2023 recap
tagged by @grusinskayas, thanks so much mari! <3 I'll tag @nitrateglow @oftwodarkmoons @valancystirling48 @lilbabylovergirl @jwclapton @nataliawoods @olivethomas @ritahayworrth @emmybrown @gayworths @astonishinglysane @womansfilm @davisbette @daniellesdarrieux only if you want to of course! and anyone else who wants to do this please do! (and tag me!) Only including things that were new to me this year in each category or the lists would be far too long!
top films: I just did the 9 favorite first watches post which were, -The Dream Lady (1918) -Danger Love at Work (1937) -The Cowboy and the Lady (1938) - Pillow to Post (1945) - Home Sweet Homicide (1946) -Turn the Key Softly (1953) - Minari (2020) -Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris (2022) -Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022)
and I will add some more on to that as well! -Husband Hunters (1927) -Sunny (1930) -Honeymoon Limited (1935) -East Side of Heaven (1939) -Spring Parade (1940) -The Face Behind the Mask (1941) -Marriage is a Private Affair (1944) -This Happy Breed (1944) -Guest Wife (1945) -Molly and Me (1945) -The Wicked Lady (1945) -An Ideal Husband (1947) -Deep Valley (1947) -Night Tide (1961) -The Glass Bottom Boat (1966) -The Grass Harp (1995) -Luca (2021)
top tv series: I have such a hard time remembering what tv shows I watch throughout the year as I don't keep track of them the way I do movies but this is encouraging me to start making lists from now on.
From what I can remember - -All Creatures Great and Small -Sanditon -The Great Canadian Baking Show -The Tenant of Wildfell Hall -Only Murders in the Building -It's a Living -Call The Midwife top books: Did not read much this year and hardly anything new but here are a few I liked!
-The Surgeon's Daughter, Audrey Blake -The Leavenworth Case, Anna Katharine Green -The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, Anne Brontë -The Secret Book of Flora Lea, Patti Callahan Henry
favorite song: This is going to be a long section!
Firstly my pride and joy, the playlist of expressing love of nature through music (mostly folk music but some others mixed in) that I worked so hard on at the beginning of the year. A lot of it is not new to me songs but some of it is and mostly making a playlist is new to me. Flower, Flower Oh My Love Playlist. Now for some individual songs I discovered and loved throughout the year~ (choosing max of one song per artist that is also not included in my playlist or this will get way too long)
-Alvvays - Pecking Order -Aurora - Your Blood -Blackbriar - Fairy of the Bog -Cécile Corbel - Come Back Home -chirinuruwowaka - bakenokawa -Coco - Fantasy -hemlocke springs - sever the blight  -Laufey - Bewitched -MARINA - Man's World -Maxine Sullivan - Skylark -Mylène Farmer - Sans contrefaçon -Paramore - This Is Why -Pomme - La rivière -Ruby Throat- In the Arms of Flowers -yanaginagi - More Than Enough -Yutori - One Room
favorite quote: - "listen, this would be a better world if there was more singing and less dictating." - East Side of Heaven, 1939
-"When all inside you burns like a star It's after you burn out that you are Reborn again, reborn again
And maybe if you called out for help Then I could help you outrun yourself Come run again, we'll run again" - Your Blood, Aurora

i was tagged by the one and only @irregularcollapse - thank you my friend!
LAST SONG? my body's my buddy by tessa violet. it's singlehandedly curing a lifetime of self-image issues at this time.
FAVOURITE COLOR? dark mossy green! although a good, happy mustard is becoming more and more comforting.
CURRENTLY WATCHING? the x files - don't know how it took me so long to watch something that has so many of my favorite things: cryptids, crime drama, and gillian anderson.
LAST MOVIE? a big hand for the little lady (1966) aka one of the cutest, most wholesome westerns ever made. this movie has everything: henry fonda, joanne woodward, precocious children, comedy, leitmotifs, and poker.
SWEET/SPICY/SAVORY? sweet allllllll the way, but i'm into spicy more often than usual right now.
RELATIONSHIP STATUS? single and beyond happy to keep it that way!
CURRENT OBSESSIONS? prepping to decorate a new house, walden by thoreau, and the aforementioned x files.
LAST THING YOU GOOGLED? lyrics to optimistic by skeeter davis. i was having a morning, what can i say.

27 and 30!
27. what is a piece of advice you have for young / baby gays?
This is a perfect question for me because I want to help adolescents and adults confused with their sexuality and/or need help with the dynamics of their LGBTQ+ relationships. I would say one piece of advice is to know that it is perfectly okay to feel attracted to the same sex and never apologize for that. I want to add that even when you know for sure what you like, sexuality is a spectrum and often fluid. So, I would not panic if you experience something that alters your understanding of your sexuality; try to embrace it and don’t be ashamed if you change your label (if you like labels) and don’t get frustrated if/when people invalidate or not believe your sexuality. Live by your truth and everything will work out :)
30. what is a piece of advice for people who may not be in a safe place to express their sexuality?
Another excellent question :) I feel for those that aren’t in a safe place to express their sexuality, whether that may mean not being able to talk as well as act on their attractions. My advice would be to go online and talk to others about it, especially ones with similar experiences as you. I think this really helps relieve tension and the feeling that you’re all alone. There will be a time and place when you can be open about yourself and I know it is hard to be patient, but you can find other resources to help ease the pain. Watching LGBTQ+ youtube couples or advice videos, finding one friend whom you can trust and confide in, or joining an LGBTQ+ friendly club are some ways to do this. And if any of you guys on here don’t know who they can turn to, dm me and I will gladly respond.
Thank you very much 😊😊

1,5,12,17, and 22
1. How many books did you read this year? Around 25, I think.
5. What genre did you read the most of? I did a pretty even split between fiction and non-fiction. Read some biographies/political books, read some novels.
12. Any books that disappointed you? None, specifically. Some of the biographies were written in a very academic style that became tedious to read and distracted from the content. The content was interesting, but I felt like I was plodding through it.
17. Did any books surprise you with how good they were? Circe by Madeline Miller. That was SUCH a fun read and great take on the mythology of that character.
22. What's the longest book you read? IT by Stephen King, and a few chapters of that book could occupy a space under question 12 (or some other question about books that were good but large chunks were clearly written while the author was on a coke bender).
Thanks! ♥️

Thanks!
What’s something you hate about classic films?
I cant stand most biopics from that era , theyre always so long and boring. I cant count on one hand how many of them I’ve actually enjoyed.
What’s something you love about classic films?
So many things! I love how some many of them are unafraid to be “corny” or “cheesy” in case they aren’t taken seriously. In hand, with that, I love how classic filmmakers weren’t afraid to use color (when they had the chance) in beautiful and interesting ways and this is definitely something you don’t see as often in modern films. There’s more things ofc but I’m not gonna go on forever.

Sunset boulevard
do you like change?
Yeah. Nothing is permanent anyway, so I don’t get angry over change. Even if it’s a “bad change” that doesnt mean it’ll last and it can always change to be something good eventually.
what is your favorite decade for film?
Top three would have to be 40s, 60s, 90s
what luxuries would you like to have in your house?
My perfect house would have bay windows, stained glass windows, a yard to have a garden in (doesn’t have to be big) and a wrap around porch. A pool, maybe.
To have inside the house, maybe a theater.
are you more easy-going or dramatic?
Both? Like I can keep calm during tense situations and can be easy-going most of the time….but once I cried because my hair straightener stopped working so yeah.. 70% easy going // 30% dramatic
