaipur International Airport is located approximately 13 kilometers from the city center and is well-connected by various transportation options:
Prepaid Taxis: The airport has prepaid taxi services that can take you to the city center or your hotel. It’s a convenient option for first-time visitors.
Ride-Sharing Services: Ride-hailing apps like Uber and Ola are available at Jaipur airport, providing affordable transportation to different parts of the city.
Airport Buses: Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) operates air-conditioned buses from the airport to major points in the city.
Car Rentals: Several car rental services are available at the airport for travelers who prefer to explore the city at their own pace.
Tips for Traveling to Jaipur
Respect the Local Culture: Jaipur is known for its royal traditions and rich heritage. When visiting temples or palaces, dress modestly and respect the local customs.
Explore Public Transportation: While taxis and ride-sharing services are readily available, Jaipur also has a well-developed public bus system and auto-rickshaws, which are an affordable way to explore the city.
Carry Sunscreen and Hydrate: If you’re visiting during the summer or early autumn, don’t forget to carry sunscreen, a hat, and water to stay hydrated, as the city can get quite hot.
Plan Your Visits to Monuments: Jaipur’s famous landmarks like Amer Fort and Hawa Mahal can get crowded, especially during peak season. It’s a good idea to visit these attractions early in the morning to avoid crowds and the midday heat.
Conclusion
Booking flight tickets to Jaipur is the first step to exploring one of India’s most enchanting cities. With its magnificent forts, vibrant markets, and rich cultural experiences, Jaipur is a destination that offers something for every traveler. By following these tips, using price comparison tools, and staying flexible with your travel dates, you can find affordable flight tickets and make the most of your journey to the Pink City. Enjoy your trip to Jaipur, where history and modernity blend seamlessly
