I’ve been wanting to talk about this @capitolfilemag issue since May! For this October Innovators and Influencers issue, I was tasked with coming up with the cover and cover subject and producing the shoot and writing the feature from scratch. I spent a lot of time reading about futurism, which I find fascinating, and diving deeper into AI, machine learning, nano-tech, robotics and all that awesomely geek tastic technology. But I also remembered meeting Jeffrey Wright @jfreewright almost 8 years ago at an event in Washington where him and singer Maxwell were raising money for a project they were working on in Sierra Leone (tnx Aba!). I was a fan of his work in #Basquiat and #anglesinamerica. I recalled how sharp and interesting he was. He grew up in DC, and besides being an incredible actor, he’s also socially and politically active and outspoken. Perfect for Washington! And #Westworld? Love it. I was excited when he agreed to be a part of the issue. I hope you enjoy my article. Even better, I got to reconnect with photographer @douglassonders and producer Nicholas Cambata of @8112studios to create the cover and feature. We crafted some fun work together back in the day with #WLTV, right guys!? Now these two are doing incredible work now in AR/VR. I’m super excited for them. And just very grateful to partner with Doug. He put a great team together in Los Angeles and knock this out with not a lot of prep time. I’m a big fan of his work. It’s so awesome to see all this come together almost five months later. I also enjoyed choosing six of Washington’s leading men of innovation and influence, @johnrobertsfox , @eventsandrewells @mdornic #JoshuaJohnson @the1ashow, #JasonLevien @dcunited and #TomDavidson @everfi as well as interviewing six women founders about some of their most challenging start up moments. Thanks @maci_peterson, @jnewtonsmall @djneekola, #CarlyZakin and #DanielleWeisberg @theskimm and #SusanTynan @framebridge ! Plus, @jadefloyddc Floyd helped me on my #riseoftheRest piece and I (almost) beat @zacharyleonsis in a game of #NBA2K while I researching @wizardsdg and the growth of #esports in Washington. So, yep!
