Gossip Girl Playlists: Theatre Kid AU edition!—Dan’s

I don’t even remember exactly how this started, but it’s @strideofpride’s fault. 

The concept began as: if they were in this world, what would be in the GG mains’ MT books? What would be their go-to song? Their 16 bar cut? And then, I got on spotify, and got wayyyy too carried away (typical me), and it sort of morphed into: what are the NJBC’s (plus Daniel’s) senior musical theatre recital programs? And now I have this: a quartet of playlists of repertoire handpicked by me for these fake people, and I am very proud of them. 

All selections based on my very particular taste, honed from a childhood in community theater, an adolescence in high school musicals, and a 4 year degree from a majority musical theatre school

And, as in the tradition of Glee and all plays within a play, the rep reflects something profoundly personal about the character, because you know I love a theme. 

Oh Danny boy, my darling. In MT land, he has…sort of the inverse of Nate’s conundrum. He is Leading Man Material, but he gets kind of shoehorned into character stuff because he’s just good at his job. But – come on, this guy? He’s a romantic, and he SHINES in the ~romance~ 

Like, we should always keep talking about he and blair playing opposite each other in all the shows in all the aus amen.

His type: the wide-ranging baritenor. He can go low, and there’s an understated richness to his voice that lends itself to that, but I see Dan having the vocal control to do less “singy” roles as well. I think he ends up leaning more into tenor than Nate, like in classical crossover he’d sit just that much higher, but his voice is bigger, which is how I’m justifying the Street Scene song below. Also, in listening to Badgley sing other stuff, he can do that hook into his falsetto and come back belting and it’s hella tender and hella sexy.  And, by nature of his background plus the training a degree would give him, Dan can navigate a wide range of styles, which is hwy of the playlists, this one is…the most all over the place, but I have a reason for all of it, I swear, which is: I do what I want. 

Also: musician!Dan my beloved. He would play piano and guitar and mayhaps…another instrument?

I Could Be in Love with Someone Like You — The Last Five Years

JRB songs are too long when you’re sitting in studio class, but damn. they fuck. 

And for how cynical I got over this musical in college (because every bitch sings Still Hurting), it is a fantastic and clever piece. It’s the story of a couple, from falling in love to marrying to falling apart, told chronologically from Jamie’s perspective, and reverse-chronologically from Cathy’s perspective. 

It’s also semi-autobiographical. A semi-autobiographical work about a star crossed couple and their breakup GEE SOUND FAMILIAR?!

Anyways, this song was replaced after the workshop with “Shiska Goddess”—which was the correct choice, but I like the character study in this song. 

At the beginning of their relationship, Jamie is starting to fall for Cathy, and her Irish heritage may or may not have something to do with it. 

Wondering — The Bridges of Madison County

Again, I love this musical so much. I am a stan, I will accept no criticism. 

After an “almost kiss” kind of moment with the kind woman he meant in the countryside, Robert ponders the moment and the chemistry he felt. With one of the most unhinged (compliment) bridges (pun not intended) in MT. daircore

I’ve got a lot of opinions on jukebox musicals, mostly that we have enough of them. If Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson can write originals then no one else has any excuse. But this one is good. Because it’s Carol. 

This is the James Taylor number of the show. So of course Dan has to sing it. 

One Song Glory — Rent

As an Opera Person, I will always harbor a soft spot for 90s rock La Boheme. And it really fits Dan’s son-of-a-90s-rocker schtick doesn’t it?

And like, I think it’s easy to get corny about it, like, we all sang seasons of love at high school graduation, but it really is a masterwork. Andrew Garfield Jonathan Larson was a genius. And, like Boheme, people get swept in the ~romance~ and have to be reminded of how fucking raw it is. 

Like I didn’t really understand this song until I saw the show in undergrad, and sung by a guy who was just — born for it. He and Aaron Tveit. They get what it means. 

Roger is a musician living with HIV and depression (and his documentarian roommate and bff Mark), and is convinced that he won’t be alive very much longer, and all he wants is to write just one song that he can be remembered for. 

Lonely House — Street Scene

Street Scene is a show that plays jump rope with the line between opera and musical theatre, and it really just depends on the singer. Dan would, have big enough classical chops to sing this, but give it a more mt bent, which I wouldn’t hate. 

As someone who leans more on the side of classical in my preferences, sometimes I think operatic tenors overdo it on this song. Honestly if companies didn’t make up the stupid ass rule that every voice type has to have a contemporary aria in their package, operatic tenors wouldn’t sing this as much as they do. But that’s a rant for another time. 

And I remember a colleague singing this to close out a recital program, and we were in this church that had one (1) door, and after he sung, during the outro, he walked right out the door. And it ROCKED. So I think it’s a good act closer.

Hero and Leander — Myths and Hymns

Another Adam Guettel offering! Do I have an agenda? Only to be an evil dictator of taste.

Speaking of, this song cycle/revue is such a rare gem that a decent recording of a decent singer is so hard to find, that I had to settle for the mashup Tveit did in his 54 below show. So, when you get to this track, if you want to skip the first…minute and 30 seconds, then you’ll get straight to this song. 

(the first one is from Next to Normal, and is beautifully sung of course, it’s just irrelevant in terms of this playlist

It’s got that falsetto hook that I just know Dan would be good at. 

This show doesn’t have a plot, it’s a revue, so each song is like its own contained story. This one is about the myth of Hero and Leander. 

Leander would swim across the sea every night to meet with his lover Hero, until the gods sent a storm, and on one of his nightly swims, he drowns. Those greek myths amirite. 

When We Dance (trio w/ Blair & Nate) — The Last Ship

I think if you’re looking at this meta-wise, Dan’s character is more in line with the other male lead—steady, supportive, romantic, the “right” choice, but hey, they’re Acting, and musically, the main guy’s part is better. And this trio is just sooooo pretty. 

And it can be ot3-esque if you want it to be (I know I do).

After running away from his tiny shipbuilding hometown, Gideon returns fifteen years later to make his move on the girl he left behind, Meg. she’s having none of it, she has a new man (Arthur), and a kid that’s fifteen years old give or take nine months. Her new man also pleads his case. 

One Second and a Million Miles (duet w/ Blair)  — The Bridges of Madison County

Thee big duet of the show. Facing the end of their time alone together, Robert proposes that Francesca come with him when he leaves town. It’s just—promise me you’ll listen to it. There’s nothing like it. “If I Loved You” MAYBE. But nothing else like it. 

Later — A Little Night Music

My guy would absolutely have a sondheim set in his recital I just know it in my heart.

(I’ve seen guys sing this song and play the cello part live themselves, so, why not Dan?)

It’s a complicated domestic drama about a privileged family and all their internal troubles (sound familiar?)

Henrik, a lawyer’s son & lutheran seminary student, is an over-serious over-thinker, and now he’s got to fucking deal with his dad marrying a woman who’s younger than him—and yikes I just realized how close this hits god fucking help me. 

ANYWAYS this is staged with Henrik either actually playing the cello or just miming it, and I find that. very attractive.

Losing My Mind — Follies

Originally written for Dorothy Collins for a women's role, Jeremy Jordan gave a cabaret performance that still blows me away every time I listen. 

And it is BIG Daniel Humphrey Professional Yearner energy

Probably one of thee best songs in the MT zeitgeist.

George Seurat (french pointillist) and his lover Dot have a great grandson also named George, who is also an artist struggling to just fucking make something. 

Dot appears to him in a vision, speaks to him like he’s her George (I mean they’re both Mandy Patinkin, so), and they exchange the most poignant lyrics about art and creativity that have ever been written. Oh, Stephen <3

You might say that this one is overdone, but when it’s done well, it always Hits.

Season 06

After millennia of being forced to rule Hell and then blamed for centuries for humanity's sins, Lucifer Morningstar decided to move to Los Angeles on Earth in 2011 for a better life. There his life made a turn for the better, finding justice for the innocent and falling in love with Chloe Decker. At the end of the previous season, Lucifer seemed poised to succeed his father as the next God. Now in this final season, we will see where this new development leads Lucifer, his friends, and family as the series comes to a close.

A Good End to a Good TV Show

As much as I wished Lucifer could go on longer, I am also happy that it ended before giving the writers a chance to screw the show up. This series finale, it really was a good one. However, if one were to compare Lucifer Season 6 with its predecessors, obviously this was not the best season. However, as a series finale, this last season did good. I still have my own complains about it but I rarely come across a good series finale and Lucifer Season 6 happened to be one of the very little good ones out there.

I absolutely loved when we hear or see lines or scenes that were from previous seasons. There were many I didn't quite catch myself but since I was watching it with my sister who's a huge Lucifer fan, she caught them for me. For example, when Dan mentioned "bracelet brothers" to Lucifer or when Chloe reenacted her very first conversation with Lucifer by the same piano. Nostalgia can be a bitch sometimes but in Lucifer Season 6, it brought a wave of warm fuzzy feelings to me. Other than playing the nostalgia card, that last montage was also perfect. It's weird because it brought out so much longing emotions from me yet it helped me get closure with the TV show too. I can only say, that montage – what was being shown in it – and the music playing in the background, it was a great call for an ending.

Unfortunately, I have several complains about this season too. That entire shebang with Ella was obviously rushed and happened out of nowhere. It was so random, I actually suspected if this subplot was added in the very last minute. The execution was just...no good! Also, maybe I like my action scenes in supernatural shows but I've noticed Lucifer rarely has good "fight/battle" scenes. I am fine with that except...that was the final "battle", couldn't the writers have included...more to it? It was extremely underwhelming that I much rather preferred that botched battle between Lucifer and Michael back in Lucifer Season 5B. I am not saying I hated that scene between Lucifer and Michael, I'm just saying if you've seen that scene, you would know it's not actually a real battle scene. Which sadly means that, I preferred the comedy over the emotional final "battle" scene.

Although upsetting, I know there's nothing this review can do about my "grievances" so I shan't brood over them anymore. Instead, I will just remember what a great series finale this season was. That little scene between Dan and Charlotte was very, VERY much appreciated, thank you. And believe it or not, everything that happened in Lucifer Season 6 as an ultimate ending, it really made sense. To all TV show writers, this is how you rock a series finale.

P.S.: Just extremely curious and hella confused, why couldn't Lucifer take a break from Hell therapy during that period of time?

Nicky: Electric guitar?? He’s got so much energy he can pull off the coolest riffs for sure. His parents made him learn the guitar as a kid but as soon as he got out, he switched to electric guitar because he loves how much more noise he can make, and he’s just extra like that

Allison: was taught the violin as a child but refuses to play it because it reminds her of her parents. She’s also a pretty good singer, but only really sings in front of Renee

Renee: she’s one of those people who can pick up an instrument and play super easily. Stephanie taught her music theory and Renee can read sheet music so as long as she knows the basics of an instrument she can play like a boss

Aaron: I feel like he’s a Bass kinda guy. Super chill, barely talks, but is hella talented on the bass

Dan: she’s never had the opportunity to learn instrument really, but she’s got amazing vocals. Like she’ll be driving with Matt and belting out Sia or Beyoncé songs like it’s no big deal

Matt: definitely an acoustic guitar guy. I feel like him and Nicky both jam all the time. PLUS he’s got the deepest vocals. Him and Dan can do a mean duet

Kevin: piano for sure. I feel like he’s got the commitment and passion to play classical piano, but when jamming with Matt and Nicky, he easily picks up all the songs they play even though he’s never heard of them, he’s just good like that

Andrew: drums!!!! Definitely a drums guy. He’s got enough anger and reflexes that he moves so fast you don’t even see his hands moving. Also I feel like he’s picked up playing the piano from being around Kevin all the time but only plays it in front of Neil.

Neil: poor, sweet Neil... as much as he tries, Neil cannot hold a tune or play any instrument on the right beat. Matt has managed to teach him the basic chords on the guitar but whenever Neil plays with the others, it’s so out of beat. But he looks like he’s having so much fun that the others don’t say anything.

SUNNI'S NSP EXPERIENCE (SanFran2017)

Ok shiz (if im missing anything or I go out of order, i apologize, its 1am anD IM SO EXCITED still)

Firstly, NEVER expected NSP to come anywhere NEAR where I lived, but they have and I'm sooo happy.

So! Me and @trashpits met up around 4 or 5, and right after an accident (i caused my bad), we headed inside and got to sit in line.

Met some REALLY cool fans and played some Cards against Humanity while we waited. No idea who won tho. Also there was a kid dressed as Ninja Brian and was fully in character the whole time. It was amazing.

So once we waited...and waited...and waited, we finally got let in! Already tho, the vip guys took up most if not ALL the front section, so sadly, the chances of Dan seeing me were kinda out. But! We stood and hung out while we waited.

Cece unfortunately needed to take a breather and I was alone on the GA floor while the show was getting ready to go. But she got a good view from where she was so it was alright.

Finally after some REALLY LONG BASS, they brought up the warm up act, a guy by the name of M.C. Chris? He was okay but he DRAINED ON like, I could only take his voice so long before I go annoyed.

Once he left tho, we got TWRP up! And truth be told, I'm kinda digging how they sound. Before I just kinda saw them as "eh", but now they're pretty solid. Also I was kinda close(?) so they were BIGGER than I thought. Must be those Canadian genes.

They wrapped up their set and get ready for NSP to show, they first put up the animation @gorillaprutt did!! It was actually pretty badass and I laughed pretry hardXD

And THEN MY BOYS APPEARED

And let me tell you right now. Dan's hair. Up close. Is seriously. Beautiful.

He was so excited, I could just FEEEL the excitement he had and Brian, omg

This was my first time seeing Brian in person??? So like, FIRST HE LOOKED COOL AS FUCK. SECOND HES SMALLER THAN I THOUGHT. AND DAMN IS HE GOOD AT KEYBOARD I SWEAR.

anyway, they did their theme song as an opener, and Danny greeted the crowd ans so did Brian (by kindly flipping us off).

They sang Cool Patrol which was GREAT, and they started talking about how they wanted to write a song about superheroes, which segwayed into Unicorn Wizard.

Then my phone died on me and I internally cried.

But! After that, they played a super secret video ;) it was great btw.

Oh! And they played You Spin me Round!! Damn that was fun.

Danny went into the back and Brian did his piano piece and DAMN SON SEEING BRIAN PLAY WAS BEYOND COOL TO WATCH. He moved so fast?!?

Danny came back after and wanted to play Road Trip (i think) but Brian cut in with the bloopy reggae jams. And Sung remixed it into a Latino mix and a Punk Rock mix. Dan was ON THE FLOOR IN A BALL. LIKE CHRIST HELP ME.

So then, they ACTUALLY played Road Trip.

They did the ballad version of Dinosaur Laser Fight and I'm gonna be honest, Dan singing live...is better than in the recording booth??? Like...IDK HOW BUT HES SO MUCH BETTER IN PERSON TO HEAR.

He didn't even CEASE BEING SEXY Ok. There was a bit of him combing through his hair and I felt my heart tighten like FF

So Dan said some really nice stuff about how the world has fucked up people in it, but we must all say FUCK THOSE GUYS because we're better than that. I love that boy so much. He then segwayed into Everybody wants to Rule the World, and I was just...in love you guys.

We also had one more super secret thingy and I THINK IT MIGHT BE MY NEW SECOND FAVORITE SONG??? (3 Minutes of Ecstasy will always be first but this one, hhhhh)

I adored it. And it made me feel so good to be a fan. And Dan even talked about how before, he would just play shows for 10 or so people in a basement, and he had this big goofy smile and said "this is so much better."

They did No Pants Dance and DAN SLIPPED THE STRAPS OFF HIS OUTFIT FOR A SPLIT SECOND AND I SCREAMED HELLA LOUD.

Like FUCKIN don't give me a heart attack in the middle of the crowd Avidan. JESUS.

That was amazing, also Dan holds notes so long and IM SO PROUD.

Nearing the end of the show, Brian and Phobos kissed, which was GREAT 10/10.

And after No Pants Dance, i think they said they were done? And began to leave offstage while everyone was cheering for an encore. Then Dan and Brian come out and go into the mic going "well that's exactly what we're doing."

They didn't just play one song. THEY DID TWO.

Dan and Brian played Wish you Were Here, and guys...I saw Dan just...taking it all in. Looking around at the lights of the phones in the crowd, and the people cheering for him and Brian and I just saw so much humbleness in one look, that I started to feel emotional. They finished and called TWRP back up and they finished with The Hit and THAT WAS IT.

Also Brian kissed Phobos TWICE. Also he took his cash from his pocket.

And after the show I got my merch and a SHIRT, and goddammit you guys. It was so fun and I'm so sad I have work and real life to go back to, but I'll always love these boys and the show they gave us. They just care so much and I love them to pieces.

And I can't shake off the feeling of just being so happy to see them in front of me. Lord I want them to come back so bad. And I GOTTA be closer to Dan next time like...PLEASE.

1. Which artist were you obsessed with when you were a kid?

um I’m really not much of an art person I’m an astrophysics student lol so I would have to say as a child it was probably the illustrators of my fav books?? idk

2. Which artist are you obsessed with now?

now I’m into a few of artists on instagram, adamtots, cassandracalin & dami_lee, they’re all fun little relatable comics

3. Who is the most important person to you?

the most important person to me is my boyfriend (dan) of five years yes cheesy and bleh I know he’s my rock and he makes me laugh like a maniac every day because he’s such a goof

4. If you could play an instrument, which one would it be?

I can’t play a single instrument rip me I used to take singing lessons as a child, but I think I would have to say piano? its very versatile

5. If you could live in a movie, a TV series or a book, in which one would you like to live and why?

I would have to say the Star Trek universe bc I am fully obsessed with space if you didn’t guess from the degree course and also there’s so much wonderful inclusion and unity in star trek, they believe in peace and loving everyone which is fab

6. Name three things that you love about your favourite sim.

my fav sim is Alex Houston - the founder of my legacy - and I love her bc she’s a giant space nerd like me, she’s super dedicated and driven with her life, and she dresses way cooler than me lol

7. Can you name one random thing that you always carry with you whenever you go somewhere?

um this is silly but I always have one of dan’s guitar picks with me, it goes into my exams with me and everything, I guess it’s a good luck charm?? idk

I've never actually thought about it so I guess not?

9. What do you do when it’s raining outside?

I live in the UK so it rains constantly so mostly I have to just get on with my plans for the day, but if I’m not busy and it’s more like a storm, it’s nice to sit in with blankets and my dog and watch a movie, or play board games 

10. Name one thing that made you happy today. If you can’t then go grab a piece of chocolate, lie down on your bed, eyes closed and listen to your favourite song. I’m not kidding, do it please.

my current fav is Feels bc its so summery

can I say dog or my bf?? I met my two best friends at university, one lives 4 hours away from me and the other 6+ hours :( but I’ll see them again when I go back to uni in October!

probably to be super speedy bc then I would have more time to sleep lol

I do actually! the first sim I made in sims 4 was my simself! obv her name was jen

I do read, my fav book is Ready Player One, I've read it about 30 times and I'm so not ready to be disappointed by the film next year

I think first sight is a bit of a stretch?? I knew the first day I spent with my bf that we clicked, but love and lust/chemistry are two v v different things

Alex’s fav food is 100% scrambled eggs & bacon for breakfast, and grilled cheese or BLTs for lunch and dinner

probably werewolves bc I think wolves are awesome and also bc teen wolf

the last time was tuesday night I think? I took about 60 screenshots for my legacy as I needed a big queue to cover working this weekend and going to london for bday celebrations next week. I’m gonna have hella sims withdrawal next weekend when I get back!

Angel eyes

Il ne comprenait pas. Vraiment pas. Un nouveau juge dans Asia got Talent ? Mais qui ? Il s’assit à côté de la place qu’occuperait le remplaçant d’Angunn et fixa le dernier quand l’homme arriva. Propre sur soi, quelqu’un de sincèrement stylé. L’homme s’installa calmement alors que la foule hurlait. Il portait une veste de costard bleu nuit, un col roulé blanc et un jeans délav�� simple ainsi qu’un beanie noir. L’homme avait du style et les yeux les plus bleus de la terre. Jay arqua un sourcil quand l’homme lui tendit doucement la main avec le sourire le plus tendre du monde.

 « Bonjour, je m’appelle Jack. » dit-il avec une voix profonde.

 Fuck i’m gay.

 « Vous… parlez… coréen… » marmonna Jay

« Bien vu Sherlock. » L’homme fixa la scène alors que les premiers candidats commençaient a arrivés

 Jay observa l’homme très sincèrement, il donnait des avis construits et doux, il était calme et tellement plus reposé. Moins chaotique que lui en soi.  Tout au long des auditions, ils virent enfin un groupe de rock et Jack était assis sur le bord de son siège. Le bassiste du groupe était tellement nerveux sous le regard inquisiteur de Jack qu’il resta blanc comme un linge.

 « You my idol.. » marmonna le bassiste

 Jack rit un peu et se leva pousser par l’autre juge a montrer un peu de talent.

 « Oh my, haven’t done that in a while. »

 Il prit la basse et la plaça sur ses épaules de dos à la sale, montrant en s’étirant légèrement ses tatouages dans le bas de son dos, offrant à Jay tout le luxe de se questionner sur sa sexualité. Jack posa un solo improvisé, jouant sur ses épaules à l’envers. Il s’arrêta en riant et signa la basse du jeune homme en coulisse. Si Jay avait commencé a de plus en plus avoir des sentiments pour cet homme il n’en voyait que la première couche. Et Jack de semaine en semaine s’ouvrit un peu quand une jeune fille au bonnet arriva, avec un petit bracelet orange au poignet, elle chantait une version plus acoustique d’un morceau de JUMP et Jay haussa un sourcil. Jack s’était lever et vint se poser pour jouer au piano laissant la jeune femme chanter. Elle sourit tristement à Jack qui jouait sans trop se soucier du reste. Elle leva les yeux vers le pianiste improvisé à la fin de la musique et se pencha pour l’enlacer. Jack lui rendit son câlin et sourit.

 « How long ? » demanda-t-il

« Seven months. » dit-elle avec un petit sourire posant ses mains sur son bonnet. « you ? »

« One year. » Il posa sa main sur son beanie.

 Et le Coeur de Jay s’arrêta un moment en voyant Jack si doux, si prévenant avec cette fille.

 Soir de repos pour les juges, chaque partant pour son hôtel… Jay observa de loin Jack puis le rejoignit un peu à la hâte.

 « Ehm… dude… you wanna go… grab a beer ? » osa Jay

 Jack soupira et plaque Jay contre un mur, sans douceur. Son regard bleu plongé dans les noisettes du natif de Seattle.

 « Call me dude one more time, and you can say goodbye to nice Jack. » il recula calmement et s’étira, remontant encore sa chemise pour dévoiler des tatouages.

« Je suis pas certain de comprendre… » Marmonna Jay

« Peut-être qu’en coréen tu comprendras mieux ? Je n’aime pas qu’on m’appelle dude. J’ai même ça en horreur. » Il sourit doucement « Toi tu peux live, parce que tu as des arguments… mais en dehors.. Arrête. Pitié. You’re already making it hard for me to stay friendly… »

“Do … do you hate me ?”

 If he hates me I’m really a badguy...

“Hate you ?” Jack rit en secouant la tête « You really think I could hate you ? »

“I call you dude…” murmura Jay

“And you have a pass for that because you’re hella cute.”  Soupira Jack “I’m no saint you think I am sweetheart.” Jack soupira

“I’m no saint too..” marmonna Jay

“Sure thing. If what you rap you did… you’re the picture perfect American fuckboy.” Dit Jack amusé

“Yeah…” Jay baissa la tête et fixa ses pied savant de regarder Jack “Dude I’v neve-“

 Jack le replaqua contre le mur et prit ses lèvres sans douceurs. Le baiser était féroce et assez sec. Et quand le gallois se recula, la tête basse, Jay reprit le col du gallois pour reprendres ses lèvres entre les siennes et l’embrasser encore.

 Fuck i’m so fucking gay for him… Wait does that count as being gay if he’s the only one i’m hard for ?

 Jack se recula avec douceur et caressa les cheveux de Jay doucement. Il lui demanda s’il n’y avait pas un endroit plus approprié et voilà deux heures plus tard, Jack était installé dans la chambre d’hôtel de Jay. Discutant de musique puis avec l’alcool ils discutaient, de tout et de rien…

 « Hey Jack… Tu disais que ça faisait un an ? » Demanda Jay

« Un an que je suis en rémission totale d’un cancer qui aurait dut avoir ma vie. » dit Jack calmement avec le sourire le plus calme du monde « Depuis j’ai décidé de vivre a fond sans regretter les gestes… T’embrasser par exemple est une impulsion, réfléchie certes, mais le Jack d’avant la maladie n’aurait jamais fait ça. » Il soupira un peu

« Hey Jack… » Jay leva la tête « Est-ce que je suis gay si le seul mec qui me fait bander c’est toi ? » Marmonna Jay assez alcoolisé

« Je ne pense pas que tu sois gay, si y a que moi, je penses surtout que t’as aucun goût… » Jack rit un peu

 Puis les lèvres de Jay se refermaient sur les siennes, le baiser était calme et doux différents des autres, moins forcé, moins féroce… Jay s’installa sur les genoux de Jack pour soupirer.

 « I’ve got too much alcool in my system… you could do what you want with me…»

“Sure thing… but I’ve got none at all in my veins and I am not taking any advantage of you love.”

 Jay regardait son téléphone puis ses potes quand il sursauta, Simon et Zico lui montrant une vidéo. Jack Lincoln, était remonté sur scène, sans bonnet, ses cheveux blond vénitien tombant mi longs et hirsute sur son visage brillant, lumineux. Il portait un débardeur noir, proche de son corps, sous-lignant chaque muscle et montrant ses tatouages. Il avait filé sa basse à contrecœur à Elrick qui l’avait pousser du pieds au cul.

 « Sing damn welsh. » fit Elrick dans la vidéo

« Goodness » Jack rit « What should I sing ?!”

 La foule s’exclama sur plusieurs chansons mais la majorité chantait One night Stand.

 « One night stand it is.. » Il sourit a Faust, Elrick et Malia avant de commencer a chanter.

 Et derrière le téléphone Jay avait chaud. Depuis quand l’ange au sourire d’or, cet homme qui avait refusé de tirer profit de son ivresse chantait une chanson si … dépravée… Jack chantait comme un dieu et Jay était très très très confus.

 « Guys, I may be really in love with him…”

 “Dude… Sorry euh… Jack… would you like date me ? “

“Hm ? What now ? Aren’t you straight ?”

“I’m happy to never touch boobs again if that means being with you.”

“Until you miss them too much.”

“Try out run of two months ? If you get through them, we’ll officially date.”

Their emotional/moral weak spots

daniel

emotional: the deaths/endangerments of his beloveds, feeling like he’s not Good Enough, feeling like he’s broken

moral: The Hydrogen Bomb Thing. translation: daniel is reckless and yes he asked for the island to be evacuated but that would only apply to the dharma folk, so basically he put his own goals (reset time, bring back charlotte) over the lives and safety of the people on the island. so i figure char’s death mentally and emotionally broke dan so she’s his Weak Spot

miles

emotional: miles, typically sadroic and whatever, got reeeal fucking Angery and defensive when hurley brings up stuff with his dad. dude went from annoyed to lashing out (i mean, yelling and deflecting). also nobody brings up his mom around miles but i figure that’d be a bad idea too. also anybody trying to even imply that his powers are cool, cuz he hates it

moral: money money money (must be funny, in a rich man’s world). seriously, this little fucker dug up dead people for diamonds. also, due to his defensive salt walls, he treats his friends kinda mean sometimes

charlotte

emotional: do not hurt/threaten daniel. and she doesn’t like being talked down to, i imagine being a woman in a scientific field, she’d get a lot of that and we know char has a short temper so yeah. (i figure she has an attitude of “ppl are gonna think i’m a bitch anyways, i’ll be a bitch first”). also i think her mum is a sore subject for sometimes because they have kind of a uneasy relationship (semi good terms but eehhhhh)

moral: we’re given no indication of a lack of moral fiber. i don’t think she ever does anything wrong (any issues the survivours have with the sci team is because they started off hella suspicious of them). that being said, i can assume if the need arised, she would kill to protect daniel

life. life makes him cry. but seriously, we see him cry when he’s upset from being brain damaged, and feeling sorry for what happened to theresa, he tears up asking if eloise will be proud of him, he cries when char is getting sicker and he really cries when she’s dying and finally dead. like, it’s painful to look at

the concept of his mother being proud of him (and lack thereof)

in general i imagine post-finale miles will become more and more capable of expressing his emotions properly. not right away but he’ll get there

char is emotionally defensive around ppl she doesn’t like (or don’t like her) and strangers so she may seem Grumpy/Bitchy at times but otherwise, once she’s comfy with somebody she’s emotionally free and its fine

and i think they’d all cry when they get their memories back in limbo. even moreso for dan and char because they’re together and in love and char actually says it and it’s A Lot, okay. it’s a big thing and they’re crying and im crying

Sierra Burgess is a Loser Review

So my friend and I sat down and watched Sierra Burgess is a Loser this weekend.  Now, I tried to go in blind.  I avoided posts on Instagram, I had only seen the trailer and nothing more, so I didn’t know what to expect.  So here’s an honest reaction.

It was pretty good.

Teen romcoms are a guilty pleasure of mine, even the bad ones entertain me, so I may be entirely biased.  But I can say it holds up nicely in the critical part of my brain.  I didn’t really notice any glaring plot holes, everything that could’ve been a problem was explained or covered (Sierra’s (Shannon Purser) voice being different than Veronica’s (Kristine Froseth), stuff like that), and they even made fun of a few cliches while still using them.  On top of that, most of the things that were cringey were supposed to be cringey which was a nice change.

I anticipated from the first few minutes that Veronica would have the cliche Tragic Backstory™, but I was pleasantly surprised that it was a little different.  Brash pageant mom was a nice change from the typical extremely abusive parent trope.  Another thing that was pleasantly surprising was that THE COMEDIC SIDEKICK WAS ACTUALLY FUNNY.  Dan (RJ Cyler) was probably the highlight of the movie.  He was just so fun and always wearing bright colors and it was the best.

At the end of the movie [SPOILERS], there’s a part where Sierra writes a song and performs it for her dad before sending it to Veronica.  Whenever she pulled out the piano, I was preparing myself for a whole shitstorm of cringe, but it, thankfully, didn’t pan out that way.  They let the song become background music and had a few things happen over it, and the song pretty effortlessly became apart of the background instead of sticking out and being a very cliche “watch me sing about how sad I am” scene.

Quite possibly my favorite part was that they made such a huge deal about friendship! Platonic malexfemale friendship AND femalexfemale friendship!  So many romcoms brush over it or just let it fade away, pushing it aside, but this one seemed to make it the main focus which was honestly a blessing.  The chemistry between Veronica and Sierra was better than it was between Jamey (Noah Centineo) and Sierra honestly, and I am here for it. It even chose to end on the friend’s hugging rather than anything to do with the romantic leads which made my heart happy.

The acting was overall pretty great and it was effortless to watch and enjoy.  On that note, onto something I didn’t like.

The biggest thing that bothered me and I have to get out of the way first was Jamey and Sierra’s first kiss.  Jesus Christ, I wanted to scream.  There is something so, so, so uncomfortable about watching someone be kissed by someone while thinking it’s someone else.  It’s basically sexual harassment regardless of the fact that she was the one he was actually falling for.  He thought it was Veronica and their whole switch thing was really not okay. The only one who seemed to have a negative reaction to it was Dan, but even then it was completely disregarded.  They even make a joke about it at the end! Man, it was the worst.

A less significant thing that bothered me was they really didn’t show how much the two texted.  They’d say they liked each other and that they texted all the time, but it was never really shown.  Even when their phones were shown, it’d be left off on the text sent the night before.  I don’t know about you, but when I feel like when you like someone, you want to text them all day and night and you ABSOLUTELY wouldn’t be leaving them on read.  It was hella weird.

Then there was the fact that they ended up together! I mean, they definitely had a good talk at the end, but Jamey was lowkey into Veronica way before the beginning of the movie.  The idea that he would just forgive them both for messing with him like that just because she wrote a song is just really ridiculous to me.

There were probably more problems and more things that I enjoyed, but these are all I can remember at this moment in time.  All in all, it was an entertaining teen romcom and would recommend.

Lesson of the day: If you ever publicly humiliate your friend and extremely hurt the feelings of the guy you really like, just write a song and they’ll forgive you.
