We made it just in time for a mini Ganga arati at Assi ghat. Peaceful and simple arati, also felt a bit staged for the tourists. Nevertheless, it was an experience. Yet to visit the Dasashwamedh ghat Ganga arati, so more pics coming up. Any offbeat place worth visiting ?? #travel #fernweh #varanasi #banarasiya #ghatsofbenaras #ganges #rituals #holidays #christmasvacation #travelbychumbak (at Assi Ghat) https://www.instagram.com/p/BdDfFLKALk9/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=zjd6nw8hrmqp

There must either be “you” living in this body or God living in this body. Who does better? Bear in mind it was God’s house in the first place. Where did “you” come from?

Top 5 Things to Do In Varanasi – Part 2
Table of Content
Visit Sarnath – Lord Buddha’s Land
Go Local Shopping in Varanasi
A One Day Tour to Ramnagar Fort
Pray A Tribute to Dashashwamedh Ghat
Relish The Local Food
Visit Sarnath – Lord Buddha’s Land
Tumblr media
In the peaceful and calm village of Singhpur, just a couple of kilometres away from Varanasi, lies Sarnath. It is stated in mythological stories that Lord Buddha preached the sermon of the Noble Eight-Fold Path to the common for the first time after achieving enlightenment in Sarnath. For history lovers, Sarnath is the perfect place to be at. Emperor Asoka, who devoted himself to Buddhism, has built several monuments (especially the Stupas) for spreading the word of Buddhism throughout the world. Another place famous in Sarnath is the Mulagandha Kuti Vihar which showcases the beautiful wall paintings of the Japanese artists. Just book a cab service in Varanasi with Chiku Cab and enjoy your tour to Sarnath.
Go Local Shopping in Varanasi
Varanasi is famous for its silk Banaras sarees and beautifully hand-crafted jewellery by the locals. The zari-type embroidery work found in Varanasi has no match for their intricacies. Other apparels in silk-like shawls and carpets are also famous here. You can also see a variety of stone-carved Hindu God Idols and even of Buddha. For local shopping, the places you ought to visit are Thateri Chowk and Vishwanath Lane.

A One Day Tour to Ramnagar Fort
Tumblr media
Built from Chunar sandstone, the Ramnagar Fort looks majestic and, of a strong defence, is the best place to visit on the banks of the River Ganga. It was built in the year 1750 by Raja Balwant Singh and displays the Mughal-type of architecture. Currently, Raja Anant Narayan Singh stays in this huge fort. A lot of area in the fort is now converted into a museum that displays swords, ornaments, palanquins made from pure gold and silver, artefacts made of Ivory and intricate elephant saddle designs.
Pray A Tribute to Dashashwamedh Ghat
Famous for its Ganga Aarti, which takes place every evening, Dashashwamedh Ghat is considered to be the most devotional Ghat of Varanasi. A mythological story says that Lord Bramha had once sacrificed ten horses in a religious ceremony at this Ghat, from which the name of the Ghat is fixed to Dasashwamedh Ghat. The chants on the rhythm of bells, conch shells and other Indian traditional instruments take you in a trance phase.
Relish The Local Food
Tumblr media
Varanasi is known to eat sweets during all their meals. If you are a roadside food lover, you should really try your hands at eating Kachori Sabzi as your breakfast. Also, don’t forget to hog on the gol-gappes and Choora Matar. Now to the main part in eating, the sweets. Relish the delicacies like Mailayo, Rabrdi, Lassi, and Nimish during your stay at Varanasi without fail! Roam the streets with a car hire in Varanasi with Chiku Cab and keep relishing the food!

The river Ganga: Myths, folklore and stories you want to retell
Shweta Taneja
On Dasashwamedh Ghat in Banaras, people jostle with each other to touch the holy waters of the river Ganga. Old people take careful steps, while younger ones jump into the river from a height, slapping, playing, and laughing. Some mutter prayers to Goddess Ganga as they take dips ritualistically amidst the flotsam of rituals, decayed …
