Tumblr has a tag limit and it grates my nerves to no end to know that I can't ramble as much as I'd like to...

Stanley and the bad bitch he pulled by being a loser. Imagine having a hot babe deform reality just to be together with you because he sensed you were feeling lonely without him. [WHEN IS IT MY TURN?!]

It's funny because with the general vibe of their AU, it would make sense for him to show up in the most flashy but also unnerving way possible. The Narrator's [Black's] arrival has to grab people's eyes since attention and views are what he's all about.

I wasn't sure what type of characterization they had so I just played it safe and [tried to] draw how my characters would respond instead of blindly guessing how the others would talk or act around each other. [My Stanley is antisocial and an anxiety-ridden freak.]

Also, I've been wondering what their height differences actually were when I saw my Stanley have to look up at Marionette's Narrator [since this guy is pretty damn tall] so I did a bit of digging and this was what I found.

I had a lot of fun making this by the way. It's been a while since I've participated in any Reblog Chains that involved character interactions and making comics, so it's a real throwback to when I first started posting TSP art in 2023.

Stanley here is an absolute social shutoff teehee, but he does talk back when talked to. His responses usually leave no openings to continue the conversation though. He's the type of guy to stay on the corner and watch everyone else.

As for the Narrator [Black] he's a bit strange. He's proper in public, but he doesn't think the other people are special [or not as special as he is at least]. He just doesn't care to be honest, he keeps to himself [along with Stanley] and that's it. It's a miracle for Stanley to have even pulled somebody like Black considering their personalities are the type to clash with one another. [They love each other though, genuinely. Despite how deranged they can be towards each other sometimes, that development took a long time to be nurtured into something healthier for those two.]

Also, 4th wall breaking in action!!!!!!!!!!!

Black didn't want to interrupt this comic since it was made for Stanley but after the other three came in he lost reservations and came in as well.

as you can see seb takes me the longest LMAOO hes such a menace for me to draw still...and i dont even think seeing my process helps since its just so much trial and error and warping until it looks right BAHAHA (this is from like a month ago and i ALREADY think seb looks off here too 💀) but my process is super simple, i just colour and cell shade on multiply and then i add a grain texture on soft light 10% at the end. i dont rly do anything fancy for colouring, bc i used to over-render my art and make it really complicated, but now im a fan of just having it look kinda...flat? if that makes sense LOL. i like it aesthetically AND its also easier. OH also something i add to the end of almost all my pieces is this auto-action from clip studio assets which basically adjusts the hue/saturation/brightness. here's an example of what the original flat colours look like vs. when i add this filter:

even if you dont have clip studio the same effect could be achieved with just manually tweaking with the hue/saturation levels afterwards, but i like this filter just cuz its easy and makes the colours more how i like them HOPE THIS HELPS💖💖

Hey Hey! Sorry for the absences, if you've been keeping up with all the updates, you'll know that we've been pretty busy this year and haven't been able to write. o(*￣▽￣*)ブ Yeahhh, School's just been eating up me and Editor T's schedules. 😩🤧 We've tried finding a good schedule for Father R to write without him getting burnt out and for me and Henchman A to be available to edit, pre-read and add our authornotes, but it's been proving to be difficult. That's why we've just settled for the goal of getting at least 2-3 chapters posted per month. It's not as many as it used to be last year, but working on the weekends seem to be the only saving grace. (￣▽￣)" There's a break coming up for Thanksgiving, so we're going to double-timing that week to try and get things posted. I cannot assure anyone that we'll get a chapter posted, but we'll have definitely made progress. I've also made a bit of a routine when it comes to writing to avoid Writer's block, and I'm proud to say Chapter 61 of SSATW is about 78% ready for posting. RAD Chapter 4 is about 64% but that's only because I haven't figured out the skeletal structure of the chapter yet- ヾ(≧ ▽ ≦)ゝ Anyways, Now that Updates are out of the way, HAPPY FUCKING BIRTHDAY BIG GUY!!! 🥳🎉🎊🎂 Happy Birthday Father R, and thank you @thegenderfluidace for surprising him with this drawing this morning. How long have you had your writing Tumblr/Writeblr?

Since the beginning of the year, maybe? Sometime in February, I think.

What led you to create it?

I was feeling pretty lonely having no one to talk to about my writing. None of my real-life friends are writers and I'm really terrible at expressing my interests verbally, so I figured online might be the place to go. So far, I've been right!

What’s your favorite thing about the Writeblr community?

Oh, the people, for sure. It's incredibly rare that I come across anyone being less than supportive on here. No matter our skill level, I really feel like every writer on here has a sense of being in this shit together.

What’s one thing you’d like your mutuals to know about you?

Hmmm.... I'm pretty open about sharing things about myself, so idk if there's anything major I haven't touched on yet. I wake up at 4am every morning for work, so if you see me posting at an egregious time, that's why. Also, if you ever want martial arts tips for your fight scenes, I'm your gal!

Is there anything you’d like to see more of on your dash?

I love it when people make memes of their ocs. Makes me giggle every time.

What tips/advice do you have for someone who made a Writeblr today?

You gotta interact with people. I know it can be scary, but even a reblog with no tags can make another writer smile. Chances also are, if you leave a nice comment on someone's work, they might check you out and leave a nice comment on yours! A community isn't a community unless you go out and commune :)

Which Works-in-Progress (WIPs) or writing projects are you noodling about, lately?

Lately, I've been juggling writing my first draft of Mortal God book 3 (tentatively title being The Machinations of Machine and Man) and going over @kaylinalexanderbooks lovely comments on MG1. My ghost ship project is also on a low simmer in the back of my brain, but I'm trying to leave that until I'm done with MG3.

How long have you been working on them?

Good lord, I started MG1 about... almost two years ago now? Damn, it feels like it's been so much longer. But hey, three book drafts in two years ain't bad! Honor's Outcasts, which is largely written by now, I started about three years ago.

Do you remember what inspired them/what got you started?

The two main characters of MG started as a vague daydream, which then became two important dnd npcs along with MG's main villain. I ended up liking them all so much that I wrote a short story which became *drumroll* three entire books! A lot of my inspiration came from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and the Foundryside Trilogy of books. I can't think of anyone specifically who inspired the characters, except that Astra was originally based on the archetype of the silent wandering cowboy/samurai as seen in a lot of Kurosawa films and old westerns. For anyone familiar with her, uh, things changed quite a lot.

How much time, in your best estimation, do you spend thinking about them?

At least ten percent of my brain's storage is dedicated to my wips at all times. As for how often I'm actively thinking about them... it's also quite a lot.

When someone asks the dreaded, “What do you write about,” question, what do you usually say?

"Uh, fantasy stuff?" is my go-to.

What do you want to say (if it’s different from what you do say)?

I really wish I had the ability to explain my wips as succinctly with speech as I do with writing, but alas. I would want to give a nice, book jacket blurb that doesn't give away too much of the crazy shit.

Who’s the most unhinged?

Unhinged in terms of violence? Sepo for sure. Unhindered in terms of sheer chaos? I'm gonna go with Izjik and Djek as a duo. Between both of their high charismas and low intelligences, along with their combined expertise in fighting and creative uses of magic, they're unbeatable.

Who comes the most naturally for you to write?

Probably Izjik. I've been writing in her POV for the longest.

Do you ever cringe at them?

Sometimes yeah, when they do something real stupid. But, then again, I did make them that way.

How much control do you feel you have over your characters?

I think I know my characters really well and base my plot around their motives, so there really isn't a huge need for control.

What makes you want to follow another Writeblr account?

Probably creativity. I've read a looooot of fantasy/sci-fi, so if you're doing something I've never seen before, I'll probably give you a follow.

What makes you decide against following?

Any kind of hateful rhetoric or someone who doesn't want 18+ interaction. Other than that, I think it's important to follow people who write different genres or have different methods than me.

Do you interact with non-mutuals often?

I wouldn't say so. I get a little shy doing that.

Do your mutuals’ characters occupy space in your noodle?

The characters of @kaylinalexanderbooks @mk-writes-stuff and @somethingclevermahogony all have a little place in my brain. Favorites from each include Robbie and Akash (not to be separated), Narul and Bop (love me a good living weapon/teddybear of a dude team-up), and Nellie and Stellaris (their earnest kindness makes my heart happy). Haven't posted in 4 ever oops lol

Honestly I don't think I ever quit tumblr on purpose, I probably just lost interest and got busy at the same time.

A lot has changed since then and I don't know if I'm actually gonna use tumblr again. This might be nothing, a gasp in the void. Or maybe not, idk. It seems like a lot of old things are coming back lately, could be fun.

I mostly post on Instagram these days, @markshipstuff. My life has changed a lot, and is still changing. Right now I'm doing a full time art program and full time day job. Yes it's a lot, but I think it's paying off. I'm am looking forward to sleeping again.

My long term project, The Futuristica, is happening. I've been working on it for 13 years, but I finally got serious with this program and am doing everything I can to level up. I'm working on issue #1 of the comic, and it's gonna be cool AF.

I'm still learning a lot too, but I'm really excited to show the world what I've been building. It's a big story, and an even bigger dream. I'm worried about the world, my life, the future. I'm worried that this won't mean anything, that I'll never get the chance to put this story out, or that the world just won't care. I'm worried about AI and love and culture. But hey, so is everyone else. I'm still gonna do everything I can to make it happen, no matter what it takes.

My mentor told me, "this dies without you". Damn he's good.

Tumblr wasn't a safe place to begin with since anyone could scrape from the website regardless. The decisions they've made suck, but the only thing we can really do on any website is use the programs people have been creating to make sure the ai can't accurately steal the art. Like nightshade and/or glaze

I guess what my post was about, was that 10 years ago the only worry I had was people uploading my art on their own blogs without credit and sometimes even act like they did it. All I'm hearing about glaze and stuff is that you need a highend pc to run it and it's just a damn hustle honestly. I just want to draw, man. Share my art with people who are interested in it and, when I'm not completely exhausted by my dayjob and anxiety, offer commissions again. It's just all so damn depressing. Like I hate how people just have no respect for other peoples hard work and straight up try to steal someones skill to fabricate lookalikes for their own gain. And every fucking website is jumping onto the bandwagon and be like: Heck yeah! Another way to exploit people! I'm just trying to have a good time, which has been difficult for several years now. And this shit is just not helping. I know that it has never been truly better, but sometimes being oblivious is just better for ones mental health.

And I guess >I've always felt "safer" on this platform< has less to do with the actual privacy stuff and more with the fact that it's less overstimulating compared to twitter for example. It felt like it was cut out for me, for a long time. But now I guess it's just rotting away.

kipperlilly otome isekai au?? 👁️👁️👁️

Thank you so much for enabling me to talk about this more, anon!! I've briefly talked about this AU before, but a Lot has developed in the AU since then.

For those who aren't familiar with the genre, an otome isekai is a story where the protagonist is transported into the world of a romance novel/otome game. This setting is almost always a vague medieval fantasy with nobility, political intrigue, and a poorly explained magic system. And romance, of course.

Elevator pitch on why I think this sort of story is good for Kipperlilly: I fundamentally don't think she can 'win' in the world of Spyre. She has correctly identified that the world has protagonists and that she is not one of them, and I can't really imagine a 'happy ending' for her where the Goddess who infected her with rage is now being worshipped as a uwu sapphic icon and where all of the systems that failed her remains in place.

Getting isekai'd into another world lets her play by a new set of rules - and this time it's not the 'rule of funny'. She can strategize and politically outmaneuver her opponents in this world.

I also think this would force her to do some self-reflection on her previous life in Spyre, and make her realize the things she took for granted.

Also, I made up a love interest for her. I'm trying to unlearn my deep bashfulness about introducing OC x canon stuff but I like him a lot. Her name is Jae-shin and she's the number one wifeguy.

After Dying As A Background Villain, I Woke Up As The Main Character!

When Kipperlilly Copperkettle dies in a rage ritual, she expects she'll be sent straight to Hell. Instead, she wakes up in the body of Lilliana Argent - the main character of a romance fantasy novel! A romance fantasy novel… which she never read. With only her wits and the vague memories of what Oisin told her about the plot, will she be able to survive in this new world?

This post is already long enough, so I'll only elaborate on this if there's interest in the topic - but for those familiar with the genre, my use of the world "villain" over "villainess" was intentional here! The villainess is an archetype pretty central to OI, but I think Kipperlilly didn't meet the qualifications for that in FHJY.

So. Kipperlilly thinks she's in Hell at first. Duh. Where else would she be? It's not what she thought Hell would look like, but... this is just some sort of test. They're calling her 'Lilliana', but... that's just humans making fun of her name like they always do. Certainly not the worst thing she's been called recently.

But then they start talking about 'Duke Argent' coming by, and she realizes with horror what's happening. It's that damn romance novel Oisin had been reading.

The one he read because it reminded him of Adaine Abernant. Fuck her entire life.

Copy-pasting from her artfight bio, here's the basic rundown:

Lilliana Argent was the main character in a novel called "For My Uncertain Future."

This novel was read by Oisin Hakinvar - a friend of Kipperlilly Copperkettle - exclusively because the character of Lilliana reminded him of his crush. Because of this, he talked to her about the novel and the parallels between the two women. Kipperlilly, who fucking hated Oisin's crush, did not pay very close attention to these rambles. Oops...!

The second daughter of the Argent family. Her parents were cold and cruel aristocrats and her older sister much the same - leading to her having a rather unloving and turbulent childhood.

Despite this, she grew up to be a very self-possessed young woman. The kind of girl who would choose kindness, even when it was hard. She was also a bit sassy, but in that Disney princess sort of way where it's kind of toothless.

Her family was about to confirm her engagement to Marquess Benjamin Shimmerstream, who she had been informally promised to since her childhood. However, right before this engagement was to be finalized, she had a very public Revelation from the Goddess at her 16th birthday party. Due to this vision, she was whisked away to study as an oracle at a magic school in the capitol, and she was never officially engaged.

Don't worry too much about the magic and religion and worldbuilding of all this - it's all very undefined and vague, in classic Otome Isekai fashion.

While studying at this magic school, she has an academic rivalry with Earl Oliver Varhall.

Shortly after she turns 18, she graduates from the magic school, and must now figure out what she'll be be doing with her life.

This is the point in the story in which one Kipperlilly Copperkettle gets transmigrated into her body!

In the original novel, Lilliana is involved in a love triangle with Benjamin and Oliver, as well as having to deal with prophecies and other magical nonsense. But in this version of events...

Once she's isekai'd into this nonsense, she very quickly decides to go by the nickname of Lilly. It luckily fits with the name of Lilliana, and it allows her to keep some connection to her original identity.

Lilly - despite being in Lilliana's body - does not have magic oracle powers. Her soul is doomed not to be special, after all. So she has to steal information from government officials and do some dramatic cold-reading BS in order to keep up the illusion of having oracle powers. It's fun! It leads to Antics.

In her original life, she was a halfling - meaning she was 3'4". She's now 5'3". It takes her a while to get used to this new body, and leads to many scenes where she's clumsy in a way that seems to be very romance-coded. Like, she's stumbling into the Original Love Interests arms. And she has to stop herself from yelling about how angry this makes her that she can't move like she used to in this stupid tall body. She does not care about this romance. She cares that she looks like an IDIOT.

Eventually, she gets used to the new body, but she's never quite as dexterous as she used to be. She'll never fully be at peace with this, but she's moved on the best she can.

She feels... complicated about this whole situation. She's lost her chance at ever having revenge against her enemies: her death has lead to their vindication. She won't ever get to humiliate them. She won't ever show them that - just for once - the world doesn't always have to revolve around them and what they think is right. She won't ever make them pay

those familiar with FHJY and what this means in less vague terms: views expressed by lilly are not always in line with views of the creator. we do not endorse everything she says. her worldview is twisted and limited and that's what makes her interesting. she was literally right about some things tho.

On the other hand... this is a world where she can actually win. In her previous life, she was trying to run a political intrigue campaign in a world which operated on rule of funny. She literally could never win, because the narrative wouldn't have any space for that. But here...? Things operate on a logic which she can exploit. Things actually make sense.

So, over time, she manages to find enjoyment in this world. She'll never be happy about the way things ended in her original life... but she can't change that. So she's making the most of this life she has. She is going to tea parties and banquets and balls and she is absolutely WINNING at the information game. She becomes a force to be reckoned with in the political sphere, and is able to rely less upon her ""oracle visions"" and more upon her mere reputation.

Also, I mentioned a love interest...! Enter Jae-shin Kim.

Third child of a minor Baron. Even at a young age, he was exceptionally bright and studious.

At 8 years old, he was sent to serve as an advisor for Marquess Benjamin Shimmerstream, a boy around his own age.

At this point in his life, his role as an advisor was basically just him being a Legally Mandated Friend to the well-meaning but idiotic Benjamin. As he grows older, his role involves more clerical work, political maneuvering, and general strategic advice.

Benjamin is wildly in love with Duchess Lilliana Argent - a girl who he is informally engaged to. Lilliana, for her part, doesn't really care for him romantically, but does consider him to be a dear friend. She doesn't get to go out much, so she treasures any interaction she's allowed to have with the outside world.

As Benjamin's advisor, it's up to Jae-shin to... well... actually remember shit about Lilliana. Benjamin is in love with her, yes, but he's also an idiot and a bit self-absorbed, and can fail to take into account other people's desires. So it's up to Jae-shin to remind him that the Duchess despises lemon tarts and she enjoys fantasy novels and so on and so forth.

In the original novel, the fact that Jae-shin has to handle all of this stuff is played up for comedy. Standard hypercompetent secretary/maid/butler/etc trope. Benjamin abandons his duties to go on a date with Lilliana and Jae-shin has to redo his entire schedule. He's a fan favorite background character, but he's never going to be anything more then that.

When she's 14 she has the "I'm probably genderfluid but I have a job so idrc about that rn" realization.  She just... never really thinks it's something she could explore or pursue any further. So she decides to leave it at "somedays I'm a girl, but I don't really need to tell anybody that".

When Lilliana - now going by the nickname of "Lilly" - returns from her schooling, there's... a lot different about her. And most people don't seem bothered by that. She spent 2 years away from home! She's gotten oracle powers now! Of course she's changed!

Jae-shin... is not so convinced. Because sure, a lot of her changes can be explained away as a natural progression of personality. But there are so many little inconsistencies. She happily eats lemon tarts and she reads mystery novels and she's clumsier and she's tougher and she's -

She's just not Lilliana Argent.

He doesn't hate her. In fact, he finds Lilly to be a far more interesting person then Lilliana. But it is odd.

Lilly offers him a position as an advisor to the Argent Duchy, seeing that his talents are wasted in his current position. And Jae-shin decides to accept the position. But not without first asking who, exactly, his employer is.

She scoffs. "Myself, of course."

"My lady, I fear you misunderstand. I am asking who you are. For I am certain that you are not Lilliana Argent."

Reluctantly, she explains her situation to him. He promises complete discretion in this matter, and happily joins her as an advisor.

she was a faithful advisor to benjamin for all these years and made the one selfish decision to follow lilly, knowing how much it'd hurt him. augh.

He's also a huge asset in her 'scamming people into thinking she has oracle powers' schemes.

He falls in love with her extremely quickly. His entire character was constructed to be a Wifeguy (and occasional wifegirl), after all. He keeps this matter to himself, feeling that the best thing he can do with this love is devote himself to her without any expectations of reciprocation.

He loves a great deal of things about her, but her ruthlessness is his favorite trait ^-^ he can be a bit ruthless himself, and adores that efficiency and clarity of purpose.

In one of the occasions in which Lilly confides to Jae-shin about her past life, she mentions that she was deeply in love with her best friend Lucy. "she's bisexual i didn't know that dot jpeg", and they talk a bit about how gender and sexuality were viewed in her home world.

After this conversation, Jae-shin decides to tell Lilly about her being genderfluid. Lilly responds to this with support and by ordering numerous fancy dresses for Jae-shin. Jae-shin isn't actually a huge fan of dresses, but it's the thought that counts...!

After 3 years of working together, Lilly starts to fall head over heels for him. It's a he fell first, she fell harder sort of deal.

now he happily supports his cool and sometimes unethical wife ^_^

Anyway this is what it's been like inside of my brain for the past few months. So whenever I see a bad post about KLCK or I'm reminded of the fact she was sentenced to eternal damnation because "she asked for it", I'm like wow that's wild. No, that's not from 1966 dumbass

Long post ahead, you've been warned.

I had the most recent misfortune of coming across a yt short about how artists/culture take inspiration from art movements/culture of the past. Pretty normal stuff we've been doing that crap since the Renaissance at least. The short (with 1 million views, mind) used the example of Art Nouveau being popular in the Psychedelia movement in the 60s/70s.

Art Nouveau was my bread and butter as a teen; then when I went to study Graphic Design, I adored looking at the design work of the music industry, Psychedelia included. So, when this man on a green screen is pointing his fingies at a poster and going "and THIS was a poster Pink Floyd used in the 60s!!" and it's this:

Yeah, this doesn't look like a '66 poster to me. It's close! We have the garish hot pinks and greens and swirly typeface, but everything else? Something was off, and I was going to spend my morning figuring out why (it's my day off, I can do that).

The Design First thing that tipped my off was the colours, too damn many. A lot of these posters done were done using silkscreen, and let me tell you screen printing ink is not cheap. Colours this complex and varied weren't that common on posters like this. It'd a max of 4 colours, usually saturated enough to make your eyes bleed. Here's an eg from the same year the Pink Floyd concert "took place":

You might also notice the absolute wall of text on both sides of the nude lady. Because, y'know, this was first and foremost a poster to tell you about a concert going on, the text needs to be there. Having the text smooshed in the corner (where it's barely readable due to the black colouring) gives me, how you say, the ick.

The Pink Floyd Now, enough about the design, we got to talk about the big thing.

Pink Floyd never played a concert on the 15th of March 1966. First off, it were a real concert, where's the other bands playing on the poster? Pink Floyd are good, but they would need someone else to warm up the crowd, especially for 5-hour performance.

So using my large brain to "google Pink Floyd dates" I found a few fan sites that recorded basically every performance they did. The band isn't exactly unknown and unloved, so these are easy to find stubs and posters to cross-reference dates. Even so, no such dates for 15th March '66.

Next we have something that would be a tip off for a knowledgable fan that this wasn't made in '66. Pink Floyd were "The Pink Floyd" until they dropped the "The" in late '66.

Unless the maker of the poster had to pay by the letter; this is all leading to a conclusion of work being made many decades later as to commemorate the band, the artist using a fake date for one reason or another.

But WHO is the artist?

The Artist If you try to reverse search this poster, you will have the ever wonderful joy of prints and posters that a shitty site is trying to sell you (most likely without any money going to the og artist). I only managed to find the artists name due to reddit comment left on a post where op had made the same assumption as the yt short man. Many thanks to The-Beer-Baron on reddit for that. The artist, my dear friends, is Bob Masse. His art spans back to the 60s psychedelia culture, all of which is archived in a lovely web 1.0 site.

It seems that he mainly does commemorative work/posters for bands, leaning more into Art Neauvou and Arts and Crafts (it's an art movement look it up) than his Psychedelic roots. I wasn't able to find the exact date of the Floyd Piece, but it does seem to appear in a '06 calendar, so we can safely say this is not an original 1966 Pink Floyd concert poster, of which any evidence of said concert is lost to time.

The Reason I Spent My Morning Doing This If you've been on the internet long enough, you know that ppl will spout incorrect facts bc they heard someone with a lot of confidence say it. I've been on Tumblr a while, I lived through Alexandrea's Genesis and users going "No but really-". In this case, it was a tiktoker with a 1.1 mill viewed YouTube short who saw a jpg and didn't dig any deeper.

I couldn't find who the artist was, because google showed me nothing but art prints claiming it was a real poster; or small/dead reddit posts where op repeated that false fact, and MAYBE a commenter went "hey this doesn't line up". As an artist, that would piss me off to no end.

Sure, it's small and not super harmful, but small incorrect facts like these can build up over time and if we don't check them out, we're more susceptible to bigger fibs.

This is going to end up really sappy but. I think just.. Everyone I've encountered in my life? Even if they weren't particularly into art or I've lost contact with them. They've taught me to let loose and be myself.

They've shown me love in ways I didn't know and I've slowly grown more comfortable with myself-- art style wise, particularly. (One of my friends years ago said my aphantasia added a particular flair to my art, and I think about that all the time.)

But when it comes to specific people, I think I have a hard time listing. I'm bad at being open and sappy but!! But!

I've been enjoying Cheston's content for quite a while and he's just been a constant inspiration throughout throughout the years. His animation and art style and literally everything. August Update!

Salutations, friends, enemies, and lovers!

I've been busily chipping away at Ghost Bricks, and by busily chipping away, I mean it's done! Sorta! You can't read it yet, but it's been written, rewritten, lovingly combed over half a dozen times, and I've only ripped out most of my hair over it!

I've also been wrangling my long-time fear of being "cringe" or whatever, which I go through painstakingly in this post. To sum it up, I've accepted that this book is about my blorbos, and that's not just okay, it's the whole point!

WIP Tagging Game !

I got tagged by @allmightskitten and I had to double-check my notification to make sure I didn't read wrong HAHA. This is going to expose me but this is gonna be fun to do. Fingerscrossed I'll finish them all at some point, I'm a little bit busy with comms and con prep for February but, I'll make time! Rules: make a new post with the names of all the files in your wip folders, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. People send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, then post a little snipper or tell them something about it!

Ok just a disclaimer, I don't actually write that much WIPs because I like to finish smth before starting a new one, and I'll only include One Piece fics because that's all I have right now. There will also be selfship fic on here, and because I do not have the same amount of writer oomfs on tumblr here (as you can probably tell), I will only tag the ones I know!

Jealousy - General, Shanks/my sona I started selfshipping with Shanks, so I'm kind of clowning myself here. The story is pretty self-explanatory from the title, and the setting is obviously in the One Piece world. My sona gets jealous over Shanks getting attention from the girls, Benn swoops in and takes those girls off of Shanks. In my interpertrations and headcanons, Shanks don't exactly flirt back with those girl or entertain their flirtations because he's not Benn Beckman (LOL). I kind of end up not liking this one because it feels kind of weird and the story derailed into something that I don't like. I've decided to drop this WIP because of that reason.

Stress Relief - Mature, Building Snake/Benn Beckman Surprise! I got into this ship because of an artist on Pixiv, and ever since then I've not been the same. I have already posted one fic of this ship, and this WIP has been in my docs for a long while now. It's basically just Snake getting so damn stressed out, and having no outlet for that stress. This fic is sort of a continuation from my first SnakeBenn fic where Snake took Benn's ass virginity LOL. Turns out there is more than just a 'second time' for their encounter, and Benn finds himself to be rather into what Snake does to him. Given the height and size gaps between them, I get to play around quite a lot with this pair, as you can probably imagine.

akataka again - Rating undecided, currently M, Shanks/Mihawk I've forgotten to continue this fic from early November omfg. Anyway, I've got a AkaTaka series going on that I've yet gotten the chance to continue. This one involves the pair spending time in Mihawk's bed in Kuraigana Island. Shanks is trying to get Mihawk's attention while the latter is reading an erotica novel for the plot. Shanks is mildly surprised to see Mihawk reading such novel, and asks if he doesn't get aroused by the description, HAHA. I think this one's just going to be a little silly, but I'd be happy if anyone wants to express their curiosity over this one.

Untilted Work - G, Sir Crocodile/My Friend (modern AU!) OK So this one's a gift for my friend because she's a wonderful person, and I've decided to not take this as a commission, but a gift to her. I can't technically spill the whole plot--but I'll just write this down as what she wants the plot to be about. My friend in this fic is an art dealer/curator. She deals with being the middle person when it comes to selling art (be it paintings, statues and whatnot). She attends a connection event held at the Louvre, organised by Doflamingo, and she meets Sir Crocodile there for the first time! It's currently down to 1.7k words and I'm planning on writing more. I'm having a whole lot of fun doing Modern AU for One Piece fics honestly, they're so fun.

That's pretty much all of the fics that I have right now! Another one is a commission and I definitely can't post it here lol. i miss more open community (aka what would've been 3rd spaces for fandoms, like the old forums e.g) of fandom. where artistic freedom isn't under attack (internally nor externally). because it still happens. i've been on tumblr since the 2010s, i've experienced the change myself too. where one is expected to have an internal police officer policing art. it sucks out all the joy and community of it, if you can't trust your own fandom even. and what makes it worse?? how i feel authors are pushed to be obsessed about stats about our fanfics. its for a reason i rarely post any; unless its a huge milestone. because i know the feeling when a fellow author only ever talks about stats and if they aren't up to their expectations, they'll literally rewrite their story until the audience is acceptable. and what i notice about that attitude - those writers long lost the passion and happiness for writing. forgetting what their own story was even supposed to tell in the first place. their story. not the audiences telling them whats acceptable to write in the first place. i've warned this trend starting out on fanfic spaces years ago. it still makes me angry when trad/indie tries to use content warnings or other fanfic things, without understand why it exists. if i see a content and/or trigger warning in a trad/indie book, i'll not buy it. they've no idea what they're walking into. i write both fanfics and OG fics, so i can understand the nuances. but damn, the literature world can be frustrating sometimes. what i appreciate however, not matter how many times writer dramas has attempted to kill my will to write, it never has. i tend to go on hiatuses here and there, but i don't quit. even if i wanted to, i couldn't, because i love it that as much. i'll always return, as titantic drifting toward a shore that never arrived. and if that motivates a future fanfic reader to write their own fanfics without fear, then i've done my part. as the fanfic writers that inspired me when i started out with my first fanfic (incarnation) at 17.

this is a great question with a long answer! also tumblr deleted my first answer to this because it's a shit. also this is all lilac speaking

so way back years ago aru wrote a silly little crack fic. i was immensly entertained by this and was like you should post it online. so i made an ao3 acc called watery_meln_baller bc "our fics are so bad they make you want to water melon ball your eyes out". we used to have a whole taglline about using the kudos as a dislike button it was great. over time aru wroye a few more crack fics and i would post them for aru.

then i decided to take a crack (ha) at writing crack fic and was nervous about it, and since th waterymelonballer acc was for crack fics i just uploaded it on there instead of making my own. i had never written fic before and then it blew up and i was like oh damn. im famous. and then i started getting FANART for the fic and people were like do you have a tumblr so i can tag you?? and i was like okay. time to make a tumblr! i did not excpect to actually use it for anything besides being a place where i could post updates and behind the scenes stuff for fanfics

after identity fraud i went back to barely using the account. around the same time aru got into like, danny phantom n shit and then they started using the account a bunch. and began posting podfics, and non-crack fics. so aru used the tumblr for a while, and then they abandoded around the same time i started getting into toh and writing WAB. then i took over the account, started posting shit, and now i've been using it conistsently ever since! oops, sorry aru. ive got a whole circle of mutuals its a great time we are all buddies. aru will pop on here and post occasionally its great. tthere was a bit of time where we weren't talking as much bc of life but now we're back to regular texting and being buddies. but tbh if i had to share a tumblr account with anyone, aru would be the best :]

Technicolor Familiar Watches Too Many Conrad Veidt Movies Part 1 of ?

Apropos of nothing, I find myself wading around waist deep in Conrad Veidt's filmography, at least the titles I can easily find online.

I've been writing down my mostly brief impressions after each movie, mainly for my own entertainment since I know exactly zero other people who would care lol. I actually created a Mastodon account especially for this purpose, since my primary socials aren't really for this sort of thing. But the character limit on Mastodon is seriously cramping my style, so I'm going to be annoying about this on Tumblr, my self-imposed blog expectations be damned.

I'm not doing plot summaries, but there are spoilers. I'm not watching these movies in any particular order other than what I'm in the mood for on any given day. I'm half trying to keep the thirst levels to a minimum, but no promises; all bets were off after watching A Woman's Face. And tbh, this whole thing has turned into an Emotional Support / Coping Mechanism / Escapism Tactic because hoo boy is my brain bad these days. But be forewarned, I'm not a writer, I'm not a film critic. I just like movies and turns out I like Conrad Veidt a lot too. I'd probably have more and better things to say about a lot of these upon a second or third watch.

So as of late November, I'm 15 films deep with a lot more to go. I'm thinking about splitting this up into multiple posts, maybe like 5ish films/post. Originally I was going to see how many of these movies can I watch before the end of 2023. But I'm just going to keep going until I run out of available titles or I get sick of Connie's face (unlikely).

The Man Who Laughs, 1928 Dir. Paul Leni ⭐4.5/5 Watched mid-Oct, Archive.org Nothing could have prepared me for this. Of course I was aware of TMWL, but more vaguely than I guess I realized. It's really ahead of its time. The production quality is astounding, it's an absolutely beautiful film. The whole cast is pretty great, too. The Duchess? Total smoke show. Homo the Dog? Queer icon. And Connie really swings for the fences emotionally and physically as Gwynplaine. Bear in mind, this is literally only the third Conrad Veidt movie I've ever seen (other than the basic, intro level Cabinet of Dr Caligari and Casablanca), so I was really floored by what he's able to do in this role with the use of really only half his face. There are several wonderfully haunting and heartbreaking visuals and moments throughout the nearly 2 hour runtime that will stay with me long after watching. Half a star got knocked off because the score was a little bombastic and there were one too many clowns for me personally. But those are small complaints for what may otherwise be a pretty perfect film.

Unheimliche Geschichten (Eerie Tales), 1919 Dir. Richard Oswald ⭐3/5 Watched mid-Oct, Archive.org A romp. The version I watched had no soundtrack at all, making for a totally silent viewing experience. The vignette structure and old school effects are fun. I enjoyed seeing Anita Berber in action although maybe I was expecting more because of all the hype surrounding her/her image. But Connie, Anita, and Reinhold Schünzel seem like they had a good time working on this project. "The Black Cat" and "The Suicide Club" were my favorite sections (and I actually watched this when I was in the middle of Netflix's The Fall of the House of Usher, so yay for extra Poe content in the spookiest month). As for Connie Content, what can I say, he's stunning.

The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari, 1920 Dir. Robert Wiene ⭐3.5/5 Watched Oct 17, Archive.org I went hard with the silent era when I started this journey. Caligari was my intro to Conrad Veidt almost 15 years ago, and as a lapsed goth art student, I remember being bewitched by his strange and off-putting presence on screen. My rating for this one is kind of low compared to how undoubtedly iconic and important of a film it is. It could have been my mood but upon rewatching, but the story fell a little flat for me. I did like the updated score in the version I watched, and I would love to see this one on the big screen maybe with a live orchestra some day.

Orlacs Hände (The Hands of Orlac), 1924 Dir. Robert Wiene ⭐4/5 Watched Oct 17, Archive.org Loved. It's so horny and bizarre (the scene with the maid crawling on the floor? same, girl, same). And visually the most pre-David Lynch Lynchian-looking movie I've ever seen. The shots that linger on highly stylized, cavernous, empty rooms before a character enters? So David Lynch. I'm also a big fan of the psychological body horror and crime thriller genre mashup. It's got twists, it's got turns. Conrad Veidt's your man if you ever needed a Hand Actor. Like the handsiest Hand Actor who ever had a pair of hands. Someone who could really work those mitts.

A Woman's Face, 1941 Dir. George Cukor ⭐4.5/5 Watched Oct 18, Vudu & TCM Jumping way forward in Connie's career. This movie did things to me. This was, I think, the point of no return. It's extremely underrated, I'm legitimately surprised I'd not heard of it before diving down this rabbit hole. That said, it is strange and pretty spicy for a Hays Code era picture. It's so good, I actually watched it twice (it aired on TCM as a part of their creepy cinema series). Visually beautiful and narratively interesting, if maybe a little long despite the rushed ending. Shout out to Joan Crawford for giving what's probably the best performance of hers, at least that I've seen (Mildred Pierce who?). And then there's nasty, nasty Conrad Veidt. He very nearly steals the movie from Joan, I couldn’t take my eyes off him. He's beautiful, he's TALL, he's scary. Genuinely shocked he doesn't have second billing. But what else can I say about his Torsten Barring that hasn't already been said more eloquently by others? It's such a great character, and I believe he said it was one of his favorites during his entire 100+ film career. A Woman's Face is the only title on this list so far where immediately after watching I wanted to buy the dvd. Ugh, we deserved several more decades of Connie in roles like this.

I'll probably post the next few one day soon, where I finally get into some titles from the 1930s.
