Other question: How would Princess Tutu look like, if it were featured Lovecraftian horror elements in it's story? (Like Digimon Tamers....)

I vaguely know or understand Lovecraftian literature (I feel like Digimon Tamers is a mixed bag of whoever created Akira or NGEvangelion instead of Lovecraft? tho), but my brief research is giving me tropes of “Fear of the Unknown”.

I would say Princess Tutu will look more like the Prologues that are shown at the beginning of every episode. Like You honestly don’t know what angle they are going for, and even if it is a story you have heard before, have you truly heard it before?

Funny you would choose Lovecraftian horror, bc it makes me wonder what other kinds of horror the directors drew influences from for Ptutu? (In the interview from Dankfest a while back, they said they specifically wanted to add horror elements in the story, despite it being a kids show.)

But don’t you think the Raven is like a Lovecraftian monster? Like we only saw parts of him and only until season 2. Even right before the finale, the only thing we can really see is his glowing face and can barely see its whole body, let alone it’s wing. And we didn’t even know where it was! He can change people/other animals into other crows with his blood THAT HE SOMEHOW SHED FROM WHO KNOWS WHERE??? And makes them take on similar vile characteristics as him? Like how did he even get that big and have those powers?

But another thing especially is Drosselmeyer. He is such a wild card that can stop time and pop in out of no where. Like, who is Drosselmeyer really? We know he is a Spinner, but how did he get so powerful? How did he even get the power? Was it born? He did a ritual but was that taught to him too? How did anybody let him get away with anything? Like the prologues briefly tell us, but it’s only the barest amount.

If Ptutu was more focused on the same tone as the prologue, then it might have been more similar to Lovecraftian horror elements.
