Quinn had a shitty game last night, so instead of letting him come home to a quiet and sleeping house Honey kept the babies up a little longer so they could cheer him up before bed.
He got home and was met with his grinning babies making popcorn for a last-minute movie night!! They all sat bundled up on the couch together and watched Warren's new favourite movie, Disney's Hercules!!
Halfway through the movie both the kids fell asleep, so Quinn and Honey carefully carried them up to their beds and tucked them in before they headed to their room.
They took a warm shower together, little conversations shared between them but it still felt a little tense. As they crawled into their bed Quinn immediately rolled into her arms and just let her hold him. His body finally relaxed as her fingers threaded through his damp curls, the frown on his face slowly fading as he lay almost on top of her.
“Do you want to talk about it?” hun asked quietly, knowing he probably didn't but asking just in case.
He gently shook his head.
“Well, I'm here if you need to talk about it,” she mumbled before tilting her head to press a kiss to the crown of his head as his arms tightened around her.
“I love you,” he said quietly as he pressed a gentle kiss to her chest
“Love you too,” she smiled softly before the both of them quited and finally went to sleep

boat day | quinn hughes x reader

request: pregnant reader x quinn hughes lake day on the boat?
word count: 0.4k + insta edit
“boat day! boat day! boat day! boat day!” trevor chanted as you, quinn, and the rest of the hughes brothers walked down to the dock. quinn got onto the boat first and grabbed a hold of your hand as he helped you climb into the boat. “thank you!” you smiled cheerfully, and quinn beamed back at you. his hand rested on the small of your back as you made your way to the front of the boat to sit down.
you smiled at the boys' shared looks and smirks as they all nodded towards quinn who was now rummaging through his bag. your boy was especially protective over you now that you were pregnant and everyone knew it.  “what are you looking for baby?” you prompted quinn who sat up in his seat at your words.
“sunscreen,” quinn said, handing you a tube of sunscreen from his bag. he watched as you lazily applied the cream to your legs before anxiously telling you to give the tube back to him. “here, let me do it babe” he whispered into your skin as he started lathering the sunscreen generously across your back and down your body.
“water,” quinn reminded you a little while later, pulling out a plastic bottle from the cooler and passing it over to you. you graciously accepted it, sipping the drink and peeking at quinn through the corner of your eye. ever since you had gotten pregnant he had become ten times more protective over you. protectiveness wasnt new for quinn. he had always been attentive of your needs but your pregnancy had sent things into overdrive. he was constantly checking in on you and making sure you and the baby were comfortable. even though his attentiveness got overwhelming sometimes, seeing the instant relief of anxiety and stress lift from quinn made you want to endure his questions and aids ten times over.
“hat?” quinn asked, not even letting you answer as he pulled his own hat off his head and settled it on top of yours. you hummed, leaning your head against your husband's shoulder as you tried to hide your smile. you just loved him so much.
“thank you quinny,” you murmured, shifting so that you were looking out onto the water. quinn hummed in response as he ran his hand through your hair to help relax you.  the breeze, combined with the hum of the boat's motor and the rock tunes playing from jacks speaker quickly had you drifting off to sleep.

Tumblr media
The house was silent when Quinn got home. It was peaceful and quiet. That’s never a good sign with children, he thought, worried. If there’s one thing having children taught Quinn Hughes it is that silence is never a good sign. Upon entering the house, he felt immediately unsettled, his eyes darting around, searching for the little ones, who usually came running into his arms, celebrating his return as if he hadn’t left only a few hours ago.
The defenseman left his equipment bag in the foyer, throwing his keys on the table and hastily taking off his shoes, hurrying up the stairs, looking for a sign of life from his wife and children. Worried, Quinn was skipping steps. He goes into your shared room immediately feeling his heart full. Quinn opened the door to the bedroom quietly and saw his wife, sleeping peacefully in the middle with their two children, Oliver and Aurora, snuggled up against her body. He looked over, a soft smile on his face, mentally wondering how was it possible to live such a good life, surrounded by so much love. Sometimes Quinn still couldn't believe this was his life. Not even his wildest dreams would come close to reality.
He hesitated for a moment, watching the peaceful picture before him. Taking a deep breath, he slowly stepped into the room, carefully made his way over to the bed, and knelt down, carefully brushing a strand of hair from your face. Quinn got up, preparing to turn away and let them rest when you stirred awake, sleepy eyes fluttering open. A bit confused, you quickly took in your surroundings, your gaze finding your husband's. You smiled up at him sleepily and beckoned him closer, doing your best to not wake up the children.
Holding out his hand, Quinn helped you get up without disrupting the two kids. You smiled at him gratefully as he guided the both of you out of the bedroom.
You and Quinn tiptoe downstairs to the kitchen, sitting at the table, drinking some tea. Quinn told you about his day, sharing the stories of the rink, the fun of living out his dreams, and also the hardships of being the captain; you talk about your day at home, telling him about the kids and about how far you've already gotten in the writing of your new book. The two of you stay there, laughing and joking as the afternoon sun casts golden light across the room.
Quinn looked at you with a loving gaze. He could feel a wave of emotion rush through him. Having that sweet moment with you, after seeing you and the children huddled up together had filled him with a longing he couldn't quite explain. He had thought about it before, but never seriously. Now, though, he couldn't help but imagine another kid. Another little one, the perfect mix of the both of you. The thought itself made him smile.
“What do you think about having another baby?” Quinn questioned suddenly, breaking the silence.
“Are you thinking about it?” You answer, looking back at your husband, waiting for his answer.
It’d be an utter lie to say you hadn’t thought about it, truth be told. Both of the kids had friends with baby siblings and you could feel the want for another one deep inside you, missing the baby days. Besides, the sight of Quinn with his teammates' babies always made your mind go blank, full of sinful thoughts.
“I just,” The defenseman starts, unsurely, “I wouldn't be against having another kid if you're up for it.” He said shyly, almost afraid of your response.
You smiled softly, eyes sparkling in the light of the kitchen. Leaning in, you've kissed him sweetly, voice warm and affectionate, slightly flirty. “I'd love to have another baby with you, Mr. Hughes”
Quinn grinned, eyes full of relief and surprise at his wife's answer. “There’s no one else I’d rather be the mother of my children, Mrs. Hughes,” He answers, the same flirty tone you’d used.
He rises from the table, pulling you with him. He held you close, sharing a few more kisses. They stood in the kitchen, the same kitchen where they had shared so many memories together, holding each other and dreaming about the possibilities that lay ahead of them. They both knew that their family was about to get a little bigger, and they couldn't wait. The room was filled with a different kind of joy, one that was shared between two people who loved each other deeply and were excited for the future.

Happy Birthday Papa Bear
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As it became morning in the captain house little feet could be heard running into the bedroom where the birthday boy slept also known as the father of the running little feet.
As his youngest son Noah got up onto the bed with a bit of struggle. Noah starts trying to wake his dad which was his mission of the morning.
You followed behind the three year old boy carrying the tray of food you had made for husband with the help of the oldest boy who was a carbon copy of his dad were as Noah took after you.
Rowden gets up onto the king sized bed beside his younger brother trying to help him wake up Quinn.
You thought it was the cutest thing. They started to get frustrated when after all their jumping and chanting didn't work so they look over at you for help.
"Mama we need your help.." your oldest son spoke up looking at you with almost pleading eyes but that is when you noticed Quinn was awake the whole time.
Quinn knew he had always wanted to have kids and be a dad but when you told him you were pregnant with your guys oldest you both were barely twenty and he had just been drafted by the canucks, but he knew in his heart everything would work out and they did.
He had already been awake but stayed asleep because he heard you and the boys in the kitchen messing around and he also didn't want to get out of bed.
You let out a soft giggle noticing the big grin you fell in love covering your husband face as he pulls both of his boys into his arms which make them scream as thinking that there dad was still asleep.
Quinn starts attacking his sons with tickles which make them erupt in giggles and squeals as they try and fight against their dads tickle attacks.
You grin from ear to ear watching your husband play with your guys sons which makes you fall more in love with him.
Quinn stops tickling his sons glancing over at you with a smile saying "whatcha got mama bear?"
You let out a soft giggle saying "breakfast in bed for the hard working birthday boy"
Quinn's heart fills with so much warmth as He watches you walk over with the tray of food in your hands taking notices a box and drawn birthday cards on the tray.
He sits up after stopping the five and three year old who were fighting on whose card was better. you set the tray in his lap giving him a kiss on the lips.
Quinn starts looking at both the cards his sons had drawn him which made him chuckle a little as they weren't the best but he loves the cards.
Noah spoke up in his very much three year old way saying "happy birthday daddy"
Quinn chuckles then ruffing his youngest son's hair saying "thank you bud." He looks over at his oldest to which he says "thank you for the card and mama says you helped make breakfast is that true?"
Rowden nods grinning from ear to ear looking at his dad saying "I made you a cake too!"
Quinn eyes light up and he could feel his face start to hurt from smiling so much saying "I can't wait to try it bud"
You pick up the box that was on the tray handing it to him which made your hands shake a little which made the captain noticed but he didn't say anything.
Quinn takes the pretty blue box into his hand undoing the bow on top moving the lid to the blue box and looks inside find a little version of his captain's jersey and sonogram picture.
He nearly drops the box when seeing what is in the box saying "i'm going to be a dad again! this is the best present ever!"
He pulls you into a big kiss to which Rowden makes a big eww sound with noah copying him. Quinn wraps his arm around you holding you close forgetting about the tray of food.
"Happy Birthday Papa Bear We love you."

slow mornings | quinn hughes
a little dad!quinn blurb for your sunday evening <3
Tumblr media
The house was quiet. Too quiet for a Saturday morning.
Usually, Saturday mornings started early with Sophie climbing into Quinn and I's bed. This morning, though, I was the only one laying under the duvet. As I racked my brain, trying to remember if there was a reason I had been abandoned in the bed, I remembered that I'd never seen Quinn last night. He was supposed to get home after midnight, flying home from a five-day road trip.
The panic began to set in when I realized that I had no messages from Quinn, his phone wasn't on his bedside table, and -- most importantly -- he wasn't lying in bed next to me. Flinging the covers off, I made my way down the hall to Sophie's room, where I discovered that she too was missing. Deciding to venture downstairs, I could hear the faint sounds of music coming from the living room.
As I entered, my heart swelled at the sight in front of me. Laying on the couch, both asleep, was Sophie and Quinn. Sophie was cuddled into her dad's side and didn't appear to be waking up anytime soon.
I quickly snapped a picture of the two of them before leaning down and placing a kiss to the top of Quinn's head. His eyes fluttered open and a lazy grin came over his features.
"Hey," he mumbled. "Can I have a real kiss?"
I smiled at his request.
"You want me to give you a kiss after you abandoned me in our bed?"
He just continued smiling at me, knowing that I'd give in eventually. And I did, leaning back down to give Quinn a 'real kiss' before walking around the couch and sitting on the unoccupied side of Quinn's body. I leaned onto his side as his arm came to wrap around my waist. I was looking at the movie currently playing on the tv; Winnie the Pooh was currently one of Soph's favorites. She especially loved Eeyore.
"Eeyore's actually such an underrated character," Quinn said, as if he could read my mind.
"You and Soph are too much alike," I replied, earning a nudge from my husband.
"Who's your favorite then?"
I didn't reply, which was an answer enough for Quinn.
"There's nothing wrong with liking Eeyore, you know. His grumpiness is funny. And realistic."
"Fair point."
We both laid in comfortable silence for a while, watching the children’s movie, when I figured I’d bring up the potentially touchy subject of Quinn’s road trip, during which they’d lost two games and won one.
"How was the trip?"
The involuntary sigh that escaped his lips was all I really needed to know. Quinn had already confided in me about how frustrating it was for his team to be having such an awful season, especially compared to Jack's, but to also have to see so many of his teammates and people he considered to be good friends get traded away. He didn't talk about it in front of his parents or his brothers, specifically Jack, because he didn't want to make everyone listen to his pity party when he knew they really just wanted to be basking in the glory of Jack's first really good season in the NHL.
"It sucked," Quinn admitted, his arm gripping my waist a little tighter. “But it’s over now, so it’s whatever.”
I looked up to him, communicating with just my look that it, in fact, wasn’t whatever.
“Fine, fine. It just wasn’t fun overall. I didn’t play very well, and I missed you guys.”
Quinn had a pout on his face when I looked up at him. I couldn’t help myself but to lean up and kiss his jaw.
“We missed you too,” I informed him. “Soph watched every single minute of every game.”
As if she could hear us mention her name in her sleep, Sophie stirred. Wiggling around and rubbing her eyes. Upon her opening her eyes fully, she looked at Quinn, then at me, and did a double take back to Quinn, letting out a little gasp.
“Daddy!” she squealed and wrapped her arms around Quinn’s neck. Quinn chuckled but pulled her closer to his chest.
“Hey sweetheart. Have a good nap?”
The massive smile on Sophie’s face and the hands that were still clutching onto Quinn’s shirt were enough indication that she was more preoccupied with her father than to answer his question.
“Daddy, are you home now?”
The grin that graced Quinn’s features wavered slightly. While Soph was asking if Quinn was home, she was really asking if he was going to stay home.
“No baby, not yet.  I’m home this week, and then I’m going to see Uncle Trevor.”
She tried to mask her disappointment. After a moment, though, her features changed to one of curiosity and excitement.
“Oh. But can you ask him to bring me some candy? He always brings me candy when you see him,” she informed us.
I raised an eyebrow and side-eyed Quinn, who looked guilty.
“Uncle Trevor always brings you candy?”
“Yes!” she exclaimed. “Daddy brings it, but Uncle Trevor gives it to him to give to me.”
“Ah, I see.”
I decided to leave the subject of Trevor and Quinn conspiring to sneak our kid candy another time. Right now, though, I was going to spend the morning watching Disney movies.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
it was pure luck that you and lucas were in vancouver the same time they announced who was going to the all star games.
you’d been walking around with your son when you’d been asked or announce quinn’s selection.
lucas had run into the canucks locker room after the game and sat in his fathers stall. he was wearing quinn’s jersey but a new patch had been added onto the sides.
in his hands, lucas held three tickets for a plane ride to toronto in february.
despite the canucks loss, quinn smiled at the sight of his son in his stall and gave him a hug. the older hughes then turned to you and gave you a kiss on your cheek.
it wasn’t until the whole team had piled into the locker room did quinn notice the new patch on lucas jersey.
“hey buddy, what’s this?” quinn asked.
lucas looked at you before you gave him a slight nod.
“you’re going to the all star game daddy!” he exclaimed, giving his father a hug.
quinn was taken aback for a little before he hugged his son back.
“you mean we’re going to the all star games buddy,” he whispered.
the rest of the team got up and gave quinn a hug. the disappointment from the games results forgotten as they all congratulated their captain.
“uncle jacky and uncle mat are going too!” lucas exclaimed.
quinn was happy for his younger brother, but at this point he felt like he made his son proud by the way lucas was talking animatedly to his teammates.
on the ride back to quinn’s apartment, lucas knocked out on the backseat leading to quinn carrying the boy to his bed.
“lucas is a big hit with the fans,” you commented.
the team had posted the video of lucas announcing quinn’s selection. many comments spoke about how adorable lucas was and how he looked the splitting image of quinn.
“will you guys be there?” quinn asked.
you looked up from your phone and smiled.
“we’ll be there,” you answered softly.
quinn nodded a smile on his lips.

Family is Everything Series

a/n: sorry if this makes no sense.
Tumblr media
July 2031
"Come here baby." Quinn scooped the tired two year old out of the water and into his waiting arms. The two of them had been playing outside all day, it was time for a little break.
The summer had gone by a little too fast for his liking and it was almost time for the family to make the trek back to Vancouver. The Hughes family as a whole had celebrated practically everything this summer. From cup wins to birthdays and even a wedding. Nothing affected him more than his baby turning another year older.
"No Daddy. Down. Play in water." The small curly brunette child tried squirming out of her father's arms. Eden wasn't ready to done playing in the water she so deeply adored. She had just turned two, and she still thought she was ruler of the family.
"Eden, it's time to take a rest." Quinn's grip on his child tightened. He was not about to let her go ever no matter what she tried to do. "Auntie Ari and Uncle Lu are coming back today.” He watched as her face lit up at the mention of his youngest brother and new sister in law. “But you need some quiet time first."
“I big girl. No need nap.” Eden wriggled herself free, splashing down in the water.
“Get back here stinky.” Quinn chased after his daughter, giving her a little more time before he captured her, holding her closer this time. “You don’t need to take a nap. We could go inside by Mommy or we could sit in the hammock and chill for a bit.”
Eden in his youngest, and last child. Once Eden Rae was born he made a big promise to Y/N they were done having kids. He would make sure of it, something she gladly agreed to.
Out of his three children Eden was most likely his favorite. He knew he shouldn’t have favorites, as that could cause problems down the road. But he had had the most time with her when she was a baby. She was born during a low time in his life when he was still trying to get over a terrible injury and his marriage had been in shambles. His little Rae of Sunshine had been there.
And then there was the accident that almost took her from him. He didn’t know what he would do if any of his babies didn’t survive that terrible day. Eden had the worst chance of not making it out. He stayed by her side for hours watching her making sure she was still breathing. Even though he wasn’t at fault for the crash, he still wouldn’t have forgiven himself if hadn’t they survived.
"No mommy. Only daddy." Eden yawned and rubbed her tired little eyes. She puckered her lips and clicked her tongue against the roof of her mouth, blowing Quinn a kiss.
"I'm not going anywhere, don't worry." Quinn smiled lightly, starting to hum the song they had started singing to her while she was in the hospital. The child laid her head on his shoulder, her eyes getting heavier, the prospect of sleep getting harder to resist.
"Sing, daddy."
"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are gray." Quinn wasn't the greatest singer in the world, but he would do anything for the child.
He didn't even get halfway through the first verse when he heard soft snores. He still continued to sing softly, trying to soak up the time before his baby grew up and didn't need him anymore.

ice cream
pairing: dad!quinn hughes x mom!fem!reader
warnings: nothing!
summary: quinn is left to pick up you guys’ son from practice while you ran errands
a/n: doing this to avoid my calc work
masterlist: here
Tumblr media
you had some errands to run, so you had quinn pick up you guys’ son rhett from hockey practice.
quinn walks into the rink, somewhat familiar with it when he would come to help coach the pee-wees. he stands by the entrance of the ice, watching the kids who were waiting for their parents skate around.
he was so ecstatic when rhett came to him and said he wanted to do hockey. the atmosphere and the thrill of being on the ice was amazing and he was so glad he had something to share with his son.
“dad, i’m hungry.” yep, that’s his kid.
“hi hungry, i’m dad.” rhett gives quinn a straight face. for a five year old, he had a lot of sass. he definitely got that from you, quinn likes to believe.
quinn chuckles and crouches down so that he’s eye-level with him. his brown hair that he got from quinn was stuck to his forehead due to sweat. he was clutching his helmet in his right hand and in his left was his hockey stick.
“rhett, bud, we haven’t even left the rink yet.” rhett frowns and walks to where his stuff is. quinn waits for him, watching the others skate around. rhett shortly returns and he says bye to his coach and the other kids. taking his hand, quinn and him head to the car. rhett hoists himself into the car and quinn makes sure he’s buckled into his booster seat.
quinn’s not even buckled into his seat before rhett’s asking him a question.
“can we get ice cream?”
“you know what mommy says about having dessert before dinner.” rhett’s face contorts into a deep frown and in that moment, he swears rhett looks more like you than him. even though you like to say otherwise.
“buttttt, if we get ice cream, you can’t tell mommy, okay?” rhett perks up and nods his head excitedly. he knew that he was gonna get an earful from you when he got home.
soon, the two of them arrive at the small parlor and are heading inside.
“hi, can i get one chocolate cone and…” quinn looks down at rhett to see him trying to look over the counter at the flavors. he picks him up and watches his eyes scan the flavors.
“rocky road!”
“hey, what’s the magic word?” quinn nudges him
“please?” the worker behind the counter laughs and nods, making their cones as they stand there and wait. they then hand the two cones to the two and they take them, sitting down at a booth.
“so what’d you do at practice?”
“practiced passing pucks. i told coach i can score the goals on my own, but he said teamwork makes the dream work.” rhett sighs out, making his dad laugh.
“he’s right, bud. sometimes i don’t like passing the puck either, but your team is one of the most important things there is in hockey.” rhett sits there and thinks for a minute.
“i guess i’ll start passing the puck.” quinn softly smiles and the two of them finish their ice cream before they’re back in the car on the way home. they jammed out to the moana soundtrack (which mainly consisted of rhett playing you’re welcome on repeat).
you car is parked in the driveway when the two of them arrive home. rhett unbuckles his seatbelt and he bolts inside.
“mommy, dad gave me ice cream!” quinn’s eyes widen and he slowly walks inside.
“oh did he?” he heard your voice from the kitchen. he decides to man up and round the corner and he sees you standing there with rhett propped on your hip.
“did he tell you about practice today?” he tries to change the subject, acting as if he didn’t just hear his own spawn snitch on him (talk about betrayal).
“he did not. but he did tell me you bought him ice cream.” damnit.
“i know, i know. but i figured just one time won’t hurt.” you sigh
“you’re right. it won’t hurt. but if he can’t go to sleep tonight, you’re staying awake with him until he does.” quinn nods, walking over to you and placing a kiss on your forehead.
“it’s a lot better than the couch.” this elicits a laugh out of you and quinn smiles. he loved his little family.

"I'm trying my best to keep you satisfied Let you get your rest, while I stayed up all night"
Honey tiptoed down the dimly lit hallway, her slippers brushing against hardwood as she neared her daughter's door, warm milk in hand as she rounded the corner. The soft glow from Hayden’s nightlight seeped out from under her bedroom door, casting a gentle light that barely reached the hall. She paused, her hand hovering over the door handle, listening to the faint, rhythmic breathing from inside. Finally, it seemed Hayden was asleep.
It had been a long and tiresome evening. Hayden had been restless, unable to settle down no matter what Honey tried. There were lullabies, stories, and even a glass of warm milk that now remained untouched in Honey's hands as she let out a content sigh. Nothing seemed to work and Honey could feel her patience fraying with each passing hour, but she kept her voice soothing and her movements gentle, knowing her daughter needed her calm presence more than anything else.
The woman took a deep breath and slowly opened the door, peeking around the corner to ensure Hayden was indeed asleep. Her daughter lay curled up under the covers, clutching her favourite stuffed orca, its worn material peeked out from the blanket. Honey's heart ached with a mixture of love and exhaustion at the sight, quietly rejoicing at the fact she could finally crawl back into her own bed after nearly an hour of restless crying.
She tiptoed inside, gently adjusting the blanket around Hayden’s small frame, then placed a soft kiss on her forehead. “Sweet dreams, my love,” she whispered as her fingers flattened out her messy curls before slipping out of the room.
She made her way to the master bedroom, her body feeling heavy with fatigue. The door creaked as she pushed it open, revealing the familiar silhouette of Quinn already in bed. His back was turned to her, his breathing deep and steady, indicating he was fast asleep.
Honey sighed, her shoulders slumping as she quietly closed the door behind her. She changed into one of Quinn’s old shirts and a pair of shorts, her movements slow and deliberate, the weight of the day pressing down on her as she examined her tired eyes in the mirror.
Climbing into bed, she reached out to touch Quinn, seeking comfort in his warmth, “Quinn?” she whispered, her voice barely audible as her fingers raked through his bed head. He mumbled something incoherent, rolling over to the other side, his body curling away from her touch. Honey's hand fell limply onto the mattress. The rejection, however unintentional, stung more than she expected. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she blinked rapidly, trying to hold them back.
She lay on her back, staring up at the ceiling. The room was enveloped in darkness, the only sound the gentle hum of the fan above their bed. The tears she'd been holding in began to spill over, sliding silently down her cheeks. She covered her mouth with her hand, stifling the cries that threatened to escape.
Honey's mind raced, thoughts tumbling over each other in a chaotic swirl. She felt an overwhelming sense of loneliness, despite Quinn's presence just inches away. The day’s events replayed in her mind: Hayden’s sleeplessness, the unending chores, hockey filling every aspect of her life, and the constant demands of motherhood. And now this—the coldness of the night, the silence between her and Quinn.
She turned her head to look at him, his form just a dark outline against the cream-coloured sheets, his face turned away from her so she couldn't admire the man she loved the most. She remembered the early days of their marriage, when they couldn't wait to be close to each other, when even a goodnight kiss felt like a cherished ritual. Now, it seemed like a distant memory, replaced by exhaustion.

"And you don't wanna know how alone I've been Let you come and go, whatever I state I'm in"
Honey sat in the stands, the metal was cold and unforgiving beneath her legging-covered legs, stinging her skin as she listened to the sounds of sticks on ice and skates cutting the ice. She adjusted her position, tucking a blanket around her legs for warmth, and glanced at her watch for what felt like the hundredth time.
Where was Quinn?
Warren’s hockey game was well underway, it was the biggest game of the year, the tryouts for the BC Junior Canucks team for the Brick Tournament Invitational. The players glided across the ice with practiced precision, the sound of hockey echoing through the arena as they all worked to get a spot of the team for one of the biggest tournaments for the children of Vancouver.
She could see Hayden a few rows down, playing among the other kids, their faces lit with excitement as they rang the tiny cowbells in their hands and cheered on their siblings, friends, and family members on the ice. Honey smiled despite herself, the sight of her daughter’s joy lighting her mood as Hayd looked over to her and grinned as she sent her mom an excited wave. She turned her attention back to the ice, cheering loudly as Warren made a skillful pass to a teammate.
The other moms were gathered in clusters around her, chatting and laughing, their voices a backdrop to the action on the ice. Honey tried to engage, nodding and smiling at the appropriate moments, but she had trouble meshing with the other women within the room, and besides her mind was elsewhere.
Quinn had promised to be here. He’d assured her he’d make it this time, that he wouldn’t let Warren down again, or make her create excuses for his absences.
As if on cue, she heard a familiar buzz ripple through the stands. Turning, she saw Quinn making his way down the aisle, offering sheepish smiles and waves to the guardians who greeted him warmly.
He was almost an hour late, but his arrival was met with an outpouring of praise.
Typical
“There he is!” one of the Dads exclaimed, clapping Quinn on the back as he made his way to his wife. “He's so supportive my god” a mother mumbled to another, "and so handsome."
Honey’s heart clenched, she watched as Quinn accepted the adoration, his face flushed from the cold or perhaps embarrassment. He caught her eye and gave her a small, apologetic smile before making his way over to her. She forced herself to smile back, though it felt like a big lie.
“Hey, sorry I’m late, Tocch was relentless today,” he said, sliding onto the bench next to her, his arm wrapping around her as he pulled her into his side, ruining the perfectly tucked blanket under her legs to be pressed up against him. “It’s okay,” Honey replied, her voice softer than she intended. “Warren’s been playing really well.” Quinn nodded, his attention shifting to the game. Honey could feel the eyes of the other moms on them, their whispered comments just loud enough to be heard.
“He’s such a good dad,” one woman said. “He must be so busy with work, but he always makes time for his family,” another chimed in.
Honey bit her lip, feeling the sting of their words. She wanted to confront them, let them in on the fact that it wasn’t the whole truth, that she was the one who shouldered most of the burdens at home, the one who stayed up late with Hayden, the one who made sure Warren got to his practices on time. But she stayed silent, the weight of her unspoken frustrations pressing down on her as she leaned into her husband's side, cheek pressed up against her shoulder as they watched their son as his hand held hers in his lap.
The game continued, and Quinn joined in the cheers and shouts, his enthusiasm contagious. Honey watched him, a mixture of love and resentment swirling in her chest. He had this effortless way of charming everyone, of making his rare appearances seem like grand gestures of devotion.
Meanwhile, her constant presence and her relentless efforts went unnoticed by all.
As the final buzzer sounded, Warren’s team erupted in cheers. They had won, and the stands were a flurry of excitement as the boys piled on top of each other, slipping all over the ice as they screamed with excitement. Warren skated over to the boards, his face flushed with pride as he slammed into the glass ingront of his family, Honey couldn’t help but smile at him.
Warren beamed at the sight of his dad, his eyes bright as he looked up at his parents, “did you see my goal?” he looked at his father with excited eyes as Quinn nodded. “You did awesome bud!” Quinn replied, completely ignoring Warren's question as he motioned for his son to go and join the rest of the team in the locker room Honey stood, gathering her things. “Come on, Hayden, let’s go get your brother,” she called, her voice steady as Hayd separated from her friends and ran over to her parents, jumping into Quinn's arms as they headed in the direction of the locker room.
They made their way down to the locker room, joining the crowd of parents and children waiting for the swarm of sweaty lost game kids. Honey hugged Warren tightly, her heart swelling with pride. She glanced at Quinn, who was chatting animatedly with the other dads and felt a pang of loneliness.
As they walked to the car, Warren and Hayden chattering excitedly about the game, Honey felt Quinn’s arm slip around her shoulders. She looked up at him, his face softened with a rare tenderness that she hadn't seen in a while. “I’m really sorry I was late,” he said quietly. “I’ll do better, I promise.” Honey nodded, swallowing the lump in her throat, “I know you will,” she whispered.
Honey allowed herself to hope that maybe, just maybe, things would get better.

"Man, am I the greatest? My congratulations. All my love and patience, all my admiration. All the times I waited for you to want me naked. Made it all look painless (painless), man, am I the greatest?"
Bedtime was Honey’s favourite time of the day.
She helped Hayden into her pyjamas and listened to the recounting of her playdate with her best friend Paige. After a few bedtime stories and a goodnight kiss, Hayden finally drifted off to sleep, the woman tucked the blankets around her daughter, smoothing the hair from her forehead before turning on her pink butterfly nightlight and off the big light.
In Warren’s room, Quinn was already saying goodnight. Honey joined them, pressing a kiss to Warren's temple and sat quietly as Quinn finished up his bedtime story. She lingered in the doorway, watching as Quinn gave their son a goodnight kiss and ruffled his hair.
“Love you,” Quinn said, his voice warm. “Night, Mom. Night, Dad,” Warren said, his eyes heavy with sleep. “Goodnight baby,” Honey replied softly.
They walked down the hallway together, and the house finally quieted. Honey’s heart beat faster as they approached the door to their bedroom. She longed for Quinn’s touch, for the intimacy that had become so rare. She needed to feel loved, to bridge the distance that seemed to grow wider each day.
As they entered their bedroom, Quinn went straight to their bathroom, starting his usual nighttime routine. Honey changed into a soft nightgown, choosing one she knew he liked, she looked at herself for a second, nitpicking her appearance and trying to shake the ugly feeling that had been brewing in her chest. She sat on the edge of the bed, nervously waiting for him to return.
When Quinn finally came out, face washed and changed he looked tired. He crossed the room and climbed into bed, pulling the covers up and lying back with a sigh. Honey took a deep breath and moved closer to him, reaching out to touch his arm.
“Quinn,” she whispered, her voice trembling slightly, embarrassed at the words about to leave her mouth, “can we... It’s been a while, and I miss you.” He turned his head to look at her, his eyes dull with exhaustion. “Honey, I’m really tired. It’s been a long day,” he mumbled, shifting slightly to put more distance between them as he pulled the comforter up to his chest.
“But,” she said, her voice cracking, “I just- I thought maybe- I miss being close to you.” Quinn sighed heavily, his frustration evident. “I know, Honey, but not tonight, okay? I just don’t have the energy.”
Honey’s heart sank.
She withdrew her hand, feeling the sting of rejection deep in her chest. She turned onto her back, staring up at the ceiling, her eyes filling with tears. She felt Quinn shift beside her, but he didn’t reach out, didn’t try to comfort her.
The silence between them was deafening.
She bit her lip, the darkness of the room seemed to press in on her, amplifying her loneliness, the coldness that occupied the space between them. She felt a profound sense of isolation, even with Quinn lying just inches away. She turned her head to look at Quinn, hoping for some sign that he still cared, that he still wanted her, not even intimately, just in general. But he lay still, his back turned, lost in his own world of exhaustion and detachment.
Honey closed her eyes, the ache in her chest growing unbearable. The rejection was too fresh, the pain too much as she silent tears soaking into the pillow. Reminiscing of a time when Quinn would look at her the way he once did, with love and desire in his eyes.

"Doing what's right without a reward And we don't have to fight, when it's not worth fighting for (fighting for)"
The sun had set and tensions remained high between Quinn and Honey, the couple was now en route to the yearly Canucks for Kids charity ball.
The silence in the car was thick and uncomfortable, both of them lost in their own thoughts. Honey stared out the window, watching the street lights beginning to turn on as they sped down the highway, her fingers nervously twisting the fabric of her dress. Quinn’s grip on the steering wheel was tight, his jaw clenched as he tried to ignore the fraying ends of a very happy relationship.
It wasn’t supposed to be like this, Honey thought, her mind drifting to the previous night’s rejection and the growing abyss between them. She had hoped that tonight’s event might provide a chance to rekindle the growing disconnect, to be with the people closest to him and enjoy each other, but now, it felt like just another obligation, another performance.
“Can we talk about last night?” Honey finally asked, breaking the silence. Quinn sighed, his eyes fixed on the road ahead. “Honey, I’m really not in the mood for this right now. We have to be at this event in fifteen minutes, can’t we just focus on that?” “No, Quinn. We can’t keep ignoring this,” Honey insisted, her voice rising slightly. “We’re falling apart, and you don’t seem to care. I’m trying to reach out to you, but you keep pushing me away.”
“I do care, Honey, but I’m exhausted,” Quinn replied, frustration creeping into his tone, “I have a lot on my plate right now, with the team and home, and I can’t deal with everything at once.” “And I’m not exhausted? I’m not dealing with a lot?” Honey shot back, her anger roaring at his constant invalidation of her issues, “It’s not just about you, Quinn. We’re both in this, and we both need to make an effort.”
Quinn glanced at her, his expression a mix of weariness and annoyance, his grip on the wheel slightly tightening as he turned back to look at the road. “I know you’re tired too, but right now we need to get through this evening. Can we please just put on a smile and get through it, we can argue more later tonight if that's what you wanna do.” Honey swallowed hard, feeling the sting of his words, “Fine,” she said quietly, turning back to the window.
“Let’s just get through it.”
They pulled up to the venue, the grand entrance lit with lights and green and blue balloons creating a walkway for attendees. The valet took the car, and Quinn and Honey stepped out, their faces immediately transforming into practiced smiles. Honey looped her arm through Quinn’s, her grip tighter than necessary as he looked at her pointedly.
As they walked into the lavishly decorated ballroom, they were greeted with warm smiles and enthusiastic welcomes. Quinn’s colleagues and their spouses mingled, laughter and chatter filling the air. Honey plastered a bright smile on her face, the mask of contentment slipping into place.
“Honey, Captain Hughes! So glad you could make it!” one of the Canucks investors called out jokingly throwing the nickname to grab their attention, shaking Quinn’s hand and giving Honey a polite kiss on the cheek, “You both look wonderful.” “Thank you,” Honey replied, her voice sweet and soft, “they outdid themselves again this year” “Don't be modest Hun," Quinn said sincerely, "She's on the board, she helped with the planning." “Well then thank you for your hard work against this year!”
They made their way through the crowd, exchanging pleasantries and making small talk. Honey’s smile never wavered, even as her heart ached with the unresolved tension between her and Quinn. She watched him interact effortlessly, his charm and charisma on full display.
To everyone else, they were the perfect couple, a united front.
As the evening progressed, Honey found herself at the edge of the dance floor, watching couples sway to the music. She glanced over at Quinn, who was deep in conversation with a group of donors. He caught her eye and gave her a small, awkward smile, she could see his anticipation to get away from the networking and back at her side.
It was like a short moment of the old Quinn, awkward, in love with her, she missed it.
Taking a deep breath, Honey walked over to him, her steps deliberate and aching to save him and have her close once again. “Sorry guys, you wouldn't mind if I stole my husband for a dance would you?” she asked, her voice steady despite the turmoil inside her. He hesitated for a moment before nodding and excusing him. “Happy wife, Happy life,” he joked, excusing himself from the conversation and taking her hand.
They moved onto the dance floor, the music enveloping them. Quinn placed a hand on Honey’s waist, and she rested hers on his shoulder. They swayed to the rhythm, their movements stiff and mechanical at first. Gradually, the music loosened the tension.
“I’m sorry,” Honey whispered, her voice barely audible over the melody, “I don’t want to fight. I just want us to be okay.” “I know,” Quinn replied, his tone softer now as her cheek pressed against his shoulder as she melted into him slightly, “I’m sorry too. We’ll figure this out, Honey. We have to.”

"And you don't wanna know what I would've done Anything at all, worse than anyone"
The warming morning sun filtered through the kitchen window, casting a warm glow over the room. Honey poured herself a cup of coffee, savouring the brief moment of calm before the day’s chaos began.
Quinn’s mother, Ellen, had come for a short visit, and Honey was grateful for the company during this long stretch of away games.
Ellen entered the kitchen, her blonde hair neatly pulled back into a clip, a gentle smile on her face as she looked to her daughter in law through the glasses on the bridge of her nose.
“Morning, Honey. How did you sleep?” “Morning, it wasn't too bad,” Honey replied, though the truth was she had barely slept, she gestured to the coffee pot, “Can I get you a cup?” “Please,” Ellen said, taking a seat at the kitchen table across from where Honey's book lay open face down on the table.
Honey poured a second cup and handed it to her mother-in-law before sitting down across from her. They sipped their coffee in comfortable silence for a few moments, the only sounds that occupied the air were the birds chirping outside and the distant buzz of people getting in their cars and heading to work.
“How are things, Hun?” Ellen asked, her eyes soft with concern, “you look tired.” Honey sighed, setting her cup down. “It’s been... well it's been challenging lately,” she admitted, “Quinn and I are struggling a bit and the kid's lives are starting to get busier. We’re both so occupied and exhausted, and it's been a lot.”
Ellen reached across the table, placing a comforting hand over Honey’s, “Marriage isn’t always easy, especially when life gets demanding.” “I just don’t know what to do anymore,” Honey said, her voice trembling, “I try to reach out to him, but he’s always so tired or preoccupied. And when I bring it up, we end up arguing,” the tears started as she quickly wiped them away and stared at her coffee cup.
“I just feel so lonely,” she admitted, a little weight lifting off of her chest as her free hand drummed on the table.
Ellen nodded, her expression thoughtful, “I can see how much you’re hurting. Clearly, you love Quinn and want to make things work.” “I do,” Honey said, tears welling up in her eyes, “I just don’t know how to get through to him.”
It felt weird admitting all of this to her husband's mother, but Ellen always listened, always advised, and she knew how to make things better.
Ellen squeezed her hand gently, “Quinn’s always been the type to shoulder burdens silently, thinking he’s protecting those he loves, you need to confront that Hun, he needs to know he's hurting you.”
If there was one thing Ellen felt deeply about it was accountability, and that belief did not fall blindly in her sons.
Honey wiped a tear from her cheek. “So, what do I do?” “Sometimes, it helps to approach these conversations when the tension is lower.” Honey nodded, “It’s hard to find a good moment with him lately,” she dryly laughed, such a bizarre thought to infer that Quinn was difficult when he had always been nothing less than perfect for the entirety of their marriage up until this point.
Ellen smiled kindly, “he’ll listen Hun, you just have to be honest with him and not hold back that you're hurting.
The older woman leaned back in her chair, her gaze distant for a moment. “You know, Honey, when Jim and I were your age, we went through something similar. There were times we barely spoke, he had coaching, and I had the boys and worked on top of it. It took a lot of patience, and we both had to learn to communicate better.” Honey looked at Ellen with a newfound level of respect, something so eye-opening about the vulnerability that occupied the space between them.
“How did you get through it?” “By remembering why we fell in love in the first place,” Ellen said softly, “We made an effort to fix it, we moved around so I wouldn't be the primary caregiver while he was off coaching, we started to make quality time a priority, and we sought help when we needed it. There’s no shame in asking for guidance, whether from a counsellor or someone else.”
Honey nodded, feeling a glimmer of hope. “Thank you, Ellen. I really needed to hear that.” Ellen smiled warmly. “You and Quinn have a strong relationship. Sometimes, it just takes a bit of work to clear away the aggravation and find the connection again.”

"Man, am I the greatest? My congratulations. All my love and patience, all my admiration. All the times I waited for you to want me naked. Made it all look painless (painless), man, am I the greatest?"
Honey sat at the kitchen table, the house eerily quiet with Quinn away on a road trip. The kids were asleep, and the only sound was the ticking of the wall clock and the microwave that was reheating the dinner that she hadn't had the chance to eat until everything settled for the night.
She stared at her phone, the screen glowing softly in the dim light. She had been debating whether to call Quinn, wanting to bridge the gap between them, but fearing another argument. Taking a deep breath, she dialled his number.
It rang a few times before he answered, his voice crackling through the line. “Hey, Hun,” Quinn said, sounding tired but happy to hear from her. “How are things at home?”
“Hi, love,” Honey replied, her voice heavy with fatigue as she finally took a deep breath at the sound of his voice, “I just wanted to talk. I’ve been feeling a little overwhelmed this trip.”
She could hear the concern in his voice, “I know, Honey. I’ve been thinking about you and the kids a lot. How’s Hayden? And Warren?” “They’re good,” Honey said, managing a small smile despite her exhaustion, “Hayden had trouble sleeping again last night, and Warren’s been busy with his big science project. It’s just... a lot to handle on my own.” Quinn sighed, “I wish I could be there to help more. I know it’s hard.”
“It’s not just about the help anymore Quinn. I miss you. I miss us.”
There was a pause on the other end, and Honey could almost hear him thinking, “Have you ever thought of quitting your job to have more time for them?” Honey’s grip tightened on the phone, her breath catching in her throat at such a stupid question on his end, “What did you just say?”
“I mean,” Quinn continued, seemingly oblivious to the storm brewing on the other end, “if you weren’t so stressed with work, maybe things would be easier at home. You could focus on the kids more, and we wouldn’t be so—” “Are you being serious?” Honey interrupted, her voice rising with anger. "I just—"
“You think quitting my job is the solution? You think I should just give up my career, something I’ve worked so hard for, just to make things easier for you?” “That’s not what I meant, Honey,” Quinn said, his tone defensive, “I just thought it might help—” “Help who? You?” Honey’s voice shook with rage and hurt.
“You’re away playing hockey, doing what you love, and you think I should just abandon my dreams and ambitions to pick up the slack? I’ve supported you every step of the way, and now you want me to sacrifice my career for you?”
“Honey, please,” Quinn pleaded. “I didn’t mean it like that.” But it was too late. The words had already cut deep, and Honey felt a surge of betrayal
“You have no idea what it’s like to balance everything, to be there for the kids, to manage the house, and still try to hold onto a piece of myself, don't even get me started on the way you have torn apart our marriage with your 'tired because of the team' bullshit. You don’t get to tell me to give up my job.” “Honey, let’s not fight—” Quinn started, but Honey couldn’t listen anymore. “Goodbye, Quinn,” she said, her voice icy. She hung up the phone, her hands trembling with anger and frustration.
She sat there for a moment, staring at the phone, the weight of the conversation pressing down on her. Tears blurred her vision as she thought about all the sacrifices she had already made, the nights spent alone, and the unending juggling act of her responsibilities.
The silence of the house felt oppressive, and for the first time, she wondered how they would get through this. The gap between them seemed wider than ever, and she wasn’t sure how to bridge it.
★★★
"The greatest"
Honey stared at her phone as it buzzed on the kitchen counter, Quinn’s name lighting up the screen. She let it ring, her heart heavy with the weight of their last conversation. She couldn’t bring herself to answer, not yet. The anger and hurt were still too fresh, the sting of his words too sharp.
Days passed, and Honey continued to ignore Quinn’s calls, burying herself in her work and the kids’ activities, sending short texts with breakdowns of the kid's days, and a few pictures, but not an ounce of love or forgiveness settling in the words. She knew she couldn’t avoid him forever, but she needed time to process, to find a way to articulate her feelings without exploding.
One evening, as she was putting Hayden to bed, she heard the front door open. Quinn was home.
“Mommy, is Daddy back?” Hayden asked, her eyes wide with excitement. Honey forced a smile. “Yes, baby, Daddy’s home," she tucked Hayden in, and kissed her goodnight, "he'll see you in the morning when you wake up okay?” she promised and headed downstairs, her stomach in knots.
Quinn stood in the living room, looking exhausted and worried, his eyes met hers, and she could see the desperation in them. “Honey,” he began, stepping towards her. “please, we need to talk,” his voice trembling, slightly pathetic from the days of worrying about the fate of their marriage and family.
She folded her arms, keeping her distance, “What is there to talk about, Quinn? You made it pretty clear how you feel.” Quinn ran a hand through his hair, frustration and regret etched on his face, “that’s not fair. I didn’t mean it the way it came out."
"I just want to find a way to make things easier for both of us.” Honey shook her head, her anger simmering just about to reach boiling point, “you think the solution is for me to give up my job, my dreams? Do you have any idea how insulting that is? I'm a great wife and a great mother, and you treat me so less than."
"I loved you, and I still do"
“I know, I know,” Quinn said, his voice pleading, “I was wrong. I didn’t think it through. But please, we can’t keep doing this. We need to figure it out together.”
She looked at him, the pain of their disconnect weighing heavily on her, “do you even think I’m attractive anymore, Quinn?” His eyes widened in shock. “What? Of course I do, why would you even ask that?” Honey’s voice wavered, her vulnerability laid bare, “Because you never touch me, you never look at me the way you used to. I feel invisible to you, I feel ugly.” Quinn took a step closer, his expression softening as he reached out to her but she moved away from his grasp, “Honey, you’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever known. I’ve been so caught up in everything else, I’ve forgotten to show you that. But I do, I really do find you attractive. I love you.”
Tears welled up in Honey’s eyes, the words she had longed to hear both comforting and painful, “then why do I feel so alone? Quinn, we could be in the same room, the same bed even, and yet it feels like you're not even in the room.” “I loved you, Quinn. I still do,” she whispered, her voice choked with emotion. “I just want to feel like you love me back."
"Just wanted passion from you, just wanted what I gave you"
Quinn's hand finally found hers, his eyes pleading as she squeezed his hand and collapsed into his chest, “I know, Honey. I’ve been so wrapped up in everything else that I forgot about us. I’m sorry. I need you to know that I love you more than anything.” “I want to believe you, Quinn,” Honey said, tears streaming down her cheeks and she pulled away from his hold and wiped her tears, “but I’m worth so much more. I need time.”
Quinn nodded, his stare not leaving her frame as she met his intensity with hers, "I want to fix this hun." Honey looked away, feeling the weight of his words. She wanted to hold onto the hope that things could get better, but it all felt a little too fresh. “Okay,” she said softly, pulling her hands away, “We’ll see.”
"I've waited and waited"
Honey lay in bed alone after Quinn opted to sleep on the couch, her thoughts fuelled by emotions and the room felt heavy with the weight of their unresolved issues.
As the hours ticked by, Honey felt a sense of longing settles in her chest, a deep ache for the old them that they had lost. She thought about all the times she had waited, waited for Quinn to come home, waited for him to notice her, waited for him to understand the depth of her love.
But tonight, as she lay there in the darkness, she realized that she couldn’t wait any longer.
★★★★
"Man, am I the greatest? God, I hate it. All my love and patience, unappreciated You said your heart was jaded, you couldn't even break it I shouldn't have to say it You could have been the greatest"
The morning after the big blow-up felt comfortable like a weight was lifted from her conscience as she made her way downstairs, the familiar sounds of the house greeted her—the soft hum of the coffee maker, the faint laughter of her children playing in the living room. She smiled at the feeling of familiarity that lay in the simplicity of their little family.
Quinn sat at the kitchen table, sipping his morning coffee, his eyes filled with a mixture of apprehension and hope as he looked up at her. “Honey, I’ve been thinking...” But before he could finish, Honey held up a hand, stopping him mid-sentence. “Quinn, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking too.”
Quinn’s brow furrowed in confusion, but Honey could see the glimmer of understanding dawning in his eyes as she continued, what looked to be tears lined his eyes and he nodded and ducked his head down.
It's really over, he thought to himself
“I realized that I’ve been waiting for something that may never come,” she said, her voice steady and resolute, “I’ve waited for you to see me, to appreciate me, to love me the way I deserve. But I can’t wait any longer.” Quinn’s expression softened, his gaze searching hers for understanding. “Honey, I dont—”
But Honey interrupted him, a smile playing at the corners of her lips. “I’ve realized that I don’t need to wait for anyone to validate my worth. I am enough, just as I am. And I deserve someone who sees that, who appreciates all that I am.” Quinn’s eyes widened in realization, a regret crossing his face as his hand reached for hers, “I know I’ve taken you for granted, and I’ve made so many mistakes, but I hope you know that I love you, more than anything. I want to make it right.”
Honey's thumb ran over his knuckles, her heart overflowing with love and forgiveness. “I know you do, Quinn, and I love you too, I need to see It though, I need to see you showing up, and I expect you to make an effort for me and for our kids.” Quinn nodded, his eyes shining with determination. “I promise, Honey, I promise to be the partner you deserve.”
Honey smiled, feeling a sense of peace settle over her. “I believe you, Quinn,” her gaze travelled over to where their kids sat on the couch, and her gaze fell back onto him, a shy smile on his face as she settled in the seat next to his, thighs pressed against each other as they feel back into the comfort of one another. He pressed a sweet kiss to her lips as his hands found the sides of her face, he pulled away first, cheeks ablaze as she grinned at his sudden shyness.
Quinn was her greatest love, and they were imperfect and flawed, but infinitely beautiful. Together, they had weathered storms and overcome obstacles, their love stronger and more resilient with each passing day. And as they sat there, surrounded by the laughter and love of their family, Honey knew that they were exactly where they were meant to be—wrapped in each other’s arms, ready to face whatever the future held, together.

ice cream? | dad!quinn hughes

request: can you write another one like your uncle jack story? i loveddd it!! maybe jack and luke are babysitting quinn’s daughter. i feel like they’d mac and cheese for dinner and both completely struggle doing it. and when it’s bedtime the toddler has a tantrum and they so gentle with her (but also kinda freaking out and don’t know what to do) and end up giving her ice cream and letting her watch a movie with them and she falls asleep on one of them. and quinn and mom come home like really guys?! you let a three year old tell you what to do
word count: 1.2k
“What are you doing? you don't put the tinfoil bit in the microwave?!” Jack scolded his younger brother Luke as he yanked open the microwave before it set itself on fire.
Luke stood dumbfounded, “how else are you supposed to cook it?”
the “it” in question being a mini cup of mac and cheese. Quinn thought it would be the safest dinner option and yet…
“Okay, let me do this you go entertain the baby” Jack shoos Luke away and towards an adorable toddler who smiled gummily up at her uncles.
Luke scoops the little girl up, who giggles all the way to the couch. Luke plops them both down and reaches for the tv remote.
“Shit!” Jack swears as he rips the microwave open. “Luke! You put in too much water!”
Luke clicks the volume up on the tv. “You like paw patrol! Yeah, let's watch paw patrol!” Luke cheers to his niece who continues to giggle at her uncle's antics.
“Doggy!” the little girl shouts as she points at the screen. Luke nods enthusiastically as he tunes out Jack's grumblings from the kitchen.
15 minutes later, dinner was served.
Luke picked at his plate, “dude…”
“if you say that this is gross i swear…” Jack cut in.
Before a small fight could break out, both brothers' attention were brought to the little girl in the high chair. “Yummy!” she smiled, lifting up her little plastic spoon and shovelling more of the questionable mac and cheese into her mouth.
“ha! She likes it!”
“Jack… she's 2.. She was eating canned mashed peas like a month ago,” Luke replies.
Jack scowls. “It's literally your fault that the mac and cheese-”
“Play now!” their niece once again recaptures their attention as she shows them her empty plate.
Jack gets up from the table and takes his niece out of her high chair.
After an hour of playing, the brothers get a text.

quinn: Put my baby to bed now it's getting late. If she gets a little fussy read her another bedtime story she usually falls asleep after two stories.
“your daddy says it's bedtime!” Jack coos to the little girl sitting in front of him and she immediately starts pouting.
She throws the bright red block she's holding and yells, “no!”
“Luke, you wanna put her to bed?” Jack asks as he watches the toddler throw a small tantrum. She was rolling around on the floor now, toys long forgotten.
“No sleep! No sleep!” she repeated, looking up at her uncles with her infamous puppy dog eyes.
Luke walks over and picks her up off the floor. “Why don't we go read a story! That's so much fun!” Luke exclaims happily and the little girl in his arms continues to frown.
“yeah let's read a story!” Jack cheers in an attempt to get the young girl to stop pouting. “I love stories!”
“No!” she shouts again.
Luke ignores her shouts, and carries her into her bedroom where she continues to pout. “Uncle Jacks going to pick out a really fun book while I get you ready for bed, okay?”
“No!”
After 20 minutes of fighting with the young girl, she was finally all ready for bed. As soon as she was in her crib, she immediately settled down and was happy to hear her story. She insisted on both of her uncles reading to her, and by the time they were done the first story she had already drifted off to sleep.
Jack and Luke sat in the living room, both on their phones as they waited for their brother and his wife to return.
“Wow this has been really easy!” Luke joked.
Jack looked over, rolling his eyes. “You almost burnt down the apartment”
“Yeah but the baby's asleep now so does it really matter?”
Jack shakes his head, “i’m not even going to reply to that”
“‘ACK! ‘UKE!” the wails of their niece ring out through the quiet apartment.
Both boys look at each other, and then immediately rush into their niece's bedroom. “What's up?” Jack coos, voice soft as he approaches the little girl with tears streaming down her face.
The little girl continues to cry. She stands up by the edge of the crib and holds her arms out to her uncles. Luke takes the hint and lifts the girl out of her crib and into his arms.
“No sleep” she whispers against her uncle Luke's chest and both boys stare blankly at each other.
“But you have to go to sleep,” Luke tries, but the girl shakes her head.
“No!” she cries.
The cries only get worse, so Jack has the brilliant idea of feeding the girl some ice cream.
“Two year olds can have ice cream right?” he asks as he pulls the large tub out of his older brother's freezer.
Luke nods, “yeah i'm sure vanilias safe for kids”  he shrugs the shoulder that his niece is not laying against.
“You want some ice cream?” Jack asks as he holds a baby spoon up with a tiny bit of ice cream. The girl eagerly nods and reaches one hand out for the spoon.
The boys move to the couch, the little girl sat between them with her little bowl of ice cream in her lap. A movie softly plays in the background, lulling the girl to sleep with her hand in her ice cream bowl and head pressed against her uncle jack.
At the sound of the front door unlocking, both boys sit upright. “Shit! Don't wake her up!” Luke whisper-shouts as he stands up and starts clearing off the coffee table. There was ice cream everywhere, courtesy of the sleeping 2 year old clinging to Jack's side.
“Take her bowl!” Jack whispers as he tries to lift the baby's hand out of the sticky bowl.
“You gave my daughter ice cream before bed?” Quinn questions, surveying the messy kitchen and living room.
Luke, hands full of the incriminating ice cream bowls, shrugs. “She’s teething?” he says, but it comes out more of a question.
“My baby's teething? Are her molars coming through?” your worried voice drifts through the apartment as you step inside.
“No!”
“Yes!”
Jack and Luke both speak at the same time.
“Right… okay i’ll take my baby back now!” Quinn speaks. When he reaches down to lift his daughter up though, he sees her ice cream coated hands. Quinn doesn't have to say anything.
“Right well! This was really nice so…"Jack trails off when Quinn finally has his daughter in his arms. She was asleep, so what did it really matter if she had some ice cream?
“Yeah! I’ll see you next time!” Luke says, retreating into the guest bedroom.
“Yeah, what he said! It's been great!” Jack mimics Luke.
“You're cleaning this up tomorrow,” Quinn's voice is fully in dad mode as he looks around the messy room.
Jack nods enthusiastically before bidding the small family his goodnights.
“Thank you for babysitting!” you whisper yell, which Jack responds with a quick thumbs up.
A second later the guest bedroom door is clicked shut and Quinn and you are left standing in your quiet living room.
“They're never babysitting again” Quinn sighs, looking down at his daughter who was covered in ice cream.
“No, they're not” you sigh, leaning over and pressing a soft kiss to your daughter's forehead. “Letting a 2 year old tell them what to do… you got those boys wrapped around your finger!” you whisper to your little girl.

You laid beside Quinn in your bed tossing and turning. After turning onto your back you let out a sigh.
Quinn was great in bed, amazing even, however he was a little to vanilla... or so you thought.
After you let out another sigh, growing more frustrated as you maneuvered your body to lay onto your side. Quinn woke up, turning to lay against you back his arm wrapping around your waist.
"Baby, whats wrong?" He asked gently rubbing along your hip.
"Nothing." You said sounding a little annoyed unintentionally.
"Did I do something?" He asked now more alert at your change in attitude.
"No, thats the problem," You said rolling over to face him," Don't take this the wrong way, it's just that I need more."
"What do you mean?" He asked now worrying that he wasn't enough for you.
"I need you to be rough with me," You trailed off.
He smiled letting out a laugh," Baby, all you had to do was ask," He said smiling as his hand now gripped your waist harsher," Should we handle this now?" He asked leaning over to kiss your neck.
"Please," You begged out rolling your head to the side, You could feel Quinn smile against your neck before tugging your panties down, He pushed himself to sit onto his knees.
He slid his boxers off, releasing his hard cock from the harsh confines of his boxers.
"Open that pretty mouth," He said grabbing your chin, you complied, as he slowly pumped his cock in his hand, slapping his cock against you face, "Come on baby, go head."
You leaned forward taking the tip in your mouth sucking gently as your tongue ran along his slit before circling his tip.
"Good, fucking girl," He smirked down at you sliding the length of his cock into your mouth hitting the back of your throat.
He then reached down as his hips bucked against your face, his hand trailing through your folds rubbing at your clit, his other hand grabbing at your tits.
"Mhmm, so wet for me baby, want me to use you?" He asked as his fingers slipped inside your pussy hooking against your g-spot.
He slowly began pumping his arm fingering you at a steady rhythm. You could feel yours legs shaking as spit dripped out of the sides of your mouth.
You moaned against his cock as you began dripping around his fingers. Your legs shaking even harder. He pulled his hips backs, grabbing your face with one hand bringing his fingers up to your moth, "Come on baby, clean my fingers up." He smirked looking down at you as his fingers slipped into your mouth.
Your tongue circled his fingers as you sucked your cum off his fingers, "Such a good girl for me," He smirked looking at you sucking at his fingers.
He removed his hand from your mouth. "Get on your knees, ass up." He said harshly. You flipped over, pressing your ass to his groin.
His hands grabbed your hips, one smacking your ass as he let out a groan.
He took his cock slamming it into you with no warning, aas his hand snaked down grabbing your neck, "This what you wanted baby?" He asked.
When you didn't respond he smacked your ass,"Answer me," He spoke as he pulled his hips back plunging himself deeper inside you.
"Yes, god, Yes!" You moaned out at the feeling of him inside you, He pulled you back by your hair, you back arching against his chest.
"Safe Word."
"Hmm?" You asked.
"What's your safe word?" He asked again harsher.
"uhm pineapple?" You asked not able to think in the the moment.
"Good girl." He kissed your neck before pushing you back down, pushing your head into the bed.
He continued pumping himself inside you as your eyes began to shake, your legs dropping to the bed.
His hand reached under you rubbing your clit working through your orgasm, even after you had cum around his cock, clenching at his movements, he continued his rough pace.
You began to get overstimulated the line between pleasure and pain beginning to blur.
As you laid flat moans mixed with sobs, Quinn continued his relentless pounding.
"Quinn it's to much!," You moaned out, "Can't take anymore."
"That doesn't sound like a safe word baby," He cooed out, as he continued his movement inside you.
You continued you strings of moaning as Quinn slowed his movements, pulled his cock back so just the tip was left in your entrance. He swiftly pumped his cock, as his cum leaked inside you.
He fully pulled back now watching as his cum leaked from your pussy.
"Good, fucking, girl," He trailed out groping your ass with his harsh calloused hands.
He lair beside you pulling you into his chest, "That what you needed, baby?"
"Mhmm," You said as your brain was still melted from his relentless attack on your pussy.
"Thats my girl," He smirked as his hand rubbed your waist, "Get some sleep baby."
"mhmm," You said as your eyes slowly began fluttering shut.

If Quinn Hughes had to verbalize how he was feeling, the only word he could use was drained. Truthfully, the man was convinced the English language was incapable of coming up with a word that could summon how exhausted he was.
He had been away for a few days, and while the first few games had gone really well, the Canucks got themselves in a string of hard losses, with the media and the public watching and criticizing his every move.
The defenseman sighed in relief, unlocking the door and silently walking into the house. Surprisingly, he wasn’t the only one up at this ungodly hour of the morning. Quinn could hear your humming from the kitchen, soon following the sound. You were cleaning up the kitchen, finishing up with the dishes when he made himself known, hugging you from behind, head low, kissing your neck softly.
“Hi, baby,” You greet your husband, turning your head to kiss his cheek.
“Hello, my love” He answers, muffled by your skin. “Kinda late to be doing the dishes, though, honey.”
You sighed as she turned around to face Quinn, draping your arms over his shoulders.
“The kids were so excited to stay up and see you, so I let them wait up a bit,” You stated, voice full of affection, “but they ended up falling asleep.” Quinn smiled, his hands resting lightly on your hips.
“I'm sorry they missed out,” he replied, his voice gentle, “but I'm glad I get to have you all to myself.”
“Me too,” You agree, speaking softly, and smiling back at him.
He opens his mouth, but before he can say anything, he lets a yawn escape. You look at him, noticing his eyes droopy with sleep, and pull his hand into yours, taking him into your bedroom. Both of you do your nightly routine, and while you’re busy with your skincare, Quinn goes to see the kids. Oliver is holding onto his green octopus plushie, in a deep slumber, so he kisses the boy’s forehead and whispers good night, quickly leaving the room. Aurora has a lighter sleep than her older brother, so Quinn is extra careful in her bedroom. The two-year-old is sleeping peacefully in a little Canucks jersey, holding onto the purple dinosaur plushie, blond locks covering her face. After doing the same little ritual he’d done with Oliver, he walks out of the bedroom as silently as possible.
When Quinn is finally back in your bedroom, you’re already lying down, waiting for him. As soon as he steps into the room, you urge him to get into bed as soon as possible, which he does without a second thought. You both cuddle close, your head in his chest, listening to his heartbeat. Quinn finally felt happy and at peace. He felt at home. And there was nowhere else he’d rather be.
