Tumblr has a tag limit and it grates my nerves to no end to know that I can't ramble as much as I'd like to...

Stanley and the bad bitch he pulled by being a loser. Imagine having a hot babe deform reality just to be together with you because he sensed you were feeling lonely without him. [WHEN IS IT MY TURN?!]

It's funny because with the general vibe of their AU, it would make sense for him to show up in the most flashy but also unnerving way possible. The Narrator's [Black's] arrival has to grab people's eyes since attention and views are what he's all about.

I wasn't sure what type of characterization they had so I just played it safe and [tried to] draw how my characters would respond instead of blindly guessing how the others would talk or act around each other. [My Stanley is antisocial and an anxiety-ridden freak.]

Also, I've been wondering what their height differences actually were when I saw my Stanley have to look up at Marionette's Narrator [since this guy is pretty damn tall] so I did a bit of digging and this was what I found.

I had a lot of fun making this by the way. It's been a while since I've participated in any Reblog Chains that involved character interactions and making comics, so it's a real throwback to when I first started posting TSP art in 2023.

Stanley here is an absolute social shutoff teehee, but he does talk back when talked to. His responses usually leave no openings to continue the conversation though. He's the type of guy to stay on the corner and watch everyone else.

As for the Narrator [Black] he's a bit strange. He's proper in public, but he doesn't think the other people are special [or not as special as he is at least]. He just doesn't care to be honest, he keeps to himself [along with Stanley] and that's it. It's a miracle for Stanley to have even pulled somebody like Black considering their personalities are the type to clash with one another. [They love each other though, genuinely. Despite how deranged they can be towards each other sometimes, that development took a long time to be nurtured into something healthier for those two.]

Also, 4th wall breaking in action!!!!!!!!!!!

Black didn't want to interrupt this comic since it was made for Stanley but after the other three came in he lost reservations and came in as well.

as you can see seb takes me the longest LMAOO hes such a menace for me to draw still...and i dont even think seeing my process helps since its just so much trial and error and warping until it looks right BAHAHA (this is from like a month ago and i ALREADY think seb looks off here too 💀) but my process is super simple, i just colour and cell shade on multiply and then i add a grain texture on soft light 10% at the end. i dont rly do anything fancy for colouring, bc i used to over-render my art and make it really complicated, but now im a fan of just having it look kinda...flat? if that makes sense LOL. i like it aesthetically AND its also easier. OH also something i add to the end of almost all my pieces is this auto-action from clip studio assets which basically adjusts the hue/saturation/brightness. here's an example of what the original flat colours look like vs. when i add this filter:

even if you dont have clip studio the same effect could be achieved with just manually tweaking with the hue/saturation levels afterwards, but i like this filter just cuz its easy and makes the colours more how i like them HOPE THIS HELPS💖💖

How long have you had your writing Tumblr/Writeblr?

Since the beginning of the year, maybe? Sometime in February, I think.

What led you to create it?

I was feeling pretty lonely having no one to talk to about my writing. None of my real-life friends are writers and I'm really terrible at expressing my interests verbally, so I figured online might be the place to go. So far, I've been right!

What’s your favorite thing about the Writeblr community?

Oh, the people, for sure. It's incredibly rare that I come across anyone being less than supportive on here. No matter our skill level, I really feel like every writer on here has a sense of being in this shit together.

What’s one thing you’d like your mutuals to know about you?

Hmmm.... I'm pretty open about sharing things about myself, so idk if there's anything major I haven't touched on yet. I wake up at 4am every morning for work, so if you see me posting at an egregious time, that's why. Also, if you ever want martial arts tips for your fight scenes, I'm your gal!

Is there anything you’d like to see more of on your dash?

I love it when people make memes of their ocs. Makes me giggle every time.

What tips/advice do you have for someone who made a Writeblr today?

You gotta interact with people. I know it can be scary, but even a reblog with no tags can make another writer smile. Chances also are, if you leave a nice comment on someone's work, they might check you out and leave a nice comment on yours! A community isn't a community unless you go out and commune :)

Which Works-in-Progress (WIPs) or writing projects are you noodling about, lately?

Lately, I've been juggling writing my first draft of Mortal God book 3 (tentatively title being The Machinations of Machine and Man) and going over @kaylinalexanderbooks lovely comments on MG1. My ghost ship project is also on a low simmer in the back of my brain, but I'm trying to leave that until I'm done with MG3.

How long have you been working on them?

Good lord, I started MG1 about... almost two years ago now? Damn, it feels like it's been so much longer. But hey, three book drafts in two years ain't bad! Honor's Outcasts, which is largely written by now, I started about three years ago.

Do you remember what inspired them/what got you started?

The two main characters of MG started as a vague daydream, which then became two important dnd npcs along with MG's main villain. I ended up liking them all so much that I wrote a short story which became *drumroll* three entire books! A lot of my inspiration came from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and the Foundryside Trilogy of books. I can't think of anyone specifically who inspired the characters, except that Astra was originally based on the archetype of the silent wandering cowboy/samurai as seen in a lot of Kurosawa films and old westerns. For anyone familiar with her, uh, things changed quite a lot.

How much time, in your best estimation, do you spend thinking about them?

At least ten percent of my brain's storage is dedicated to my wips at all times. As for how often I'm actively thinking about them... it's also quite a lot.

When someone asks the dreaded, “What do you write about,” question, what do you usually say?

"Uh, fantasy stuff?" is my go-to.

What do you want to say (if it’s different from what you do say)?

I really wish I had the ability to explain my wips as succinctly with speech as I do with writing, but alas. I would want to give a nice, book jacket blurb that doesn't give away too much of the crazy shit.

Who’s the most unhinged?

Unhinged in terms of violence? Sepo for sure. Unhindered in terms of sheer chaos? I'm gonna go with Izjik and Djek as a duo. Between both of their high charismas and low intelligences, along with their combined expertise in fighting and creative uses of magic, they're unbeatable.

Who comes the most naturally for you to write?

Probably Izjik. I've been writing in her POV for the longest.

Do you ever cringe at them?

Sometimes yeah, when they do something real stupid. But, then again, I did make them that way.

How much control do you feel you have over your characters?

I think I know my characters really well and base my plot around their motives, so there really isn't a huge need for control.

Do you enjoy people asking questions about your characters?

What makes you want to follow another Writeblr account?

Probably creativity. I've read a looooot of fantasy/sci-fi, so if you're doing something I've never seen before, I'll probably give you a follow.

What makes you decide against following?

Any kind of hateful rhetoric or someone who doesn't want 18+ interaction. Other than that, I think it's important to follow people who write different genres or have different methods than me.

Do you interact with non-mutuals often?

I wouldn't say so. I get a little shy doing that.

Do your mutuals’ characters occupy space in your noodle?

The characters of @kaylinalexanderbooks @mk-writes-stuff and @somethingclevermahogony all have a little place in my brain. Favorites from each include Robbie and Akash (not to be separated), Narul and Bop (love me a good living weapon/teddybear of a dude team-up), and Nellie and Stellaris (their earnest kindness makes my heart happy). Tumblr wasn't a safe place to begin with since anyone could scrape from the website regardless. The decisions they've made suck, but the only thing we can really do on any website is use the programs people have been creating to make sure the ai can't accurately steal the art. Like nightshade and/or glaze

I guess what my post was about, was that 10 years ago the only worry I had was people uploading my art on their own blogs without credit and sometimes even act like they did it. All I'm hearing about glaze and stuff is that you need a highend pc to run it and it's just a damn hustle honestly. I just want to draw, man. Share my art with people who are interested in it and, when I'm not completely exhausted by my dayjob and anxiety, offer commissions again. It's just all so damn depressing. Like I hate how people just have no respect for other peoples hard work and straight up try to steal someones skill to fabricate lookalikes for their own gain. And every fucking website is jumping onto the bandwagon and be like: Heck yeah! Another way to exploit people! I'm just trying to have a good time, which has been difficult for several years now. And this shit is just not helping. I know that it has never been truly better, but sometimes being oblivious is just better for ones mental health.

And I guess >I've always felt "safer" on this platform< has less to do with the actual privacy stuff and more with the fact that it's less overstimulating compared to twitter for example. It felt like it was cut out for me, for a long time. But now I guess it's just rotting away.

This is going to end up really sappy but. I think just.. Everyone I've encountered in my life? Even if they weren't particularly into art or I've lost contact with them. They've taught me to let loose and be myself.

They've shown me love in ways I didn't know and I've slowly grown more comfortable with myself-- art style wise, particularly. (One of my friends years ago said my aphantasia added a particular flair to my art, and I think about that all the time.)

But when it comes to specific people, I think I have a hard time listing. I'm bad at being open and sappy but!! But!

August Update!

Salutations, friends, enemies, and lovers!

I've been busily chipping away at Ghost Bricks, and by busily chipping away, I mean it's done! Sorta! You can't read it yet, but it's been written, rewritten, lovingly combed over half a dozen times, and I've only ripped out most of my hair over it!

I've also been wrangling my long-time fear of being "cringe" or whatever, which I go through painstakingly in this post. To sum it up, I've accepted that this book is about my blorbos, and that's not just okay, it's the whole point!

wip update

since I have a good number of actively-posting WIPs that some lovely people have been very kind about and invested in (and which I am very slow in updating), I figured it might be only polite to post a little update on where those are.

the melting press of the sun (dreamling) - Never intended this as a longfic, there may or may not be more than the 2 chapters it has now. I have a bit more written but it's disjointed and incomplete. I intentionally didn't leave any brutal cliffhangers on what I did post for this reason. We'll see if that one comes back.

Deja vu, Deja connu (dreamling) - The slowness in updating probably belies how deeply emotionally invested I actually am in this fic. Chapter three is just a major challenge--it's very long, covers a lot, has lots of fluff in the first part (fluff is kinda my Achilles heel, though not quite as much as wedding scenes, which this chapter also has) and a lot of heavy content later. But I have the whole fic outlined, a bunch of chapter 4 and 5 written in advance, and I'm super excited about the stuff that comes later, so it will definitely be finished, just... slowly. At least for this chapter.

In Waking Dreams (dreamling) - My current priority for an update. Chapter 4 just hit 10k and will probably hit 15k before its done (god help me), and I feel somewhat obliged to finish chapter 5 as well so I can post them in quick succession. Chapter 4 necessarily ends on a cliffhanger as it catches up to the events of chapter 3, but I feel bad about two cliffhangers in a row. But that one soon, I hope. (chapter 5 has a lot of the juiciest, long awaited scenes promised by the fic's premise, so I hope you will like that one when it's finally done 😅)

IRL (malec) - Fic that I have a tendency to get stuck on for 15 months, then write a ton of all at once, repeat. But I actually picked it up again the other day for the first time in ages, and I think I know all of the events of the chapter now, so who knows! Maybe I'll actually manage an update!

Subject: I Love You (malec) - Fic that I shamefully left with ONE CHAPTER remaining for a full year now. Honestly not sure why. Someday I will pick it up tho, I swear to god, or maybe I'll just cut the chapter short and make it an epilogue. (Actually maybe I do know why. It's another damn proposal/wedding scene. My absolute weakness and failure, I should stop writing them entirely)

mind & heart, body & soul (malec) - This fic haunts me, it follows me around 24/7 like a vengeful spirit that can't find rest. I can't wrangle it back into making any sense in my head, but for the sake of both my own sanity and the story's frankly frightening number of readers (I love you but you scare me), I've been trying to do one final chapter to offer some kind of wrap-up. Hopefully I can manage it.

Leviathan (malec) - My long held passion project that I have, in classic form, not touched in months. In fact I've been stuck on the same chapter I'm on now since probably 2020, when I first started writing the fic. This particular middle part of the fic is just vexing me to no end. At some point, I will decide on a course of action, inevitably flawed, and just power through that chapter (I say, for the 2nd year in a row). Why did I give this story two big villains again? Or think having a whole separate story arc in the middle of the fic was a good idea? Ah well.

in the palm of your hand (malec) - The one and only multichapter I finally caved and marked abandoned. I learnt my lesson with this fic about letting a oneshot expand into a completely unplanned longer fic. Boy did I...

this is a great question with a long answer! also tumblr deleted my first answer to this because it's a shit. also this is all lilac speaking

so way back years ago aru wrote a silly little crack fic. i was immensly entertained by this and was like you should post it online. so i made an ao3 acc called watery_meln_baller bc "our fics are so bad they make you want to water melon ball your eyes out". we used to have a whole taglline about using the kudos as a dislike button it was great. over time aru wroye a few more crack fics and i would post them for aru.

then i decided to take a crack (ha) at writing crack fic and was nervous about it, and since th waterymelonballer acc was for crack fics i just uploaded it on there instead of making my own. i had never written fic before and then it blew up and i was like oh damn. im famous. and then i started getting FANART for the fic and people were like do you have a tumblr so i can tag you?? and i was like okay. time to make a tumblr! i did not excpect to actually use it for anything besides being a place where i could post updates and behind the scenes stuff for fanfics

after identity fraud i went back to barely using the account. around the same time aru got into like, danny phantom n shit and then they started using the account a bunch. and began posting podfics, and non-crack fics. so aru used the tumblr for a while, and then they abandoded around the same time i started getting into toh and writing WAB. then i took over the account, started posting shit, and now i've been using it conistsently ever since! oops, sorry aru. ive got a whole circle of mutuals its a great time we are all buddies. aru will pop on here and post occasionally its great. tthere was a bit of time where we weren't talking as much bc of life but now we're back to regular texting and being buddies. but tbh if i had to share a tumblr account with anyone, aru would be the best :]

Technicolor Familiar Watches Too Many Conrad Veidt Movies Part 1 of ?

Apropos of nothing, I find myself wading around waist deep in Conrad Veidt's filmography, at least the titles I can easily find online.

I've been writing down my mostly brief impressions after each movie, mainly for my own entertainment since I know exactly zero other people who would care lol. I actually created a Mastodon account especially for this purpose, since my primary socials aren't really for this sort of thing. But the character limit on Mastodon is seriously cramping my style, so I'm going to be annoying about this on Tumblr, my self-imposed blog expectations be damned.

I'm not doing plot summaries, but there are spoilers. I'm not watching these movies in any particular order other than what I'm in the mood for on any given day. I'm half trying to keep the thirst levels to a minimum, but no promises; all bets were off after watching A Woman's Face. And tbh, this whole thing has turned into an Emotional Support / Coping Mechanism / Escapism Tactic because hoo boy is my brain bad these days. But be forewarned, I'm not a writer, I'm not a film critic. I just like movies and turns out I like Conrad Veidt a lot too. I'd probably have more and better things to say about a lot of these upon a second or third watch.

So as of late November, I'm 15 films deep with a lot more to go. I'm thinking about splitting this up into multiple posts, maybe like 5ish films/post. Originally I was going to see how many of these movies can I watch before the end of 2023. But I'm just going to keep going until I run out of available titles or I get sick of Connie's face (unlikely).

The Man Who Laughs, 1928 Dir. Paul Leni ⭐4.5/5 Watched mid-Oct, Archive.org Nothing could have prepared me for this. Of course I was aware of TMWL, but more vaguely than I guess I realized. It's really ahead of its time. The production quality is astounding, it's an absolutely beautiful film. The whole cast is pretty great, too. The Duchess? Total smoke show. Homo the Dog? Queer icon. And Connie really swings for the fences emotionally and physically as Gwynplaine. Bear in mind, this is literally only the third Conrad Veidt movie I've ever seen (other than the basic, intro level Cabinet of Dr Caligari and Casablanca), so I was really floored by what he's able to do in this role with the use of really only half his face. There are several wonderfully haunting and heartbreaking visuals and moments throughout the nearly 2 hour runtime that will stay with me long after watching. Half a star got knocked off because the score was a little bombastic and there were one too many clowns for me personally. But those are small complaints for what may otherwise be a pretty perfect film.

Unheimliche Geschichten (Eerie Tales), 1919 Dir. Richard Oswald ⭐3/5 Watched mid-Oct, Archive.org A romp. The version I watched had no soundtrack at all, making for a totally silent viewing experience. The vignette structure and old school effects are fun. I enjoyed seeing Anita Berber in action although maybe I was expecting more because of all the hype surrounding her/her image. But Connie, Anita, and Reinhold Schünzel seem like they had a good time working on this project. "The Black Cat" and "The Suicide Club" were my favorite sections (and I actually watched this when I was in the middle of Netflix's The Fall of the House of Usher, so yay for extra Poe content in the spookiest month). As for Connie Content, what can I say, he's stunning.

The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari, 1920 Dir. Robert Wiene ⭐3.5/5 Watched Oct 17, Archive.org I went hard with the silent era when I started this journey. Caligari was my intro to Conrad Veidt almost 15 years ago, and as a lapsed goth art student, I remember being bewitched by his strange and off-putting presence on screen. My rating for this one is kind of low compared to how undoubtedly iconic and important of a film it is. It could have been my mood but upon rewatching, but the story fell a little flat for me. I did like the updated score in the version I watched, and I would love to see this one on the big screen maybe with a live orchestra some day.

Orlacs Hände (The Hands of Orlac), 1924 Dir. Robert Wiene ⭐4/5 Watched Oct 17, Archive.org Loved. It's so horny and bizarre (the scene with the maid crawling on the floor? same, girl, same). And visually the most pre-David Lynch Lynchian-looking movie I've ever seen. The shots that linger on highly stylized, cavernous, empty rooms before a character enters? So David Lynch. I'm also a big fan of the psychological body horror and crime thriller genre mashup. It's got twists, it's got turns. Conrad Veidt's your man if you ever needed a Hand Actor. Like the handsiest Hand Actor who ever had a pair of hands. Someone who could really work those mitts.

A Woman's Face, 1941 Dir. George Cukor ⭐4.5/5 Watched Oct 18, Vudu & TCM Jumping way forward in Connie's career. This movie did things to me. This was, I think, the point of no return. It's extremely underrated, I'm legitimately surprised I'd not heard of it before diving down this rabbit hole. That said, it is strange and pretty spicy for a Hays Code era picture. It's so good, I actually watched it twice (it aired on TCM as a part of their creepy cinema series). Visually beautiful and narratively interesting, if maybe a little long despite the rushed ending. Shout out to Joan Crawford for giving what's probably the best performance of hers, at least that I've seen (Mildred Pierce who?). And then there's nasty, nasty Conrad Veidt. He very nearly steals the movie from Joan, I couldn’t take my eyes off him. He's beautiful, he's TALL, he's scary. Genuinely shocked he doesn't have second billing. But what else can I say about his Torsten Barring that hasn't already been said more eloquently by others? It's such a great character, and I believe he said it was one of his favorites during his entire 100+ film career. A Woman's Face is the only title on this list so far where immediately after watching I wanted to buy the dvd. Ugh, we deserved several more decades of Connie in roles like this.

hi anon! thanks for the ask! I haven't done a "top" or "favorites" list but I just made my trc/tdt bookmarks on ao3 public so feel free to check those out. i normally bookmark fics i want to re-read and i've been sometimes posting a "fics i read this week" post where i bookmark fics from my history to post here on tumblr.

if you want to stay for a while i can tell you why i don't like top/favorites lists but no worries if you wanna stop reading now 🙃 and also i def dont mean to project any of this below toward you, anon, i really appreciate the question! however, when someone asks me something (esp on anon), i wanna be able to share my feelings on the subject, so here are just my thoughts on the topic of this.

i don't like favorites/top lists in fandom for a number of reasons:

I am SUPER indecisive - I read fic all the damn time and I have loved so many fics I read that if I made a favorites list, it would be 100+ long haha not super digestible for folks to read/pick and choose from. My bookmarks, for example, is over 120+ at the moment and I add to it nearly every week.

I am SUPER forgetful - I sometimes forget to bookmark or save a fic that I read and loved and then it feels like its gone forever. My bookmarks is not a solid list of every fic I've read and loved and people remind me of fics that I think "OMG I LOVED THAT ONE" like every week and I realize I didn't save it so even if I did make a favorites list it would probably be the faves I remember at that moment and not an accurate representation of all the trc fic I've been reading since 2021.

I am SUPER against it - this could just be from my experience in the marauders fandom, but I hate when authors are put on a pedestal or seen as "the best of the fandom" because I don't want to deter anyone from writing fic or creating content in the fandom they love. I've been writing fic since I was 13 (I am 30 now) and we didn't have influencer culture or rating fics on goodreads or speculating authors irl identities on tiktok. (Again this is mainly hp/marauders fandom toxicity hence why I'm outta there, but I think this must also permeate other fandoms - thankfully not trc that I've seen.)

Anyway, my point being - creating content (fic, art, music, etc) for a fandom you love is BEAUTIFUL and I don't want to contribute to the emphasis on number of kudos, bookmarks, and/or comments - that stuff shouldn't matter to readers and it shouldn't matter to writers either. And sometimes when these "favorites" lists come out, it makes the creators (artists, writers, etc) feel like their stuff isn't good enough. With the trc fandom already being so small (I think? where is everyone?) I don't want to contribute to that narrative.

TLDR: Liz, it's not that serious. I know but I was in the marauders fandom around the big boom of ATYD so like I've seen some toxic-ass shit. ty 💕

Also hey there again LOL, it's been so long since I posted on this account. I remember when we all thought Twitter was gonna die and everyone was moving to different social medias, but looks like that's not happening any time soon. I've basically been posting all my art there and I started to just kind of just not feel Tumblr for a bit. needless to say I got a LOT of shit to post here LOL.

Well in the meantime, here's my latest piece! I've been recently tooling around with this program called ntscQT, which gives your images and videos a filter like it was on a real VHS. I always had a fondness for when my family and I bought lots of VHSs back on the thrift store, so for me to actually recreate that look is cool. I also found out how to also recreate the VHS filter in art programs, but like ntscQT better. Now for the art itself, tbh I don't actually ship these 2 much LOL; I always imagined Wario as a guy who either is clueless to or doesn't give a damn about love so he basically just brushes any person who's interested in him off, including Mona. I do find the ship cute tho and I've been a WarioWare mood so I just went and did an art piece anyway. If you noticed in the background, there's also the football player from WarioWare Smooth Moves in Mona's stage, who he had a crush on but unfortunately confessed too late LOL.

HEY SO I FINALLY WANNA PRESENT AN OC INTO TUMBLR

I've had this set up for like.. atleast a month so far, the reference drawn [even if i'm not proud of how the legs turned out in retrospect but I mean hey, it could have been a worse attempt at drawing both Mewtwo legs and digitigrade legs, right?], the google doc on them made, an entire playlist on youtube for em [which I will actually make viewable to friends once I get a pfp that i'm proud enough of to make a channel with lol], EVERYTHING

But like.. idk what made me take so long to actually make this! Especially since I was so excited to present the oc into this thing, so why mull over it any further! Also.. doc here, since I mentioned it up above lol, this is basically a doc I have on everything for Oblitus so far, lore, personality, hobbies they can get, so on and so forth, even stuff before they became a PMD oc!.. With some unexplained info since me and a friend do rps together with our ocs and all, but I did get their lore presented! Their hands look how they do in the art [with the fingertips and such] and they got fluff on their tail only because of the merging with a human bodypart thing, it changed their body structure reallly slightly to have more humanoid looking hands than... whatever Mewtwo's got going on with their paws and such, and their tail fluff too! Which is sorta like human hair in all but the structure and stuff, which acts more like fluff.

Oh, and their eyes don't glow when they use psychic abilities yet, that's really only when they get emotionally overwhelmed/unstable, mentally distressed/unstable, or pushing themselves as much as they can due to a situation of distress and all... or if their amnesia wears off through remembering enough or experiencing enough familiar feelings on memories to remember stuff and such

They did/do have some.. well, troubles with using the full strength of their psychic abilities due to forgetting all of them from how severe the amnesia is, but they can get them back by just remembering how to use them, and getting back to being more used to em! [I swear I could explain more properly if asked specifics lol]

ANYWAYS, RAMBLING HOUR OVER! I hope anyone who gets through this absolute slog of a post thinks Oblitus is cool, and I would love to hear your thoughts on em! It's my first time actually presenting an oc into Tumblr, so i'm kinda nervous about it, but here's to hoping it all goes well!
