This post reminded me of both Renga and Spiritshipping and it made me realize just how similar they are to each other besides the color scheme.

Protective of each other but willing to let the other prove themselves? Check.

Encourageshipping Week 2017!

What is this?

A shipping week is a designated week where fans create content for a specific ship, inspired by a set of daily prompts. The purpose of these weeks is to bring fans together, generate more content for the ship, and hopefully raise interest in the ship!

What is Encourageshipping?

Encourageshipping was formerly known as Spiritshipping. Since Spiritshipping is also the name of the much more popular GX ship, Juudai/Johan, the name was changed by vote to avoid confusion with the GX ship and make it easier to find and get new content noticed. However, not everyone is aware of this change, and hopefully by hosting this shipping week, more people will be aware of the changed name!

This ship is a 3-member ship between Yuugi Mutou, Anzu Mazaki, and Yami Yuugi (Atem). For the purposes of this shipping week (and this blog in general), Encourageshipping can refer to any incarnation of these characters (i.e. there is no differentiation between “Atem” and “Yami Yuugi”, and the Ancient Egyptian fanon counterparts of Yuugi and Anzu are acceptable, as are video game-specific ones, such as Henry “Yugi” Tudor as Atem. You get the idea).

Since I know that some fans of this ship don’t necessarily ship all three characters in a mutual romantic relationship with one another, for the purposes of this shipping week and this blog, Encourageshipping also encompasses situations where one of the characters is mutually romantically involved with/interested in the other two, but the other two aren’t romantically involved with or interested in each other.

When is this?

This shipping week is planned for the week of July 30th through August 5th.

How does this work/What are the rules?

Each day has four prompts (originally I was planning on three, but I got enough prompts to bump it up to four) to choose from. You do not have to write for all of the prompts each day, nor do you have to participate every day, but you shouldn’t post work corresponding to a particular prompt before the day that prompt is assigned to. You may also combine prompts, both from a single day and multiple days, as long as you don’t post before the day of the latest prompt.

All types and mediums of fanwork are welcome, as long as the work is your own! You can collaborate with someone if you wish (for example, if you wanted to do an Encourageshipping cosplay, you would need other people to do that), as long as everyone is credited and aware of their participation. Tag any work that you want part of this event with “encourageshipping week” within the first five tags so that it will show up in the tag. Submissions are acceptable as well, as long as you can show proof that the work is your own. You are welcome to post your work outside of Tumblr, as well (FFN, AO3, DeviantArt, Youtube, etc.) and you can post/submit a link to that site instead of posting the work directly on Tumblr if you wish.

From this point until two weeks before the event (July 16th, if the week remains the same), this blog will accept prompt suggestions. This is a change from last year, where it was only a week. Hopefully by finalizing the prompts earlier it will give people the chance to pre-prepare work if they want. I will try to include all accepted prompt suggestions, although I don’t wish to go over three prompts a day this time. You do not have to write for all of the prompts each day, nor do you have to participate every day, but you shouldn’t post work corresponding to a particular prompt before the day that prompt is assigned to.

I saw a comment once saying that Johan's introduction is stupid because it felt like he took the spotlight and Judai's other friends were shoved aside. And that he's too "perfect" and totally not needed in the story.

And I was just like: "??? His friends were part of problem? Of course he needs some space from them?? They were flawed characters and their character devolpment is being toyed around with so of course it's easier to just shrug them off.

Johan is probably the best guy in the series but he also had real personality and stuff he cherished. Sure he might not have any apparent flaws but that dosen't mean he was written badly."

In fact, I didn't even like Judai that much in the beginning but I liked Johan the moment he was introduced.

I only got attached to the series and Jaden because of him. Johan did what the whole crew and the main character on his own couldn't. He showed me Judai in another light.

Honestly some might not like him, but he's peak side character in my opinion.

Johan Anderson man... This guy is the heart of Season 3 and really showed just how much Judai was falling.

He exposes Judai's flaws, his fears and inspires him.

In the dual with Cobra, Johan saw Judai was afraid and that Cobra's words were getting to him.. So he made a joke and told Judai that hey its okay.

He's not dumb, he knew this wasn't the time for jokes but knew that's what Judai needed. He needed to be strong for Judai.

He also showed himself to be a leader, a responsibility Judai himself is happy to pass onto him. He's the one who gets the students to chill and sorts the plan out when the whole zombie shit goes down.

Johan defends himself when that guy tried to steal his deck and is so worried that Judai... Already exhausted and hurt comes to save him. Because Judai shouldn't have to save him, shouldn't drop his own wellbeing for him.

Because Judai's so used to being on a pedestal by others as the hero who saves them all he can't cope... He doesn't know what to do.

Johan repeatedly asks if Judai's okay before Judai can even say anything, he just knows.

He's one of the most strongest dualists in his generation, said by Pegasus himself.

Personally I believe Judai's downfall started in Season 2 when he lost the ability to see his cards that's the lowest I've ever seen him.

(Could be wrong could be earlier if I check)

And Johan doesn't let him hide it and talks to him. And Judai thinks the world of him, sees him as not just an equal but someone he can aspire to be.

Heck Judai gets upset that his reason for dualing isn't as noble or great at Johan's and he's the one who supports him with that.

Johan has so much faith in Judai.

He became his literal rock. And when he dissappeared Jaden was back where he started but couldn't cope.

He was erratic and desperate. Now Judai would've been desperate if it was any of his friends yes but I definitely don't think it'd have had the same effect.

Johan kept him grounded, let him feel vulnerable and allowed Judai to put his faith in others and not bare everything alone.

That's why Yubel possessed Johan because "the love Judai had for them was given to Johan instead"

And they wanted him to suffer and who else would make Judai that desperate.

Johan is a great character because of how he fits in the narrative but Judai himself, he's the version of Judai, that Judai wishes he could be.

And Johan admires Judai, his spirit his heart and who is as a person. That smile he shared with him during the whole Syrus almost drowned thing was nothing short of fondness.

And when it comes to their ship I can absolutely see Judai feeling he isn't enough for Johan because he's caused him so much pain and Judai's changed both physically and mentally and how can you...

And Johan would accept him like he always has.

In conclusion: Crystal boi is a good boi and deserves everything and he's so awesome and badass and just yes. His number one fan is Judai.
