Some Apollo stans are really getting on my nerves acting like the Daphne myth is is the only story where their little meow meow assaulted someone and blaming Eros for it when the way Eros’s powers work is way more nuanced than that and Eros is involved in literally every couple falling in love,so blaming him for Apollo’s own horrible actions is bs. Apollo is responsible for how he reacts to Eros’s influence.

George Barbier, Les Amours pastorales de Daphnis et Chloé, 1918.
The subject of Daphnis and Chloe is distinguished from other Greek novels by its bucolic setting and the constant irony which governs the course of the action.
It is above all their sentimental education which is described throughout the adventures of the novel. The two protagonists live in the countryside, near the city of Mytilene on the islandof Lesbos. Daphnis is a young goatherd, a child found by shepherds (in a laurel grove, hence his name which comes from the ancient Greek δάφνη (daphnè), laurel). Chloé, for her part, is a shepherdess, also a foundling. They grow up in a pastoral setting and fall in love with each other, but multiple twists and turns prevent them from satisfying their love. However, the outcome is a comedy: the two children are recognized by their respective parents, who are rich people from Mytilene, lifelong friends, and who are going to marry them. Headcanon: Musicarts can fluently speak the language their score was composed in, so Berlin Symphonica has a creole language of sorts spoken exclusively by Musicarts!

Excerpt from Daphnis and Chloe by Longus, Ancient Greek Novel
"And that was the beginning of love. She didn't know what was happening to her: she was a young girl brought up in the county and hadn't even heard anyone speak of love. Her heart ached; her eyes wandered uncontrollably; she kept repeating "Daphnis." She took no interest in food. She lay awake at night. She disregarded her flock. Now she laughed; now she cried. One moment she sat down; the next she jumped up. Her face went pale and, then, in turn, blushed red. Even a cow stung by a gadfly does not behave so madly. When she was on her own, she said to herself:
"Now I feel I'll, but I don't know what my illness is. I feel pain, although I've not been injured. I feel sad, although I've lost none of my sheep. I feel hot, though I'm sitting in deep shade. How many times I've been scratched by brambles, and I've not wept! How many times I've been stung by bees and not cried out! But the thing that stings my heart is sharper than all those things. Daphnis is beautiful -- but then so are the flowers. His pipes make a beautiful sound -- but then so do the nightingales. And yet I care nothing for those things. I wish I were his pipes so he could breathe into me. I wish I were his goat, so I could be led to graze by him. You wicked stream! You only made Daphnis beautiful; I bathed in you and nothing happened. I'm dying, dear nymphs, and even you are doing nothing to save the girl who has grown up at your side. Who will put the garlands on you when I'm gone? Who will bring up the poor lambs? Who will look after the chattering grasshopper I took such trouble to catch so it could put me to sleep by singing in front of the cave? But now, I cannot sleep because of Daphnis, and the chattering of the grasshopper does me no good."
