When I read Genesis 4, I realize that all of us are Cain. We all have daily opportunities to be offended, to be mad or to be destroyed. Simply because " sin is always crouching at the door, eager to control all of us " (Gn 4,7). But it also means that we always have two choices. On the first hand, we can open the door to sin, and let it enter. By doing this, we accept to let anger, hate, resentment and all of those negative feelings find their homes in our hearts. On the other hand, we have another choice. We can keep the door closed and refuse to let those feelings becoming yours. We can choose to guard our hearts and preserve the joy, love and peace that is in it. This is the power that Jesus gave you over sin. So, today, just as every other day, you'll have an opportunity to be offended. My love for God radically increased when I finally understood that I'll be as close to God as I ask Him to bring me. Indeed, I think that one of the biggest misconceptions in christians' minds is that we can pray about literally everything except our love for God, which has to rely on us. We think that being a lover or a friend of God has to depend on our own strengths or efforts, and that's so false ! Your intimacy with God depends on the Holy Spirit and not on your capacities. Being close to the heart of God is a grace that only He can give us. So today, I just want you to realize that you don't have to look at a person who seems to be intimate with God and wish you can be like him or her. You also don't have to stay in an unstable, dry or lukewarm relationship with God if you don't want it. And you don't have to constantly look at the weaknesses of your fellowship with Him and feel helpless facing or even flagellate yourself because of them. You have the right to ask Him to bring you closer. You have the right to ask Him to pour love for Him into your heart. You have the right to pray to become a person passionate about His word and His kingdom. You have the right to ask Him to make you as in love with Him as the most devoted person you may know and even far beyond your imagination. God won't be mad or judge you because you make this prayer. In fact, He will be so touched that you care enough about Him to pray about getting closer to Him. And as you ask Him to draw you near to Him, He will draw even nearer to you. Isn't it amazing to serve a God who doesn't only love us, but even gives us the capacity to love Him even more everyday?
