I am not usually a fan of the blue and orange, color wheel recommended combo. In fact, it is very rare that I see it and think it is done well. However, in this case, I stand corrected. I actually really like the use of these opposite colors for this photo, where the blue is subtle, but noticeable. When I first started taking pictures, I always used the color wheel to help me pick the colors for my composition. As I have grown as a photographer, I have relied on it less. Instead, I have tried to use colors to help create the mood I am going for. When I am really stumped, however, I use the Adobe Color Wheel, so I can mix and match shades and hues to get a better idea of what I want to create. TIP: Understand the basics of the color wheel, color theory, and how colors go together. Then, step outside the wheel (or box) and challenge yourself to do something surprising and unconventional.
