dragon 9:12 - feynrahel of clan isethari is born to his mother danyla isethari (30) and father ilen lavellan (28), as well as older brothers haretharin (3), mahanon (1) to the small clan isethari in the brecilian forest

dragon 9:28 -(feyn 16) feyn receives his vallaslin and becomes an adult hunter in his clan. a few months later he is wounded in a hunting accident saving his younger brother, sarel (14), from a wild boar

dragon 9:30 - (feyn 18) clan isethari is contacted by zarathian's clan and asked to join them in denerim against the oncoming blight. they agree and split the clan: all able warriors go to denerim to fight against the blight while children, elders, and a small group of warriors plan to travel to their sister clan lavellan across the waking sea. danyla, haretharin, mahanon, and feyn all go to join the fight against the darkspawn.

dragon 9:31 - (feyn 19) feyn fights alongside his eldest brother haretharin (22), who is gruesomely slain by darkspawn in front of feyn during the final battle. the survivors of the final battle split up, some clan members choosing to stay and help chase down remaining darkspawn while others wish to rejoin the rest of the clan across the waking sea. for feyn, this was an awakening--there were things in this world that were bigger than himself or his family, things that threatened them all. saying goodbye to his mother danyla (48) and brother mahanon (20), feyn followed a small group of people interested in helping the grey wardens begin anew in amaranthine. there, feyn enlists as a grey warden recruit, undergoing training before the joining. most of his training takes place during the events of awakening, with feyn being one of the first recruits put through the joining after the siege on vigil's keep. in the first deep roads outing that he leads, feyn runs into an exploratory expedition looking for a lost thaig.

dragon 9:33 - (feyn 21) feyn transfers from the ferelden grey wardens to a sect in the free marches, near kirkwall.

dragon 9:34 - (feyn 22) while exploring the deep roads near kirkwall, the qunari invasion in kirkwall begins. feyn and a group of the others break into the city in order to try and help citizens escape.

dragon 9:37 - (feyn 25) anders destroys the kirkwall chantry. again, the grey wardens happen to be nearby at the time, with feyn specifically leading a group under his care. they rescue as many as they can, sheltering them with the wardens.

dragon 9:38 - (feyn 26) feyn transfers back to the ferelden grey wardens, taking up a position as a senior warden at vigil's keep.

dragon 9:40 - (feyn 28) leliana and cassandra visit vigil's keep in search for the hero of fereldan, who has been gone for some time. feyn, while not commander, is one of the few remaining that knew the warden at the time. he gives them as much information as he can, and eventually is convinced to work as one of leliana's spies, taking advantage of the order's laxer restrictions in the south.

dragon 9:41 - (feyn 29) feyn spends his time in the inquisition out in the field as leliana's--and therefore, the inquisitor's--eyes, ears, and hands. he delivers letters, leaves supplies at drops, and generally just travels across thedas helping do the grunt work. his status as a warden is generally only used when convenient, usually defaulting to simply being dalish or an agent of the inquisition.

dragon 9:42 - (feyn 30) the end of inquisition and the defeat of corypheus. feyn stays on as an agent of the inquisition.

dragon 9:43 - (feyn 31) clan isethari, which had begun journeying back south to their traditional grounds in the brecilian forest, stray too close to a human settlement. the town, unnerved and unsettled by the region's rift troubles and on the back of rumors of elven artifact involvement, attack clan isethari. while a majority of the clan is able to get away, mahanon dies of illness from his wounds a week later.

dragon 9:44 - (feyn 32) the events of trespasser. feyn agrees to be a part of the new, smaller, secretive inquisition in the wake of being infiltrated by fen'harel's and qunari spies. his assignment is to infiltrate fen'harel's agents, pass along intel, sabotage efforts, or in a worst case, last-ditch effort, attempt to kill solas. the mission is given to him personally by leliana. later that year, feyn arranges to get himself captured by slavers and sold in tevinter to work in a shipyard and storage warehouse near where fen'harel agents were last seen active.

dragon 9:46 - (feyn 34) after two years, feyn finally runs into a fen'harel agent looking for a package within the warehouse. after assisting them in stealing it, the agent frees feyn and recruits him to the cause. he does odd jobs for the agents, slowly earning trust.

dragon 9:47 - (feyn 35) feyn begins taking on slightly bigger jobs tracking down rare components for various rituals and jobs. one such job takes him to nevarra, where the item needed was in a sealed tomb. upon breaking the seal, feyn becomes plagued by a spirit, causing him to feel weak and feverish. when the haunting is eventually discovered, he receives a tattoo that channels the spirit's energy into magic.

dragon 9:48 - (feyn 36) feyn's identity as a double agent is nearly discovered while on a mission chasing down a lead for the red lyrium idol. on a mission with two others, one of the other agents begins to suspect feyn's loyalties may not be solely to fen'harel. when that agent dies, the remaining agent doubles down, claiming that feyn arranged for their death. unsure if the claim will be believed, feyn kills the remaining agent and returns to fen'harel's camp. while no one suspects or blames him for the loss of the other agents, he is put on lighter tasking for a time.

dragon 9:49 - (feyn 37) feyn tracks the red lyrium idol to the action house in llomerryn. part of his ability to find the lyrium idol is by tapping into his warden ability to sense darkspawn by focusing on the call of the blight within the lyrium. when asked, however, he just says he has a lucky streak and a good gut for guessing

Danyla "Danny" Lavellan has been an orphan since she was a toddler. Being raised by her not-uncle The Iron Bull and his often rowdy team of misfits, she has grown a love for adventure and thirst for thrill.

If only she could actually do that.

Bull is still clinging to a promise he made to her mother, but as she's nearing the age of 19, Danny is growing rebellious. The only world she knows outside the woods (even thats restricted!) is the occasional visits of Knight Cullen Rutherford. Unfortunately he can only tell her so much before a certain protective guardian is shooing him away.

When Bull finally gives in, though, he anxiously sends her to give a package to the city's official Cassandra Pentaghast, the temporary fill-in for the recently deceased viscount.

Of course, it does not go to plan. Danny meets people that would send her uncle into a frenzy if he found out.

The fact only makes her all the more rebellious.

Conscripted the Templars, Leashed: Danyla's motives for speaking with the templars were not, in fact, to gather them to seal the breach. She wanted the templar leader dead- a mission that she failed to complete at the conclave. In truth, she would have much preferred the mages help with the breach, but here we are.

Alistair Left in the Fade: Mostly she just liked Hawke better. Also she is kind of peeved with the wardens. (don't ask me what Perrin thinks about this I don't want to be mean)

Exiled the Wardens: This was a decision based completely off of emotion. ("What do you MEAN the Wardens are the reason I'm in this mess?") And it was at this point where she realized she could pretty much do whatever the hell she wanted and became 10x worse than she already was

Briala Rules Under Gaspard: "You mean to tell me I can put an elf on the throne?" (yeah this one was a no brainer to her)

Inquisitor Drinks From the Well of Sorrows: Listen. Danyla doesn't like Morrigan. Danyla especially doesn't like that Morrigan is apparently "the only one qualified to do this". This is Danyla's heritage, it is her right. She will be drinking from that well, no matter the cost (I mean damn she's got Mythal's valasslin and everything)

Danyla Lavellan - The Inquisitor necromancer

major choices bunch of facts & headcanons under the cut!

Early Life

The Lavellan clan in my canon has no interest in humans, and they are incredibly blood thirsty

They travel from forest to forest, staying in the deepest parts, far away from civilization

Being raised in this environment, Dany is not the easiest to get along with

Her magic manifested at age 10, when she tangled another in thorns because they were teasing animals

She is an only child, and was doted on by both of her parents

Almost to the point where she felt smothered

SO getting to study under the keeper was something she cherished and took very seriously

In fact, she takes most things seriously. If you can make her laugh, you deserve an award

In studying under the keeper, she obviously learned a lot about Dalish history, but she also became an expert in lost magic- specifically shapeshifting

She's used this ability to scout or to scare off anyone who comes too close to camp

Her relationship with her parents remains strained- they still try to treat her like a kid, and she resents them for it. She considers the keeper to be her parental figure

Shortly before the conclave explosion, a couple of Clan Lavellan's young mages had wandered out of the woods, curious about the outside world

A group of templars found them and...well, it didn't go well for the mages

The clan found the young mages, and, being the way they are...decided on revenge.

In Game

They find out a bunch of templars- and the templar leader!- will all be in one place. The conclave.

Dany volunteers for the trip. She's furious & wants to keep the clan protected at all costs

So of course things go badly because why wouldn't they

Dany denounces being the herald any chance she gets

She wants absolutely no part of any of this, and pushes back a LOT. She just wants to go home

In fact, if it weren't for Cass pushing and insisting on recruiting, the Inquisition would be empty and would probably fail lmao

Eventually, Dany realizes she has power. Lots of it.

And she kind of goes on a tyrannical warpath. If you're with her, great, if not...well, I'll pray for you

And everyone is kind of like "what tf did we just do"

Romance

Dany took a lot of comfort in the one other elven mage of the inquisition

She just...really loved being around Solas. She could listen to him talk for days

She just loves learning ok!!! She's super open minded to his theories and ideas, and is incredibly interested in the fade

The only thing she doesn't take kindly to...is the slave marking thing because she is really proud of her heritage. No way they're wrong.

She takes the breakup badly.

She actually becomes softer, she thinks maybe it was because she was too difficult to work with

Aaaand then he leaves for good and she gets worse than she was before she met him. She lost her anchor, lost the one person she trusted and cared about.

So she kinda doesn't care about going off the rails

Post Game

Dany stays with the Inquisition since her clan is gone, and turns it into a powerhouse. It's something people have grown to fear, which leads into "is the inquisition actually useful now?"

She also works closely with Briala to make Gaspard's life hell

And maybe there's a lil fling there but it's very brief and hush hush

(no, she never got over Solas thanks for asking)

After Trespasser she is completely mind fucked. She disbands the inquisition and becomes sort of a recluse in order to reflect on everything

I say sort of because she does try to find Solas. She will help him destroy the world if it will restore elven glory- even if it will cost her her own life

She keeps in contact with Briala (who has become a dear friend), and Leliana

There are very few sightings of Danyla post Trespasser. She uses shapeshifting most of the time to keep a low profile

thoughts i'm thinking about re: clan lavellan, danyla, and neria (this got long so have a cut)

so the lavellan clan is bloodthirsty, they're super anti-human, they believe in restoring what the elves were. they know the history of the evanuris, but where the beliefs diverge is that the clan thinks their gods did all of these terrible things to others- certainly not the elves. hence, their hatred for anyone who isn't an elf.

and both danyla & neria unlearn what their clan taught, but differently and to different extents.

danyla, away from her clan, is fairly isolated. she works with the inquisition (unwillingly) but keeps to herself, or spends time with solas, not really opening up to anyone else. she's still very distrusting, and even when the inquisition is disbanded, she spends years alone searching for solas with the help of leliana and leliana alone.

neria, away from her clan, finds herself missing the company of others. she wants to be part of something larger, so she joins the veil jumpers. she's leery about them at first because they accept anyone- not just elves. and she's standoffish and slow to trust...until she becomes tainted by darkspawn and a human warden offers to save her.

and it's with the wardens that she realizes "okay, not everyone is bad, not everyone is out to get me"

and the difference, I think, is how they left the clan. they were both forced, but dany was ripped away into this andrastian role she wanted nothing to do with. neria was forced to leave because everyone else was dead or missing.

and the other difference is that dany felt alone and isolated from the get-go, she was the only dalish elf even among the other elves in her inner circle. one was a city elf who hated "elfy" things, the other looked down on her heritage. she was constantly talked down to by the chantry, by the orlesians...she saw the hatred others had for her people.

neria, on the other hand, immediately found others who respected elven history, who reveled in it, who wanted to know more. she was well liked, and was asked to share stories, beliefs, knowledge. she was encouraged to embrace who she was, and what she believed. even in the wardens- sure, she met some resentment there- but for the most part, people were good to her.
