Defend activists and organizers under attack! Defend Black lives!
As the anti-racist uprising of 2020 roiled business as usual in cities across the U.S., many protesters have been hit with severe charges after being arrested for offenses that would normally be considered violations or misdemeanors. Many arrestees are facing possible sentences of years in prison or even life sentences.
In a dangerous attack on our right to protest, Attorney General William Barr in a recent conference call with U.S. attorneys across the country even encouraged sedition charges be widely used against anti-racist protestors. Sedition means conspiracy and intent to overthrow the U.S. government and can result in life imprisonment.
The Socialist Unity Party has issued an appeal to all revolutionary left organizations and activists to unite in defense of those facing repression from the capitalist state and its allies in the white supremacist-fascist movement. (Read the appeal in English or Spanish)
Please share widely. This list will be updated regularly. If you know of a case that should be added, send details to: [email protected].
Here are some important cases and actions that your organization or you as an individual can publicize to help:
San Diego
Denzel Draughn, a well-known San Diego anti-racist activist and supporter of the African People’s Socialist Party, was arrested Aug. 28 at a demonstration in solidarity with the movement in Kenosha, Wis., calling for justice for Jacob Blake, who was shot seven times in the back by police. Draughn is charged based on the ridiculous claim that he pepper-sprayed nine cops. He is facing 19 felony charges as a result. The allegations stem from an incident when a group of demonstrators tried to defend themselves against a violent police assault. Ten people were arrested, but Draughn has been singled out for the harshest treatment. At the request of San Diego cops, his bail is set at the outrageous amount of $750,000 – an amount usually reserved for kidnapping or murder.

Denver
On Sept. 17, police agencies in the Denver area arrested anti-racist organizers in a coordinated assault. Russell Ruch was arrested while in a parking lot at a Home Depot. An hour later, five police cars surrounded and arrested Lillian House while she was driving. That afternoon, S.W.A.T. teams arrived at Joel Northam’s home and arrested him. Eliza Lucero has also been arrested. All four are members of the Party for Socialism and Liberation and organizers of protests to demand justice for Elijah McClain, who was brutally murdered by the Aurora Police Department. They are still in jail, with the exception of one person, and face multiple felony charges and years in prison in an obvious frame-up aimed at stopping the movement for justice for Elijah McClain.

Tallahassee, Fla.
On Sept. 5, Tallahassee police and Leon County sheriffs attacked a peaceful Black Lives Matter demonstration. After pulling a Black woman organizer from her car, 300 police attacked around 75-100 protesters. Fourteen were arrested on the spot and five more have been arrested since, including members of the Students for a Democratic Society and Freedom Road Socialist Organization. The majority are facing multiple charges, including felonies, that could result in fines of $10,000 and 10 years in prison. Others face up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine for each misdemeanor they’re charged with. The demonstration was to protest a grand jury decision not to indict the police officers who murdered Tony McDade, Mychael Johnson and Wilburn Woodard. The three were gunned down by Tallahassee police in March and May of this year.

Portland, Ore.
The battle against police racism is raging in Portland. Nightly demonstrations have entered their fourth month. Since the end of May, hundreds have been arrested. In August, hoping to quell the protests, incoming Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt dropped charges against protestors. Demonstrations continued to challenge systemic racism, arrests and brutality continued, and charges have become more severe. On Aug. 27, a news release by the U.S. Attorney’s District of Oregon office announced that it is going ahead with prosecutions of 100 people who were arrested since May, many by Trump’s federal officers. Seventy-four of them are facing felonies that could result in prison sentences of years. A Sept. 5 NPR audit of the felony charges concludes that the actions protestors were accused of and arrested for were minor and should never have resulted in felonies.
● Call the District Attorney’s office at (503) 727-1000 or comment on the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of Oregon website by emailing [email protected] to demand that charges be dropped against anti-racist protesters.
Oklahoma City
In Oklahoma, where the entire Black community of Tulsa was burned in 1919, and where a white supremacist attack killed 168 people in 1995, Oklahoma County District Attorney Lewis Prater has charged three teenagers, Malachai Davis, Haley Lin Crawford and Sydney Lynch – as well as two other participants in protests against the police murder of George Floyd -- with terrorism. The bond amounts for a dozen other arrestees are between $200,000 and $1 million. The harshest treatment has been directed at those arrestees who are African American. Terrorism convictions could mean years or even decades in prison for charges that should have been misdemeanors. In May, DA Prater refused to charge cops who killed Isaiah Lewis during a mental health crisis in September 2019. When 42-year-old Derrick Scott was in custody of Oklahoma City cops in May 2019, he told them he couldn’t breathe and asked for his medicine. The cop’s response was “I don’t care.” Scott died soon afterward, but Prater brought no charges against those cops either. In August of this year, James Harmon was shot in the head by cops, also in Prater’s jurisdiction, and there is no indication that charges will be brought against the cops who killed him.
● Call DA Lewis Prater’s office at (405) 713-1600 and demand he drop all charges against anti-racist protesters and bring charges against killer cops.
Salt Lake City
In Salt Lake City, a group of protestors are charged with felony criminal mischief. District Attorney Sim Gill added a “gang enhancement,” which could mean life sentences for seven people who were protesting Gill’s decision not to file charges against two SLC cops who shot Bernardo Palacios-Carbajal in the back and killed him. Gill justifies the gang enhancement by saying the activists conspired to splash red paint and break the windows of a building. The gang enhancement is an inherently racist feature of the criminal justice system, and the fact that it is being used against people protesting police murders of people of color is a further travesty of justice. More than 30 others in Salt Lake City have been hit with serious charges stemming from recent anti-racist demonstrations, including some felonies.
● Call District Attorney Sim Gill’s office at (358) 468-7600 to demand he drop charges against anti-racist protesters.
Miami
Jonathon Gartrelle, a leading gay, African American, anti-racist activist in Miami, is charged with strong-arm robbery and escape – both felonies – as well as two misdemeanors. Jonathon is accused of removing two Trump flags from parked vehicles and dropping them on the ground while counter-protesting at a pro-Trump caravan. Gartrelle himself was hit by an SUV, which drove away and was not pursued by the cops, who are falsely claiming that Gartrelle declined to press charges. Gartrelle wanted to press charges but refused to go with them in a police cruiser to fill out a report at a precinct.
● Sign the petition: https://www.change.org/p/miami-police-department-justice-for-jonni
● Call Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez-Rundel at (305) 547-0100 to demand she drop charges against Jonathon Gartrelle

DaBaby Released From Jail After Alleged Concert Promoter Fade
Source: Prince Williams / Getty
DaBaby is a free man, finally. The “Suge” rapper has been released after his arrest for his alleged involvement in the assault of a North Carolina concert promoter.
TMZ reports DaBaby posted his $1,500 bond and was bailed out of Miami-Dade county jail on late Saturday (Jan. 5) night.
It’s not like the rapper had to dig up the money for the bond, the reason for the hold up was a warrant out of Dallas for a separate incident which was deemed “organized criminal activity.” Reportedly, DaBaby was involved in a fight at the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport and the incident included a food stand worker getting attacked. However, the Dallas authorities withdrew the warrant for reasons that are yet unknown.
Sounds like DaBaby’s attorney was doing some negotiating.
DaBaby has been locked up since Thursday (Jan. 2). Allegedly, the rapper and his crew stomped out a promoter who owed the artist $30,000, but was apparently $10,000 short when it came to pay up. For the trouble, he allegedly caught the proper fade, got his pockets run through and got doused with apple juice. Reportedly, the promoter was liberated of $80, a credit card and an iPhone 7. Footage of him getting assault also made it onto the Internets, so there’s that.
On schedule when it comes to these sorts of the things, the victim says he plans to sue the rapper. Both parties may want to settle this out of court and just keep it moving. Either way, the lawyers will be getting paid.

After Breaking His Silence Following His Arrest, Rapper DaBaby Goes Off About Social Media
Rapper DaBaby is active on social media following his robbery arrest in Miami. Find out what has him up in arms inside…
Rapper DaBaby is airing out all his frustrations on social media following his recent arrest in Miami.
If you haven’t heard, the North Carolina native (real name Jonathan Kirk) was reportedly arrested in connection with the robbery of a club promoter in Miami. The “Suge” rapper was in South Florida for a New Year’s Eve performance at a Miami Beach nightclub. Apparently, the agreement was made that DaBaby would be paid $30,000 for the performance. He linked up with the promoter at Novotel Miami Brickell to collect his coins, but after counting the money, the rapper claimed he was shorted out of $10,000.
When DaBaby began demanding the money, an argument broke out, which resulted in the rapper allegedly punching a man who was with the promoter. The rapper’s crew allegedly jumped in, stealing the man’s iPhone 7, $80 in cash, a credit card, and then the man was allegedly doused with apple juice.
Watch the alleged attack and DaBaby being hauled off in cuffs below:
youtube
The promoter told police he fled the hotel in fear for his safety. Later, DaBaby returned to the hotel and the two victims identified the rapper as the suspect. That’s when DaBaby was arrested and a bond was set at $1,500.
Not so fast!
After his arrest, authorities discovered DaBaby had an arrest warrant in Texas. The reason? Well, the 28-year-old rapper got into a physical altercation at The Dallas/Fort Worth airport last month. He and one of his homies beat down an employee that was working at a food stand. And the fight was caught on camera:
youtube
At one point, the Grammy nominated rapper was being held without bail, but then Dallas cops withdrew the warrant. It’s unclear why they had the change of heart. It was good news for DaBaby because he was released from the Miami-Dade county jail late Saturday night (Jan. 4th) after posting the $1,500 bond and spending 48-hours behind bars.
Soon after, the "BOP" rapper hopped on social media, claiming his innocence and assured his fans that he would beat any lawsuit that could potentially be brought up against him.

Real Nigga wit PLENTY sense For those who passed judgement I already forgave you in advance. P.S. How many Ladies think I’m sexier after reading this post and finding out Im smart too? Had to clear the air real quick. #BackToWork #YouBitchAssNigga
A post shared by BABY JESUS (@dababy) on Jan 6, 2020 at 4:55pm PST
He posted a PSA on his Instagram that read, “To Whom It May Concern. Please stop talking to me about that weak a** 48 hours I spent in jail and that failed attempt to break my spirits and interrupt the path I’m taking to my God given success."
He continued, “Don’t allow yourself to be mislead by janky promoters and lazy a** grown men itching for the opportunity to file a lawsuit that they won’t win"
In the caption, he wrote, “Real Nigga wit PLENTY sense. For those who passed judgement I already forgave you in advance. P.S. - How many Ladies think I’m sexier after reading this post and finding out Im smart too? Had to clear the air real quick. #BackToWork #YouBitchAssNigga”
Today, DaBaby hopped on Twitter to post up a series of tweets about how "lost souls" influence "lost souls" on social media. He said if social media wasn't such a "lucrative tool" in the music industry he wouldn't even be on it.
"I always preferred to say less because social media ain't a place for the truth. But lately I been feeling like it's my calling to say more," he tweeted. However, he's torn about if that's the route he now wants to take:
"The internet so lost they think if a nigga say something with substance he sad," he continued tweeting. "B*tch I’m GOOD. GOD just moved me to send out a message this morning. Don’t send pity where it isn’t needed. Just soak up the game for what it’s worth. Shit it may not be worth nothing at all," he concluded.
We hear him, but, his past actions definitely have a lot to do with the criticism folks are giving. Even though he seems to be a good dude at the core.
The rapper's rap sheet isn't the greatest. Right before Christmas, he was reportedly arrested in Charlotte North Carolina after he performed at the Bojangles' Coliseum. Not long before that arrest, he hosted a XBOX giveaway for kids at the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles. Watch him transform into "Da Santa" HERE.
Cops swarmed his vehicle and allegedly found marijuana, so he was cited for marijuana possession. He made claims that he was targeted and that the police in his hometown are always harassing him. An Internal Affairs investigation has been launched by CMPD to determine if officers followed proper protocol.
Also, he was arrested in 2019 for an alleged attack that apparently happened in November 2018. It's reported DaBaby got into a fight with a man in a Walmart. The man was shot and killed. DaBaby told police he felt threatened and was protecting himself and his kids. However, he said he did NOT pull the trigger. In June 2019, he was convicted of carrying a concealed gun, which is a misdemeanor. He ended up being sentenced to 12 months of unsupervised probation and 30 days in jail, but the jail sentence was suspended.
DaBaby is expected back in court in Miami this week.

How Are Tgk Bondsman Experts Taking Good Care For Your Release Sanction?
The bail bond is an important processing system and is used to release a person out of jail after being accused of a crime or offense against the law. In most cases, bail is granted easily when requested by the lawyer; however, the bail is not given in criminal cases, and the accused is issued a non-bailable warrant against him.
The Bail Bonds by Tgk is available for many different purposes such as:
Citation release form - It is also called “cite out”, and is an easy form of bail. It doesn't demand any money, and the defendant is not taken into custody by the police or any other judiciary authority. If the defendant doesn't attend the court, some additional fines are levied upon him.
Recognizance - in this type of bail bond, the judge decides the bail fee for the victim who takes a pledge to appear at all court dates positively. This is one of the rare cases, especially for high profile public figures. Here the defendant has to prove that he will not move back from the case.
Property - This bail bond is for those who present the property papers as collateral for their bail amount. If the victim fails to attend the court, the state authority can take over the defendant's property.
Cash bond - If the defendant offers some cash to the law as a bail amount, he can be released. However, the case will be charged, and he has to attend the court session.
Therefore, Tgk Bondsman has orders that make it easy for the defendants to release orders in little time. Moreover, with growing ages, society has adopted a structural format where everything is done online for people's convenience. Bail bonding online companies takes charge for support purposes.

All-Star Game a bright spot for struggling Miami Marlins
All-Star Game a bright spot for struggling Miami Marlins – Jul. 11, 2017
The Miami Marlins are in baseball’s spotlight at an awkward time.
Marlins Park hosts the All-Star Game on Tuesday night at a time when Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria is trying to sell the team, attendance is bleak and ticket prices for regular-season games are among the lowest in the league.

Resale tickets for the All-Star Game, which will feature only two Marlins, are cheaper than usual: The average price is $388, and the cheapest ticket to get into the ballpark is $147, according to TicketIQ, which tracks ticket data.
Since the company began keeping track seven years ago, there has only been one year when it was cheaper to get in with a secondhand ticket — 2011, when the Arizona Diamondbacks hosted the game and the average price was $351.
“Miami is always a low-demand MLB city,” said TicketIQ founder Jesse Lawrence.
Related: The Cuban baseball smuggling machine behind MLB
The outlook for Marlins regular season games isn’t much better. Of the 30 teams in the league, the Marlins have the seventh-cheapest resale tickets, at an average of $76 per game, according to TicketIQ.
The Colorado Rockies have the cheapest average tickets at $52. The 2016 World Series champs, the Chicago Cubs, have the most expensive at $180.
On StubHub, the average Marlins seat is even cheaper at $52, although StubHub noted that the price is up from last year and ticket sales have increased since the start of the season. The Marlins didn’t return a call for comment.
Not many people are taking advantage of the bargain. The Marlins have the lowest attendance in the National League, about 21,000 fans per game, according to Baseball Reference. The Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals and Toronto Blue Jays draw roughly twice that.
In a quarter-century of existence, the team has won two championships, but it hasn’t had a winning season since 2009.
Related: The weird rules in the fine print of sports
Loria will still turn a handsome profit when he finds someone to buy the team.
In 2002, he paid about $158 million for the Marlins. At least one group has reportedly bid $1.3 billion to buy it from him. That group was led by Derek Jeter and Jeb Bush, the former Florida governor, although Bush later dropped his interest.
One reason the Marlins have grown so much in value is their $654 million ballpark, which opened in 2012. But not everyone has come out ahead. The new stadium has left Miami-Dade County with $494 million in debt from tax-exempt municipal bonds it issued to help finance the stadium.
