dangerous romance: main couple mania ep. 1
so i love how sailom's instroduction is this is a budgeting king, in debt eating stolen rice porridge. he has a very pre-kinn broke ass porsche-chay dynamic with his brother (?) which is very sweet and also means it won't last five minutes.
oh okay so we get this ship sailing with a wall slam and a classic "do you understand my father funds your scholarship you poor piece of trash" and alksdflkfj
i know i am supposed to see sailom as the victim but he is like full on pete-ing this. he never breaks eye contact. he is like daring kanghan to escalate with his entire body and kanghan did not just go full "since you're my class mate i will be generous and forgive you if you get down on your knees" like that is a) spicy as fuck what the hell and b) going to backfire so hard
HE DID NOT JUST BOW 90 DEGREES JUST TO SPIT ON KANGHAN'S SHOES AND WALK AWAY WITH A SMIRK
he is puzzled by both sailom's actions and by what is happening inside his uniform shorts
honestly, kanghan is the villain here but i struggle to take him seriously as the bad guy because perth a) always looks like he is about five seconds away from bursting into tears and b) has bangs that form a literal heart. no matter how nasty kanghan tries to be - and he tries a lot - the inherent bitch baby-ness just shines through.
literal heart bangs what did i say
this entire car shop sequence is just pure gold for so many reasons. 1. kanghan shows up in his business leather pants looking like he walked off the set of enhypen's blessed-cursed music video and he's driving a mercedes. like honestly, with all that talk i was expecting a lamborghini. 2. sailom's boss actually like... needing some evidence instead of just bending over backwards to please a rich client 3. sailom fucking uno reversing that credit card sneak and humiliating kanghan with the smuggest lil good boy smile and THAT is why chimon is the ultimate snake-cat like he has a face made for scheming.
i am really loving sailom because he keeps his head, is really resourceful and will not take any shit. boy does not hesitate to drag this bastard for filth every chance he gets, beating kanghan in his own game without ever stepping down from the high road.
ooh, we are meeting kanghan's family and they are... both not as trash but also as trash as i expected? like i kinda thought more mafia vibes but if laws of attraction - and real life - has taught me anything it is that politicians are garbage.
on the surface his dad seems almost a jolly good fellow but the conversation with this random girl just confirmed there is something so much darker lurking under the surface. as much as it hurts to have a hyper critical parent, having one who has seemingly completely given up on you can be just as bad.
he's basically been called stupid twice in under five minutes. someone save him.
sailom will not be fooled by a shady ass phone call and neither will he leave a friend behind. this boy will not be distracted by tits with a side of toast. he is a man on a mission.
the way i gasped when i saw this court set up and i have so many questions. do the students just have a cardboard gotham in the basement or - based by the fact we see loose boxes and a shopping cart - did kanghan build this just to prove how big his dick is to sailom ???
chimon's acting is honestly a+ and he is carrying this show. the tension! the absolute rage that is bleeding through! the way he doesn't have to go big with gestures and expressions to convey everything sailom is feeling perfectly - and not just that. you know what sailom is feeling AND you can see his brain working.
kanghan, sweetie, you might want to take a moment and reflect on your obsession with getting this boy out of his clothes and making him kneel.
not gonna lie, i kinda saw this move coming because tropes but god was it satisfying :D the reactions of kanghan and sailom's friends are hilarious (10/10 i am evil tea, he totally ships it) and then the camera pans and you can see all these bystanders just standing stock still, filming giving major horror movie vibes and aaaaaaah
side notes:
i love how his best friend is just "auto." like his parents were "we are poor, naming the kid a vehicle will be fine. no need to bring brands into it."
auto's mom is an actual queen
the teachers are so fucking infuriating but also, that is kind of a sad truth? even when it's not like RICH rich people involved. like for too many adults, it is easier to it off as kids being kids and boys being boys over having to deal with the why and the parents and the drama of it all.
i was bullied in school so like this bubble tea waterboarding makes me feel some type of way? like some of the bullying is very oof-spicy-trope but a lot of it is actually cruel and i really wouldn't recommend this show to anyone who gets triggered by stuff like school violence.
#dangerous romance#dangerous romance ep 1#kanghan x sailom#episode recap reaction whatever#this show is gonna become a guilty pleasure i can tell#can't wait to witness kanghan's journey into being pathetic

Z WHOLEHEARTEDLY recommends...
As I mentioned in Episode #21 of our Dangerous Romance podcast I love this song so much. The melody is so pretty and catching in a way that is both uplifting but also strangely melancholic.
When listening to it, for me it invokes images of dappled sunshine and a warm summer breeze, it has such a vibe that I feel like I'm not doing it justice.
Positioned in the first episode around the five-minute mark, only the instrumental was used, and yet the lyrics work so beautifully for them also.
I found an AI-written article about the meaning of the lyrics and I was just going 'YES, YES, YES!!!' the whole time I was reading it. (I love it when my obsessive insanity is backed up by things more intelligent than me.)
I want to share some bits from it here:
'The song "Infinity" by Bluma Petersen (featuring Nadja Alsén) explores themes of self-discovery, growth, and the enduring nature of love. The song begins with a greeting to emotions, indicating a renewed awareness and connection to one's own feelings. The reference to oceans and rain symbolizes the vastness and fluidity of emotions. The singer acknowledges their familiarity with their own patterns and identity, expressing that they are aware of their own circles and name.'
'The chorus, "Reform and rise to be so free, In time we seize infinity," conveys a message of personal transformation and liberation. It suggests that by embracing change and evolution, one can achieve a sense of ultimate freedom and boundlessness.
The verses continue to explore various themes. The mention of borders being out of order and being out of pain suggests breaking free from limitations and past suffering.'
Kang and Sailom both endure such substantial and life-changing character development, as they navigate first their friendship and then their romantic relationship and again when they're separated.
Sailom needed to break free of his strict self-imposed limitations and learn how to ask for help and also to allow the people who love him to care for him.
Kang needed to break away from his own self-doubt and fear while learning to understand that expectations can be a dangerous thing.
'The lyrics also touch upon the idea of fighting and holding the line, which could imply overcoming obstacles or standing up for oneself. The references to never hiding and never lying indicate a commitment to authenticity and honesty in relationships.'
Honestly, this song could have been written for them.
We spoke many times about the honesty between Kang and Sailom in moments when it mattered. Except for direct feelings, as they struggled to express both their love and fear, they were honest with each other.
'The repeated lines about coming home and going strong suggest a sense of reunion and strength within a romantic relationship. It implies that despite their individual journeys, they still find solace and support with each other. The conclusion of the song emphasizes the idea of limitless love, with the repetition of "infinity" signifying its eternal nature.
Overall, "Infinity" embodies a message of personal growth, perseverance, and the undying power of love. It encourages embracing change, facing challenges, and finding strength in relationships to achieve a sense of freedom and seize the infinite possibilities that life offers.'
This AI-written article makes me wonder if this particular AI has somehow become sentient and is a fan of Dangerous Romance and has devoured our podcast, because when I was reading the article it was like it was inteligently speaking on why I loved this song and why it couldn't have been more perfect both for that moment in the show and Kang and Sailom's relationship.
The fact that this song was chosen by someone involved in this show and they chose to only include the instrument piece at the start of the song both impresses and kind of angers me.
It's such a good fit - Did they not realize it? Or is this just one more way the Dangerous Romance crew made it known that they are far superior to other productions by encouraging its viewers to engage and really dig into this show?
The song ends much like the show with love and freedom to be themselves together, which will last an infinity.
The way the show ends with Kang coming back to Sailom who has become his home, and in return, Sailom coming to Kang in the hotel room to embrace past fears and hurts lends itself very well to the ideas of home and strength we see mentioned at the end of the song.
A line I somehow missed with my many screenshots "Now we're ready to be whole." Oh, my poor Kanghan Sailom heart.
I love this idea of them feeling equal to each other in the end because they make up each other's missing pieces and now when they're together they're whole.

Dangerous Romance ep 1
It just hit me but thai high schools in shows are portrayed kinda like american hs. The question is are they really similar or it's just for the shows.
Also wondering if being a teacher is a respected position in Thailand
Chimons character will not be intimidated
I am honestly not liking it much right know, they are painting the rest of the show to be redemption arc for a school bully and it feels icky. Like I know there should be more about Sailoms live but ehh.
Is this mention of helicopter a foreshadowing???
Okey I actually really like Chimons character
Oh dad kills any aspirations Kang has?
hahhahahhahahahhaha this so no subtle at all
SUPRISE hehe

Re-watching Kinnporsche Ep 1 for this week's 15 Minutes, and Porsche has just arrived home to find the house trashed and Chay trying to clean up after Arthee's "creditors" have shown up, and I'm struck once again by some of the repeated themes we're seeing across KP and Dangerous Romance, given Sailom's experience with his family's creditors. DR is pulling fewer punches (lit. and fig.) on this one, given Sailom's had the shit kicked out of him - and it sounds like more than once - while we at least are never explicitly told this has ever happened to Chay.
This is also the ep in which Porsche makes the agreement to work as a bodyguard for the main family to pay off family debts and pay for Chay's tuition, and I'll probably write more about that in the actual 15 Minutes post, but it's another repeated theme across these two shows, and I ... hmm. Both Porsche and Sailom essentially sell themselves into indentured servitude to a wealthy family to pay off debt and pay for school, and that's something that I've been wanting to poke at w/r/t Sailom for a couple of weeks now but haven't had time to sit down and tease out. But it's. Hmm. A potential landmine, I think, because to me, it's directly tied to the scene in one of the trailers or mvs that hasn't shown up yet in the show, where Kanghan pushes Sailom down onto a bed, throws money in his face (AGAIN) and says "Why don't I buy you myself?" which - post-Sailom being required to move into the Sukprasert house and agree to remain there as Kanghan's tutor until Kanghan gets into college - leaves me saying out loud to my screen, "Boy, you already did, and the fact that you don't even seem to understand that is a problem." I was never quite satisfied with the way KP dealt with similar issues, and I'm not quite sure if the narrative didn't realize what it was doing, or didn't make it explicit enough, or if audience response affected some of my reaction, but I have similar feelings on this issue in KP vs. DR that I do about bullying in Bad Buddy vs. DR - that there's the potential here for DR to actually excavate some of these issues and deal with them - at all, really, but maybe actually even appropriately? - in a way they haven't been dealt with despite being present in the writers' previous work. And I wonder if this is purposeful on the part of the writing team and Bee Pongsate, in particular.
Or maybe they won't and I'll be as wrong about this as I was about Pimfah's crush on Sailom, I guess.
Anyway, this is a small detail but I also noticed this week on DR that there are photos, presumably of Mae and Pa Homchan, set up on a shelf with what may be a tealight candle holder between them? like a shrine at Saifah and Sailom's house, and I don't know how common that setup is in Thai culture to honor the dead of a household, but it immediately reminded me of the photos of (presumed dead) Nampheung and Redshirt McKittisawasd on the mantle with the candles in Porsche and Chay's house in KP.

Tbh this show isn't really one I'd usually watch because gmmtv generally does not do class very well errr more like when one is rich and the other is poor.
Regardless I like Chimon. I want him to succeed. I don't watch everything he's in but idk I just think he's neat lol
Perth I just love hehe How can I not love the guy whos played the only short top character in live action BL lol Maybe there's been another? if so I'd like to know! But we still need more! I'm Sooooooooo BORED of the height difference trope that is always the same. Like Short bottom? Tall top? groundbreaking.
Anyway just watched the first 2 eps and it's giving real boys over flowers vibes. Is this showing how ancient I am? totally lol Now that's not a knock on it because, well I don't really remember how most of the shows depicted it because I never really watched them since NONE of them have ever cast a girl that I've been like yeah That's Makino Tsukushi, but the manga reallyyy went there depicting how bad school hazing was. But there were still small moments of levity? Especially when the main girl would get the upper hand? Basically what's happening here!
Grandma?? ughh I Want to like her, but I'm so over the obligatory good rich person~ because you see they're not All monsters~!! Even tho your family is probably responsible for high costs of living since your son is a real estate mogul? But how sweet you fund 1 scholarship bleh
Why do I feel like the father is doing shady stuff and that's why he doesn't want his son to stand out? If Kang isn't special less eyes on his family all around…but I could be wrong. Idk I just read his reaction at the suggestion of his son becoming school president as like hell no, we already got enough eyes on us as it is. Or he just doesn't see his son as a worthy successor lol
I do like the 2 different depictions of people in poverty between the brothers. Some people are a bit more laid back like Saifah (almost like Tsukushis dad!! lol). What's a little luxury gonna do? Not like the money would've actually helped in the long run, etc. I do think that Sailom might be a bit too noble?? It's just there's no way someone in poverty would realistically risk losing their scholarship just for pride. This is pretty common in thai bls tho. Gets under my skin honestly lol the ''noble'' poor person. It's just such empty messaging to poor people bcz we know the rich got their money but WE have to be honest?? go away
Oh oh!!! Clothessss!!! This is what I was talking about when I was complaining about Be My Favorite! I didn't want krist to be covered in dirt and rags to convey he was poor but just to have clothes like how Sailom and his friends have! Clean but clearly faded from so many washes. Sailom's house is great too! It really conveys how they're living. I feel heard!!! lol
Anyway I'll keep watching and see how much I can take of the future bad depictions of lower class people lol Honestly these past 2 episodes weren't bad. I only had minor complaints about some of Sailoms decision.
#dangerous romance#dangerous romance the series#Ep. 1 and 2#honestly? i feel like boys over flower manga for all its faults still has one the best depictions of poor pple#and rich people arent being coddled and can be uglyyy
