Made Maleen By Jeanne St. James (erotic romance) An Erotic Twist on a Fairy Tale
Death of the Sun (After Undeath #1) By Beth Alvarez (paranormal romance) Angela's life is hectic enough without the addition of an immortal boyfriend. Being with him means making a choice: change herself, or change a vampire's nature.
Brynnde By M Pepper Langlinais (historical romance) Brynnde Archambault must find a suitor or else be stuck with a man old enough to be her father. With the charming help of Viscount Burbridge she finds matches for everyone else she knows but despairs of finding someone of her own... Or has the right match been staring her in the face all along?
Sweet Vengeance (Jessica Sweet Trilogy 1) By Aliya DalRae (paranormal romance) From the time she was young, Jessica Sweet has had visions of finding him. Macerating Toilet Specialists Discuss Why Many People Love Daysailers
Tumblr media
Your Macerating Toilet Distributors Talk About Finding the Ideal Daysailer for You
Raritan Engineering your macerating toilet suppliers would like to share with you these topics we thought would be of interest to you this month regarding why many people love daysailers.
How would you describe the ideal daysailer? Or a daysailer at all for that matter? Your macerating toilet manufacturer talks about how the basic concept is simplicity itself. And yet, over the years the term “daysailer” has come to include boats spanning the length and breadth of yacht design.
Even the proper length of a daysailer, an aspect of small-boat design that might seem self evident, has become a subject of debate, as the “daysailer” concept has come to include boats with LOAs of 40 feet or more.
Recently, in a vain effort to impose some order on the concept, we decided to break up the universe of daysailers into six categories. Bring on the letters to the editor! We'd love to know what you think.
Traditional Under 20ft
Among the most beloved daysailers are those that hark back to an earlier age. Indeed, in some cases these are boats that have enjoyed production runs spanning generations. Chief among these would have to be the cute-as-a-button Beetle Cat, which has been in production since the 1920s in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
Other more recent entries in this sub-genre include Marshall Marine's catboat line, Com-Pac Yacht's Picnic Cat and Sun Cat, Bauteck Marine's Bauer line, the NorseBoat 12.5 and 17.5, and the Crabber 17, 22 and Shrimper at the small end of the Cornish Crabber line.
One-Designs
As the old saw goes, put any two sailboats within sight of one another, and you'll inevitably have a race on your hands. However, a funny thing happened on the way to the finish line for a number of smaller designs originally conceived as racers: they also turned out to be great daysailers.
Other standouts include the 23-foot full-keel Ensign, Sandy Douglass's Thistle and Flying Scot, W.D. Schock's Lido 14, and the S&S-designed Lightning, originally created for racing on Skaneateles Lake in upstate New York.
Find your marine toilet of choice here at Raritan Engineering, where we always take care of your marine sanitation supply needs.
Another brand-new entry in this category is the Chinese-built FarEast 18, available in both a standard and souped-up “R” version, complete with retractable bowsprit. Then there's the French-built Archambault 27.
Modern Classics
One of the most gratifying trends in modern yacht design has been the growing number of “modern classics” out there, with sprightly sheer lines, gorgeous overhangs, low topsides, and cutting-edge fin keels and spade rudders below the waterline.
If there's a downside to these boats it is that they tend to be pricey, especially those including lavish amounts of teak and varnished mahogany topsides. Still, there's no getting around how well those low narrow hulls, tall, powerful sailplans and deep high-aspect underwater appendages perform out on the water.
Weekenders
Since the dawn of “yachting” as a pastime, there have been sailors who take an almost perverse delight in building tiny boats that not only sail well, but also have a place to bunk out-a daysailing sub-genre that is as active today as ever.
Do some of these heavier designs push your personal definition of a daysailer? So be it. Kudos to these boats and their designers for making sailors, and our readers in particular, stretch their minds a little.
Multihulls
And now for something completely different.
Multihulls have traditionally been difficult to pigeonhole, and that remains true when considering them as daysailers. Is the Hobie 16 beach cat a daysailer? Why not? Too wet? Not serious enough?
No matter what the specific design, it would be hard to find a better class of boats for a day of sailing.
Family Boats/Trainers
Family boats and trainers are perhaps the toughest to categorize, given all the different shapes and sizes they come in. Nonetheless, we all know them when we sail them: boats that are both forgiving and have enough cockpit space to accommodate at least one or two passengers.
Among those boats created for the express purpose of training new sailors, the Colgate 26, created by Steve Colgate and naval architect Jim Taylor, is probably the most noteworthy.
In many ways, these small to midsize trainers are the boats that first come to mind when many people think of daysailers, and for good reason. They might not be the sexiest boats on the water, but they're pretty and a lot of fun to sail.
So don't forget these great ideas for your next daysailer purchase. 1) Size doesn't necessarily matter;  2) older models can be ideal as well;  3) just choose the one you want to be in. There is no wrong choice.
They sailed a Tall Ship from Nova Scotia to France, what'd you do on your summer vacation?
Having grown up in Newfoundland and Labrador, Megan Dicker is no stranger to the ocean. But, this year, she got to sail across it.
“At first, I was anxious,” Dicker explained. “I didn't know if I should try, because it seemed like such a wild adventure. But, at the same time, just the thought of sailing across the Atlantic encouraged me [to go].”
The 45 young people worked with the crew, learning how to put up and take down sails, and navigation techniques. She said it was physically challenging at the beginning. “By the end of the trip, it was easy-peasy.”

The youth traveled from Halifax to France on the Dutch ship, Gulden Leeuw. (Emma Davie/CBC)
When they weren't on watch or taking tasks, the youth listened to and learned from each other. They came from all walks of life, and from many different communities.
“It was a reminder that you can do anything you put your mind to,” said Dicker. “I already knew that we have power within ourselves. But, going on that trip, it kinda amplified that feeling.”

New Post has been published on FSRN
New Post has been published on https://fsrn.org/2017/03/un-representative-meets-with-various-native-american-tribes-about-indigenous-rights/
UN representative meets with various Native American tribes about indigenous rights
Tumblr media
Representatives of Native American nations and tribes are in Washington D.C. today as part of a series of actions to put indigenous issues on the national political agenda. Standing Rock Sioux leaders led a prayer march Friday morning while drawing attention to the intersection of indigenous sovereignty rights and environmental protection.
Oil could start to flow through the nearly $4 billion, four-state Dakota Access pipeline as early as next week; Wednesday a federal judge turned down a bid to block work on the last leg of project.
Meanwhile, indigenous activists and their allies are marching in Los Angeles to call on the City Council to cut financial ties with Wells Fargo over the bank’s financing of the Dakota Access Pipeline project. So far three cities have taken divestment action: Seattle, Santa Monica and Davis, California.
A UN representative who focuses on indigenous issues around the world just spent two weeks in the U.S. visiting Native American tribes. Victoria Tauli Corpuz met with the Navajo, Hopi and Pueblo people where they discussed concerns over oil and gas exploration and uranium mining. Then she headed north to the Fort Berthold Reservation and saw the gas flares of the Bakken oil fields. Jim Kent spoke with the UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous People about what she plans to file in her official report.
Download Audio
Jim Kent: And then that led you eventually to, earlier this week, you went to Standing Rock and visited with folks up there, and you also went to the tribal college up there and spoke. What was your main purpose for going to that area in North Dakota?
Victoria Tauli-Corpuz: Well, you know, I was invited here to the United States, actually, upon the request of Chairman David Archambault. I met him in Geneva last July, of 2016, and he invited me to come but I told him that I can only come if it will be upon the invitation of the U.S. government, because if I do an official country visit I can make a report about what I have seen, which may be submitted to the United Nations Human Rights Council. So, I got the invitation from the U.S. government and, of course, one of the key areas that I will visit will be the Standing Rock Sioux, because that has been an issue that has been happening for a year almost and it’s important to see what the situation is like there.
JK: Could you tell me, what were your impressions from what has taken place up there at Standing Rock with regard to that pipeline going through?
VTC: I think that, for me, I find it very unfortunate that the consultations have not been done with the tribes in Standing Rock Sioux, and even the Environmental Impact Assessment that was made by the Army Corps of Engineers didn’t reflect the concerns of the tribes, especially in relation to how their sacred places and cultural sites are going to be adversely affected by the pipeline. I think that it’s bad that no adequate or meaningful consultation has been done with them when, in fact, they will be directly affected by whatever the pipeline is going to bring in, whether this will be leaks or even the imposition of this pipeline over their sacred sites, you know, their cultural integrity and autonomy will be adversely impacted as well.
JK: Now, Lakota people that I’ve spoken to, what initially was brought up and remained a concern was the fact that this pipeline was – the first place it was supposed to be put across was Bismarck, predominantly white location that was going to be impacted. And when they complained about it, it was suddenly moved south to be not interfering with them at all, but then interfering with the tribal people. Were you aware of that and can you comment on that?
VTC: Yes, I was aware of that. In fact, I spoke as well with the governor of North Dakota and I raised this issue myself. I think that it’s really not – it’s very discriminatory to agree immediately when the white people are complaining, but even without consulting the tribes, they just decided to put a pipeline under their sacred sites in the river, which is the source of their drinking and irrigation water. That really is symbolic of what kind of discrimination is against indigenous people.
JK: In the Associated Press piece they brought up the concern that you had expressed presumably that you felt, and this was a big issue here among many people, Native and non, the use of force against the protesters. Would you want to comment on that?
VTC: Yes, I did see the videos of how the protesters have been treated and I thought that there was really an excessive use of force, which is not commensurate with the kinds of protests that they’re doing. There has not been really serious incidents of violence from the side of the water protectors and yet the kind of police operations against them were really overkill in terms of people being fired with water cannons, rubber bullets, dogs biting them and them being placed in dog kennels. I think these are all uncalled for and that’s not the way to deal with peaceful protest.
JK: And, in spite of that, I don’t know whether it was after you made that statement or before, but the North Dakota governor said he felt that the law enforcement used great professionalism and restraint.
VTC: Yeah, I really don’t know if that’s restraint. I’ve also been engaged in these kinds of mass rallies against some issues in the Philippines and I’ve never experienced being shot by a rubber bullet. I think that’s really very dangerous and, of course, water cannons in a situation where the temperature is freezing, is also very dangerous. I think those are not restraint, that’s just, for me, it’s really excessive and the situation doesn’t warrant those kinds of actions and equipment used against the water protectors.
JK: Now, so you’ve been here, you’ve visited with these people. Now what happens with regard to your visit here? You make a report and what happens?
VTC: I’m hoping that the Executive Order which allows for the continuation of the pipeline without even conducting an Environmental Impact Study, I hope that will be revisited and reviewed because the protests are still there, the issues that the people are lying down are still valid. If the pipeline is completed without taking into account those concerns raised by the indigenous peoples and others, then that’s very unfortunate. I hope that my report will influence somehow the decisions being taken by the government. The other thing is that I hope that the indigenous peoples will be able to use the recommendations that will come out from my report to also strengthen their own assertion of their rights. I know that the United States government might not give any value to it. If the U.S. has that position, then its form of authority in terms of saying that other countries don’t respect human rights, etcetera, will also be significantly diminished because they can not even apply those international human rights standards in their own country. What right do they have to be criticizing other countries doing similar things?

DAPL Divestment and the Deeper Momentum Inspired By Standing Rock
Despite the green-lighting of the Dakota Access Pipeline recently and the removal of water protectors from the Sacred Stone Camp beginning on February 22, 2017, the #noDAPL movement has deepened unity across people, brought attention to the historical cycles of trauma, solidified connections between Standing Rock and other groups facing similar struggles across the globe, and sprung strategies and ideas for upholding environmental protection, freedom, and sovereignty. One of those strategies includes a divestment campaign that continues to build momentum.
On February 7, the Seattle City Council voted to divest more than $3 billion in city funds from Wells Fargo, one of the banks invested in the project. The Davis, California city council followed on Seattle’s heels just hours later with another unanimous vote to find a new bank for its accounts of over $124 million. Santa Monica decided to divest about a week later.
Nordea, a Swedish financial services group, recently divested from bonds from Energy Transfer Partners, Sunoco Logistics, and Phillips 66, three companies with stakes in DAPL. Odin Fund Management, a Norwegian firm, announced back in November that it sold $23.8 million in DAPL investments and Yes! Magazine reported on the many tribes that have been divesting, including the Nez Perce tribe in Idaho and the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe in Minnesota, in addition to the Standing Rock Sioux. There is also a reported total of $70,639,277.90 divested by individual consumers at the time of writing (and the number increases daily).
The motivation to take a stand in the way it matters is spreading, with New York mayor, Bill de Blasio, feeling inspired by Seattle’s move and the city of Alameda contemplating a decision. (Update: Alameda has divested from Wells Fargo.)
“There’s momentum, and we can keep it there regardless of what happens," Standing Rock Sioux chairman, David Archambault, said to an audience at Cornell University on February 16, while speaking about the historical struggles of the tribe and the need to instill hope for the future. "The only way we’re going to make a change is if we get the United States to change, because it’s powerful when we unite.”
