One thing that they did right was portrayal about how hard it to integrate into the scooby gang especially if you haven't been there since the beginning.

Tara's been dating Willow since like season 4, and I vaguely remember her talking about how she was feeling left out with Willows friends ie the scooby gang, and even with Willows help she isn't accepted until season 5

However I do think you have to have pretty high self-esteem to hang around a friend group that close knit and have your own thing going on, like Oz had his band, Cordelia.. well is Cordelia

it IS kinda mean that the monks gave Dawn all this stuff in her childhood that Buffy never got bc Joyce has historically been... Questionable when it comes to parenting.

The reality shift kinda made Joyce a much better parent by 8 miles, except it couldn't retroactively make Buffy's childhood better so it's no wonder really that Buffy is. idk. Feeling excluded? By her mom and her sister having a cute relationship that she's never had.

Every time Buffy's tried to bond with Joyce, of which has been many times, she's immediately rebuffed because Joyce doesn't have time or just says something crappy to her that makes Buffy retreat upset, is now contrasted with her getting to see Dawn be treated with some kind of idyllic mother and daughter relationship because Dawn was made to be precious and loved. Or possibly the monks just didn't know that Joyce wasn't winning mother of the year award and this awful juxtaposition happened entirely by accident.

Buffy is taking a Lot of this aggression out on Dawn but honestly? Joyce is the one at fault for being a crappy mother to her, Dawn is 14 and therefore annoying at times, but Buffy bitching that Dawn is all over Joyce when she's sick and that Dawn just doesn't Care about Joyce is utter steaming crap. Dawn is worried sick about her mother but has no power to Help her because she's too young to do anything, so all she Can do is crowd Joyce. Dawn is acting like that Because she cares.

Buffy is never the most empathetic person, she is when she thinks about it but it's not her main default and she has to put effort in imo, and she offers no empathy to Dawn here and is being an utterly terrible big sister. In normal sister situations it wouldn't matter, but hmmmm, Joyce is their only parent and something is very wrong with her and she's decided to think that Dawn doesn't care about Joyce at all instead of ask after her baby sister's well being.

Buffy, Have you checked that your sister is okay? Doesn't sound like it.

This is all to say that this is nicely written, it all makes sense, but it's not Buffy's finest hour. She's not actually considered that a young girl Might just have an emotion in this situation. Have you forgotten what it's like to be 14 and have no power in a terrifying situation?

Headcanon: Every Hero Needs a Day Job

Or what are all the adults doing in the New Sunnydale storyline? These are, of course, just my own headcanons and subject to change based on where individual muns see their characters. For now, however, these are my defaults.

Rupert Giles: Back in England; though he will undoubtedly be making plenty of trips to America. Katherine Giles (OC): Like the others has come to New Sunnydale to help keep an eye on the Hellmouth. Works at Sunnydale High as an English Lit teacher.

Xander & Anya Harris: Owns and operate’s New Sunnydale’s comic book store, Fantom Comics. Get it? Fantom? Like ghost? He finds it funny. This might be why he has Anya there. To make sure the store actually makes money.

Willow & Tara Rosenberg-McClay: Own and operates the local magic store, Bell Brick & Candle.

Buffy Summers-Pratt: Owns and operates The Bronze -- rebuilt and better than ever. During the day it’s a coffee house and at night it becomes a little concert venue/hangout. William Pratt: Most of the time he’s asleep during the day, so there’s really no having a ‘day job’. I think his day job is kind of being the stay at home dad cause you know...he’s there. At night he can be found patrolling or hanging around the Bronze helping his wife and keeping an eye on the kids. Amythest Pratt (OC): While the whole ‘being a vampire’ thing makes a day job of any kind impossible, she too has returned to the Hellmouth. And to the creepy mansion. How lucky the city planners thought to rebuild that as well. She doesn’t really work (doesn’t have to) but she will pitch hit at the Bronze or the magic store if one of them asks.

Dawn Summers: Is following in her sister’s footsteps and working at the high school as a guidance counselor cause hey. She gets it. She knows what it’s like being a teenager on the Hellmouth.
