Hirogaru Sky! Precure Episode 49 Review - The Sky Turns Dark
Saying that this episode was intense is an understatement in itself. If there is a word that can describe something beyond intense, that is what this episode is. I was seriously glued to my chair and my eyes were glued to the screen to see what would happen next.
Tumblr media
Skearhead really was the true villain all along. His true identity is Darkhead, the incarnation of Underg Energy. I didn’t expect the energy to be sentient! Apparently, he was the one who killed the Emperor and altered the Empress’s memories so that she’d be the perfect vessel that could easily be corrupted by the energy. Also, remember when he said he loved the Empress? That was the biggest lie of them all. Yikes. The Empress was the biggest victim in all of this mess. I’m glad that she was able to be reasoned with and accepted Sky’s friendship. However, I was right in that Skearhead was this show’s most dangerous villain. Since his debut, I could tell there was something sinister about him with how he reacted very little to situations and how he behaved around others. Him being the twist villain was not in my bingo card but it felt like it was to be expected. Do I like the twist? Honestly, yes. However, I disliked the fact that it made Empress Underg’s importance diminish as she was just manipulated and misguided the entire time. Her beef with Ellee? All because of lies. I pity her the most, honestly.
You know SHIT is going down when an anime starts using the “go on without me” scenario where companions stay behind to let the MC move ahead with an important mission. Wing and Butterfly stay behind the first stage and then Majesty in the second stage. They all do this so that Sky and Prism can rescue the Empress. I liked how Wing and Butterfly were the other main duo aside from Sky and Prism, so it’d make sense that they’d stay together. Titanic Rainbow has to happen after all. I was surprised with Majesty staying behind. Given how significant Majesty is to the story, I thought she’d have a role in defeating Skearhead, but the plot favors Prism as she and Sky are the duo. However, it’s also nice to see that the writers didn’t make it so that she’d be the spotlight hog and was faithful to making Sky the MC.
Oh boy, the Dark Cure Sky segment was crazy. I didn’t think someone would try to corrupt her. Her design is sick, though. The sole right black wing reminds me a lot of Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII. I think that despite her being infused with Underg Energy, she’s still sane and conscious and is using the power to fight back against Darkhead until it gets too much for her to handle. Despite my amazement with how it went out, it really did come out of left field. Where was the foreshadowing? It would’ve been cooler if Skearhead wanting to use Sky as a vessel was hinted throughout the third act of the series, but alas, I shouldn’t expect too much.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I do like that Prism’s role as Sky’s light plays importance here. Ever since they met, Mashiro has been Sora’s light in a way. She’s her first friend. She’s the reason why Sky is able to fight with others. When Sora faltered and was at her lowest, it was Mashiro’s encouragement that pulled her out of that funk once and for all. She’s Sora’s gentle light and plays that role significantly. Prism Shine even plays a role in ridding of the Underg Energy within Sky.
Anyways, it seems that Darkhead’s true form is of a giant snake and all five Precures have reunited to take down the big bad once and for all. I get the feeling next week’s episode is going to feel like a grand finale. I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen during and after the last battle. What are your thoughts on this episode?

domingo - 26. 05. 2024
I've just finished season 2 of Invincible and... (SPOILERS!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mark and Eve gave me big Azriel and Gwyn vibes:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
they are both equals (superheroes x Carynthians + singers)
Redhead baddie (who lost her family) x Flying darkhead + bluesuit hottie (+daddy issues + has issues with his race/origins)
Competitive buddies + Partners in missions
Friends to lovers
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eve really listens and gives great advice to Mark, he clearly is comfortable around her and opens up to her.
And the rooftop scenes remind me of the Azriel Bonus chapter 🥹
Tumblr media Tumblr media
PS.: He even saves her in that first battle - seeing her hurt is what made him snap - and that REALLY reminded me of Sangravah 💔
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I just love them and can't wait to see them together in season 3!!

Sora is just alternate universe Sonic/hj
Exhibit A, blue. If two things share colors they must be related.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Exhibit B, fast. Sora has been shown to run fast just like Sonic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Exhibit C, couldn't swim. Sora has since learned to swim but it was still a struggle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Exhibit D, red headed rivals. Look at them, they're basically the same characters.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Exhibit E, pink haired girlfriends. They both have green eyes as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Exhibit F, orange flying friend who is also a kid genius.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
WARNING FOR SLIGHT HIROGRU SKY SPOILERS
The final example, exhibit G, dark forms took on to rescue their friends. Sonic's rage from seeing Cosmo and Chris trapped mixed with the fake emeralds gave him this form, for Sora it was seeing Darkhead about to kill her girlfriend.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In conclusion, this was kind of a joke but I love making little comparisons like this between my interests.

Darkhead and "Ultimate Power" Sky were the two main things I knew were to happen through the boom

WOW. I was NOT expecting that to be what was meant by the “Strongest Power” in the title. I’ll admit it lasted kinda short, but the build up to it, the design, the animation, the meaning of its resolution…
how long has it even been since we’ve had a dark version of a Cure?
On the other hand however, kinda expected it, but did not like that everyone but Sky and Prism got conveniently pushed out of the “final battle.” Because I don’t think whatever’s happening next episode has as much importance as defeating Skearhead/Darkhead (…..that name…..)

The moral of the latest precure episode is that you should never underestimate the power of lesbians. Darkhead never had a chance.

-One last Hirogaru Change for the road! Soaring to Infinity! Our World!
-Then after that...

HONESTLY while yes Skearhead/Darkhead is kinda a boring villain, imo they found a way to like... make him a decent villain. Imagine being stabbed by the one person you had left, and then that person proceeds to tell you "I lied about loving you. That was the biggest lie of all." I would've died right then and there.
ALSO as much as this episode was really sick, it is kinda a shame we didn't get to see more of Dark Sky. But oh well, I know this episode served up fanfic ideas for writers on a silver platter LMAO
I guess I am just sad that they went with a boring vilain lol. But yes, this ep was pretty good on him too. I just wish it wasn't until now. Like his talk about doing the stuff he did for the love he has always felt sus to me because.... it didn't fit what we knew of him. At all. So none of this surprises me, it was more like "ofc you did. You oozed it." It felt kinda typical villain twist. Not for Precure, but for most hero stories. Which is probably what annoyes me, I tend to not like typical hero stories lol.
But all in all I enjoyed the ep and imo the usage of Dark Sky was good. It was just the amount needed for the purpose. To show how far she's come. Even when succumbed to the power of Dark Ocean or whatever, she hangs on. Even after losing the light, she finds it again. That I really enjoyed. Prism is her light, shining her way, no matter what.
(And yes this is definitely gonna be fanfic fuel lol)

Just watched episode 49 of Hirogaru Sky! Pretty Cure, in which the Cures head to the Undergu Empire for the final confrontation.
Picking up where the last episode left off, the Cures and the Empress are shocked at Skearhead's betrayal. Skearhead notes that the Empress will perish the same way her father did, causing the Empress' to recall the repressed memory of what really happened to her father.
While she and her father were discussing what the Undergu Empire should believe in now that their belief in strength being everything has been proven wrong, Skearhead snuck up on them and fatally stabbed the Emperor through the back. He then implanted a fake memory in the traumatized Empress that it was Cure Noble who betrayed them and attacked her father in order to make her into the perfect vessel for the Undergu energy. Cure Prism asks Cure Butterfly to heal the wounded Empress, but Skearhead reminds them that the power of light won't be able to heal someone born of Undergu energy.
As Skearhead takes on a stronger form, calling himself Darkhead, the Cures try to save the Empress. Darkhead reveals to the Empress that since he's come clean about his other lies, he may as well admit that he never truly cared about her, he was only interested in her potential as the vessel for Undergu energy. Her spirit broken, the Empress wonders what's even left for her, but she sees the Cures are still doing what they can to save her. As he observes Cure Sky's determination, Darkhead realizes he may have found an even better vessel.
He takes the Empress back to the Undergu Empire, daring the Cures to go after him if they want to save her. They know it's a trap, but figure they have no choice but to follow. Coming across several Ranborgs, Cure Wing deduces which way they should go based on where there's a higher number of Ranborgs guarding the area. He and Cure Butterfly stay behind to fight them off while the other three Cures go on ahead of them.
As they continue along, Cure Majesty has to stay behind to fight off another Ranborg. As she sends Cure Sky and Prism ahead of her, she muses on why there are five Cures, and she reached the conclusion that Cure Noble must've felt lonely fighting alone and wanted her successor to have friends to fight alongside her. Cure Sky and Cure Prism continue making their way deeper into the Undergu Empire.
As they watch the Cures, Darkhead admits to the Empress that it was her heroic actions during the battle against Cure Noble and the Emperor that made him see her as the best suited to be the vessel for the Undergu energy. However, now he has a new vessel in mind, namely Cure Sky. As Cure Sky and Cure Prism arrive, the Empress tries to warn them, but Darkhead interrupts her. The fight begins, and initially it seems the two Cures have the advantage since their battles against Skearhead in the past have let them catch on to his usual strategies. However, due to the high concentration of Undergu energy, the two begin to weaken.
As Cure Prism collapses, Darkhead grabs her and dangles her over a cliff, asking Cure Sky what lengths she's willing to go to in order to save her. Presenting her with the Undergu energy, he tells her she can use it to save her friend. Cure Sky takes on the Undergu energy, taking on a darker form as she manages to catch Cure Prism and get her to safety. She's determined not to lose herself to the Undergu energy, but as the fight between her and Darkhead continues, the Undergu energy starts to overwhelm her, giving Darkhead the opening he needs to possess her.
Cure Prism regains consciousness, standing up as Darkhead prepares to have the possessed Cure Sky finish off her and the Empress. However, he is shocked to find that Cure Sky is able to overcome his control, Cure Prism having had enough faith in her friend that the bond between them would be strong enough for Sora to return to her senses. Cure Prism uses her light to eject Darkhead from Cure Sky, and even manages to heal the Empress, much to her surprise. With Cure Sky back to her normal self, the two approach the Empress, telling her they've found the answer she was looking for.
Cure Sky admits she still has much to learn as a hero, and that along the way she has made mistakes and even nearly lost her way at times, but thanks to the support of her friends, she was able to come back stronger and realized the importance of having people who believe in you. She and Cure Prism offer to be the Empress' friends, as the other three Cures catch up to them. However, the battle isn't over yet, as Darkhead, now in the form of a serpent made of Undergu energy, emerges from the darkness. The Cures prepare for their final battle, telling him he won't be able to defeat the five of them working together.
Another great episode! So, now we know what really happened to the Undergu Emperor, and I just feel bad for the Empress having been manipulated by Skearhead all these years. And wow, I did not see Cure Sky becoming temporarily corrupted with Undergu energy coming. The design of her dark form was pretty cool too. The way Cure Prism brings her back to her senses was pretty epic too. She didn't even need to do much, she knew the bond between them was just that strong that Cure Sky wouldn't be able to attack her.
Anyways, I'll be looking forward to seeing how this concludes!

Dark Rewatch Part 1: The subtitles come on
As I have mentioned before, I'm doing this Dark rewatch mostly to practice my German comprehension skills. I tried going into it with no subtitles and just raw dog that language learning, which lasted basically until the protagonist tried to express A Feeling about five minutes in, at which point I compromised and turned on the German CC subtitles as to not be entirely lost. Gabbing about language and some slight Dark spoilers below the cut.
I will say Duolingo did NOT prepare my ass for this. The language of the adults in the show is more or less comprehensible to me, albeit some characters, especially Cop On Some Sort Of Edge Ulrich does project his voice in much the same way that most Norwegian TV actors do, which is to say that he does not, and the season's cryptic narrator Adam isn't quite as clear as I would've liked either, but I guess it would be weird if his voice didn't sound like miles of bad road.
Now, my biggest problem comprehension-wise is the kids. Series Protagonist Jonas struggles with a lot of Emotions and some very Teenager-y problems at least in season 1 so there's a bunch of language connected to this kind of thing that doesn't pop up on the ol' Owl App. There's also a bunch of slang that I just am not equipped to deal with. Still, I get the gist, and it is kinda fun to be able to concentrate on acting choices this time around.
Speaking as a repeat viewer, it is extremely cool to see all the pieces of the puzzle get set up knowing the sheer lengths it'll go to. The start of character relationships that'll grow into feuds, obsessions or just really sad marches towards misery, the mystery that unfolds into more mysteries, how the whole story is told to us through a series of biases and/or actual lies that'll be peeled back bit by bit in the later seasons.
Also, I'm not going to worry about the viewing experience growing stale because there is a shot in the first episode that I plain don't understand, even with the benefit of hindsight. It could be that particular shot pays off in a way I've forgotten, but my read of it from what I remember doesn't make sense because it'd have the show lie to us in cinematography that it doesn't usually do.
So if there by chance are any Darkheads watching, it's about the scene where Mikkel gets kidnapped in the woods and Jonas, true to form is fumbling about in his yellow raincoat. What eventually sets Jonas running is the sight of his father covered in some sort of black goo. Now, I have no goddamn idea what that means, but my first instinct is assuming this shot is from Jonas' POV and that he in his shock, terror, trauma, confusion, etc. mistakes The Stranger, who we know is skulking about at the time, for his father and that the camera reflects this.
Now, I don't love that interpretation since that seems like a cheat for a show that doesn't usually cheat in that way at all, but there might have been some atemporal Taking Care Of Business in season 3 that I forgot about?

visions time, genuinely didnt know which one to start with so I just used a roulette wheel to go randomly lmao, thots:
I am your mother was was p funny and and heartwarming by the end, definitely very aardman lmao the pit was really good, didn't need to be subtle with its political themes and im glad for it, got emotional at the climax, with no laser swords or spaceship battles it still managed to really hit.
sith was so pretty 👨🏽‍🍳👌🏽, love this 3d trend and it incorporated it into the story, themes, cinematography(really took every frames a still literally mm delicious) and characters which was gorg also super cool for a force user interpretation i hadnt even considered lmao
journey to darkhead was pretty good wow i forgot how good mir was tbh, maybe i just havent seen any of their productions in a while or maybe the ones ive seen ive felt like they were either underbudget or stretched too thin through multiple projects but they put their all here and not just in the fight choreo like they always do lmao, the art in general was v good
the bandits of golak was also super pretty, love the star wars designs being channeled through other asian cultures like india and not just the eastern ones lmao the bright colors contrast some of the dusty backgrounds was really good, ending though😥
aau's song was so cute wtf everything looked so huggable, aau>grogu lmao, also the singing was v pretty need the soundtrack screechers reach, whats there to say but cartoon saloon is one of my fav animated artstyles, the dark heavy line weight and color palette is so delicious, and oof the ending, compelling shit
the spy dancer was also v pretty and compelling, also fun take on the famous star wars trope lmao
in the stars was great, the environmental and anti-colonization themes went great with the indigenous influenced designs of the characters

MAJOR SPOILER WARNING HIROGARU SKY FINALE!!!!!
Tumblr media
This week's episode was insane!?!! I loved it! Oh my god I loved it!! Okay let me try my best to go over it....
Skearhead is a big liar! He lied about everything, being named Skearhead (His real name being Darkhead or something), Cure Noble killing Emperor Undergu, loving Empress Undergu, so much more! He implanted memories into the Empress to keep her under his control. Raising her as a "vessel" for his dark powers. But then he reveals that he has found a better vessel, Cure Sky... This was crazy! I was very hyped to see what went down and trying not to scream and wake my siblings while watching!
So Butterfly, Wing and Majesty are all separated from Sky and Prism to fight their own mini bosses while the duo goes ahead to Skearhead. Skearhead threatened to kill Prism right before Sky's eyes, in order to save her girlfriend Sky gained dark powers that allowed her to move more freely in the Undergu lair. This is how we got Dark Sky! I love her design!! So she rescued Prism and then the darkness fully took over and she became a puppet to Skearhead. This reminded me of the scene from the Max Heart movie where Black and White were forced to fight and I hoped they would go down that path but of course Sky would never do anything to hurt her best friend and refused to harm Mashiro.
I'm a bit disappointed we didn't get to see Dark Sky fight anyone, it kind of makes her less impact than past dark cures. Still, it was amazing! The episode ended with Skearhead in his true form and the group reuniting to prepare for the final boss. Next week is the final episode, am I ready to say goodbye? No.
