As a Riddler fan I agree with alot of the criticisms about Dano!Riddler, but also as a Paul Dano fan and someone who heavily obsessed over Dano!Riddler. I do love the guy!

Like I think he was pretty great and his comic was heartbreaking, I also agree that the fandom often boil him down to just an incel version of Riddler. He is a great perspective on E. Nygma, he was a broken man who festered a deep hatred for others and the injustice he had experienced as a kid up to an adult.

He grew up having his own work taken from him, others who were much more savvy and popular taking credit for it, he saw the vermin of the world and wanted to "change" it with his flawed ideals and thoughts.

His main goal wasn't to actually try to save Gotham, I think alot of people call him stupid or misinterpret his actions and the flooding of Gotham too much. He was blinded by his pursuit of justice and thought what was necessary was to cleanse the place as a whole.
