The leaves feel more vibrant as you walk along the autumnal street. Clusters sit at the base of street poles and the brisk wind nips at your cheek and nose. You tuck your chin into your woolly scarf and hug the container of treats closer.
You stifle a yawn. Your exhaustion is well worth the output. You spent most of the night baking. It’s a hobby for you and now that you have your first steady job, you have the funds and the space to do it. And as the newbie in the office, it felt right to add a bit of warmth to the office culture.
To be honest, you’re trying to fit in. Since you started your desk job, you’ve felt that pressure. It’s all new to you and you feel like every day is a learning experience. Everyone else seems so settled and sure. It’s not like a retail gig where you’re all just trying to get through another day.
As you get to the front door of the building, your met with a familiar face. Rhodey flicks two fingers in a half-wave and drawls out ‘morning’ as he opens the door for you. You thank him and enter the lobby.
He trails you along the polished tile and you both stop before the metallic doors of the elevator. He taps the button as you tap one heel impatiently. He takes a deep breath and lets it out.
“What’s all that?” He asks.
“Oh, it’s a surprise.”
“A surprise?” He wonders.
He’s always nice. He interviewed you and helped you on your first day. He’s too busy for you to run into each other very much, but he’s always pleasant.
“Yes, you have to wait until you get upstairs to find out.”
“Oh, maybe I should see if I can beat the elevator,” he kids and looks at the door to the stairs. You chuckle. The doors ahead of you slide apart. “Ah, nevermind, seems like fate is on my side.”
He gestures you in ahead of him. The ascent is smooth enough. You’re never a fan of the rising sensation that makes you woozy. You step off thankfully, clutching the container firmly to your stomach.
“Well, I should find my desk,” you say.
“Hey wait, what about the surprise?” He asks.
“Oh, yeah, fine,” you face him and slide your arm under the container. You peel the corner of the lid back with your other hand and smile, “apple pastries. Hope you like ‘em.”
“Homemade?” He asks as he reaches for one.
“Sure are,” you chime. “I have napkins in my bag but my hands are kinda full.”
“Nah, I don’t mind a mess,” he sniffs the dessert, “think this will go well with my coffee.”
“Let me know if you like it,” you smile.
“Oh, you will know. I might just try to sneak a second,” he says and turns to head off towards the executive offices.
You shut the container and wade through the desks to your own. You put the container down and strip off the layers of your scarf, gloves, hat, and coat. You finally get yourself set as Marissa shows up.
“Do you smell cinnamon?” She asks as she wiggles her nose and plunks her insulated cup down.
“Yes, I do,” you take the lid off and gesture to the container. “Want one?”
“Hm, apple?” She asks and you nod. “What’s this all about?”
“I don’t know. I made them so I thought I’d share.”
“Huh, that’s sweet,” she remarks dryly as you offer her a napkin. “Enjoy that optimism while it lasts.”
Your cheek twitches. You notice that about the people here. Even if something good happens, they’re suspicious about it. They want to know why or the expect something horrible to follow.
As more people shuffle in, you offer them a pastry. Everyone seems to like them so far. Yet, you still have lots to go around.
You get up and Marissa glances over, “any more?”
“Well, yeah, I was going to go offer them to the managers.”
“Oh,” she darts her eyes way. “Good luck.”
“What do you mean?”
“Nothing, just... interrupting for a pastry... kinda... non-productive.”
“Oh, right,” you pout, “maybe I could just leave them in the breakroom.”
“Probably a better idea.”
You’re disappointed. You know the execs rarely go that far. Still, she’s right and she would know better than you.
You take the container and pass between the other desk. As you pass the hallway to the exec spaces, you nearly collide with someone else. He barely seems to notice until you squeak and save the desserts from spilling.
“Oh, I’m sorry,” you eke out as the man struts by only to scuff to a halt.
He turns back to you, a pinch between his brows and a tick in his cheek. You clamp your mouth shut as his dark eyes penetrate you. It’s him, Mr. Stark, the big boss. You’ve never seen him this close-up. You panic and look around as a hush falls across the office.
“Would you like one?” You ask out of sheer helplessness. You offer up the container and his eyes slowly descend. His expression doesn’t change.
To your surprise, he steps closer. He reaches into the container and takes one of the pastries. He examines it then turns away without a word. You stare after him in fear of your livelihood.
You wait until he’s gone and scurry into the breakroom. You put the container on the counter and catch your breath. Oh gosh. You just blew it, didn’t you? Over something as stupid as desserts. You shouldn’t be handing out treats like Santa Claus, you should be working!
You put your head down and march out. You go directly back to your desk and sit. You feel eyes on you. Marissa wheels closer. “Told you. Don’t bother the big guys.”
🍏
The windows are dark as you finally log off. It’s no coincidence that you’re the only one left in the office. It might be futile but you hope the extra work might save you from the fallout of your unfortunate run-in earlier.
You cross the office floor and dip into the breakroom. You claim the empty container from the counter. You’re happy that your hard work didn’t go to waste, at least.
You return to your desk and snap the lid on. You gather up your coat and pull on your hat and scarf, leaving your gloves in your pocket. You pack up your bag and sling it on your arm, clutching the container against your hip.
You push your chair in and turn. You nearly shriek, instead swallowing it to a squeal, as you find someone else standing across the space. You put your hand to your chest and gasp.
“Sorry, sir, I didn’t hear you,” you gulp. It’s Mr. Stark. Great, you don’t think you’ve done enough to stop the inevitable.
He comes closer, sliding his hands into his pockets as he approaches. He’s silent as he measures you with a long gaze. The silver at his temples twinkles against the darker strands. He stops at the corner of your desk.
“You all out?” He nods to the container.
You flinch, “um, yes, sir.”
“Too bad. Tasty,” he says. “And that little heart in the pastry... nice touch.”
“Oh,” you’re surprised by his praise, expecting a full remonstrance. “Thank you. I... I just thought it was cute but, er, sorry, I don’t mean to chatter. I should go.”
“Yeah, me too,” he says, “another late night.” He clucks and glances around the empty office. “You know, that really... made my day. Not much to look forward around here.”
Your brows rise and you smile, unsure how to respond.
“Feel like I owe ya more than a thanks,” his forehead lines as he tilts his head, “and I gotta grab something to eat,” he checks his watch and sighs, “all my meetings went long so could I pay you back?”
“Uh, sir,” you wonder.
“You like shawarma?” He intonses.
“Shawarma?” You repeat, surprised.
“I know, I know, a guy like me is supposed to live off caviar and fine steaks. You ever just get the craving for something....” he pauses and pokes his tongue into his cheek. “Nasty?”
You chuckle, “um, sure. I sometimes order fast food.”
“So? Unless...” he hesitates, “you’re busy? Looks like you’re running behind too.”
“No, sir, that’s very generous. Um, I... yeah, I could... I could go for shawarma,” you agree, relief flowing over you. You don’t think he’s going to fire you unless it’s a trick.
“Great, let me just grab my jacket.”
🍏
Dinner is delicious, though a bit awkward. Your guilt isn’t lessened as Mr. Stark insists on paying for it. You tell him you can handle it but you don’t argue that much. He’s still your boss.
You pull on your jacket as you leave the restaurant. He holds the door for you. You’re already mentally preparing to tuck into bed.
“That was nice. If I don’t have some business lunch or dinner, I usually eat alone,” he scoffs as he comes up beside you.
“Oh? Well, I’m glad you enjoyed it.”
“Just as much as that special treat you made me,” he says.
“Uh, yeah, well, I like baking--”
“You know, no one ever offers me stuff like that. They all just get quiet when they see me. Can’t even look at me,” he grumbles. “But you smiled at me.”
“I’m sorry, sir, that’s... they’re just intimidated, I’m sure. Because you’re so smart,” you say.
“What about you? You’re not?” He asks as you stop next to his sleek red car.
“No, I am,” you admit. “I’m the newest person in the office, everyone intimidates me.”
He looks at you long and hard, “really?”
“Well, yeah, I’m still learning how to do everything.”
“Who?” He asks.
“Who?”
“Who’s being mean?” He growls.
“What? No, sir. It’s not—no one’s mean. I didn’t say that.”
“Because if someone’s messing with you, I’ll happily have a special meeting with them,” his expression darkens.
“No one,” you avow. “Sorry, I must’ve said it the wrong way.”
“You did nothing wrong,” he counters.
“Right, er...” you peer over your shoulder, “I should go catch a bus--”
“A bus?” He echoes.
“Sure, it’s almost nine o’clock,” you look at your fitbit.
“My car’s right here, get in,” he says.
It’s a command and you’ve pressed your luck far enough. You nod and thank him as he opens the door. You sit in the low seat and hug your bag atop the empty container. He shuts you in and strolls around to the other side.
As he sits in front of the steering wheel, his cologne clogs your nose. It’s definitely expensive. You squirm in the seat. You’re tired and a bit impatient to be home. You still have to go to the office early tomorrow.
“Well, thanks for the ride,” you stifle a yawn and rub your eyes instead.
“Lease I can do,” he says. “Where do ya live, sweetheart?”
Sweetheart? The epithet tweaks your ear but you try not react. You worked in retail, a lot of men love that word. You give him your address.
“Really? All the way over there?” He asks. “Girl like you shouldn’t be done there,” he tuts.
“It’s not that bad,” you assure him.
You drag your hand up your cheek, trying to wake yourself up. You’re exhausted. You’re so used to the 9-5 that you’re ready to flop into bed.
You zone out at the engine hums. The soft motion of the turns lulls you and it isn’t until you’re halfway in the other direction to your apartment that your instinct kicks in. You sit up and look around.
“Where are you going?” You ask in a panic.
“I live closer, sweetheart. You can crash at mine,” he says.
“Your-- no, Mr. Stark, I can’t do that. If you don’t want to drive me, I can get an uber.” You pull on the zipper of your purse and he hits the brakes. You lurch forward as he reaches over and clasps onto your hand.
“You don’t need to do that,” he says.
“Mr. Stark?” You babble. “What’s going on?”
“What do you mean?”
“Why won’t you take me home?”
He’s quiet. His eyes fall to his hand and he lets you go. He grips the wheel again but doesn’t go. He sighs and tilts his head back.
“You gave me that pastry. With the little heart.”
“I gave them to everyone--”
“No, but you gave one to me.” He insists.
“Sir,” you sniff. “I’m sorry if I did something wrong. Please don’t fire me.”
“Fire you--” He turns to look at you, “no, no, no.”
He fixes his gaze straight ahead and presses on the gas again. He rolls forward and turns down another street. You unzip your purse and once more, he stomps on the brake. You lurch forward and the seat belt digs into your chest as your bag falls onto your feet.
“Don’t touch that phone,” he snarls.
“Sir,” you sit back, rubbing where the belt bit into you, “sorry.”
“It’s just... I can’t see where I’m going with the glare,” he exhales shakily.
“Okay,” you whimper.
He drives on. You don’t move. Your heart is racing. You don’t understand what’s going on.
He enters the nicer neighbourhoods. Where the houses have that modern boxy feel, tall glass windows for walls, and iron gates around trimmed hedges. Their residents spends as much time there as their vacation homes on the next continent.
He hits a button and steers toward one of the gates as it slides open on a motor. He rolls through as you sink into yourself. This must be his house. You’re still spinning with the suddenness of it all. From the office to dinner to this. One moment stoic and silent, the next smiling and kind, and now...
As you look at him, his eyes are so dark that the swallow the glow from the dash and the security lights mounted on the house. He shifts into park and kills the engine. You twiddle your fingers and watch him. He reaches over and presses the button on your seat belt.
You wince and look away as he trails his touch up your arm and to your shoulder. He walks his fingers up over your collar and along you neck. He traces the curve of your jaw as you shiver.
“You gave me something sweet, baby,” he grabs your chin and makes you look at him again. “I just wanna return the favour.”
He leans across the space between your seats and pushes his lips to yours. You murmur and grab onto his wrist. You feel the tendons tense as he squeezes you tighter. His mouth parts from yours and he presses his forehead to yours. You’re locked in his hold, paralysed.
He hums and licks his lips, “You taste just as good.”

The guests mingled and the drinks flowed as you left the kitchen area and headed off back towards the main hall.  Wishing you could be back at home in your nice warm bed as various guests milled around and soaked up the party atmosphere, your boss had insisted however that you be on hand to make sure everything ran smoothly despite the fact that this was not how you had planned on spending your birthday.  After all, as she was quick to inform you, a Stark party was an entertainment extravaganza and organizing one could make or break any firm.  So here you stood, a beacon of poise and professionalism as Avengers and guests alike talked, drank and appeared to be having a fabulous time.  If only the same could be said for you.
Looking out over the expanse of guests and servers while trying to calculate whether or not there was enough of everything to keep all of them satisfied, as well as thinking of all the other activities you could be presently engaged in, your distracted state forced you to jump a little however when the words whispered from a body behind your back brought you back to your current task and location.  "Hey sweetheart, this is a great party you’ve thrown together.  Didn’t mean to startle you though.  May I buy you a drink at the bar?" the obvious male voice asked and you thanked all the gods both old and new that you had kept your retort about the drink being free to yourself when you turned around to find none other than Steve Rogers invading what little space remained in the doorway.
"Thank you Captain Rogers but unfortunately some of us are actually working here tonight.  Now if you'll excuse me," you continued politely while also failing to note the disappointment that crossed his chiseled features, "but I really must get back to things," you finished before walking away and picking up a tray to begin clearing up some empty glasses you saw sitting unattended on an nearby table without sparing him a second thought.  But perhaps you should have.
Standing there a while longer in your wake now, Steve bit his lip as he tried to figure out what exactly it was about your rebuff that didn't sit well with him however.  Sure he had spent his younger years being practically ignored and ridiculed by the opposite sex and though Sam had now taken up the shield in his place, he was still Steve Rogers and it irked him to be dismissed, however politely, in favor of you doing a job that was quite clearly several steps beneath you.  Thinking on how he could make you see the error of your snap decision, he was pulled from his thoughts however as a hand came down to rest upon his shoulder.
"Hey Capsicle, you enjoying yourself, old man?" Tony asked as he came to stand beside his friend now while snatching a glass of champagne from the tray of a passing server.
Muttering some half hearted compliment in reply about how well the event seemed to be going as his eyes continued to track your movements, Steve excused himself from Tony's presence however with talk of joining Clint and Sam at the pool table as a means of distracting himself from the irritation bubbling just beneath the surface.  Irritation still clearly focused on you.
Feeling eyes continue to track you as now you handed off your tray of empty glasses to one of the many servers working the floor, glancing around to find Steve watching you while Sam chatted at him, you were never more thankful to your assistant Shona however when her voice spoke in your earpiece to tell you there was an issue in the kitchen needing your attention.  Heading off there quickly then to discover that a spill on the floor had caused a server to slip and injure themselves, you quickly assessed the situation before dealing with each individual fallout.  Making sure that the area was avoided while you checked out the injured party, a smile and a couple of "I'm fine" arguments later found you happy that the person in question was indeed well enough to return to work.  Though you did switch up their assignment to give them an easier time as the night was really only just beginning.  Then making sure yourself that the spill which caused the commotion was thoroughly cleaned up, you headed back upstairs to ensure everything there was running as smoothly as possible.  But somehow that wasn't quite the case.
Taking some time to stop by the bar once you returned to the entertainment hall, you ordered a small whiskey to calm yourself after the kitchen debacle before turning around to come face to face once more with the former American patriot and his insufferable attitude.  "I thought you weren't drinking tonight sweetheart.  Or is it just me you refuse to have a drink with?" he asked with a raised eyebrow and you were actually relieved when the appearance of Tony Stark rescued you from coming up with some answer that didn’t sound like the telling off you wanted to direct his way.  At least momentarily relieved anyway.
"Ari darling, is everything all right?  F.R.I.D.A.Y. alerted me to an issue in the kitchen."
Turning away from Steve now to face the host of the party, you plastered on your best professional smile and once again greeted the man of the hour.  "Yes Mr. Stark.  It was a very minor incident, no harm was done and things are once again running like clockwork.  I hope you're happy with everything," you finished as Steve continued to observe you in a way you now felt mildly uncomfortable with.
"Yes darling, everything is delightful and I will definitely be sending my compliments onto your boss," he said, as like Steve his eyes traveled the length and breadth of your body uninvited.  "By the way," he continued, "how many more times am I going to have to ask you to call me Tony?" he asked, reaching out now to accept his drink from the bartender while his fingers grazed your shoulder in the process.
"At least once more I'm sure Mr. Stark.  Now if both of you gentlemen will excuse me, parties really don't run themselves I'm afraid," you answered politely before placing your empty glass back down on the bar and heading as far into the throng of people as you could possibly get, resulting in you being well out of earshot when their conversation started up.
"Damn Tony, even you're not beyond her indifference," Steve said as he too accepted a drink and stared after your retreating figure once more while his mind took him places his body was only aching to go.  "What do you think her problem is?"
"I don't quite know Rogers but I gotta say, she has me intrigued," his former teammate answered as he too finished his glass while his eyes joined Steve's as you disappeared into the crowd.  Now you just had to stay there and hope no more unwanted attention found its way towards you before this night was over.  Not that your luck held up very long in that regard however.
Glad to be away now from the two heroes, who for some reason you couldn't explain creeped you the hell out, you were so busy fleeing their attention and looking over your notes on the event so far that you almost toppled over however when you walked straight into a decidedly solid yet muscular mass.  Looking up from your clipboard then as two strong arms reached out to prevent you falling backwards onto your ass, your eyes now locked on those of the Sorcerer Supreme and for some unexplained reason, a sudden chill ran through you as he spoke.
"Easy there princess, wouldn't want you to hurt yourself," his silky voice said as he held you firmly while you tried to right yourself.  Finally regaining your composure, you stepped out of his arms and looking around was thankful at least that no one seemed to have witnessed your mishap.  "I hope you're enjoying yourself," Stephen continued as he brought you out of your thoughts and back instead to the reason you were once again so distracted.
"Sorry, what did you say?" you asked, giving the man your most professional look which had now been well practiced by this time of the evening.
"I asked if you were enjoying the party," he repeated as you looked behind you also to see two other Avengers watching this interaction now with the most curious of expressions clouding their features.
"I'll enjoy myself when this party is over and I've got the week off to recuperate," you replied before raising your hand to your earpiece as if to accept a call before walking away without another word.  Standing in your wake then as you didn't even dignify him with an excuse, Stephen Strange now headed off towards the other side of the room as a dark corner beckoned to the three disgruntled heroes.
Continuing on with your duties then for the rest of the night while simultaneously rebuffing numerous more advances from the three heroes who couldn't seem to understand that not everyone wanted to worship at their feet, you were finally thankful at least when the last party guest left and one by one Earth's Mightiest Heroes began to retire to their various quarters.  Exhausted beyond belief now at the night you had just put down, you promised yourself that the next time you spoke to Adriana you would tell her in no uncertain terms that you quit.  Sure the money was great and you were damn good at your job, but the type of attention you had been fending off all night from people who were supposed to be the best humanity had to offer, told you that enough was enough.  They were supposed to know better and, birthday or not, it was not in your contract to spend all your time massaging their clearly inflated egos.  No, perhaps it was finally time instead to follow your passion and bury yourself among a mountain of library books like you had always dreamed and leave the event organizing to those better suited to handling famous people.
Tumblr media
Tidying up the final few bits and pieces then while making sure the last remaining unnecessary lights were all shut off, you headed off along the corridor now and was so focused on reaching the elevator that you failed to notice the tinkling sound that signaled the danger you were in until the walls of the building began to shimmer and shift as if out of focus.  But by then it was too late.
Watching in disbelief as the elevator that would take you to safety disappeared, a new sound behind you had you turning sharply instead to face the first avenger and one third of the bane of your existence throughout the night.  "Now sweetheart, you're going to make us think you don't like us," Steve said while you looked around frantically for a means of escape as well as his other two teammates you could only assume the 'us' referred to.
Seeing no other people however and so turning back again towards what once had been your way out, a glowing crack in the wall before you gave you hope.  Not much, but at least it was a start.  Not daring then to glance back at the man behind you now as you quickly decided the unknown was better by far than what currently presented itself to you, you took a deep breath, closed your eyes and dove through it without caring what happened or where you ended up.  At least until you opened your eyes in a somewhat similar place.
Running through this new corridor now as a shimmering orange portal appeared behind you, you didn't give it another thought however as you reached out and rushed through the first door you came across.  Which proved to be another monumental mistake.  One it seemed you had been making consistently since you had first agreed to supervise this cursed event.  For that's where it seemed this night had been headed.
Resting your head and hands against the door now as you tried to control your ragged breathing and racing heartbeat, your blood ran cold however when a soft whisper reached your ears and confirmed that this destination too held a figure you were not much willing to entertain.  "At last darling, I've been waiting."
Turning around slowly to face a now suited up Iron Man, your fingers reached for the handle of the door again as something about his demeanor told you that this was not the hero the world knew him to be, even if his behavior all night had not already convinced you.  Rising from his position on a bed you were now just noticing, panic gripped you more fiercely however as the door that would have offered you salvation moments ago suddenly disappeared and thereby confirming that something sinister was definitely at play and you were at its mercy.
Moving around the now closed off box as the man before you stalked towards you like a jungle predator, a ray of hope arrived again as another shimmering portal appeared before you however.  Deciding again that what you didn’t know had to be far more enticing than what Tony Stark and this scene seemed interested in, you dodged around Iron-Man, jumped through the portal and ran the length of yet another corridor until a familiar room told you that you had not actually left the Avengers Towers behind.  Which gave you hope at least that your car was waiting here somewhere to whisk you away to safety.  Hope that was soon to be shattered beyond repair leaving nothing but devastation in its wake however.
Slowing down as you entered the entertainment room which now showed no signs of ever having hosted the night’s party, you froze completely however at the sight of the Sorcerer Supreme standing by the floor to ceiling windows, bathed in the moonlight shining through from the world outside.  Turning his head to gaze upon you now, the sinister glow in his once kind eyes alerted you to the possible danger he too posed and it sent a shiver down your spine.  One of these men you realized now would have been enough to handle at the best of times, but three of them in their current guises was a damn nightmare.  One you had to escape from.
Holding onto this feeling now and looking nervously behind you into the corridor you had just left, you began to slowly edge backwards towards the door when two more portals appeared and out walked the only other two men who gripped your heart as if death itself had come to visit.  You were finally outnumbered.  Standing now on either side of the man you suspected responsible for this whole freaky moving tower thing, a flapping at your back forced you to shift your focus from them however, as a six-eyed black bird appeared, blocked your escape and drained whatever hope you had left to you.  Frightened beyond belief now at the terrifying images that held you in their grasp, you still had enough wits about you however to not just surrender without a fight and so diving beneath the creature's expansive wings you ran like hell from the three former heroes that seemed to have lost their minds while hoping they stayed as far away from you for as long as possible.  Which it seems was similar to what they had in mind.  For now at least.
Not daring to look behind you then as an intense flapping sounded in your ears, you kept running until suddenly, the floor gave way beneath you as yet another portal took out your feet and swallowed you whole.  Tumbling endlessly now through what appeared to be the same corridor over and over and over again, as portal after portal appeared beneath you, fear gripped you like never before but you finally stopped screaming at least when the massive, scary bird reappeared and swooped in between you and yet another portal.  Hanging on to this creature now for dear life as exhaustion finally started to creep over you, you wished you had fought harder however when it landed back in the entertainment room with the three heroes determined it seemed to turn your life into a living nightmare.  For what else could they have planned?
Standing where you'd left them still as the creature now settled on its powerful legs so as to allow you to alight, yet another shock ran through you however as Doctor Strange waved his hand and the room around you disappeared to be replaced by what could only be described as a millionaire's representation of a caveman's room.  Boasting nothing but a bar, coffee table and some couches spread out throughout the spacious structure, it was the thick stone walls and no visible exit however that really caught and held your attention.  For the only light here now was all artificial and as a result it drew your eyes elsewhere.
Looking around as the guys made themselves comfortable now, you would have been totally devastated by the lack of escape options if it wasn't for the events which happened next however.  Eyeing up every possible shadow for even the smallest hope of escape, this was quickly extinguished as Steve Rogers stood before you and encased you now in his powerful arms.  Struggling against his grip then as he kissed you harshly, panic overtook you further as a coil of magical energy wound around your neck and snaked down your arms to completely secure your wrists.  Bound now in the blond man's arms as Doctor Strange and Iron-Man approached you from either side, their close-up appearance simply confirmed what this whole night had already shown you … something wasn't quite right with these heroes.
Closing your eyes again against this realization as the room shimmered and changed around you once more, the enormous bed you had seen earlier appearing against one wall now, tucked neatly between four impressive stone pillars simply confirmed what your gut so far had screamed at you.  It was definitely their plan to claim you and your senses just couldn’t seem to handle this truth as you tried your best to shut out what was happening all around you.  But it didn’t last long unfortunately.  Dressed in darker hues of black, red, blue, silver, orange and purple, time would soon reveal just how far these three men had fallen however and that revelation alone held all your attention now, at least until their voices broke through whatever panic their actions and altered appearances had triggered.
"Do you think you might have terrified her, Strange?" you heard Tony ask as your eyes remained shut to the world around you while you shrank back farther in fear as a snap of the sorcerer's fingers rid you of what remained of your tattered outfit before your bound and naked form was then moved away from the other two deranged monsters to the bed prepared specially for you.
"Of course he did, Tony.  Look at that thing," Steve replied and tentatively opening one eyelid now as the sheets beneath you caressed your thoroughly exhausted and naked body, you shut it just as quickly however when the terrifying visage of the bird that brought you back to this nightmare filled your vision once more as it now settled on a perch above your head in a makeshift headboard that was by far the most horrifying scene you had witnessed thus far.  Which is why you wished this terrifying experience would end there.  But these beasts had plans that totally went against anything you now wished for.
Hoping against hope now that your tiny movements would go unnoticed, all hope was dashed like waves against the shore however when the final voice reached your ears as Doctor Strange snickered and ran his fingers now along your moistening cheek.  "Well that's my bad I guess, but you didn't exactly live up to your end of the deal now did you?" he questioned as he snapped his fingers once more and magically shed all the clothes covering up his impressive physique while you watched in abject horror as his equally terrifying companions did the same.  Not that their actions distracted you too long however as his words solidified in your brain and brought you back to some semblance of your usually rational self.
"Deal?" you questioned forcefully now as the three fully naked men focused solely on you then in a way that told you they couldn't wait to see what argument you planned to set forth.  But you simply ignored them and continued on before your nerve and this sudden burst of anger faded to be replaced with fear and panic once more.  "What deal?  I never agreed to any of this.  Why the hell would I?"
"Well now, that is true I'm afraid.  You never did willingly agree to be ours,” Tony interrupted before allowing the evil Doctor Strange to clarify further.  “But you are the one who signed the contract for the party while your boss was out of town.  After that it was simply a matter of adding a few extra lines of text here and there and now you belong to us forever ... body and soul.  Isn't magic wonderful?" he finished with an inhuman laugh then as he now looked over at his companions and winked at them before speaking once more while his fingers delicately wormed their way down your trembling body towards your weeping flower as his lips came to rest against the shell of your ear.  "So which one of us do you want to be fucked by first, princess?”
And not waiting for a response however, all three of these fallen heroes descended towards the bed and spent the following hours claiming your body in every manner of depraved sex act that fueled their lust and forced you to accept everything they gave you despite the screams that tore forth from your lungs, shattered your soul and remade you into the perfect vessel from which they planned to start a whole new brood of dark heroes with you as their chosen queen.

re dark!tony for "civil war au where steve gets imprisoned in the raft and he and tony have conjugal visits" 🤤
tony promises he's working on getting steve out of the raft, but he thinks about how nice this is because he always knows where to find steve now
manipulating steve is so easy now because of how much steve relies on him to know what's happening out in the world and how steve sees him as an ally and his only hope
shoving him up against the wall of his cell and saying in his ear let's see you try to leave now, who's going to help you now?
handcuffs
the first time tony visits, steve's on edge and who can blame him, really, after all that's happened. tony doesn't rub it in, doesn't talk down to steve. he looks contrite, even, zeroing in on the way steve's handcuffs dig into his wrist, the skin perpetually red and aching. the six by eight cell can barely withstand steve's breadth, let alone his and tony's combined.
tony looks at the dark circles under steve's big blue eyes and the shadows lurking inside them and thinks, "i could do better." sure, steve's a prisoner but he's still steve and he deserves the best tony has to offer.
and maybe steve comes to look forward to tony's visits, rare as they are in the beginning. he's steve's only contact with the outside world, the other avengers in a separate facility altogether. tony's always had his back and this time isn't any different.
with every visit, tony makes magic happen. steve gets a bigger cell with a real bed that can actually bare his weight. proper meals and new handcuffs that don't chafe.
and when tony fucks him, pinned down against his new mattress, the chain of the handcuffs clenched tight in his fist, steve does not bleed.

Would you ever write hardcore bad guy Villain!Tony with zero redemption but also make it Irondad? lol
Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh. I have *done* that!! It was like a while back. 2019? I'd not been in the fandom for very long. But my husband wanted a dark!irondad and spiderson AU. I think he didn't believe I would write it... I don't *love* it. Mostly I don't like the POV... But it was a very interesting fic to write.
Finding Spider-man
Spider-man seems to have lost his mind and is roaming New York causing chaos. Clint Barton is sent to track him down and get a handle on him. With the help of Tony Stark, a search ensues.

Part Thirteen || Masterpost (mobile) || Fanfic masterpost
“Where are Whitney and Taline?” you asked quietly.
“At home,” Tony answered curtly. “Keep back away from the smoke.” He was grilling food on the back porch.
You had not seen Whitney since she gave birth to her and Thor’s child almost a couple of weeks ago. The guys were over for Poker Night and Tony had said that the two of them plus the children would be coming as well.
“Oh,” was all you said. But when you realized it was clear he was not going to offer anything more, you prodded, “Are they not coming at all then?”
“Taline is coming soon.”
“Whitney?”
“No.”
“But why?”
Bucky sounded behind you, startling you, “Cause Whitney is being cuckoo yet again.” He caught Tony’s glare and asked, “What? It’s true!”
Tony said piqued, “She’ll be fine.”
“Eventually,” Bucky snorted. “I am just glad it’s not my ass having to deal with her moods this time.”
Bucky reached around Tony to grab a bun but Tony stopped him forcibly. “Over there. Now.”
Reluctantly, Bucky followed his lead. Tony exchanged some quick words with him, his expression stern. He caught you looking and gestured for you sharply to go before looking away again.
“Aren’t you not supposed to be standing so close to the smoke?” Sam asked as he walked up. You had instinctively taken some steps towards Tony and Bucky, wanting to hear what they were saying. Since you had become pregnant, no one smoked cigarettes near you and you were scolded to stay away from the grill.
You stepped back and gave him room to move in to flip the burgers.
Tony and Bucky came back and Tony thanked Sam for watching the food. He shot you a look as he took the spatula.
“Y/N, I told you to back up.”
Sighing annoyed that you were being bossed around and clearly excluded from what was going on with Whitney, you turned away to find your seat again - one that was comfortable for you to sit in this late in your pregnancy. Steve caught your eye and patted the one next to him out on the lawn with a smirk. You only narrowed your eyes in return and moved to yours again which was thankfully furthest away from him and directly in Tony’s line of sight.
Taline showed up with Amelia and Quinn some time later — with Peter escorting them in your car. Peter approached Tony before anyone, speaking in hushed tones, which distracted you from fully greeting Taline — the kids ran off immediately, Quinn following Amelia as she ran towards Steve.
“Hey, you okay?” Taline asked gently.
“Yeah, yeah,” you told her, tearing yourself away from staring in Tony’s direction. “How are you? How is Whitney?”
“I am good. Glad to get outside. Amelia and Quinn were driving me nuts all morning. Now Steve can watch her for a bit before their game and I can relax.”
How she trusted Steve to do that was beyond you. She was scared of him, so why would she trust their daughter and another’s child around him?
But she had by stepped one of your questions and you believed she did it on purpose.
“Well, grab some food and put your feet up for a few! And how’s Whitney?”
“She’s feeling under the weather,” Taline answered quickly. “So, Thor stayed home with her.”
Before you could prod further, Peter was at your sides and plopped into one of the free chairs.
“I brought potato salad!” he announced to you. “Dad said you’ve been craving it something fierce.”
You patted his cheek, “Thank you.”
You let the subject of Whitney go.
<><><>
“Everything seems to be in order,” Doctor Irwin said cheerfully, closing your case file. “Are you sure though that there is nothing out of the ordinary as of late?” You nodded. “Well then, only a couple more weeks until your due date! Tony has me as well as Selena on speed dial I am sure. Selena is going to take great care of you during the birth.”
“I believe you,” you told him flatly, tapping your fingers on your abdomen.
“You’re sure nothing is different?”
“Yes. I am just… nervous.”
“That is natural. It’s a big life event. Just as long as those nervous feelings don’t become overwhelming for you.”
What about this isn’t overwhelming? you thought to yourself bitterly.
“I’ll be honest if they do.”
<><><>
The rain pattered quietly on the large umbrella above the table on the back porch. September has arrived and brought rain that August had neglected. The ground sorely needed it.
Everything was sore - your back, your knees, your feet. Your due date had been two days before and you were praying the baby would come soon and relieve you.
The fresh dawn air brought comfort to you and a certain calm.
The sliding glass door opened and Tony stood there in his pajama bottoms, hair disheveled. He demanded, “Y/N, it’s freezing out here and you’re not supposed to be out here anyway. Come inside!”
“I have a blanket,” you protested, lifting it slightly off your stomach to show him.
“Now, Y/N,” he said with just as much force.
Huffing, you tore the blanket away from your lap and stood from the table with as much grace as you could.
“Watch the attitude.”
“Well, I don’t have any control over my body and therefore my emotions and I just wanted to sit out in the cool, fresh air! And maybe see a deer!” You snapped as you walked past him back into the cabin.
Tony grabbed your elbow making you come to a stop and he came round to face you.
“Well, if it makes you feel any better, you have me here all the time for the next few weeks and you can go outside to your hearts content. With me present. It’ll just be me. I don’t want anyone else taking care of you. Or the baby. Now, come sit down and let me make you some toast and bacon. Are you hungry?”
You waddled towards the kitchen table and admitted, “A little.”
You were almost completely sat when you felt a pang deep inside and your breath hitched. You had not had cramps for almost 9 months and they were certainly not welcome.
Except… they could not be period cramps. But you did not want to jump to conclusions.
When another one hit ten minutes later, you had to say something.
“Tony?” you said, trying to keep the waver out of your voice.
“Hmm?” He asked flipping the bacon.
“I think I’m having contractions.”

fuck it, Avengers Dead Dove Do Not Eat fic idea/outline
This is mainly an AU for my Avengers OC Desmond - he grew up in a lab and has a regenerative mutation because of it. In his main story/universe, Tony and Pepper unofficially adopt him and his life is able to finally turn around. The set up is the same here, except that Tony Stark is a Monster with Too Much Power I can try and write it as an "x reader" fic if people want, but portions of it do hinge on Desmond and his own origin story, plus I'd need a beta reader to go through and swap pronouns over. Anyway here's some quick thoughts on the fic, laying down a little bit of groundwork as far as Desmond's situation goes. I can't guarantee I'll actually write it though hhhhh TW: NON-CON (the focus is Desmond's sexual assault at the hands of Tony & Bruce), transphobia, and probably a whole load of other stuff if I do write it
DARKFIC – Tony x Desmond x Bruce Non-con, DEAD DOVE DO NOT EAT
Desmond is taken in by Tony around the same time [somewhere around Avengers2012?]
Because of all the tech and money Tony has provided SHIELD he’s gained too much freedom and power – no one is really able to stop him from doing what he wants, because he could rip away nearly all of SHIELD’s resources at this point
What Tony wants, in “adopting” Desmond, is a plaything (he also brings Bruce into it- he's in this weird limbo where he still joins Tony in assaulting Desmond, but he apologizes nearly the entire time, which makes Desmond feel worse)
Fury feels partly responsible for what Tony (and by extension Bruce) is doing to Desmond – he’s unable to do anything and the guilt eats at him - Fury's constant apologizing and trying to “make it up to him” just makes Desmond feel worse (are you noticing a trend)
Pepper is also trapped – first in her job and now in her marriage w/ Tony – she and Desmond, while living together and going through the same things, aren’t able to do anything to help each other, aside from sympathetic glances now and then (Tony doesn’t allow them together unsupervised maybe?)
Pepper tries to comfort Desmond when she can - by making him food or other small things. She genuinely cares about Desmond, but is really doing these small things for him so she doesn't have to think about her own suffering
Tony won't let Desmond get any of the gender affirming surgeries he wants - claims it's simply not possible with his healing abilities and won't let him talk about it past that - Tony really just wants more control over him (potential forced pregnancy?)
Tony does not allow Desmond to see Loki at all, so sadly that relationship never has a chance
Luckily though he does still meet Bucky - they keep their friendship a secret and Bucky really wants to do something about Desmond's situation but he can't without risking Desmond losing his one single solitary genuinely safe place (Bucky's room) so he's stuck just trying to comfort Desmond and be there to put him back together whenever he needs
Steve either does not notice all of this or he is in denial, so Desmond can't go to him (there has been at least one incident where Desmond felt safe enough to vent a bit to Steve - Tony knew everything by dinner that night, rip)
Steve's unwillingness or inability to see how awful Tony is towards Desmond and Pepper causes a rift between him and Bucky
Potential happy/bittersweet ending - Bucky somehow manages to help Desmond escape and they flee to.....idk somewhere. Maybe they're just on the run from then on. Maybe they go to Wakanda? Maybe Shuri and T'challa take them in and hide them?
I really want to try and find a way to work Loki into this, since he's such an important character in Desmond's canon universe, but idk how I'd go about doing that - unless!!!!! Thor finally catches wind of what's happening and offers to take Desmond to Asgard (Bucky too cause he's not leaving this poor guy all by himself). I guess that could still happen, but it could be like a failed escape attempt? And after that, Loki gets involved in trying to help Desmond or something? I'm hesitant to give Desmond more people who want to help - I feel like that makes it less dark? And if I write this thing I'm going whole-hog like it's gonna make me sick to write it I bet lmao someone help me
idk I haven't really thought about a coherent plot line, just this absolute nightmare scenario lmao
anyway if this sounds like something you'd wanna read please tell me!!! I have so many ideas for this but I don't wanna write and post it if nobody wants it, yknow?

Eye For A Eye
Tumblr media
One day, Tony received news that his closest friend and ally, y/n, had been killed in battle. The news hit him hard, and he turned to alcohol to numb the pain. He spiraled out of control, and his behavior became increasingly erratic.
As time passed, Tony became obsessed with the idea of bringing y/n back to life. He poured all of his resources into researching and developing technology that could bring the dead back to life.
But his obsession took a dark turn when he began experimenting on live subjects. He kidnapped people off the streets and subjected them to gruesome experiments, all in the name of his quest to bring y/n back.
As his experiments became more extreme, Tony's mind began to unravel. He became increasingly isolated, and his once brilliant mind became consumed by madness.
One day, the police finally caught up to Tony and raided his lab. They found a horrific scene, with mutilated bodies and evidence of Tony's twisted experiments.
Tony was arrested and sentenced to life in prison. But even behind bars, his madness continued to fester. He spent his days in a haze, muttering to himself about his failed attempts to bring y/n back to life.
As the years passed, Tony became a mere shell of his former self. He died alone in his prison cell, consumed by his dark obsession and haunted by the ghosts of his past.
I’ve been so busy, I had to rely on repost but I’m here and heathy!!

Crash and Burn 5
Tumblr media
My warnings are not exhaustive but be aware this is a dark fic and may include potentially triggering topics. Please use your common sense when consuming content. I am not responsible for your decisions.
Character: Tony Stark
Summary: a powerful man comes crashing into your life. Literally.
As usual, I would appreciate any and all feedback. I’m happy to once more go on this adventure with all of you! Thank you in advance for your comments and for reblogging ❤️
Tumblr media
You sit on the back porch, reading a book as you avoid the dingy tabacco laden walls inside. After claiming a couple slices of pizza, you quickly evacuated, your mom latched onto your guest like gum beneath a diner table. You're happy enough to be alone.
You just want it all done with. You want to be done with him.
Your mom just needs to do one thing. Get the trailer and be done with the man overdosing on his own ego. She's never been on to let things go, especially nothing like this.
The screen door opens and closes. You stay as you are.
“Your chariot awaits, princess,” Tony declares as he approaches. You look up as he stands behind you.
“What do you mean?” You close the book and stand, not liking how his pant leg touches your arm. You face him as his mouth slants, the silver in his goatee catching the dimming sunlight.
“Me. Gonna take you for another ride.” He rests his hand on the wooden railing as you stand on the step below.
“No,” you say bluntly. “I have work tomorrow so I need to go get ready for bed.”
“What’s the matter? If you don’t like pepperoni, you could’ve said something,” he tilts his head. "I thought you had extensive experience with meat... workong in a deli and all."
“Really? You know this isn’t about the pizza,” you sneer.
“I know what it’s about as well as you.” He steps closer and looks down at you. “It’s this.”
He swirls his finger between you.
You narrow your eyes and grimace. “This... what?”
“Sexual tension. It’s like a noose, isn’t it? I’m close to gagging.”
You glare back at him, “you really believe every woman on earth wants you?”
“I know it so let's stop fucking around just get to the fucking.” He winks.
You laugh. A snort then a scoff then a guffaw. “Wow, what a line. Look you can buy us pizza and replace what you owe us but I'm nor impressed. You city people think we're all just a bunch of trailer trash and maybe we are, doesn't mean we wanna be like you.”
“Oh, but you definitely want me,” he intones.
You sigh, “I want to go to my room and never see you again.”
“I like that. The hard-to-get thing always gets me going.” He gets closer and you lean away.
“The hard to stand thing doesn't do it for me,” you retort. “Thanks for doing the bare minimum but I'm over it. Either we get what you destroyed or you go back and laugh at your little mistake with your rich buddies.”
“You're sounding bitter, sweetheart. Why don't you let me give you some sugar?” He reaches for you and you dodge his hand.
“Please, quit that. I told you, I am not into it.”
“You aren't? Well your mom sure is. Yeah, we made quite the deal. She's going to get her trailer and an empty nest.” He puts his hands out in nonchalance, “what can I say? I'm a great negotiator.”
“What–”
“Well, I mean you're not going anywhere here. Working at a deli and for what? I told her, you don't gotta be stuck here. Eating off her table, living under her roof. You're an adult.” He crosses his arms and smirks.
Yep, that sounds like your mom. She's reminded you a billion times how you've burdened her with your existence, just as your grandmother does to her. And he plucked on that string until he hit a harmony.
“What did you do?” You ask.
“You make it sound like I did something wrong. Sweetheart, I'm doing you a favour. I'm getting you out of this pit. A girl like you, you can't hope for better because I'll tell you something, there's nothing out there better than Tony Stark.”
He preens in victory. You squint and clap the book against your leg.
“Come on, everyone should see New York at least once,” he tries to tap your nose and you evade him, but not entirely. Instead, he hits your chest and you feel a sudden constriction across it.
Your ripped up by your chest as metal expands and twists around your torso. You shriek as you fly upwards, encased in a cocoon the blocks out the wind. The propulsion of the suit has you disoriented and rattling.
You hear a whir and look over to see the marquee red and gold of the iconic Iron Man. Tony grabs you, your gauntlet caught against his like a magnet, and he zooms off onto sky, dragging you with him. You cry out as you can do nothing but flail.
“Relax, sweetheart,” he voice comes through the speakers built into the helmet, “you don't wanna pass out in this thing. Trust me.”
“What the hellllllll!” You holler.
“Just wait till you see that New York skyline,” he chortles.
Your disbelief paralyses you. How can he do this? Well, you can't stop him. He's been enabled his whole life and you've just become another pawn to his games.

I wanted to draw the winter soldier for years but never dared to, I thought I’d definitely mess it up. Late to the party as always, but I finally dared to do it 😊
This one is based on a photo that Sebastian Stan took by chance prior to the Civil War film, having no idea what’s about to come :> I thought it’s wonderfully angsty 😌💅

The Princess (and the chaos she brings with her) - steve rogers x fem!reader (1/?)
Tumblr media
Summary: when Thor asked the avengers to guard a dear friend of his, they didn't think twice before saying yes. What they didn't know was that said friend is the princess of one of the nine realms, and a lost love of one Captain Rogers.
Part 1 // I thought you were dead // word count: 3.5k
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"(y/n), you have to eject, right now!" Steve screamed over the torrents of wind whistling through the ship. Schmidt was dead, gone. So was the tesseract. But it wasn't over yet. "I have to put her in the water!"
The girl behind him widened her eyes, battling against the elements to reach him. "There's no world in which I let you do that, Captain!"
"I'm not asking for permission!"
"Well then, I guess we go down together!" She painstakingly made her way to him, every step a feat of strength. Her previously neatly pinned curls no longer even resembled what they once were as her hair whipped around her face.
As Steve turned to face her, she somehow still looked angelic. He felt that right now, she was more heavenly than ever. He couldn't let her die with him.
"Buckle in." He commanded, as they began their quick descent. He looked at her, the first woman who had ever made him feel seen, the only person he had ever met who was as crazy as he was.
As the ice flew closer, he turned and placed a hand tenderly on her face. Tears welled in his eyes as his mind wandered to the future they could've had. God, they could have been amazing.
"I'm sorry, (y/n)." He whispered. She could only just hear it, even though they were right next to each other.
He pulled the yellow ejection lever on the seat she had just buckled herself into, watching as her eyes widened. "No! Steve, no!" She lifted her hands to stop him, to jam the lever, anything to stay with him. She wasn't quick enough.
Steve closed his eyes as her seat was ejected, hearing her scream his name. There was no world where he allowed her to go down with him, and he trusted that wherever she ended up, Stark and Peggy would find her. He hoped they would be able to find him, too.
He hadn't prayed in a long time, but as he went down, he bargained with God for her safety.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"It is my honour to introduce the new and improved Captain America and the Howling Commandos exhibit, in honour of the 100th birthday of Captain Steven Grant Rogers." The crowd clapped as the senator stepped off the podium, motioning for Steve to take the mic. Bucky and Sam laughed at how uncomfortable the Captain was as he stood thanking everyone for an exhibit he never wanted. All part of the job, he supposed.
After the handshakes, and the photo ops, and the autographs and the meet and greets, the boys finally got relative peace to wander around the new exhibition.
"I can't believe you used to wear these stupid suits." Sam laughed, standing in front of the main exhibit. Bucky sighed, budging Sam's shoulder. "Says the asshole who wears a bird suit to fight." He retorts.
Steve laughed at his friends antics, but walked away when he noticed an addition to the exhibit he hadn't seen before. He stared, wide eyed at the name in front of him.
(Y/N): THE MISSING HERO?
Steve found himself drinking in every inch of the gorgeous photo underneath the text, her bright smile and barely visible freckles. The lighting highlighted the different hues in her immaculately pinned hair. She looked just like an angel, as she always did in real life.
Steve looked down, forlorn eyes investigating very few artefacts in the glass exhibit. Her folded uniform, found in her room after the plane went down. The blush lipstick you wore every day. Finally, an object that Steve didn't recognise. A golden ring, encrusted in unidentified jewels and a family crest no one knew. He frowned.
He had known her only a short few months, but he regretted never asking about her family. And now, it would haunt him that he never did until his last breath.
"They never found her, huh?" Bucky placed his covered hand on Steve's shoulder, a sadness tinged in his voice. He had only met (y/n) briefly, but he knew even then that Steve's heart rested in the palm of that woman's hand.
He had asked about her, once, but the look on Steve's face when her name was mentioned told him everything he needed to know.
"No. Howard searched for years, found nothing. Turned out that she had lied on her intake forms for the SSR, too. We don't even know if (y/n) was really her name." He took a beat. "We have no idea if she survived or not."
Steve didn't have to make the subtext clear, Bucky knew he worried that he had killed her by ejecting her from that plane. Bucky also knew there was no sense in trying to tell him she would have died either way, that the ice would've killed her.
"You okay?" Bucky asked, after another few moments of silence.
Steve nodded, looking at the photo. "I'm glad she's remembered. I just wish I didn't have so many unanswered questions."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"So," Tony started. "Thor is arriving with the guest of honour later today, who we have agreed to protect here for the meantime. We don't have a lot of background for this one. The dark elves are the ones we're protecting her against, but Thor said threat could come from many areas. Do we have any questions?"
The team looked nothing short of bored. Well, most of them. Cap always had the good grace to sit up and look interested. Scott was straight up asleep.
"Is she important? How long will she be staying with us?" Steve asked.
"No idea, and uh, no idea. Anything else?"
"Is she single?" Sam asked, earning a laugh from some of the others. Steve shook his head disapprovingly, but smiled at his friend's levity.
As Steve stood up to go back to training, FRIDAY sounded around the room. "Excuse me everyone, my satellites have detected a bifrost signal heading for the compound imminently."
"Speak of the devil!" Tony clapped his hands as everyone headed out to the bifrost landing site (something that had been instituted after Tony's lawn got scorched one too many times).
Bucky smacked Scott upside the head to wake him up with a jolt. "Oh, where are you guys going?" He called behind them, jogging to catch up. Steve waited behind from him, laughing at his groggy friend.
A bright light connected with the grass just beside the landing site. Tony's hands covered his eyes as he mouthed are you fucking kidding me. When the light cleared, Thor stood tall in his usual armour.
"My friends!" His voice boomed, "I present to you, my fellow avengers, the honourable princess of Alfheim, jewel of the Alfar and ambassador to Asgard." Thor's voice boomed through the halls of the compound. "This is my friend, (y/n)."
Beside Thor stood a girl. She was breathtakingly beautiful, with a heavenly stature. She looked like she could have been carved from marble by the hands of God himself.
A light Asgardian pink dress was covered by a golden chest-plate which fit her body like it had been moulded just for her. It was covered in intricate etchings of suns and stars, which caught the light and shone brilliantly. She wore golden jewellery, which was nothing like the avengers had ever seen. Golden ear cuffs covered her pointed ears, with her long hair pulled into an up-do, emphasising the golden, bejewelled tiara on her head.
"Princess?" Sam squeaked. Wanda smacked him, with a look that screamed don't embarrass us.
Tony tilted his head in confusion at the guest, who he could almost swear he recognised from somewhere. "Thor, you did not inform us that we were looking after the ruler of a planet. We would have been more prepared."
"I am not ruler yet, Mr. Stark." The girl cast her eyes up at Tony, as she smiled sweetly. Her voice was honey smooth, and anyone who heard it felt themselves being charmed by it. "I have heard much about you all from Thor."
"Should we bow?" Bruce whispered to Tony, who shrugged his shoulders. Thankfully, (y/n) took the lead and shook each of their hands.
She looked around at each of the gathered avengers. Thor made his introductions to the rest of the group. "Where are the others?" Thor enquired.
"Here!" Steve smiled at the site of his old friend, his view of the princess obscured by the large man. Bucky and Scott tagged behind him, also happily greeting Thor.
"Captain, it is very good to see you. Please, let me introduce you to the Princess (y/n)." Thor stepped aside to introduce them, but his eyebrows knitted together in confusion when neither of them moved, almost frozen in place.
"Uh... hi." Scott side-stepped the Captain and caught the eye of their guest. "My name's Scott Lang."
The girl tore her eyes away from the captain, unsure really on what to do. But her training kicked in, knowing that being rude was one of the worst sins a princess could commit. "Hello, Mr. Lang. I am (y/n)."
"Holy shit." Bucky breathed out.
The rest of the avengers watched the rather silent exchange with confusion. It was very unlike Steve to get so tongue-tied, and he would never be so rude as to not introduce himself.
"Captain Rogers..." The girl spoke first, confusing them further. "I believed you dead." Tears had welled in her eyes, intriguing the observing crowd even more.
"I thought you were dead." He breathed. "What... what is going on?"
Bucky interjected. "Um, hi. I'm Bucky, we met briefly in '45."
She smiled softly at him, but her eyes betrayed her confusion. "Sergeant Barnes, of course! Didn't you... also die?"
"Yeah, we've all got a lot of explaining to do." Bucky laughed as the absurdity of the situation caught up to him.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thor's eyes darted between his friend and the captain. When Thor asked the avengers to guard her from the war on Alfheim, he knew some hijinks would ensue. This is not what he expected. He knew you had spent some time on Midgard before and when you returned you were emotionally distraught. He had simply figured the war you had fought with the Midgardians had taken it's toll.
He eyed both the Captain and you, suspiciously. You were his dear friend, but you had never talked to him about any mortal love.
"So, Princess. You've been here before." Tony enquired.
The Princess licked her lips nervously, glancing at Steve, who had barely moved a muscle, his eyebrows furrowed. "Yes, Mr. Stark. I spent some time here during the second world war. I left Midgard when Johann Schmidt was defeated, and haven't returned since."
"Tell us about your world, Princess. I've never heard of it before." Natasha, the red-head in the corner, asked the guest.
"You have heard of it before." The princess smiled, explaining. "I believe we are now known as a fantasy character here - you call us elves." She pointed to her pointed ears as each avenger clung to her words.
Thor smiled at his Midgardian friends' curiosity.
"The Alfar still live amongst you, they are simply unseen. I believe you may know Tolkien?" At the mention of the author's name, everyone's ears pricked. "He was one of my father's greatest friends and many of his book settings were inspired by Alfheim."
"What!" Scott exclaimed. "That's insane."
"Really, Ant Man?" Bucky responded, pointing out that they were all ridiculous, when you thought about it. The world was crazy now.
The princess chuckled, and rose from her seat at the conference table. "Thank you very much for your hospitality, Avengers. I would quite like to rest in my chambers, if you would be so gracious to allow me."
"Um, yeah... consider yourself allowed." Tony stumbled over his words. Very unusual for him, and it did not go unnoticed by the others. "Dinner is at seven."
"Thank you, Mr. Stark. Captain Rogers," She addressed the Captain, who looked up quickly. His face was pale, and he nervously twiddled his thumbs. "Would you be so kind as to show me my rooms?"
He popped up, almost comedically fast. "Yes. Yeah, sure. Um, this way." He walked out quickly, darting his eyes back to make sure the princess was following him.
She followed, gracefully. Her skirts fanned out behind her as she walked. The avengers in the room could scarcely take their eyes off her as she faded from sight.
As soon as the door closed behind them, the room devolved into chaos. People shouting theories and questions left, right and centre. Mostly, everyone was just bewildered. Bucky and Thor discussed how they had both known the couple separately, and whether each had talked about the other.
Natasha watched as Tony sat quietly on his tablet for a few seconds, searching for something she could only assume was relevant to the discussion at hand.
"Bucky, what's the deal there?" Clint asked.
He was interrupted by Tony. "Aha!" Stark called, silencing the room. "I knew I recognised her from somewhere."
He projected a photograph to the wall, and the avengers gasped.
The photograph consisted of Steve and Bucky front and centre. Bucky had his left arm wrapped lazily around Tony's dad, Howard. And Steve was looking directly at the girl next to him, holding her to him by the waist. It was the princess. The gaze he looked at her with... it was like nothing they had ever seen from him.
"They didn't just know each other, they were in love." Bucky replied to Clint's question, a hint of sadness underneath his words.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Y/n) followed Steve along the large corridors of the compound, her smaller legs working double time to match his long strides. They walked in silence, for the most part. It wasn't the comfortable kind.
"Captain." She spoke first, again. As she called for him, he stopped walking abruptly, turning slowly. He met her gaze and then cast his eye down.
"(y/n)... I mean, um, Princess." He responded.
"(y/n) is sufficient." She whispered, almost guiltily. "I can't believe you're alive..."
"I can't believe you're alive," He retorted. "I searched for you, when I woke up. They couldn't find any records of you other than your enlistment form, and they found you had lied. People think you're just a ghost story..."
He took a breath. "I can't believe you're here and... an alien princess?"
"I know it's hard to believe, I hope you understand why I couldn't tell you back then." She laughed. "When I found that you and Sergeant Barnes were dead, I couldn't face being here anymore... I returned to Alfheim."
As she thought back on it, a tear sprung to her eye. On seeing her reaction, Steve couldn't help himself but place a friendly hand on her back, rubbing soothing circles. She briefly froze at the contact, but quickly, she moved her own hand down his arm until she was holding onto his hand with both of hers.
So much went unsaid, but the contact confirmed what they had both most desperately wanted to know. Would it be the same?
"If I had known that you and Sergeant Barnes were alive, Captain..." She admitted. "I would have returned in an instant, I give you my word."
He smiled, rubbing a thumb over the back of her hand. A red blush hugged her cheeks as he did so.
It was typical of him that he couldn't concentrate on the moment, "Why are you here?" He asked. "What are we protecting you from?"
She sighed. "The Svartalfar, or the dark elves. You may know them - they attacked Thor in the Midgardian city of London some years ago now." He nodded in recognition.
"They are determined to conquer Alfheim, and have set their sights on my family. They have already managed to get close to killing me."
She pushed the collar of her dress down, showing a large, angry, red scar just above her collarbone. His hands flew up to trace the scar. She gulped at the close contact, her eyes meeting his.
His expression gave away his concern, knowing that Thor had suggested she was in a lot of danger. "Don't worry, Princess. You're safe here." He smiled, softly. "We'll protect you with everything we've got."
"Thank you, Captain."
"It's just Steve." He unhooked their hands, and gave her his arm. She linked her arm in his, and he resumed wandering down the halls to her rooms. "Do you have any bags?"
"No, I fled to Asgard with nothing when I needed healing. The Asgardians were kind enough to offer many gorgeous clothes for me to bring, but I figured they were a bit conspicuous."
Steve laughed, "Yeah, they might be."
They walked for a little while longer, before Steve entered a room to the side. It was rather basic compared to what she was used to, but it would more than suffice for the meantime.
"This is your room." He stood by the door as she entered. "I'm just down the hall if you need anything. I'll get Tony to send you some less conspicuous clothes. See you at dinner."
"Thank you, Steven." He laughed at her inability to be too informal with him. He nodded at her, and turned to walk down the hall to his room.
As he entered, the photograph of her from the Smithsonian caught his eye from the nightstand. He picked it up, tracing her features with his finger - unable to stop the smile spreading across his face. Who would've thought? Not only was his girl alive, she was also alien royalty. Sometimes, just sometimes, he adored his strange, strange world.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Sir," The agent walked into the dark room with purpose in her every step. "The Princess has been spotted."
The man in the chair looked up at the mention of his target. "Show me" he ordered. He watched as agent transferred the images on her tablet to the big screen, showing grainy, far away surveillance of the avengers compound.
As low quality as the image was, the woman arriving with Thor in the distinctive Alfar dress and armour was certainly the princess.
"Oh, my dear..." The man's deep voice dragged out. "You have walked right into our sights."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Surrounded by Assassins
Steve, being righteous or smth: If you kill a killer, the total number of killers remain the same.
Bucky, mouth full of cereal: Kill 2.
Clint, coming out of the vents: Not if you were already a killer.
Natasha, bored: Then just kill yourself.
Bonus:
Steve, face palms: oh my god! That’s not the point.
Tony, nonchalant: What did you expect? You’re surrounded by assassins.

___________________________________
‘Liar’ he thought.
Still…he couldn’t stop the hopeful tug at his heart. It made him want to pull back, escape the crushing weight of Tony’s arms and look him in the eye and hear that lie again. He wanted to hear Tony Stark tell him he missed him and was so worried he hardly ate or slept anymore and – above all else – Desmond wanted to believe that Tony had been worried over him. He wanted to believe that Tony Stark wasn’t the monster he remembered.   He prepared himself for Tony to prove he was.

A late entry (apologies) in @honeyhan-123‘s  #honeyhan’s holiday spirit challenge
When your friend got you into one of Tony Stark’s infamous parties, you would never have guessed in a million years that he’d be interested in you as his girl of the night. When you decide to cut the night short because you weren’t exactly the type to do hook-ups, you realize too late that you made a mistake…
~~~
“How are you, ladies?”
Chelsea elbowed you, bringing your attention to the fact that Tony Stark, the Tony Stark, had just slid onto the barstool next to yours.
“We’re doing great now,” Chelsea chimed in while you just stared. What? She’d just told you she was ready to leave.
Tony was an exceptionally handsome man. His hazel eyes were warm, a witch’s brew of colors that blended into pure sin. His grin was working on your insides. Yeah, it might also have something to do with the three drinks you’d had already, but you were captivated. You watched him scrub a hand through dark hair threaded with silver, saw his tongue dart out across his lower lip.
“What’s your name?” his gaze was on you, his hand out.
Hell, you were lucky to be here at all. Chelsea worked as a receptionist for Stark Industries. She was the reason you were able to get into this party at all. You never expected to meet the host himself.
Genius. Playboy. Billionaire. Philanthropist.
Tony Stark was all those things.
You shook his hand, told him your name. He wasn’t subtle about the way his gaze took in your face, then slowly moved over the rest of you. His grin widened when his gaze returned to yours.
Okay, then.
“I’m Chelsea,” your friend tried to get his attention. “I work for you.”
Tony’s gaze flicked to her and he nodded. “Thank you. I appreciate it.”
From what Chelsea told you, Tony’s Iron Man had largely retired from the bulk of the Avenger’s missions, only joining them on ones where his expertise was essential or when it was something that interested him. You’d heard he’d moved back into the Avenger’s compound when Pepper Potts had broken things off with him a few months earlier.
As everyone expected, Tony had gone back to his old ways, frequent appearances in the tabloids and a different girl each night.
With his attention back on you and it was nearly 2 AM, you were wondering if you were being considered for tonight’s girl…
“Chelsea?” Tony’s gaze never left you. “Can I steal your friend here?”
“Sure, Tony,” Chelsea was all smiles. “Which one of us is she going home with? I brought her.”
Tony’s brows shot up at the forward question while you felt your face heat up. Winking at her, he just said. “Me. Be careful going home, Sweetie.”
“You got it,” Chelsea said. Leaning in, she gave you a hug and whispered, “I expect to hear this story.”
You could just stare at your friend as she slung her purse over her shoulder and left you there with Tony Stark.
