Decided to post a writing prompt I did with the beach boys
Why did it have to be him?
Dallas Nightingale was blessed enough to be fairly attractive and a social butterfly. Meaning that he has quite a few friends and admirers. Dallas would go on and on to Flynn about the parties and hang outs where he had supposedly met “the love of his life”. So much so that his sister became bored of hearing it. What was obvious to her but not to her brother was that he had no idea what that term meant. But he was going to.
Dallas described that night as a meeting arranged by the gods themselves. It had to be. Because for once, Dallas’s theatrics were true. Meeting him was a life changing moment. And it was only then that Dallas really understood what that term means. Love. It was none of the brief relationships he had. None of the people he would rave about to Flynn. It’s him.
Dallas feels his heart rate skyrocket as a gloved hand intertwines with his. He laughed joyfully as he is dragged along. And while he does feel genuine joy, there is also a sense of fear that causes his heart to hammer in his chest. Why is he so afraid? Nothing is happening. Regardless of this irrational fear, Dallas allows himself to be pulled to who knows where by this boy. Romero Kingston, Dallas’s best friend.
The two boys were practically inseparable. Everyone who knew them all knew how close the two are. Ever since they met, you would never see one without the other. Brothers, they’d call them. Two peas in a pod.
But Dallas disagreed. As he watched the setting sun cast a radiant glow over Romero’s flawless skin, giving him an almost ethereal look, he disagreed. Dallas silently thanks the gods for giving him naturally rosy cheeks to hide how warm his face is as he stares at Romero’s breathtaking smile. How is it that someone can have such a beautiful smile that it freezes people in their tracks and makes their minds go blank? Dallas wondered this every time he saw Romero smile. Some part of him desperately craves to be the reason he smiles.
Dallas and Romero crack jokes, determined to make each other laugh as they sit on the docks, watching the sun set beneath the sea. For once, Romero was confident enough to remove the necklace that disguised his non human features, letting the wind blow through his feathers. Dallas watches in awe as Romero’s wings stretch out, enjoying the breeze brought by the evening. It’s enchanting. Dallas felt as if he were looking at some divine being. Not just a siren boy who worked at a bar in the city.
Of course he’s a siren.
Pirates were known for falling head over heels for sirens in stories. But this is real. Dallas had fallen and fallen hard. It was almost impossible to tear his eyes away from Romero and actually enjoy the view of the setting sun. He’s seen it a million times before so to the young pirate, there was nothing all that interesting about it. Dallas is much more interested in Romero’s reaction, watching his eyes light up in pure delight as the oranges and reds in the sky give way to deep purples and blues, stars sparkling in the distance. Dallas could see the stars reflecting in Romero’s eyes. And that was much more appealing to him than the real thing.

For the slumber party, can you share any changes or anything you are really excited about with the Cruel Summer novel?
remember when I announced a slumber party and then absolutely forgot about it? this is the latest anything's ever been ever in the history of the world
thank you for this question! I absolutely can share some changes and details I'm really excited about :-)
novel stuff under the cut!
it will not be called cruel summer because I think that title is kind of oversaturated in today's climate. bananarama, taylor swift, the tv show! I would hate for it to be lost! a working title for now is SKIN. but I call the trilogy NOW THAT YOU'RE GONE!
it's going to be a trilogy! I want to release them in a weird order, too. 1987 (which is the cruel summer rewrite), 1977 (a prequel), then 1987-88 which is the direct aftermath of 1987. in love with the idea of imperfect/unconventional victims and how our history shapes us and our decisions/choices.
1987 will be the most conventional horror story. 1977 is more of a thriller/drama. 1987-88 is more of a meditation on grief and trauma. like how we survive terrible things and why.
cannibalism is a big big big big big BIG theme. hunger, love, consumption.
it's definitely a character study! and you bet your bottom dollar that it is still a love triangle
here are all the characters: nightingale - wilhelmina "willie" sandusky rooster - augustus "gus" duvall hangman - dallas farrow phoenix - julie "jules" fraser bob - buddy morrison coyote - malcolm jones payback - matthew "matt" autrey fanboy - ricky lorne
I am 72k into the novel and none of it has been copied from the original work!
I think there are only going to be three survivors instead of four, but the jury is still out on this decision.

Come posso sospirarlo? Kahlil Gibran art by_ryder68_ *************************** Deep in my soul it is a song without words, a song that lives in the seed of my heart. She refuses to melt with ink on parchment; envelops my affection in a transparent mantle and flows, but not on my lips. How can I sigh it? I'm afraid it can mix with earthly ether; Who will I sing it to? He lives in the house of my soul, in fear of hard ears. When I look into my inner eyes I see the shadow of his shadow; When I touch my fingertips I feel the vibrations. The actions of my hands pay attention to his Presence like a lake must reflect the twinkling stars; my tears they reveal it, like luminous drops of dew reveal the secret of a withered rose. It is a song composed of contemplation, And published by silence, And avoided by the clamor, And bent by the truth, And repeated by dreams, And understood by love, And hidden from awakening, And sung from the soul. It is the song of love; What Cain or Esau could sing it? It is more fragrant than jasmine; What voice could enslave him? It is deep, like a virgin's secret; What string could make it vibrate? Who dares to join the roar of the sea and the song of the nightingale? Who dares compare the screaming storm to the sigh of a child? Who dares to speak the words out loud intended to be spoken from the heart? Which human being dares to sing with his voice The song of God? Kahlil Gibran art by_ryder68_

Dallas buyers club
Ron Woodroof's Dallas Buyers Club provides experimental drugs for AIDS victims
NOTE: Mr. Woodroof died from an AIDS-related illness in 1992.
A film version of his story, Dallas Buyers Club, starring Matthew McConaughey as Woodroof, is due for release later this year.
From The Dallas Morning News, May 17, 1989
CLUB DISPENSES EXPERIMENTAL AIDS DRUGS
The closet in Ron Woodroof's bedroom looks like a miniature pharmaceutical warehouse.
Pint bottles of hydrogen peroxide, packets of dextran sulfate and small containers of a drug called Procaine PVP fill the spaces where clothes should hang.
From his tiny Oak Lawn apartment, Mr. Woodroof is operating one of the largest distribution centers for experimental AIDS treatments in the United States.
This month alone, the Dallas Buyers Club will dispense thousands of dollars worth of purported AIDS treatments to people diagnosed with the deadly disease.
"I am my own physician,' said Mr. Woodroof, 39, a former electrical contractor who founded the club in March 1988, shortly after his AIDS was diagnosed.
Currently, he is taking three experimental treatments that he believes have reduced his suffering and extended his life.
The buyers club, which has more than 580 local members, is part of a national network that imports AIDS treatments from other countries, including Japan, Switzerland and Sweden.
Some experimental drugs manufactured in the United States are shipped to other countries and brought back in through Mexico.
None of the treatments has been approved by the federal government for use by AIDS patients.
So far, the complicated arrangement has the blessing of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, although there is growing concern by federal officials that prices are being inflated and that some treatments may prove deadly.
"For the most part, we are looking the other way,' said Brad Stone, a spokesman for the federal agency, which oversees the manufacture and distribution of drugs.
"We allow personal quantities of AIDS treatments to be brought into the country if they are not on our import alert list. At this point, we aren't aware of any AIDS drugs being on that list.'
Buying clubs have stretched the FDA's intent somewhat by setting up a network of couriers and individuals who bring small quantities of certain drugs into the country.
The clubs then amass and distribute the drugs to willing -- and sometimes desperate -- AIDS patients who could not manage the process individually.
About 60 experimental treatments are available through the network. But the arrangements are not profit-making ventures, those involved emphasize.
"We are not trying to make money on these drugs,' said Mr. Woodroof.
"We have a 17 percent gross markup or less. It covers the basic product cost and shipping.'
While some local doctors are concerned about potential health problems from treatments that have not met U.S. standards, increasingly they are accepting their patients' decision to look beyond accepted therapies for a disease that has no cure.
"It's a reality of my practice and I'd be a fool not to expect it,' said Dr. Stephen Nightingale, director of the AIDS clinic at Parkland Memorial Hospital.
"But in the past year I have not seen any patient who was physically damaged by any remedy they were taking.'
Last month, however, the FDA issued a warning to AIDS patients who were drinking a diluted solution of hydrogen peroxide in the belief that it would somehow stop the spread of the human immunodeficiency virus, or HIV, which causes AIDS.
In the past year, a Conroe child died and several others were severely injured when they were mistakenly served high concentrations of the liquid.
A mother of one child had mistaken the drink for chilled water stored in the refrigerator.
The FDA warning has not deterred Mr. Woodroof from continuing to offer the drug.
He said he knows of 17 patients locally who are using the potion and seeing positive results.
"We're not going to stop handling it as long as someone who is HIV-positive wants it,' he said.
"The whole point of this is to give people options. If they see results, then that's all that matters.'

nanorecensioni: Nightingale (2018)

World building or something
The crowd was like a never-ending sea, waves of people from every district, swallowing everything in their path, stragglers trapped in the current. The hot air generated from the large wave of people was practically suffocating me, and I could feel sweat dripping off my forehead despite not doing anything particularly laborious. It didn’t help that the air is naturally hot here. Such is the norm for the busy outlets of Cinderstone Heights, Hestia’s most popular tourist destination.
I stumbled and took a second to regain my balance before I too was swept away. The smell of someone cooking meat from a nearby restaurant filled my nose as I tried to navigate my way through the endless stream of shoppers. Women in extravagant hats that make them stand out, men with long coats that dragged along the ground and got stomped on by the crowd. Teenagers hanging out outside the shops.. ah somethings never change. People dressed in all sorts of outfits, each one different. They ranged from simple farm clothes, glamorous gowns and suits, even hunters attire. I tried to avoid the last ones. The people wandering the market were like snowflakes, each one unique with none that were exactly the same. Beautiful.. from a distance at least. To be caught in the current was overwhelming to say the least. I couldn’t take more than three steps without bumping into someone. The chatter of what could have been thousands of shoppers and tourists hammered in my ears and pounded in my head.
It was then that I noticed the man in front of me had dropped something. It was small and just barely noticeable, if I had blinked, I would have missed it. I watched it catch the light as it spun, then disappear into the ocean of feet and wheels. Against my better judgement, I made a dive for the fallen object, careful not to be trampled by the herd as I scoured the floor for the shiny object, the hot ground burning my hands if they lingered in one spot too long. Out of the corner of my eye, I see a small shimmer. To my delight, the item was there, and I made quick work of snatching it and standing back up. Upon closer inspection, I realized it was a gold pin, designed to look like a rose. It was beautiful but worn. Whoever dropped it must care a great deal about it.
I looked around frantically, hoping to locate the stranger but trying to pick out an individual in this crowd was like trying to find a needle in a haystack. I struggled to remember what the man had looked like only recalling his leather coat and sword sheath. I rushed through the crowd, asking if they had seen the man. I felt as if I were swimming upstream as I had to push against people to get through. One girl had fortunately spotted him heading towards the farmers’ market. I knew that area would be less crowded at this time of day due to the heat. I breathed a sigh of relief, thanked the girl and made my way to the market, eyes peeled for the sword sheath and coat.
As I had predicted, the markets were rather empty, save for the occasional old ladies or collectors passing through.
That’s when I saw the coat. I raced forward and tapped his shoulder. When he turned, whatever I was going to say had been long forgotten. I was staring at Dallas Nightingale, legendary outlaw, hero of the isles. I felt almost shy. I had never spoken with a celebrity before, much less a hero. Ask anyone and they will tell you he’s the most approachable person, greeting everyone with a smile. Right now, he seemed a little confused, as if he were waiting for something... Wait.
“Um,” I said intelligently. “I- I found your pin.” I meekly held it up, mentally cursing myself for not having more to say. He looked down at it, then to a spot on his jacket and back to the pin in my head seeming to have the realization. He carefully picked it up and pinned it back in place. I anxiously awaited a response from him. After what felt like ages, he cleared his throat.
“Oh my gods I didn’t even realize I had lost it. Thank you so much; I don’t know what I would have done without it. This pin means a lot to me. I can’t believe I almost lost it, thank you again. You’ve got a better eye than I do.”
His smile was dazzling, had we not been outside, it would have brightened up an entire room. It was warm and friendly, enough to almost make me forget that I was talking to a famous person and not a close friend. He had that effect on people, as if he were simply a friend you’ve known for ages. He shook my hand firmly and I thought I might faint. He. Shook. My. Hand. THE Dallas Nightingale had shaken my hand. I momentarily wondered if I was dreaming, or perhaps had gone insane and that this was all a hallucination.
“It- it was no trouble at all. I’ve got a eye for shiny things. It runs my family hehehe-” I’m talking to much, I thought. Dallas only smiled and gave a warm chuckle.
“That’s pretty impressive... oh- forgive me. I haven’t even asked you for your name.” He nervously chuckled.
“Ariel. Um Ariel Silver. It’s nice to meet you.” I didn’t even bother to pretend I didn’t know him. Everyone and their mother knew who he was. My face felt warm from embarrassment, and I could only hope he didn’t think I was weird.
“Ariel is a very nice name. It suits you. Thank you again miss. I’ve got to be going but I hope we’ll meet again. Take care!” He shook my hand one last time before rushing off. I stood there for a moment, gathering my thoughts. I couldn’t wait to tell everyone at work that I met him.
Meet Ariel Silver! My special, tragic little gal. Another important character in my story who has yet to be introduced here. I have a really cool idea for how I want to make these books and she is a big part.

I think I saw that you said you decided on names. Could you share them? If you're comfortable!
I do feel comfortable sharing, but also scared!!
Nightingale is Wilhelmina Kerr, but she just goes by Willie
Jake is Dallas Farrow, but usually goes by Farrow (or just Dallas!)
Bradley is Augustus DuVall, but goes by Gus or Auggie
Bob is literally just Bobby Morrison
Phoenix is Julie Fraser and goes by Jules
Payback is Bruce Jones
Fanboy is Ricky Moreno
Javy is Vincent Autry, but goes by Vin
what do we think....? I worked really hard to make sure the names fit the time period (they were all born in the 60s, mind you!) and keep their general vibes the same!
