Dan Severn Explains how the UFC can Improve Fighter Pay
Dan Severn says UFC should include financial royalty.
Fighter pay has been a topic that has long plagued the UFC. While many claim the fighters are underpaid, there are also many who claim that they get what they generate. Recently, Dan Severn, a UFC Hall of Famer and former fighter, weighed in on fighter pay. He even explained how the UFC could make improvements. Dan Severn is an American MMA fighter and a professional wrestler in retirement. He…

LET'S SAVE THIS 550 YEAR OLD TREE!!
'Darwin's oak' to be felled to make way for Shrewsbury bypass -- note: planners have no other place to run the roadway???
DAMIEN GAYLE Updated 1 November 2023 at 6:50 pm, Daily Mail
Tumblr media
As an eight-year-old, Charles Darwin may have sat in the shade beneath its boughs and climbed its branches. Two hundred years later, “Darwin’s oak” has been handed a death sentence to make way for a new road to bypass Shrewsbury.
Along with eight other veteran trees, the 550-year-old, open-grown oak tree, which has a girth of 7 metres (23ft), stands in the path of the planned Shrewsbury North West Relief Road (NWRR), an £80m bypass linking the northern and western parts of the town.
Despite a long-running campaign to save the ancient tree and its fellows, its fate was sealed on Tuesday night when Shropshire county council’s 11-member planning committee narrowly approved the new road, by six votes to five.
“It all ties in with Darwin’s theory of evolution,” said Rob McBride, a tree campaigner. “There’s too many dinosaurs on that committee.”
Shropshire county council describes the NWRR as the “next step in completing the ‘missing link’ in Shrewsbury’s road network”, completing a ring around the town of nearly 75,000 people. Proponents claim it will free up road space and take traffic out of the town centre, thereby improving air quality, reducing journey times and boosting the whole county’s economy.
“I absolutely accept that the NWRR divides opinions, but I’m confident that it will make a huge difference to people, not only within the town, but also in the surrounding villages,” said Dan Morris, Shropshire council’s cabinet member for highways, after the planning committee’s decision.
But critics say the planned new road “decimates” one of the last vestiges of countryside remaining in Shrewsbury. It will bisect the town’s “green wedge”, a green space that extends almost into the heart of the town, which McBride described as one of the few local areas not yet marred by development.
For five centuries, Darwin’s oak has stood as a landmark within that band of nature. It stands close to The Mount, the 1800 home of Robert Darwin, the father of Charles Darwin, and in countryside the naturalist explored extensively as a boy as he developed his love and curiosity for nature.
“It’s a majestic, impressive tree,” said McBride. “You can see it straight across the meadow as you come near the River Severn. There’s this low meadow and then it rises up into a hedgerow there. [It’s] just a brilliant landmark tree that many people, many residents use … to find solace and to connect with nature and to repair themselves, really.”
Shropshire’s decision came in the face of significant local opposition. About 5,000 objections to the new road were overruled by the planning committee when it passed the plan. Not only that, the Woodland Trust, the tree conservation charity, said the road’s approval rides roughshod over national planning rules that ought to protect ancient and veteran trees except in “wholly exceptional circumstances”.
Jack Taylor, the lead campaigner at the Woodland Trust, said: “Just weeks after the iconic Sycamore Gap tree was lost, we are now faced with the loss of another iconic tree. The narrow approval of the Shrewsbury North West Relief Road is a dark day for the environment and our natural heritage as it threatens the loss of this living legend, numerous other irreplaceable veteran trees, and will damage nearby ancient woodland. The UK needs better protection for these cathedrals of nature, before they are condemned to history.”
Local campaigners are still hopeful they can save the tree. A petition calling on the council to revisit its decision has reached 2,500 signatures. But if they fail, it means another living piece of Britain’s natural history will be lost for ever.
Shropshire Council has a facebook page where, hopefully, comments about this can be left; email to: [email protected]; write to: Feedback and Insight Team, Shropshire Council, Shirehall, Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, SY2 6ND. PLEASE WRITE THAT TAKING THIS TREE AND THE OTHERS DOWN IS JUST WRONG, THERE MUST BE ANOTHER WAY TO DO THIS ROADWAY WITHOUT TAKING DOWN THESE ANCIENT, MAJESTIC AND HISTORIC TREES!!

Tumblr media

I smiled looking at my laptop, I got accepted to be on the first female season of the ultimate fighter: Griffin vs Rampage. "Y/n you coming?" Nate yelled "yeah sorry!" I closed my laptop and grabbed my gym bag "what were you doing?" He asked by the door "Girl things" "girl things my ass" I laughed getting in Nicks car. I was hitting pads with Richard the guys were doing bag work "can I cut a bit of weight this week?" "Yeah why?" He asked "um you wanna go in the office?" "Sure.." he said unsure.
I sat across from him "I have two fights both wins so I sighed up for the first female season of TUF I got accepted im going in two weeks" I smiled "the boys know?" "No I'm gonna tell them at dinner tonight" "you sure that's what you wanna do I mean you've never said you wanted to do this, you haven't really fought " "well I can't there was no women division in the UFC I've had three fights your saying those don't count?" I came out ready for dinner they were standing by the counter "ready?" Nick asked "yep! You?" He chuckled ""we're always waiting on you" I slapped his chest as we walked to the car "are not!" "Are too" Nate laughed "we are y/n/n" I sighed. We sat down together got drinks "why'd you wanna go to dinner?" Nate asked "um I wanted to tell you guys something... " I took a sip of my drink they looked at me with wide eyes "well tell us then you cant not now?" Nick said "um well the UFC is allowing woman to fight now and they're doing a season of the ultimate fighter for it so I applied" "to help coaching?" Nate asked "No to fight! I got accepted!!" I smiled "you wanna fight?" "yeah! why are you guys shocked? I train everyday have three fights" my smile was slowly dropping "when do you leave?" "two weeks, I'm gonna need help in camp! you guys don't mind right?" "I'm not helping you" Nate said "me either" Nick join "what?!why not?" "your not gonna like it, you can just train you don't have to be a fighter. Notable moustaches - Individuals
The longest moustache measures 4.29 metres (14.1 ft) and belongs to Ram Singh Chauhan of India. It was measured on the set of Lo Show dei Record in Rome, Italy, on 4 March 2010.[17]
In some cases, the moustache is so prominently identified with a single individual that it could identify him without any further identifying traits.
For example, Kaiser Wilhelm II's moustache, grossly exaggerated, featured prominently in Triple Entente propaganda. Other notable individuals include: Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Saddam Hussein, Hulk Hogan, Don Frye, Dan Severn, Freddie Mercury, Salvador Dalí, Frank Zappa, Sam Elliott, Tom Selleck, Burt Reynolds, Borat and Steve Harvey.
In other cases, such as those of Charlie Chaplin and Groucho Marx, the moustache in question was artificial for most of the wearer's life.
Following a moped accident that left him with a scar on his upper lip, Paul McCartney decided to grow a moustache in order to hide it. The other members of the Beatles decided to do the same.
They were first seen with this new look on the cover of their 1967 album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
This marked the return of young men wearing moustaches in the 1960s

Some changes to the overall standings this week: Michelle McCool took the No. 2 spot on the least smashable women list, Logan Paul made No. 9 on the least smashable overall list, and Kabuki Warriors knocked the Golden Lovers off the top spot for tag teams that we'd like to be tag teamed by.
Logan Paul also got the fourth most votes overall. Usually when someone gets a lot of votes, it's because Tumblr is overwhelmed by its lust (Christian Cage, Hangman, and Sami Zayn, to name a few), but with Logan Paul, the motivation was more...bloodlust. His poll received the most pass votes so far (413), surpassing even Vince McMahon.
Also just want to share that Friday night, I had a dream I met Bret Hart and he told the the name of the handsomest wrestler alive and insisted that I run a poll on this guy. Sadly I cannot remember the name he said, and I'm pretty sure it would just be gibberish even if I could remember.
And now for some of my favorite tags and comments
@tache-noire on Dan Severn: #hes like if dax had hair
@daphne-minor on Logan Paul: #i’d rather smash bam margera than watch logan paul do anything

Baffled that a person is doing a Dan Severn history thread on Twitter and a) I can’t imagine what would compel a person to do that and b) everything you need to know about Dan Severn you already know.

Pro Wrestling Illustrated: 1995 THE YEAR IN WRESTLING. March 1996
MOST IMPROVED WRESTLER OF THE YEAR “DIAMOND” DALLAS PAGE: 21,919 votes
Managing was supposed to be “Diamond” Dallas Page’s specialty–his only specialty. So when he decided to begin competing as a wrestler full-time a few years back, well, it looked like an even worse move; Page just didn’t look like a wrestler.
Eventually, though, Page became more than a wrestler, he became a champion. In the process, he became Most Improved Wrestler of the Year for 1995.
“For a guy who used to do nothing but talk, talk, talk,” wrote Brenda Parmalee of Houston, “Page has come a long way.”
He certainly has. Page’s repertoire includes several different suplexes and a few nifty flying moves. He’s also a rugged, courageous brawler, and his stamina has improved greatly. Perhaps most important, he also possesses a finishing maneuver: an excellent version of the DDT that he calls the “Diamond Cutter.”
In a sense, his success should come as no surprise. As manager of Badd Company in the AWA, and later The Freebirds, Page proved himself an excellent instructor, as well as a fine strategist. Now he’s merely using for himself what he had tried to impart to others.
“Page always liked to brag that he was so great,” wrote Carl Belinda of Ames. Iowa. “Now he’s starting to back up his boasts. About time.”
He has backed them up with wins over Dave Sullivan, Hacksaw Duggan, Alex Wright, and Johnny B. Badd, and especially with his Tv title victory over The Renegade at Fall Brawl.
“It doesn’t surprise me that DDP won a title,” said Pat Tanka, whom Page managed in Badd Company. “He always said he wanted to wrestle more. It took him a while to get going, but once he started winning, he wasn’t going to let anything get in his way.”
As dramatically as Page has improved, the consensus is that he’d be even better if he didn't spend so much time trying to impress the Diamond Doll. His attempts to win her interest have forced him to make bad decisions.
“He’s also  jealous of the attention she gets,” Sting explained. “He loses his cool and does stupid things. He’s lucky it hasn’t cost him much yet, but he better be aware of it.”
On the other hand, Page may not have improved so strongly if Doll hadn’t been there to inspire him.
RUNNERS-UP
TOMMY DREAMER: 14,910 votes
First runner-up: Dreamer began showing marked improvement after he returned to ECW from a tour of Japan early in the year. He’s quicker, he’s a better brawler (especially outside of the ring), and he executes an excellent DDT. For most of the year, Dreamer feuded with Raven in ECW, where many fans consider him the ultimate hardcore wrestler and cheer him wildly.
HARLEM HEAT: 12,613 votes
Second runner-up: Despite having won several titles in Texas, Booker T and Stevie Ray were unheralded when they signed with Sherri Martel in 1994. After a dubious start, they have gone on to win four WCW World tag team titles. In a memorable feud with The Nasty Boys, they displayed increased confidence and finely honed killer instinct.
SAVIO VEGA: 9,983 votes
Third runner-up: At the beginning of 1995, Vega wasn’t doing much. Then he came to the WWF in May. rescued Razor Ramon from an attack by Jeff Jarrett and The Roadie, and started looking like a winner himself. He is a martial arts master as well as a better-than-average brawler. He’s a good friend of Razor, and that has helped him gain opportunities for success.
VOTES FOR OTHERS (15,812)
Some of the top vote-getters who did not capture a runner-up spot include: Jesse James Armstrong, Barry Horowitz, Jean-Pierre Lafitte, Dan Severn, and Taz.
