#OTD in 1940 – Birth of Maeve Binchy, an Irish novelist, playwright, short story writer, columnist, and speaker best known for her humorous take on small-town life in Ireland, her descriptive characters, her interest in human nature and her often clever surprise endings.
Her novels, which were translated into 37 languages, sold more than 40 million copies worldwide, and her death, announced by Vincent Browne on Irish television late on 30 July 2012, was mourned as the passing of Ireland’s best-loved and most recognisable writer. In September 2012, a new garden behind the Dalkey Library in Dublin was dedicated in memory of Binchy. In 2014 the University of Dublin…

☘️ I'm back from Ireland ☘️
And had an absolutely amazing time. It's an overwhelmingly beautiful country and I had so much fun with my friends. ❤️ Here are some photo highlights (for Dublin see my other post).

We visited many castles, some more haunted than others 👻

We climbed Diamond Hill in Connemara National Park 💪

Found beautiful flowers in the rocky landscape of the Burren

Drove the Ring of Kerry, along with two other peninsula loop drives on different days, and saw loads of gorgeous sights along the way, like at this stop we made at Waterville

Even the view from the rental car was breathtaking most of the time!

Due to weather conditions we did not make it to the top of Devil's Ladder, but it was still a great, if wet, adventure!

Oh and we stayed in some incredible Airbnbs (this one used to be a gatehouse 🤩)

We also went on an AWESOME eco marine tour, but I'll make a separate post about that.
So yeah, I'll miss Ireland, but I'm also glad to be back home. 😊 Time to rest now 😴😴

#OTD in 1920 – The Siege of Tralee | Ten people die in a day and night of violence in Co Kerry.
“When the hills were bleedin’ And the rifles were aflame To the rebel homes of Kerry, The Saxon strangers came, But the men who dared the Auxies And fought the Black and Tan Were the Boys of Barr na Sráide Who hunted for the wren.” Two RIC constables were shot dead in Abbeydorney by IRA volunteers. Sláinte☘️🥃🇮🇪
Happy Paddy’s Day, loves. It’s been a special one for sure. I haven’t celebrated in my Irish hometown for quite some time, so I feel exceptionally privileged today. Myself and Pa roamed the streets of Dalkey from 10am-11pm, only heading home to check on our aunt every couple of hours. She’s hard work, bless her, but at 94 years of age you cannae blame her. Hope everyone’s has a decent weekend. Here’s to good health🫡
