How I feel about this character: David Jacobs is the greatest character to ever exist period. In all seriousness, I could write paragraph after paragraph breaking him down but I'm gonna spare you for now. *slaps the David* this boy can fit so much stress and repressed emotion! He's a middle kid but he's in this screwed up mindset where he feels almost like he's the oldest because he's the oldest son and feels like it's his responsibility to protect and provide for his family while also making them proud, y'know? He deserves to get angry and he deserves to be a bitch. Also he's the type of guy who reprimands his friends for swearing whilst having the foulest mouth of them all (he swears more and more the better you get to know him.)

All the people I ship romantically with this character: I'm honestly not a big shipper (across all media not just Newsies.) HOWEVER, there are a few ships that I love with my entire heart and one of those is Javid or Jack/David. Specifically in 1992sies because c'mon. And while we're here, I personally see David as being gay.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: MUSH AND DAVID. They are the bestest of besties and I will die on that hill. There are so many little interactions between them in 92sies and it fills my heart with joy. Long live Mush Meyers. In uksies/the stage musical I also love Katherine and David. Also Crutchie and David is great.

My unpopular opinion about this character: Not sure how unpopular this one actually is anymore, but David Jacobs is not a mom friend. Also I hate when he's reduced to just being a ball of anxiety, or reduced to any one trait for that matter because he's so much more complex.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: so👏lo👏song👏 I can understand why he didn't get a solo in the movie (also Seize the Day was much more David's song in the movie than the stage musical) but in the musical version why does every single other major character including fricking Pulitzer get a solo when Davey doesn't? You had time to write a villain song but not a Davey song?? I also wish that in general we'd gotten to see more of David's side of the story/more of his family. Obviously both movie and musical are focused more on Jack, but it would have been interesting to see more contrast between Jack's life and David's and how their stakes in the strike/what they were risking were different. Again, I could write paragraph after paragraph about this. But I won't. (For now...)
