How Vault Tec Rep and Kent Connolly parallel each other and cute relationship headcanons (REALLY SELF INDULGENT)

Tbh I feel like Vault Tec Rep (David Dwecker) and Kent Connolly must've known each other in their past life because I sometimes think back to the way he mentions how Kent is crazy and I just like running off that idea that Crazy Kent is a nickname David gave to him XD

I think it's a cute idea that David and Kent were kinda maybe childhood friends because their dynamic would make too much sense to me. Kent being the Silver Shroud fanatic that he is while David is a fanatic of having stress inducing levels of work ethic for Vault Tec.

I can see Kent endlessly rambling on and on about whatever new story has been produced about the silver shroud to even rants about inconsistencies and flaws with new continuity being made.

While David doesn't really care about whatever childish fictional material Kent likes no matter how grounded Kent says it is, I think he could've gotten motivated by Kent's spirit no matter how timid he may be about it towards other people. He likes how charismatically excited Kent sounds through the stutters. David might've felt jealous about his boundless sense of enthusiasm for one fictional hero. That his spirit seems to be energized even through potential lore/continuity disappointments because holy heck Kent really speaks a lot.

All of this leading up to post-war Kent and David taking opposite stances of their post-war lifestyle. While it is cut from the same root of needing something of the past to push on towards the future. Kent using his forever bound passion in the Silver Shroud to spread the hope and investment he had for the story althroughout the commonwealth wherever he can. To spread the spirit of the Silver Shroud to whoever who wants to aspire being him. His sense of idealism makes use of his past albeit not-at-first practical skills in order to have an actual real Silver Shroud in the Commonwealth. His influence he felt from fiction managed to become possible even in a post-war environment.

To David though, his past passion all led to disappointment and a eternal feeling of betrayal. He represented a corrupt company that sought to not protect everyone from the threat of nuclear devastation and he has to live with the fact that all his hard work effectively represented a corrupt source of power that left him and other people to rot in the wastes or become freaks of Vault Tec's manufactured nature.

He felt like he had nothing of the past to treasure and even people (and 1 Codsworth) from the past was not enough to liven his spirit of the burden he felt he wrought onto himself. He needed a semblance of normalcy and trust from his past life to rely on, also a voice that he could vent to. Some sort of sanctuary isolated from the present he is stuck with.

While David effectively leaves Goodneighbor for Sanctuary to go back to his lively salesman self. I like to think he visits Goodneighbor (via taxi of course) to chat up with Kent with whatever crazy nonsense he has to say about the NEW AWE INSPIRING VENTURES OF THE SILVER SHROUD IN THE COMMONWEALTH. Potentially asking Kent for a favor to sponsor his vendor shops. Now Kent has to bear a grin whenever David speaks all about business and how it could be beneficial inside the Silver Shroud Radio broadcasts. He doesn't really get why he loves doing business so much ^O^" It just turns out David just really needed something to hook onto which is that all the skills and memories he has of his past life were not for nothing.

David has to be the one that pulls Kent away from trouble even when he is scared as all heck in a handbasket. Allowing himself to get beatup by bullies or else seeing Kent hurt would kill his spirit more

Kent knows that David isn't really interested, but he relies on David to be a patient polite listener (he is trained to be that way after all)

Kent uses David as a model because he really takes care of his clothes (THE SAME VAULT TEC REPRESENTATIVE OUTFIT STILL RELATIVELY GOOD BRUHHH)

Whenever David agrees to wear a costume with him, he gets the courage to wear the Silver Shroud costume himself (mainly becuz Vault Tec Rep's manage to look like a cool mysterious stranger kinda fella! Aesthetic awesomeness! B))

David helps Kent with his homework so that he can get an allowance to get more and more comic books and merchandise every week. Kent had hobbies to do, David had a comprehensible learning process! ^O^

David likes smoothskin sole survivor from the past, so he gets soothed that Kent's voice sounds completely unharmed. And also kinda cute on a ghoul.

Oh and yeah they kisssssssss >3< Kent comments on how good of a person David is to him. David often has moments of self doubt due to his past with Vault Tec and being the image on people's doorsteps of what Vault Tec is supposed to be. But Kent would bring up how David managed to outlive whoever might've controlled Vault Tec at the higher ups themselves even without their corruption made tech. That they are ready and prepared to make their own future!

The AFL has created a game that human bodies cannot actually cope with. How do we know this? Take a look at the number of soft tissue and knee injuries on the playing lists of AFL clubs. Aussie Rules football has evolved from being a kick mark game into a high intensity running and impact contest. Supremely fit individuals are sprinting at each other and attempting to elude one another via physical contortions. The stress that this puts on joints and related musculature is immense. The 360 degree nature of AFL makes it different from most other games in that there is no offside rule in place. Players can be tackled and bumped from every direction and there are 36 players on the field at any one time. This makes contact highly likely and difficult to avoid. The speed of modern footy makes the stress levels on the human body extreme. “The overall injury incidence in the 2015 season was 41.7 injuries per club per season, with a prevalence of 156.2 missed games per club per season. Lower limb injuries are most prevalent, with hamstring strains accounting for 19.1 missed games per club per season. Hamstring strains relate to the volume of high-speed running required in addition to at times having to collect the ball while running in a position of hip flexion and knee extension. Anterior cruciate ligament injuries are also prevalent and can result from contact and noncontact incidents. This ridiculous situation where million dollar professional athletes are forced to play on a surface which is potentially dangerous is unacceptable. Once again during this game the home side, the Sydney Swans, had two players who suffered injuries which will prevent them playing for some considerable time, an abductor injury and a hamstring strain. The Swans have had up to 10 players on their injury list in 2025 with many of them out for lengthy periods. One has to ask has the parlous state of the ground been a direct contributor to this situation?

It's The Unsafe Ground Surface, Stupid What we see here is a contrasting combination of a sport professing to be highly professional, and yet, rank amateur behaviour exhibited in the management of the sporting field/stadium where they play their matches. A disconnect seems to exist in this instance, which has endangered the health and wellbeing of their highly valued players. Both the AFL and the Sydney Swans appeared to be in denial of a season where multiple home games have been marred by players from both teams unable to keep their feet during the match. If players cannot run, turn or kick the ball without slipping over it makes for an unedifying spectacle. Let along the damage it is likely to be doing to the joints and soft tissue of the players. An Andre Bocelli concert held at the SCG has damaged the surface where the stage was erected and the ground failed to recover from this. Ongoing inclement weather exacerbated the problem over months. “Fox footy commentators have repeatedly questioned the integrity of the surface during matches this year. The contest and the performances of both teams were repeatedly marred by slipping over at crucial times last night in the Sydney vs Carlton clash. It is amazes me that in a multi-million dollar business like AFL we still see stuff ups of this magnitude occurring during seasons. Thousands of peoples livelihoods depend upon the AFL, least of all the careers of these elite sportsmen. As much as you loved the survivor camp, you longed to return home; whatever that may be.

It was hard to keep track of time in the Entity’s realm, but not impossible. There was a lack of setting sun and the sky seemed stuck in a comatose orange haze. It reminded you of the Grove you had gone to moments before you were consumed by the estranged Deity.

The memories were scrambled; as if someone, or rather something had physically torn them away from your temple. Bits and pieces were remained, but nothing more than a passing thought.

The hope of returning home, or surviving a trial without a single cut or maim, fed the Entity’s everlasting hunger. You were it’s most prominent survivor; a puppet in its coy games.

You awoke on the Eyre, the bland beige and harsh mustard yellows causing you to grimace at your rather lack luster choice of wardrobe. An ugly Christmas sweater made of thick wool, and a rather itchy Santa hat that no matter how far you threw, always returned to its place on your head. Needless to say, you stuck out like a sore thumb.

There was a hum in the air. Soothing yet I’ll-inducing. A shiver ran down your spine as a scream rippled through the stale air; making ears fall deaf to the cries of the crows.

“Hey-OW!”

Your hand stung, but nothing like the blonde’s cheek. Had you just decked Leon Kennedy a new one? Yes. Was it on purpose? Maybe.

“Don’t sneak up on me, dickhead!” You hissed, unwillingly leading him towards a generator near the dips of the Sahara like earth.

“I didn’t mean too,” you rolled your eyes. The lovesick rookie would be nothing but a hassle during his first few trials, and from what you knew, this was barely his third one.

You didn’t have a problem with the man; just his rather obsessive jumps from one survivor to the other. You could only assume he had grown bored of Meg and Laurie. You didn’t blame him though. Those two were a handle full and were too stubborn for their own good.

“You’ve worked on these before right?” You asked.

There was a pregnant pause.

“Uh, no,” Leon muttered, sheepishly frowning before kneeling beside the generator. You rolled your eyes before following, “but I am a quick learner!” The blonde’s optimistic attitude was rather refreshing.

“For your sake, I hope so,”

True to his word, Leon learned how to repair a generator rather quickly. It was near completion when he walked away and hopped into a locker.

“What are you doing?” You asked, confused on why he suddenly hid. You didn’t feel anyone's eyes on you, or even felt your heart pick up it’s rather rhythmic thudding against your chest.

The generator popped and Leon was right back at your side again, this time holding what looked like a-

“Here. It’s like a flashlight,”

“Where did you get this from? I swear those lockers only have hatchets and throwing knives…” you looked up at Leon, cocking an eyebrow l as you hesitantly took the flash bang. “You didn’t pull this out of your ass-“

“NO!” Leon was panicked, eyes wide and a harsh blush covering his cheeks and nose. He scratched the back of his head before shaking his head. “It’s a flash bang,” He muttered, scratching the back  of his neck as you led him away towards the center of the  Eyre. 

“Relax, Kennedy,” You mused, “It was a joke,” But at the same time, you were kind of curious. 

You knelt, and began shoving your hands into the generator. Leon followed to your right, a calm silence enveloping the pair as  they worked diligently. 

Seeing him flustered made you laugh; you thought it was cute, but at the same time, there was a deep pit at the bottom of your stomach; one warning you that the cutesy cop could just be another David. 

The two were obviously different, but something in you was choosing to ignore the burning pair of eyes practically glaring holes into your back, and succumb to the slight change of weight being lifted off your shoulders.

A Bloke Named Daniel Hoyne

There is a bloke named Daniel Hoyne and he is from Champion Data, which is a mob responsible for a lot of interesting AFL stats. In the current AFL media echo chamber, it is this chap who provides all the talking heads you hear and see with the basis of their insightful analysis. Those blowhard footy experts on Fox, Nine and Seven, with the pedigree of being ex-players, that many of us slavishly listen to. Hoyne and his fellow champions of AFL data are providing the real gold for footy analysis. The David Kings' and others may talk loudly and stridently on topic but the actual data is identified by Mister Hoyne.

Daniel Hoyne is on SEN on Tuesday night and sharing the data driven gospel for fans of a more scientific answer to many of footy’s most pertinent questions. What do they say, ‘opinions are like arseholes, as in everyone’s got one.’  Many of us love to talk AFL footy with friends and family. This is, I think in part, our homage to the game we love. Personally, however, I get sick of the shared regurgitation among the AFL footy media. Few have anything original to say and even fewer anything worth banking upon in terms of wisdom. The game moves so fast these days in its evolvement that past players are soon mere spectators like ourselves. Their cache exists in the smell of liniment and real personal experience but game plans and tactics have left them in their wake. Daniel Hoyne tells us that the modern game is all about moving the footy. The top teams move it with aplomb and do it fast. The best players and most valuable to their teams are those that can move the ball exceedingly well. Hitting targets is the name of the modern game. I would add that 4 field umpires are turning the contest into round ball football. Concussion protocols mean that you cannot bump because of the risk of making contact with the head and getting rubbed out for minimum 3 weeks. You cannot tackle like you mean it for similar reasons, as dangerous tackle definitions are getting broader by the week. The contact nature of this contact sport is waning. AFL has long been about running, with the best players being great runners. AFL player body types have evolved into lean, tall, running machines. Squat little blokes are a rarity. Zoning & Too Many Umpires Zoning defences have changed the game too, if you have not noticed. Opposing players do not play on each other, as they used to, they stand a few metres off each other. I think this works well and has evolved because the majority of young players recruited are midfielders and midfielders don’t play on any one. I remember Paul Roos talking about how young players coming into the Swans team were often put in defence, so that they could learn defensive skills. The Swans had a ‘man on man’ defence for much longer than most AFL teams in the modern era. These days, even this option is not really open to modern coaches. The people who have changed the game by modifying the rules to create a higher scoring game with less mauls want to see this new version of AFL. They think that the fans prefer the free flowing game rather than the defensive style of lots of rucks and mauls. The 6-6-6 rule. The ‘stand on the mark’ rule. The tackler not being rewarded ethos, which always favours the ball carrier. These rule changes and interpretations are shifting the game toward soccer, in my view. 4 field umpires mean that the number of free kicks in minor infringements in the ruck contest, marking contests, high tackles and such like are greatly increased. The influence of referees in soccer matches are huge and AFL is fast heading in the same direction. A bunch of free kicks in front of goals can change the momentum of a contest, as it did for the Suns over the Swans recently. Umpires have far more impact on matches than in previous eras.

Players Don’t Play On Opponents Anymore Some folk wonder how players like Patrick Cripps can get so many umpire votes in the Brownlow and so many possessions each week. The reduction in contest produces more uncontested possessions. The emphasis on moving the ball and hitting targets magnifies this even further. ‘Man on man’ contests are rarer and are savoured by fans the few times they happen in a match. The changes forced upon AFL by concussion are very real and there is no responsible avoiding of this. The concerns of civilisation are greater than cavemen beating the shit of each other with clubs. I suppose it is surprising that contact sports have survived in their violence for so long. Soccer can be an exciting game to watch. AFL will maintain a four limbed advantage over the round ball game for some time yet, I would imagine. Although the prevalence of a lot of swinging arms of late is not good for the game. Watching the footy now, involves being exposed to short lectures by ex-players throughout games, as to why teams are losing plays. Calling matches, back in the day, was a shared process of unfolding accounts of the on-field action. Games were more exciting because there weren’t a raft of commentators pretending that they know the answers to everything happening on the ground.
