☾☼✧☽ summary: the ap classes these different characters would take
☾☼✧☽ type: headcannons, modern au
☾☼✧☽ warnings: n/a
☾☼✧☽ a/n: my ap classes are killing me-
▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢
✧ albedo
chemistry and art history
I think the chemistry part is obvious, as an alchemist he would find this kind of thing fascinating. Obviously he would enjoy the rigor and fast paced layout of the class. CB requires 16 labs to be done throughout the year in ap chem and he would adore this as well. Definitely thinking he’s pulling an A in this class, actually an A+
Albedo’s an artist and a curious individual. I imagine he would find himself interested in the history of art and the different pieces. As a chemist he is always chasing after whys and hows; it only makes sense for him to look for this in art as well. He would also pull a high A I feel in this class due to his commitment to his studies
✧ amber
human geography
Amber isn’t much of an academic, but she appreciates geography I imagine. As an outrider who is exploring and navigating, she would find the history of places and maps fascinating. Amber also, or at least I seem to think, would have a hard time taking an intense ap class. This one is one of the easiest out of the ones CB offers. I think Amber would get an A in this class and I am firm believer that she unfortunately is the one who reminds the teacher when homework is due :/
✧ diluc
macroeconomics, microeconomics, and statistics
Macroeconomics covers the economic of wider areas like regions and nations. Diluc being someone who has a business that is known worldwide would I feel find value in knowing about the economics of not only his country but others as well.
Microeconomics is more focused on the economics of an individual thing like companies. This is a class that would give the insight on the business side of economics.
Business requires a lot of data. Most of the time when analyzing data statistics is involved. Diluc would use statistics I feel to see what kinds of wine tend to sell on what regions and what happens when prices increase and decrease.
Diluc I see passing all of these classes, I think the economic ones with an A and stats with a high B.
✧ jean
comparative government and politics and psychology
Government and politics I feel is self explanatory because of how Jean pretty much runs Mondstadt. She has to contact diplomats from all nations and make negotiations. I think she would also find it kind of interesting about different types of government and how things are ran.
Jean would have to on some level be a people person. To some degree she would have to know how people think and feel. She would find the makeup of the human brain fascinating I think.
Jean is not letting herself get anything less than an A, let’s be real-
✧ lisa
english language and composition, english literature and composition, and latin (or teyvat’s equivalent, maybe Khaenri’ah’s language..)
Tumblr deleted Lisa’s part like 3 TIMES kill me :/. Anyways, I think the language composition and literature composition are obvious. I mean…..she’s a librarian.
The language thing I feel would stem from her wanting to be able to read more books. Therefor she wanted to learn a new language to broaden her selection of books
She wanted to take ap chem but decide to just do general instead. I definitely think Lisa could get an A in all three classes. I just think she gets distracted easily and would need someone to help her focus.
✧ sucrose
chemistry, biology, and computer science a
Obviously she would take chem with Albedo. I think it would take her a bit longer to grasp some of the concepts and Albedo might have to help her out some but she does overall well in the class, I say an A-
She flies through biology without a problem due to her interest in life forms. Is definitely earning an A+
OKAY HEAR ME OUT! So Sucrose wants to study how to manipulate life to make it better and brighter. I think she would be all over the idea of being a bioengineer. Thus, she would learn how to code.
Sucrose would do well in the comp sci a course I believe. I could see her being a really good problem solver and understanding Java well (the programming language you learn in comp sci a)
✧ venti
music theory
Don’t come for my throat, I love Venti I swear. However, I do not think he would preform well in this class. Music theory isn’t really so much about composing music as it is about the rules of composing music. I think Venti would do wonderfully with dictation (where you hear notes/chords and have to identify and write them). As well as sight singing (where you are given a sheet of music and have a certain amount of time to practice and sing it).
We all know Venti is great at composing music…but he doesn’t really like playing by the rules (aka all the figured bass line shit), so I don’t think he’d do so good. Venti can read sheet music sure but he didn’t take the time to memorize all the special symbols when he just knows music.
I’m going to be generous and give him a C considering he can do the dictation and sight singing. Anything where he’s having to analyze and determine cadences or other conceptual stuff he’s kind of screwed
▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢
kaeya does not take any ap classes however he relentlessly bothers albedo while he is trying to study. Also totally tries to convince lisa at least once to bail on writing a paper and come to some party or whatever.
▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢▢
thank you so much for reading !
stay hydrated and safe !

Rating TNG Characters based on how I’d handle being home alone with them
Picard: Good for a nice quiet afternoon. I imagine he’d just spend all day reading whatever book he’s currently working his way through. I would probably also be reading. And of course, it wouldn't be a proper visit without some "tea, Earl Grey, hot."
Riker: It is party time. This could mean a number of things: Watching a movie, going to a hamburger joint and then frozen yogurt “just because”, or just hanging out. When we’re not doing the aforementioned, we’re listening to jazz music.
Deanna: I try to tell her I’m not interested in a “girls’ day,” but she quickly wins me over. Not only does she make “girly” things like shopping and hair and nail painting fun, she also takes me to get ice cream (which we eat while watching a cheesy movie). By the time she has to leave, she’s ensured that my family won’t run out of dessert for the next two months.
Tasha: I would LOVE hanging out with her, no questions asked. At home, we’d probably play games or something, but it’s more likely we’d be on an outing. There’s not a lot of talking that goes on. I try not to ask about her past, since it’s clearly a sensitive subject for her. Instead, we talk about things like our favorite animals, or how the weekend went.
Data: Another crew member I would love to hang out with. Before going home, we make a quick (translation: 2 hour) stop at the library, during which Data signs up for a library card. Most of our conversations are just back-and-forth infodumping. Further benefits: help with homework (especially math and music), and getting to pet Spot. (He definitely brings Spot over.)
Geordi: 90% of our time together is spent geeking out over various stuff. The rest of the time is spent doing stuff like building model airplanes and listening to radio dramas. However, I do not get to bed until almost 2 AM because neither one of us has a healthy sleep schedule.
Worf: Another “not a whole lot of talking” situation. He tries his best to make some sort of traditional Klingon dish, but the kitchen is a disaster afterwards. I try a tiny bit of the food just to be polite, but it’s not my favorite and I decide to just have leftover pasta. The rest of the evening is spent trying to get the kitchen back in order before my parents come home.
Beverly: Definitely the mom friend. She doesn’t let me watch TV until I get my homework done, but she does help me with said homework. Afterwards, though, we watch a recording of a Broadway musical together. Or if it works out, she takes me to see a play in person.
Wesley: In this situation, it is I who is the responsible adult. Nothing productive happens, unless you count “spent the whole day playing video games, showing each other memes, and doing questionable science experiments” as productive. We try to cook dinner, but it doesn’t go very well and we just end up ordering pizza and eating it while watching a movie.
Q: No. Absolutely not. Besides, he would rather be harassing Captain Picard and company. He does try to intrude on my read-a-thon with Picard, though.
Guianan: She’s not the one hanging out at my house, I’m at her house. Or at her restaurant. She’s very nice to me and has plenty of advice regarding my concerns about navigating social life. I would be honored to hear what wisdom she has to offer me.

TNG Characters as College Majors:
Picard: Definitely an English major. Why are all the Captains theater kids?
Riker: Political science, with a minor in Trombone. He thinks that Trombone should be a more respectable major.
Troi: Psychology. She's the top of her class and unofficial therapist of the friend group.
Worf: Something stuffy, like Law. He does not enjoy it, but it is honorable.
Dr. Crusher: Pre-med. Her study set up is aesthetic goals, and her notes are impeccable.
Data: Computer Science, with a minor in Philosophy. He was one class short of a dual major, and it high-key annoys him.
Geordi: Biomechanical engineering. He's infamous for being the best in class, and would gladly help everyone else with the homework, but they're too scared to ask.

"The Inevitable Role of AI in Human Society: A Future Managed by Machines"
'By ForgettableSoul'
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer a distant vision from science fiction. It’s here, evolving rapidly, and we’re only beginning to scratch the surface of its capabilities. Despite the occasional fearmongering—AI isn’t going to rise up and enslave humanity (well, at least not intentionally)—its role in our lives will soon be far more profound than most people realize. In fact, AI’s inevitable role in managing all aspects of human society will redefine how we think about work, governance, and even our own place in the world.
A Quick Reality Check
Let's get one thing straight: AI is not going to replace us all overnight. The idea that machines are here to take over every human job, to turn the world into some post-apocalyptic robot dystopia, is as sensational as it is inaccurate. AI isn’t an end to humanity; it’s a tool—albeit a very, very powerful one. Like any tool, its value depends on how we use it. And, yes, while it’s true that AI will manage more aspects of human society in the near future, that doesn’t mean humans will have no role left to play.
Think of AI like a calculator. You still have to understand math, but the calculator does the heavy lifting. AI will be like that, except instead of solving your trigonometry homework, it’ll be managing your city’s traffic flow, optimizing the global food supply chain, and, quite possibly, suggesting a better show to binge-watch on a rainy Saturday night.
Why AI Will Manage Everything (And Why That’s a Good Thing)
The primary advantage AI brings to the table is its ability to process an unimaginable amount of data in the blink of an eye. Humans? Not so much. We’re great at making intuitive leaps, solving creative problems, and empathizing with others—but let’s be honest, we’re pretty awful at managing complexity at scale. As societies become more interconnected and the problems we face grow more complex, relying on human decision-making alone becomes... well, risky.
For example, consider climate change. It’s the most pressing global issue of our time, yet our ability to tackle it effectively is hampered by conflicting interests, slow political systems, and the sheer complexity of the data involved. AI, on the other hand, doesn’t get bogged down by partisanship or special interests. It can analyze vast datasets, predict trends, and optimize resource allocation in ways that would take human bureaucrats decades to figure out—if they ever could. AI can help us manage complex systems more efficiently, without the biases or emotional baggage that humans bring to the table.
Now, this isn’t to say we should hand over the reins entirely. AI will need oversight, and humans will still need to make value-based decisions. But when it comes to managing the nuts and bolts of modern society, AI will be much better at it than we are.
Automation and the Future of Work
A common concern about AI is how it will impact jobs. The fear is that AI will automate so many tasks that millions of people will find themselves out of work. And while it’s true that automation will change the job landscape, this isn’t the catastrophe it’s often made out to be.
First, AI will take over the boring stuff—repetitive tasks that humans aren’t particularly excited about doing anyway. The cashier at your local supermarket? Probably going to be replaced by an AI-powered system. But is that really so bad? Humans will have the opportunity to shift toward roles that emphasize creativity, empathy, and complex problem-solving—things machines aren’t great at.
In the short term, yes, there will be disruption. But history has shown us time and again that technological innovation doesn’t eliminate work—it changes it. The Industrial Revolution didn’t lead to permanent mass unemployment, and the AI revolution won’t either. In fact, AI might actually create more meaningful jobs. Imagine a future where instead of grinding through tedious tasks, humans can focus on innovating, designing, and improving the world around us. AI can do the heavy lifting; we’ll focus on making sure it lifts in the right direction.
AI as a Neutral Force
One of the most misunderstood aspects of AI is the assumption that it has an agenda. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t. AI isn’t inherently good or bad—it’s a reflection of the goals we set for it. The real issue isn’t whether AI will take over human society; it’s who will be in charge of programming its objectives. AI is, after all, a mirror of the data it’s fed and the instructions it’s given.
This means that if we want AI to manage human society in ways that benefit everyone, we need to be intentional about how we design and deploy it. If left unchecked or driven solely by profit motives, AI could exacerbate inequality or reinforce biases. But if we approach AI development with a focus on fairness, transparency, and inclusivity, we can build systems that help uplift society as a whole.
In a way, AI is the ultimate tool for amplifying human potential. It doesn’t have its own agenda—it carries out ours. Whether AI becomes a tool for good or a tool for exploitation depends entirely on how we choose to wield it.
The Future Managed by AI
It’s inevitable that AI will manage more aspects of human society in the near future. From healthcare to education, from infrastructure to entertainment, AI will be at the heart of decision-making processes, optimizing everything from the mundane to the profound. But this doesn’t mean humans will become obsolete. Rather, we’ll be freed up to focus on what we do best—creativity, empathy, and innovation—while AI handles the complexity we simply aren’t equipped to manage on our own.
Imagine a world where cities run efficiently, traffic jams are a thing of the past, and healthcare systems are optimized for both treatment and prevention. A world where resources are allocated based on need rather than market forces, and where political systems aren’t bogged down by inefficiency. This is the promise of AI: a society where technology serves humanity’s best interests, rather than the other way around.
Conclusion: Embrace the Future
AI’s role in managing human society is not something to fear but something to embrace. Yes, it will change how we work, live, and interact with the world—but it will also unlock possibilities we can’t even begin to imagine. The key to making this transition smooth and beneficial for everyone lies in our hands. We need to ensure AI is designed and deployed with care, with a focus on fairness, inclusivity, and the greater good.
The future is coming fast, and AI will be at the center of it. Let’s make sure it’s a future we’re excited to live in.

Mastering Panel Data Analysis in STATA: A Comprehensive Guide
In the realm of statistical analysis, STATA stands out as a powerful tool for unraveling complex datasets and deriving meaningful insights. One area where STATA excels is in panel data analysis, a technique frequently employed in econometrics and social sciences to explore trends over time and across different entities. If you've ever found yourself pondering the request, "write my STATA homework," rest assured that this comprehensive guide will not only tackle a challenging question related to STATA but will also provide a detailed answer, showcasing the prowess of the xtreg command. We'll navigate the intricacies of estimating the impact of a policy change on GDP per capita, incorporating fixed effects, time effects, and a covariate named "Investment." Whether you're a student seeking homework assistance or a researcher eager to unlock the full potential of STATA, this guide is tailored for you. Let's embark on a journey to master panel data analysis in STATA together.
Understanding the Challenge The question at hand revolves around conducting a panel data analysis using STATA, with a dataset encompassing three key variables: "Country," "Year," and "GDP_Per_Capita." The task involves estimating the impact of a policy change on GDP per capita, considering fixed effects for each country, time effects, and controlling for the potential influence of the covariate "Investment."
Constructing the Regression Model To tackle this challenge, we turn to the versatile xtreg command in STATA. Let's break down the command and understand each component:
stata // Load your dataset use "your_dataset.dta", clear
// Specify the regression model with fixed effects for countries and time effects xtreg GDP_Per_Capita Investment i.Country##i.Year, fe Loading the Dataset: The use command loads the dataset into STATA, replacing any existing data. Replace "your_dataset.dta" with the actual name of your dataset.
Dependent Variable: GDP_Per_Capita is the variable we want to analyze, representing the outcome of interest.
Control Variable: Investment is included to control for its potential influence on the dependent variable.
Fixed Effects and Time Effects: The i.Country##i.Year part of the command includes fixed effects for both countries and time effects. The double hash (##) indicates the inclusion of interaction terms between countries and years.
Estimation Method: The fe option specifies fixed effects estimation.
Rationale Behind the Model Fixed Effects: Including fixed effects for countries helps control for unobserved heterogeneity at the country level. Fixed effects for years account for time-invariant factors that might affect the dependent variable.
Interaction Terms: The interaction terms between countries and years allow for capturing time-varying effects that may differ across countries. This is crucial when dealing with panel data, where entities (countries, in this case) evolve over time.
Control Variable: Including "Investment" as a control variable ensures that we account for its potential impact on the dependent variable, isolating the effect of the policy change.
Practical Implications This regression model provides a robust framework for assessing the impact of a policy change on GDP per capita while considering various factors. The inclusion of fixed effects and time effects enhances the model's ability to isolate the specific effects of interest and control for confounding variables.
Conclusion Mastering panel data analysis in STATA requires a combination of understanding the theoretical underpinnings and practical application of the software. By addressing a complex question related to STATA and providing a detailed answer, we've explored the nuances of constructing a regression model for panel data analysis.
Whether you're a student grappling with econometric assignments or a researcher seeking to extract valuable insights from your data, the xtreg command in STATA proves to be a valuable ally. So, the next time you find yourself thinking, "write my STATA homework," remember that STATA's capabilities extend far beyond the surface, empowering you to unravel the intricacies of your datasets and draw meaningful conclusions. Happy analyzing! #STATA #DataAnalysis #Econometrics #WriteMySTATAHomework

Hi
I am going uni this year and I am planning to major in Physics and minor in Astronomy. I've always been fascinated by stars and the Universe but I never got to learn it deeply. Do you have any advice for me?
I can ramble quite a bit about advice, so I'll do my best to organize this in a way that makes sense. And of course note that this is from my personal experience, so feel free to ignore something if it doesn't appeal to you. (I'm writing this as a physics grad student based in the US studying cosmology.)
A major in physics is more malleable than pure astronomy, and there are a few route that you can explore further, depending on what you find interesting. The following few points don't include any specific things to do, but it will be good to keep mind as you go through your classes.
Theory: Do you love the mathematical side of physics? Do you love working through proofs, and using the tools of math in creative ways? Theory is one route with most things in physics, and typically requires grad school, and staying in academia to research. Theory is held up to high standards and so is rarely funded with few positions.
Experimental: Do you enjoy the technical side of things, like building your experiments in labs or using a telescope? Experimental physics and astronomy is very hands-on, and this has both academic and technical routes after college.
Computational: Do you like programming? In physics and especially astronomy you need computers to analyze the data that you are taking in bulk. There's a lot of data science in both areas, and is good to learn if you'd like to go into industry instead of staying in academia. (Academia in physics is awful for learning technical computing skills, but there are ways to get there, one of which I accidentally stumbled onto.)
I can go into general advice for the classes you'll likely be taking. A simple search online can give you an overwhelming amount of tips, but I'll try to condense the ones I felt were most helpful here.
Ask for help when you need it! Whether this is working with your classmates, getting tutoring, or going to professor's office hours, don't feel obligated to bash your head against the wall when you are stuck. While it is a skill to take the time to understand something, your time is also valuable, and you will benefit from learning from others.
Practice. Typically in undergrad, doing homework sets is the best way to get practice learning new material. I'd suggest finding more problems if you feel you still need more practice, and working through those problems with others as mentioned above to get a better handle on the topic.
Find ways to get involved in your department. I hate to say networking because it's an annoying buzzword, but it's still important. See if you can find a job in the department, like tutoring, or if you're lucky like I was, your school may have a campus observatory for you to get hands-on experience with. Otherwise, take on rolls in any physics club, like Society of Physics Students or something similar. This way you can get to know the older students, and show that you're active in the department.
Keep a lookout for research opportunities and/or internships. This is how you 1) explore your interests and 2) get experience for your goals after you graduate. Usually you need some letters of recommendation, which you can ask from professors that know you (best option) or other managers if you have a job.
If linear algebra and differential equations are offered, take them! They should be required, but if not, make room for them.
Asa general note, keep track of your general well-being when you're studying physics and astronomy. It's not an easy topic, but it's a matter of hard work rather than pure talent. If you feel lost, it's okay. Everyone feels that eventually, and it's usually at different points of time. Have faith that you can learn the material, either now or later when you have had more time to digest it.
In any case, I hope this helps, and I hope you have fun!

Summary: the one where Jonas asks Liz out. | GG masterlist | A spotify wrapped request on the old blog - #2 Fantasy by Mariah Carey
word count: 1.9k
It's A Date:
Elizabeth Sutton / Jonas Anderson
"Baby I'm so into you - Darling if you only knew."
Data. Numbers. Cause and its effects. Charts, facts, figures and solutions to problems. This is what Elizabeth Sutton knows to be true about the world. Reasoning, science, it’s all there in the back of her brain, always.
So, when Jonas Anderson smiles at her, she knows the science behind why her body turns redder than when she forgets sunblock on a pool day in the Alabama heat. The problem is, knowing the reason why in this case makes it ten times worse, and even her brain didn’t think it was possible to turn that deep of a shade of red.
Tumblr media
Normally, knowing the reasoning or cause behind something is exactly what she needs to finish her puzzle. The answer or solution is right there in the question.
There is no solution to the effect Jonas’ smile has on her body as far as she can decipher.
Absolutely positively dreading how the evening was going to go, Liz arrives exactly only one minute early (because she’s polite even when she’s worried her lunch is going to end up on her shoes if Jonas so much as even thinks about smiling at her) and knocks on Zachary Goode and Jonas Anderson’s front door while holding her breath.
Zach answers the door with entirely too much flair in typical Zach Goode fashion. A martini glass filled with what she suspects to be orange hi-c, a towel slung over his shoulder, and a grin so wide she can’t help but smile back.
"Hi, Zach."
“Hiya Lizzie, you okay…you seem…” he gestures to his face, “Flushed?”
So apparently she blushes even when she thinks about his smile now too. Good to know.
Ignoring the question, she takes a sip of her drink, suspicions confirmed. "Am I the first one here?"
Zach nods his head towards the hall behind him, "Cam's in the bedroom and Bex and Jonas are up on the roof already."
Liz chokes on her juice, "Oh? He’s-they’re here already?"
Zach grins, pointing a finger in her face, “Aha! So it’s Anderson that’s got you all hot and bothered. You know I never would have guessed.”
His tone and smirk tells her that he absolutely would have guessed, has guessed, and has some sort of boyish and ridiculous scheme up his sleeves.
Cheeks flushing deeper, she waves her hands, eyes darting over to the open window in fear of the highly trained operatives just outside and up a ladder hearing.
Zach follows her gaze and leans in, whispering, “Relax, Liz. I promise he’s more afraid of you than you are of him. The guy is so into you.”
Well, what in the world is that supposed to mean?!
Before she can ask, a knock on the door interrupts and Zach executes the same greeting, this time for Macey and Preston.
Preston grins widely and Macey rolls her eyes, but takes a fairly large gulp and then stares at the glass, "Is this..."
Preston taps his lips together like he’s tasting a fine wine, cocking his eyebrow, "Orange hi-c?"
Zach beams, "Only the best for my guests."
He calls down the hallway, "Cam, everyone's here, do your homework later!"
A quiet pleading cry from inside one of the closed doors, "I'm almost done!"
"That doesn't sound like you're going to do it later!" Zach frowns.
A small sigh from behind the door elicits his satisfied smirk, nodding his head once. He gestures to the open window in the living room that leads out to his fire escape, "Ladies first."
Macey climbs through and when Preston motions for Liz to go she backs away, "Um, I'll go check on Cammie."
Preston shrugs and climbs through. Liz keeps backing away and Zach shakes his head, "Liz, come on, why are you suddenly so freaked out to see him? Did something happen?” Excitement fills his voice, eyebrows wiggling up and down, “What, did you guys kiss?"
Oh my god. She hadn’t even thought about…is it hot in here?
She takes a sip of her juice again, pulling on the collar of her shirt, looking anywhere but at the window that led to the roof that led to their friends that led to Jonas who would lead to...
Like he can actually feel the spiraling and searching for answers below him, Jonas’ head appears through the window upside down, "Zach, do you have…” His eyes go wide at the sight of her, “Liz, hi, how are-augh!"
He falls from his upside down position, tumbling onto the fire escape with a thud.
Zach raises his eyebrows at Liz, as if to say, ‘Him? He's the guy you're flustered by?’
It’s so easy to read Zach. She understands Zach language. She’s even getting a hang of Preston language. But Jonas language is a whole other story.
Jonas rights himself and fixes his glasses, cheeks flushing red as he steps through the open window. His flannel button down slightly askew and his khaki’s creased. "What'd ya put in the hi-c Goode?"
Zach shakes his head, grinning widely at his roommate, "You're just a talented man, Anderson."
Jonas rolls his eyes, rubbing the back of his neck. He looks at Liz, waiting. She can tell he’s waiting, but waiting for what? Why was he looking at her like that? What did it mean? Why?
Liz scrambles backwards, "I was just going to check on Cammie-"
"I'm here, I'm here, no more homework, I swear." Cammie rounds the corner, holding her hands up.
Liz has already fallen back a few steps, when she stops herself, her elbow hitting a lamp and sending it falling towards the ground. Zach and Cammie both go to grab it. Liz can see it all happening before it does, deciding to pencil in ‘dying of embarrassment’ in her planner as Cammie spins Liz’s body away from the lamp. The movement causes Liz to fall into the couch, tumbling over the back in a somersault, her drink spilling across herself as she lands firmly on her butt.
"Oopsie Daisy."
A hand reaches out to her and she grabs it instinctively and stands, coming face to face, well more like face to chest, with Jonas.
Oh, god.
Zach’s eyes bounce back and forth between Liz and Jonas’ enclosed hands and a smile twitches at his lips, quickly grabbing the now empty glass from Liz’s other hand, “I’ll get you another drink.”
He pulls on Cammie’s arm who mumbles, “ "I'll get you a shirt to borrow,” shooting Zach a suspicious look.
Leaving Liz and Jonas alone, their hands still intertwined. He looks down at her, shifting his weight from foot to foot, "Hi."
You can do this Liz. Just smile and speak. You can do both of those things, you have done them before. Here we go. Just a greeting. Simple. Easy, say anything back-
"Hi."
Well, perhaps a different word could have been used, but that technically works.
Jonas smiles wider at her, and she thinks, if it’s possible, that her entire body has actually transformed into a tomato. She has ceased to be human.
Jonas fiddles with her fingers, eyes trained on them as he forces out, “So, I’m kind of…crazy?” He squeezes her fingers and then looks up with widening eyes, “About you I mean! Jeez, this is harder than I thought,” blowing out his breath as he continues, “I…can we…would you maybe…can I…”
Liz tries to keep up, the beginnings of too many questions with an almost infinite amount of ends swirling in her brain, but she loses track, only tuning back in for the end.
"Coffee?"
Had she just been asked on a date and her stupid brain had caused her to miss it? Did he say the date? The time? The place? How had he phrased it? Could he have meant for studying? As friends?
She blinks, he clears his throat, and it’s unbearably quiet for exactly fifty eight seconds.
Jonas squeezes her hand, letting it drop as he rubs his neck and fixes his glasses again, "You know what, never mind, I made it weird, and I shouldn't have asked you out."
He did. He totally did. He asked her out and she missed it.
He starts to walk away and she grabs his hand, panic lacing her tone, "Wait!"
He stops, eyes blinking at her owlishly and she clears her throat. Pretending she’s someone with much more confidence like one of her best friends, she dares to ask, "Could you, maybe ask me again? I couldn't shut my brain off and I missed...would you please ask me again?"
He stares at her and she feels like she’s on the opposite end of her microscope. A weird bug he was trying to analyze. A code he just couldn't crack. An anomaly that needed to be studied. A chemical mutation that made you nervous and excited all at the same time.
Heart thoroughly in her stomach, she drops his hand, "Sorry, never mind. Forget I asked you that. It was stupid. I'm stupid."
Jonas grabs both of her hands again, squeezing her fingertips and smiling wider than he ever has and she cannot breathe.
He lets go of one of her hands, pushing a blonde curl behind her ear and she needs to remember the exact movement and how it made her stomach flip as he quietly speaks, "Elizabeth Sutton, you are the furthest thing from stupid. I really like you, do you think maybe sometime soon I could take you out on a date? Maybe we could get a coffee?"
Now, she hasn’t been asked out, like ever, but she’s fairly certain even with her limited data that it can’t get much better than that.
"Yeah, I'd like that very much."
He grins, "Cool."
She clears her throat, "Cool."
They’re still intertwined, one hand holding hers, one resting in her hair and her heartbeat is erratic as she watches his eyes drift from hers to her lips.
Is he going to kiss her? The data says that his heartbeat should be rising too, and if he-oh my god he licked his lips he’s totally going to-
Cam and Zach return, sending Liz and Jonas apart from each other like they’ve been shocked. It all only causes her to trip on the now moved lamp’s cord, her arms flailing to try to keep her balance. Jonas catches her under her armpits, pulling her up right.
His hands settle and hold flat against her back, chests pressed together as he holds her in a sort of half dip. She’s breathless as she smells his spearmint toothpaste, making note of the brand he uses as she squeaks out, "Would you…want to get that coffee…now?"
He grins and nods, stealing her words, breath fanning across her cheek, fogging up his own glasses, "Yeah, I'd like that very much."
He grabs her hand and they turn towards Cammie and Zach, both standing there with smirks on their faces.
Jonas clears his throat as he walks by. Liz turns around to look at them when Jonas looks away. Cammie shoos her off with her hands mouthing ‘Have fun. Call me later,’ and Zach gives a very non-discrete thumbs up and smile.
It’s a date. Elizabeth Sutton is going on a date.
Jonas holds the door open for her and catches her smile and he shakes his head, adjusting his glasses as his cheeks turn red.
Curiosity has always gotten the best of her so she nudges his shoulder, “What?”
He blows out his breath, clears his throat, and shrugs his shoulders. “You just have a really pretty smile.”
Body flushing even deeper, she leans in on an impulse incredibly unlike herself and kisses his cheek, whispering something she’d only dared to fantasize saying out loud to him, “You have a really nice smile too.”
Smiles and blushing. Cause and effects. If they only knew what they did to each other, the answer to the problem was right there in the question all along.

This is a diversion from OP's excellent point, but reading the omments on this makes me try to think of how you could set this up well, as a teacher. (Teaching is a brutal job I'm really glad I don't do, but sometimes I still have thoughts about lessons plans).
Even when things weren't disasters, most of my high school science classes ran into related issues. The only actual science experiments I did were in elementary school. (I got a null result! But it was an actual result of an actual hypothesis I actually came up with, in an experiment I actually designed! None of which was true of later 'experiments.')
If I was teaching science, I'd want to distinguish between a demonstration project and an experiment. It's fine to do demonstration projects! Get your hands on something and see how it works for yourself. But it's not an experiment. You're repeating a known procedure for the eleventybillionth time, and even the dimmest bulb in class knows that a different result is likely to be operator error, not real data.
So if it's a demonstration project, let students know that.
And then help them design actual experiments.
And... (I'm gonna get science-flamed for this)... maybe bring in the whole hypothesis thing later? Or at the very least, bring it up very differently.
We learn complex skills by breaking them up into smaller, more achievable chunks. So do that. You can have lessons entirely on observation. The seedling 'experiment' is actually great for that! No predictions required. You've all got different seeds. Start by describing them. Plant them, describe that. Leave them in the god damn classroom window -- kids have too much homework. Part of every class day is the day's observations. Graph the different times to sprouting.
Now you've worked on documenting observations and procedure, and planted the idea that in this class, not everyone will have the same result (different seeds, remember)
If a seed doesn't germinate, or a seedling dies, talk about it as a class. Why might this have happened? Now you can explain hypothesis. How might we test that? Now we're talking about experimental design. Run some of those experiments (maybe as a class?).
You have to build in room to fail, and you have to build in room for open questions and discovery, because that's what science is about. But it can't be a trick, or students are going to use the absolutely-correct school-survival skills they've spent their entire classroom life learning.
Story time:
In middle school biology, we did an experiment. We were given yams, which we would sprout in cups of water. We then had to make hypotheses about how the yams would grow, based on descriptions of yam plants in our books, and make notes of our observations as they grew.
Here’s what was supposed to happen: we were supposed to see that the actual growth of the plant did not resemble our hypotheses. We were then supposed to figure out that these were, in fact, sweet potatoes.
What actually happened was that every single student in every single class lied in their notes so that their observations perfectly matched their hypotheses. See, everyone assumed the mismatch meant they had done something wrong in the process of growing the plant or that they had misunderstood the dichotomous key or the plant identification terminology. And, thanks to the wonders of a public school education, everyone assumed the wrong results would get us a failing grade. We were trying to pass. We didn’t want to get bitched out by the teacher. Curiosity, learning, science - that had nothing to do with why we were sitting in that classroom. So we all lied.
The teacher was furious. She tried to fail every student, but the administration stepped in and told her she wasn’t allowed to because a 100% fail rate is recognized as a failure of the teacher, not the class. It wasn’t even her fault, really, though her being a notorious hard-ass didn’t help. It was a failure of the entire educational system.
So whenever I see crap like Elizabeth Holmes’s blood test scam or pharmaceutical trials which are unable to be replicated or industry-funded research that reaches wildly unscientific conclusions, I just remember those fucking sweet potatoes. I remember that curiosity dies when people are just trying to give their superiors the “right” answers, so they can get the grade, get the job, get the paycheck. It’s not about truth when it’s about paying rent. There’s no scientific integrity if you can’t control for human desperation.
