---
Position yourself in the center of your room.
Donnie sat cross-legged on the floor in the middle of his lab.  He placed his fingers together and tucked his hands into his chest, taking a slow, deep breath.  He had attempted this process numerous times before with no luck, so the instructions he had gathered from the book he’d gotten from the library were now well-memorized.
Begin to scan the room with your eyes.  Where in the room feels more inviting?  Less inviting?  What energies can you feel from these locations?
His eyes made a slow trip around the room.  He answered these questions quietly to himself in an impatient monotone, “Gadget wall, inviting.  Desk, inviting.  Computer, inviting…”
Everywhere he looked felt inviting.  And why wouldn’t it?  It was his lab, a space he manufactured specifically for him to spend most of his time in.  He closed his eyes tightly and let out a large breath; frustration was beginning to take hold.  Every time he tried this, nothing happened.  He felt as though he was making no progress trying the same things over and over and over again.  Standing, he placed his head in his hands and hissed, “This is a waste of time.”
He began to walk away from where he had been sitting, heading for the book open on his desk that he had foolishly let get his hopes up time and time again, but it felt as if there was a string in his chest pulling him back.  He slowed to a stop and swayed for a moment; this was a sensation he had never felt before.  There was a longingness – a desperation – for this to work.   He huffed a bit before allowing the tugging feeling to bring him back to his spot on the floor.
Where in the room feels more inviting?
Hands again pressed into his chest, he started his scan over.  “Desk, inviting.  Doorway, inviting.  Computer…”  His eyes stared hard into the doorway, the imaginary string that had pulled him back to his spot on the ground now changing trajectory to the exit.  “Doorway, inviting.”
Donnie felt like a passenger in his own body as he stood and traveled to the door.  He stood in the exit for a moment as the pulling sensation slowed, then began once again, heading down the hall towards…
No.  Nobody had been in his room since that day.
Chills on the back of his neck began to put him on edge.  His palms were sweating, and he began to develop a minor, thudding headache.  Each beat of his heart sounded louder than the last.  He was tempted to deviate from his course, return to his desk and chalk this entire strange situation up to nothing until, quietly, in the back of his mind, he heard a familiar voice urge, “Go.”
His hands clenched into tight fists; his legs felt as though weights had been tied to his feet.  He dragged himself down the hallway, slowly, silently, a tense shuffle in which each step sent more chills sharply through his body.  A shaking hand extended towards the dark curtain placed into the entryway of his room and slid it open just enough for Donnie to pass through.
The room was the exact same as it was four months ago.  The bed was neatly made – though the pillows were slightly askew – and the shelves full of books, comics, and action figures were well-organized and dusty.  The entire room felt like nothing more than a cruel reminder of what they no longer had.
Unfocus your eyes.  Spirits live just past our vision.
That part didn’t take long.  His eyes glazed over almost as soon as he had stepped into the bedroom; something about the air in the room felt so fragile, like if he moved too quickly or stared at something too long the entire room would shatter.
Look for colors you didn’t see before.  This is the spirit.
His eyes continued to stay unfocused while they searched for this color.  He moved his gaze slowly around the room, worried that if he scanned the area too fast he’d miss the color he was looking for.  Everything in the room felt so gray and lifeless without him; the color should just pop out, right?
At first, he thought he imagined it.  Originally the shimmering blue looked like a speck, a stray piece of fuzz flitting through the air.  He’d passed over it at first but quickly shot back, trying to not let his hope be destroyed if he were to see nothing.  But the blue speck was still there.
Begin to focus on the color.  The shape of the spirit should become more defined the more you focus.
He locked his eyes on the speck, trying to ignore how strained he was beginning to feel as he focused on the color.  It was growing, slowly but surely, elongating itself and morphing into a more familiar shape.  He began to feel his eyes grow misty; he didn’t even want to blink the tears away for fear of opening his eyes and the color being gone.
The figure that was emerging from the color seemed to be stretching, arms extending towards the sky.  Facial features he hadn’t seen in so long were the last things to emerge, and when Donnie blinked, it was as if his brother had been standing there this whole time.
Donnie's hand extended towards him, but he hesitated.  “Leo?”
Leo blinked as if becoming aware of Donnie for the first time.  “You… You can see me?  Can you hear me?”  Donnie couldn’t even manage to squeak out a yes, so instead he slowly nodded his head.
Arms outstretched, Leo leapt towards his brother.  To Donnie’s surprise, he could feel his warm embrace.
