Some Avowed chatter (no spoilers for anything past Dawnshore and early Emerald Stair but I'll tag it and put it under a cut just in case)
I'm having so much fun. I love how opposite my Watcher and Envoy are, and I'm finally getting a good grasp on just who my Envoy is. Lumina (Watcher) was very much chaotic good. She helps people with an open mind but has some fun with it. She embodies the chaos of the Living Lands, where she grew up, but also showcases her loving and understanding family and the way they raised her. She supported animancy wholeheartedly. She despised the gods, even before they involved her in their scheming. She was sensitive about her godlike heritage and how it makes her feel like an outsider. Imrae (Envoy) started and is currently very lawful neutral. She is a respectable member of the Aedyran court and puts duty above all else. She worships Woedica of course, and respects others of faith. Her family wasn't particularly loving and it shows with her somewhat cold detachment from others. She's proud of her godlike heritage and likes when others put her on a pedestal. She is skeptical of watchers and animancy and thinks it should only ever be used under extreme supervision. But now with the mushroomy voice in her head? I'm having her rethink some things. She's curious about the voice. Go see a Watcher? Maybe they aren't all charlatans and con artists. Go see an animancer? I guess it can't hurt. Idk it's just all very fun and I love where I think it's headed.

Okay I have finished avowed so it is time for me to yap about a video game series/setting nobody gaf about! God I love Eora so much, and I love what was done in Avowed with it. Yeah yeah reactionaries on youtube and twitter love to shit on it because it has *gasp* gays and *gasp* women, but we here don't care about that and what I care about is the setting and oh god. The setting.
This is honestly the best they could've done with the ending of Deadfire without giving us a single choice about our decision (considering this is on an entirely different continent and all parties involved were as far away from Deadfire as possible when shit went down). We hear from NPCs so many conflicting theories about what happened, with every potential ending being brought up here and there at least once, and with (spoilers to one of Dawnshore sidequests) one of the NPCs, godlike of Eothas, talking about what happened to Eothas, what happened to the Wheel and what comes next. Idk if it's the setup for PoE3 or for Avowed 2, but I am personally thinking/hoping for the former, as that would make the most sense for the characters.
Because man, the hint that it will be the war between the gods and mortal? And everyone against everyone, really? Something that has been building up since the first game, with gods always being at each others throats and everything being as unstable as possible? Yeah, I can see this progression in further games and I really hope that the reactionaries acting like they are doesn't kill Obsidian before they can make the next game in Eora setting.
And god, they made such a great use of Eora as the setting. They included so much lore into this land which is so far separated from the rest of the world you'd think you would see barely anything here. But no. They keep bringing up things of old, they keep giving us new revelations, I love it so much. Gosh I love this setting.
And yeah, I enjoyed the companions a lot as well, they are my friends :3 No need for romanceability here I am fine just helping them discover themselves. I think I accidentally made Yatzli choose the worst outcome for her though. Or second worst. I'm sorry for thinking being an archmage is cool, my Envoy is a nerd, of course they would recommend her apprentice for Ryngrim.
Yap session over back to your regularly scheduled mcyt posting

still thinking about the Thalla fight because. what ACTUALLY happened in my playthrough was that both Kai and Marius went down, and I forgot my heal/revive so Cynewulf proceeded to take the ogre down by herself, with her little bow and her little dodge, and then she ducked back into the alley where the fight started, revived her buddies, regenerated some health and then they went back out on the street and killed the rest of the Sparrowhawks together.
and like. I keep thinking about Kai and Marius coming to and realizing that not only is the envoy not dead, she has taken Thalla down on her own, David and Goliath-style (holy shit his corpse is right there and he has no eyeballs left to speak of, it's all arrows), and all she needs is like. to take a breather.
like I think maybe at this point the realization occurs that the funny pink mushroom girl is also one of the emperor's most deadly people. like she's had a rough start in Dawnshore but she is, in fact, capable of both Incredible Killing and Incredible Survival and now that the adjustment period is over we're starting to see her actual capabilities and it's kind of a lot.
I also think she might get into the Paradisan spirit (by which I mean: violence and power plays) and like. cut off Thalla's head and nail it to a wall someplace prominent. to send a little message. you know she's really getting sick of being talked down to and jumped on the streets Go Back To Aedyr-style
#local wolfgirl finally goes feral mode more at 11#avowed spoilers#living lands field trip#herearedragons meta#a LOT of the vanguard scout options are about how good at killing you are. and how good at survival you are#and considering that otherwise I'm playing wolf as a lovable funnygirl who's getting a kick out of testing her boundaries with The Law#but is mostly trying to do good#I think it's fun for her to snap in the face of an Actual Overwhelming Threat The Entire Street Is Trying To Kill You#like you do not want the feral ranger side to come out. but she's already died once and she's NOT keen on repeating the experiment.#oc: cynewulf#wolf walking back out of the pearl quarter past that orlan guy with the knife: in case you didn't notice. I'm NOT like my other countrymen.#she's not a politician. she's also not whatever the steel garrote are#she really is just the person you chuck at a problem and they crawl back out still alive and the problem is conveniently solved#probably with lots of arrows

Two Avowed fics are warring for space inside my head… one is tentative pre-relationship Envoy/Kai turning on the evasive charm for each other in Dawnshore (with Envoy-as-eldritch-nature-spirit vibes) and one is cursed age + power differential porn ft. an older man dubconning his promising young divine assassin protégé (also with Envoy-as-eldritch-nature-spirit vibes).
#both of these will get written#the question is… which one goes first#(of course I have Stuff to do before I can write any fic at all… cry)#Inge’s gonna fuck that old man AND they’re gonna fuck the fish#in their spare time they’re going to do a lot of murder#the next suggested tag for this post was “and feel like shit”#YEP definitely that too#oc: inge mecgard#dubcon mention

ok I think the shatterscarp zone is pretty fun actually
the exploration is definitely more fun than in emerald stair, the side quests are more interesting and I think I'm finding a lot more npcs with little side quests around the map than I did in dawnshore even

Daily Avowed Dump, still in Dawnshore.
- My envoy cautiously treating the Voice like it's a curious child with a weapon at all times, while praying she's not the weapon. Every decision she makes she is making it like the Voice is watching and this child will learn to be terrible and doom a bunch of people or unleash the full strength of the fungi dream soulplague or something. It's like being held hostage. However, taking powers to owe a favor at an undetermined time in the future??? 👀 They're healing powers what's bad about that.
- the whole analogy with the watcher where you don't have a chime and you don't sound like the other godlikes. You're alien even amongst your own kind, who are all mostly gone from your world. Your soul growing around a thorn. I'm not sure I like the thorn imagery but I'm assuming it's meant to make you consider the strangleroot and briars etc.
- Loved Everything about the Sargamis questline. His lines... he's so cool. I wish I could have suggested he become a companion, although potentially risky. Having the Envoy who is a godlike get called sister by a godlike who is a historical figure tied to one of the most divisive gods in memory? There was zero chance this character was killing him. (I'll fight him next time tho just to try it.) His feelings about Eothas were making me lose it, it was such a fascinating read on his god and just the closest the Envoy could come to another person who can relate to their experience. Sargamis was ultimately abandoned by his own God, though one could say he was almost freed by him. I'm just obsessed with his entire perspective of trying to force his god back to life in order to make penance and serve the world like. Holy fuck. His lines and perception of godlikes were also very fascinating. Him building an idol/vessel to imprison his god out of the earth of the land he has retired to and been left abandoned. Ough. Then my Envoy being like "Listen Voice.... You can have this toy but I will take it away if you act poorly... Will come back here and burn this effigy..." Kai and Marius were both like 🧍🧍 watching this quest. Sorry guys. Also loved that Sargamis helps you define your Envoys experience as a godlike with your parents or whatever and sort of solidify their character history and bring concepts forward to question their own purpose.
- I love love love Kai and Marius. Their dialogue at camp makes it feel like they're friends and I feel included. Nothing feels forced etc. Listening to them reference all the times they almost died, Marius saying things that might come off as angry to others but it's obvious it's out of worry and care for the few he does actually have connections with. Love to see a dwarven companion, and for him to be the brooding hunter kinda archetype is fun too. Marius is like, you're both stupid I have to stay around to keep you alive.
- Also almost wish the Assassin was a companion but it pays hopefully to have connections, or at least that's what I'm doing with this character because the actual fucking Ambassador hasn't manage to make any sort of contact list at all for her to do her One Job. The fact that the Emperor sent the Envoy after the Ambassador begged for it is also interesting. Sargamis bringing the point that the Emperor likely took the player character in in order to strengthen his own claims to the throne and connection to the gods by having one of the only remaining godlikes that still exist as his loyal servant etc. fucK.
- being able to talk so much shit about watchers is so funny.
- So far I've been really happy with reactivity and choices, I've been able to do the things I want narratively and I'm on the edge of my seat over what happens next. Im still clearing the first area and finished the main quests for now to Emerald Stair or whatever.
- the Inquisitor seems to have her own plans and motivations. I was initially certain she was engineering plots with some higher power faction connection that would parallel the Envoys own connection with the Voice, but having met her I'm less certain. It's just, are her efforts truly in the motivation of conquest because frankly she has only inflamed chaos...
- I want more of the past life memory moments I haven't stopped thinking about the one on Kishamel that I accidentally stumbled across before I even spoke with the watcher. The voice seems to only care about the Envoy and their past, and then the natural world and order, seeing all other Kith as separate outside of the Envoys relationship to them. The choose your own adventure element of them is fascinating and I'm curious about what impact those recovered memories have on the Voice. The dreams with the voice are so alarming fr though like, feels like you're walking a dangerous line influencing something that could consume you or worse the living lands if you misstep.
- can't stop thinking about the splinter of Eothas and then the thorn in the Envoy tho aha 💀
- love doing whatever I want and then having the Envoy remind everyone they serve the emperor directly and have only been assigned One Task. You let the assassin get away??? Yeah, it didn't have anything to do with stopping the plague. Not my business, Ambassador. I serve the emperor, and as the Emperor is like a god to man so are his motivations through me not yours to question. While knowing she's absolutely going off the rails and just trying to figure out how this turned into an existential crisis quest to find herself. Anyway I'm obsessed rn and I haven't even cleared this first map. 💀
#nothing can go wrong here.#personal q#this is rambling no spoilers pls i just need an outlet no one i know is playing it#avowed play q

Going through Avowed now and the exploration has been so rewarding! I feel like this game has gotten no fanfare and it makes me sad.
the exploration is sooo good!! i love how many little unmarked sidequests and stuff there are (i remember there was one in dawnshore where some people where trying to farm crops on shitty land, so i suggested they try goat husbandry instead), and how much your companions comment on little things you see or obstacles you encounter
