speaking of vampirism ("wh- who was speaking about vamp--" doesn't matter, shhh)
I only just realized that Seeking Out Vampirism is quite the extreme method for Modern Dal/Damon to go to in order to kill his father. Like, there are other weapons available. You got knives of course, and guns exist in 1800. He could have used a flintlock rifle perhaps.
But he went with vampirism. In TES verse, his vampirism was not his choice, but in Modern verse, he deliberately sought it out.
Now, initially, his vampirism in Modern Verse is just because I wanted to keep his vampirism relatively constant in AUs at the time. I couldn't imagine him not as a vampire, but that changed eventually. Now I get to come up with a reason why he chose vampirism, of all things.
I suppose it could be a power fantasy thing. Being a vampire would eliminate most ways for his father to win a fight, especially since he didn't know what he was fighting against. Maybe Damon would've liked that power, knowing he couldn't lose anymore, and that fear he would instill in the one who terrorized him and his mother.
Not using a weapon means no murder weapon to be left behind or somehow traced to him. He wouldn't be in any danger of being caught easily, as it would still be a few decades before fingerprinting becomes widely used to identify people, let alone DNA testing.

"On the street where you live" - Vic Damone
1956 Music: Frederick Loewe; lyric: Alan Jay Learner
"Are there lilac trees In the heart of town? Can you hear a lark in any other part of town? Does enchantment pour Out of every door? No, it’s just on the street where you live."
By George, he's got it! I do believe he's got number 8 in Let's Do It, my personal fifty favourite singles from 1954-76.
Learner and Loewe's musical My Fair Lady was the toast of Broadway in 1956. Based on George Bernard Shaw's play Pygmalion, the musical tells of Henry Higgins and Eliza Doolittle, and the bet that Higgins can pass cockney sparra Eliza off as a duchess. While training to win the bet, Eliza captures the heart of Freddy Eynsford-Hill, and the posh young lad is head over heels in love at first sight.

"On the street where you live" is sung by Freddy, the most love-struck and giddy fool in the show. The song captures a headrush of emotions and hormones and wanting to be with your unrequited crush so badly. The song wasn't appreciated in previews, on the grounds that Freddy hadn't been properly introduced: this is why they do re-writes.
A top ten hit Stateside in 1956, and a number 1 on Britain in 1958 after the musical became the must-see show in the West End: it was the Hamilton or Wicked or Cats of its day. Julie Andrews and Rex Harrison transferred from Broadway in the lead roles, Freddy was played by Leonard Weir (father of Nick Weir, the sometime Catchphrase host. Can we imagine Stephen Mulhern being this giddy? Easily!)

Although John Michael King originated the stage role, it was Vic Damone who had the big hit single. Vic was an experienced actor and singer, though he failed to move with the times and never embraced rock 'n' roll.
In the grand parade of number 1 singles, it's the end of an era: musicals and theatre had been eclipsed by beat music. If I'm not mistaken, only three songs from current stage musicals have been to number 1 on GB since ("Don't cry for me Argentina" in 1977; "Any dream will do" in 1991; "No matter what" in 1998).

Vampiric Versatility
Damon is far from the most powerful kind of vampire. But what he lacks in strength and offensive abilities, he makes up for in speed and general versatility.
While he cannot stand in the sunlight forever, he can handle it longer than more powerful vampires.
His human form allows him to blend in to society much easier than more powerful vampires whose default forms have been altered by that power and/or cannot return to a human form.
He is unaffected by religious paraphernalia unlike more specialized vampires.
He is much faster and more agile than vampires who rely on brute strength.
He can change into many different forms, where some vampires are limited to only a few.
He can survive on blood from humans and animals, where some vampires must consume only human blood.

Saurnament Profiles: GeoGreymon [Digimon]
GeoGreymon is a Digimon, debuting (I think) with the Digimon Savers season of the Digimon anime (known as Digimon Data Squad in the dub) in 2006. There, it was the partner of the main character Masaru Daimon/Marcus Damon. Obviously, it's related to the regular Greymon that most people are more familiar with, but cooler. It is a Champion stage of Agumon, digivolving further into RizeGreymon, followed by ShineGreymon.
It's probably tempting to write it off immediately as a T-rex, but it and regular Greymon more closely resemble the Ceratosaurus, judging from the horns and non-pathetic arms! Ceratosaurus's name comes from the Greek 'keratos', meaning horn, and of course the suffix 'sauros', often translated as "lizard" but also more generally means "reptile".
Ceratosaurus, naturally, was known for its horns, one big one in the center of the nose area, and two on ridges above its eyes, just like Greymon and GeoGreymon. The Wikipedia article has more info, but it's actually not clear if the main horn was used for offense/defense, or just as a mating display.
It also had a row of osteoderms (basically just bony protrusions) going down its spine. Neither Greymon has these, but GeoGreymon does have some more ridges along the jaw! These were almost certainly not inspired by these osteoderms, but it's worth pointing out anyway.
As far as we know though, Ceratosaurus was incapable of suddenly changing forms and gaining a giant machine gun for an arm, along with mechanized jet propellers that enabled it to fly. But hey, we can't say for certain that it couldn't!

If Dal was a cat, what kind of cat would he be...?
A sleek lanky shorthair because he's a rogue-type? A luxuriously long-hair because of his, well, long hair that he's vain about? An active breed because he's a busybody who always needs work to do?
hmmm
#missy rambles#my oc#dal#damon rex#personally leaning towards one of those oriental shorthairs. long legged. graceful looking. thin looking#and when they get that dental issue of their teeth slipping down and it looks like their fangs are longer#except in Dal they'd just be naturally long bc vampire#and also bc he's a vampire he'd be cold. and you could hug him and warm him up#or torture him by putting kitty sweaters on him if you're close enough friends lmao#it won't really do anything for him since he doesn't produce body heat to be trapped by the sweater but. it'd be cute#i mean technically he could choose ANY kind of cat. mix it up sometimes. but i bet he picks favorites with his forms#and i think i answered my own question. but im still going to send the post and see what y'all think. for funsies
