I like to set up a polarity of familiarity and unfamiliarity as a way to engage the viewer and allow for a gateway to question what is considered pedestrian and what is considered high art. Ultimately I strive to create a formal language with my work that references my experiences of personal transformation that happened through having belief in the unfamiliar and openness to strange new possibilities.  * Cecelia Webber http://ceceliawebber.com/ Why are we made to feel so ashamed of the human body in Western culture and so much of the rest of the world? Isn’t the body a beautiful, wonderful thing, deserving nothing less than to be celebrated? As her thoughts continued to evolve, Cecelia alighted upon a petal in her mind, a new-found platform from which she could quietly challenge the status quo: she created a digital image of a flower constructed entirely from photographs of the naked human body. Thus commenced her journey as a professional artist, as she continued to grow her Petal series, develop her impressionist and modernist paintings, dance vivaciously in her own fan-made music videos and experimental films, and even eke out a quirky, existentialist webcomic, while of course still setting aside the majority of each day to chase orange salamanders and other fairy creatures. **************************​********************** The Vellum @ Red Square Boutique 1628 Palm Ave San Mateo, CA -- Saturday, July 16th, 2011 6pm-10pm

Learning To Fly… Soul Flight

This series is a collection of self portraits inspired by the artists internal and external journey. Danielle has been painting portraits of others since her career started, and now challenges herself to face the audience and paint herself. She uses flight as a metaphor for soul exploration, breaking patterns and committing to self love, space and awareness.  Taking inspiration from Pink Floyd and their lyrics from the song “ Learning To Fly,” Danielle guides us through her personal challenges by painting literally from the lyrics created, verse by verse. The fear and excitement of flying translates into the impermanence of sensations- both good and bad within our soul journey: “ soul flight”. Staying true to the moment, the artists intention is to inspire awareness by working on the darkness that guides her towards light. No self judgement, just possibilty and a “state of bliss…”

Everything that has been carefully avoided. To see it for what it really is, just another choice less phenomenon arising and appearing on the screen of awareness.
