“Okay, so this is how it works!” Jimmy suddenly spoke up as soon as the audience stopped clapping for you. After a few seconds of admiring the amount of people that came to see you tonight, you looked at jimmy standing right across your standing figure.
He went on explaining the game, “Each shot sits on a coaster, which has a personal question written on it, okay?” you nodded, raising your eyebrows while you tried to figure what´s in these little shots.
“You will read the question silently but you will give your answer out loud.” he said. “And then you have to choose whether to share what the question was or you can take the shot and keep it a secret.” he finished off, eyes now on you instead of the camera which is showing all of this on live television.
You nodded and smiled before jimmy spoke up again, “You must reveal at least one question during the course of the game.”
“Oh okay, got it.” you told him.
“So, tonight America is finally gonna get all the answers from me and y/n Butler, just not all the questions.” He laughed before the audience and you joined his tiny fit of laughter. “You ready Mrs. Butler?” he asked you with a grin as he turned his body towards his line of small shots.
“I am ready Mr. Fallon!” clapping your hands together as you took a good look at your line of shots, furrowing your brows at the colours of them.
“Alright y/n, you go first.” jimmy told you before you grabbed the round card made out of wood from beneath your shot, telling the audience and jimmy the name of the shot.
You silently read the question in your head, furrowing your brows as a smile crept up on your face, jimmy and the audience already chuckling at your reaction to the question.
“Alright, So I’ll just answer it.” You asked the host with a smile. Jimmy immediately nodded his head, “exactly.” You bit your lip before answering the question that everybody was desperate to know,
“Vanessa Hudgens.”
Some people in the audience gasped as you tried to make out what jimmy was thinking about right now.
“Like in THE Vanessa hudgens, your husband’s ex girlfriend?” He quietly asked you, probably not a hundred percent sure if you are comfortable talking about this on live television.
After putting the wooden card back down onto the small table, you nodded, “yep.”
He thought about it for a few more seconds before he spoke up, “Are you gonna take the shot?” Pointing his pointer finger at your small, red shot.
“I feel like I can actually reveal the question.” You said right before the audience started cheering, jimmy raised his brows.
“Really?”
“Yeah.” You told him as you picked the wooden card back up and told everybody your question.
“Which one of Austin’s exes do you like the most?”
The audience clapped while jimmy smiled and nodded along.
“Alright! My turn.” He claimed loudly as he picked his card up and answered,
“Michael Jordan.”
You furrowed your brows before you started to laugh, “what?” You asked him as the audience laughed along.
“Okay, look! I’m gonna do it just like you and reveal the question.” Jimmy loudly told everybody with a smile, picking his wooden card back up and reading the question, this time, out loud,
“Who was your worst kiss.” And you immediately started to laugh, just like the audience — clapping your hands together while jimmy desperately tried to explain everything.
“So! I met Michael Jordan on this charity event a few years ago and we greeted each other, like shaking our hands and then leaned in to kiss each other on the cheek.” Jimmy started to explain his answer while you tried to hide your laugh, covering your mouth with your hands.
“And I leaned in to kiss his left cheek but he leaned in to kiss my right cheek and then it… happened, yeah.” Jimmy finished with a chuckle, realising that this story is really weird.
After your small laughing fit, you picked your second card up, biting your lip as your eyes ran over the words writing on the small, hard wood.
“You have reveal at least one of these-, Oh wait, no! You’ve already revealed the first one so you don’t have to reveal that one anymore but… I would.” He said, shrugging his shoulders as the audience laughed along.
“I-, oh no, no, no, absolutely not! I cannot reveal this question.” You quickly told him, wiggling your pointer fingers from side to side as you did so.
“You cannot?” Jimmy gasped dramatically. You shook your head,
“No, definitely not but I can tell you the answer tho and the answer to this question is — yes, '68 comeback special suit.” You proudly teased the crowd and Jimmy.
“'68 Comeback special suit… like, the leather suit that Austin wore on the set of Elvis?” He asked you with a grin but you only shrugged with your shoulders before you drowned the blue shot.
“Alright!” Jimmy yelled through the big studio while the audience clapped, “I guess y/n really doesn’t wanna reveal the question.” He exclaimed before he picked his second card up and answered after everybody stopped clapping,
“Howard stern's house.” He muttered. With an open mouth, you tilted your head to the side but weren’t able to ask the host anything before he already picked his tiny shot up and also threw it down his throat.
“What?” You responded as the audience clapped once again. Jimmy sighed and put his shot glass down again before he looked up at you,
“You don’t wanna know, believe me.” Everybody laughed at Jimmy's statement before he spoke up again,
“Okay, last shot, it’s your turn y/n.” He stated before you picked your last wooden card up and read the question silently.
You smiled brightly, chuckling before you answered your question.
“Okay, well… I would say at least five times a week.” you gulped as jimmy smirked in your direction, probably already having a tiny clue about what your question could be.
He chuckled in a loud tone, “And what would Austin say?” The host teased you before the crown started to clap again.
You turned around and tried to hide your smile, biting your lip as you did so before you put the card down and quickly grabbed the last shot. Jimmy quickly reacted,
“Oh no, please tell us y/n!” He laughed but you only shook your head and put the shot glass back down onto the small table.
“Never.” You answered in a quiet tone, smirking as you did so.
You were pretty sure that most people already knew what question you got based on your answer but you still couldn’t say it.
Like Jimmy said, America’s gonna get all the answer's but not all the questions.

Watching You
Tumblr media
Hello everyone!! I heard this song the other day and this idea hasn't left me since. So I had to put it down and @klizzie93 helped. Thank you lovely! The thought of how great of a dad Austin will be makes my heart melt. I am always open for requests if anyone has any.
You and Austin had been together for eight years now. Four years ago, you had the wedding of your dreams, beautiful, quiet, intimate and on the beach. Only family and very close friends were in attendance to celebrate with you.
It was maybe a half year later that you had surprised him with a little Elvis onesie. He had been over the moon, tears of joy falling down his face as he spun you around and couldn’t stop holding you. The next week, whenever he was within arms reach, he was always touching you in some way shape or form. As your belly grew, he started to bring home little outfits and stuffed animals. When you were three months, the both of you had decided to start decorating the nursery so it wouldn’t need to be done near the end of your pregnancy. It had been hard, but you were able to keep it from the public until you announced it when you were five months along. It was partly thanks to it being winter when you first were starting to show. The announcement was of your belly with his hands over it, and your hands over his. When you had the gender reveal and found out you were having a little boy, you were over the moon, a little Austin running around. As the months rolled by, you were getting more antsy, sore and finding it hard to get comfortable. There were nights you had trouble sleeping as the little one would not settle down for very long. Or kept kicking your bladder making you jump up and race to the bathroom. As your due date rolled around, Austin had made sure to have the month leading up to your due date off as well as nothing set in stone for work. The few days before you went into labor, you were crabby and couldn’t control your emotions very well. Austin, god bless the man, was there the entire time, getting you whatever you needed, helping you stand up or sit down, rubbing your back gently to help with pain. And he never once let anything you said go to heart. When your water broke, you were laying in bed, trying to get some sleep but your lower back was sore and you could not get comfortable. It was in the middle of the night when you went to shift to your other side that you felt your water break. It took you a few moments to realize what had just happened. When you grabbed Austin’s arm, he cracked his eyes open and the look on your face had him shooting up in bed.
The moment you told him it was time, he jumped out of bed, threw on a pair of joggers, a t-shirt and sweatshirt before helping you up out of bed, getting you into something dry and comfortable before he grabbed the go bag you had gotten ready last week. He helped you down the stairs and to the kitchen, where he set the bag on the island while he proceeded to race around looking for his phone, keys and wallet. Had this been any other situation, you would find it adorable at how flustered he was. You shuffled to the counter near the doorway to the mudroom, grabbed his keys and wallet and shouted to Austin when you heard him bound back up the stairs, that his phone was on the dresser. It was six hours later that little Alexander James Butler came into the world. You didn’t know you could love him any more than you did when he was in your belly but you were wrong. Austin and you were in awe at how beautiful he was, how tiny his fingers were. A week after you had gotten home, you posted a photo of Alexx’s little hand wrapped around Austin’s little finger. The first month took a bit of figuring things out before you both had a system figured out.
As the weeks turned into months and firsts with Alexx passed by, you couldn’t help dressing him up like his daddy.
When Austin’s birthday rolled around, you pulled out a box you had been very sneaky in hiding, and it took a bit to actually make the gift happen. When he opened it, it was a new carhartt jacket and tucked underneath was a perfectly matching miniature one for Alexx. The amount of pure adorableness that filled the house when Austin put the jacket on and then slid Alexx into his for a few photos, made your heart melt. Alexx’s first word was ‘mama’ but it wasn’t long before he followed it with ‘dada’. When Alexx had started to hold onto furniture to take a few steps, Austin was always hovering, worried about him falling and hitting his head. Alexx was 11 months old, he took his first unassisted steps from the middle of the room, where he had been playing with a few toys, over to Austin. The video call Austin was on with his publicist and manager was quickly ended and he spent the rest of the afternoon encouraging Alexx to walk between you and him. It was around then that he moved from single words to short sentences. He really was a mini me to Austin, always wanting to do what he was doing, wear what he was wearing. You never got upset over this. It was something that you had always dreamed of. When Alexx turned one, you had a big party with both your family and Austin’s as well as a few select friends. When Austin went back to work, he did filming where he could be home each night. Once Alexx was old enough you started to travel with Austin so he wouldn’t be away from the two of you for long. Your job was one you could easily do remotely from anywhere as long as you had internet, and that wasn’t ever an issue. It was during filming of a movie in Canada, that the three of you decided to head to a local park. With it being a little chilly out, you had Alexx bundled up in his carhartt jacket that matched Austins, and a little knit hat. You had made sure to get a new matching jacket everytime Alexx grew out of the current one. The three of you were on a blanket on the grass, you and Austin were just relaxing as it was a full day off for him. Lunch had been eaten a while ago and now Alexx was playing with a few of his dinosaurs. You were starting to doze off in the warmth of the sun when you heard Alexx say ‘Shit’ causing you to shoot up and look at him with wide eyes. “What did you just say Alexx?” You could not believe it, looking over at Austin who’s eyes were also wide. “Shit” He said, not knowing why you were looking at him like that. “That’s a bad word. Where did you hear that word, Alexander!?” You lifted him up and stood him between your legs, looking into blue eyes that were a mirror image of your husband’s. “Daddy said it yesterday. I want to be like him! We match!” The innocence in his voice, had you not been so shocked, would have been adorable. But when the words registered, your head slowly turned to look at Austin. He was biting his lip to keep from laughing. When he saw the look on your face, he couldn’t hold it in anymore, the laughter bubbling out. “Austin Robert Butler! What… When… Why did he hear you say that?” “I was on the phone with Kate, talking about the publicity circuit that I’m going to have to start after this wraps up here. I smashed my toe on the corner of the dresser, honestly, I thought he was sleeping.”
You shook your head at him and rolled your eyes. Of course, you knew this was bound to happen some time, just not this soon. Alexx was always watching everything Austin did and was trying to copy him and do what he was doing. When Austin would play his guitar, Alexx had to pull his little one out and play with him. When Austin would cook, he had to be there helping. “I swear, one day, you will be sorry. He is going to be causing trouble like you. And breaking hearts before you know it.” The look on Austin’s face at those words had you laughing now. “It’s Kismet Aus.” You smiled, kissing him on the cheek before turning back to Alexx. “No more using that word okay baby? There are some words that are bad and that is one of them.” Gently pulling the knit cap off his little head that was crooked, you smoothed his hair down before placing it back on straight. You then pulled the zipper back up that had started to slide down. “Daddy! Lets slide!” Alexx shouted, holding his arms out to Austin, his fists clenching closed and back open over and over. You just rolled your eyes in loving exasperation. Austin stood up, leaning down to scoop Alexx up into his arms before giving you a kiss quickly. And true to form, Alexx leaned out of Austin’s arms to kiss you on the cheek. A smile broke on your face as he turned and carried Alexx towards the large playground set. You pulled your phone out and took a few photos of the two of them before just happily lounging back and watching them interact. The thought about having another little one had been playing around your mind for the last few months. You would have to bring it up to Austin soon. The thought of him having two little ones in his arms just melted your heart even more. About an hour later, Alexx was getting fussy and both you and Austin knew he would need to be put down for his nap very soon. So the decision to head home was made. You gathered the blanket and bag that you brought lunch in since Alexx was squirming in Austin’s arms. “Daddy… I don’t want to leave!” He whined, putting on the best puppy eyes he could. Your husband looked at you for a moment. Hell, was this what you felt every time he gave you that look? “Buddy, I’m getting tired. Don’t you want to go home, get into comfortable pjs and curl up with me and mom for a nap? I know that’s what I want to do.” Austin said, fingers of his free hand tickling your son’s sides gently. A squeal left little lips and eyes crinkled up with joy. “Stopp Daddy!!” He squirmed even more before grabbing Austin’s hood and turning into his shoulder more. With a smile, the three of you started back to the vehicle. “Movie also?” “Sure Bubbs. Whatever movie you want.” You said, knowing he would be out like a light within the first five minutes of the movie. When you got to the vehicle, Austin made quick work of buckling Alexx into his car seat while you put the blanket and bag in the back. It wasn’t a long drive back to the apartment you were renting, but by the time Austin parked and turned the car off, Alexx was asleep. While walking into the apartment, he woke up and was groggy. Small fists rubbing at his glazed blue eyes. “Daddy, mommy, snuggle and movie now?” He asked, and oh my word, your heart melted. “Yeah, lets get changed while Daddy gets everything set up okay?” You held your arms out to take your son. He slowly leaned over towards you and you plucked him from Austin’s arms. When you went and let him pick out what he wanted to wear, Austin moved into your room, pulled the covers of the bed back and grabbed the remote for the tv, and Alexx’s blanket, before changing into a set of sleepwear that you had all gotten together on a recent shopping trip. And of course when you walked in, Alexx had the same set on. “Mommy! You need to match!” Alexx pointed to Aus as you set him down on the big bed. “Okay, I’ll go get into mine Bubbs.”
Once you had changed also, brushed your hair out and walked back into the bedroom, a huge smile filled your face. Austin was laying on his side of the bed on his back. Alexx was lying curled against his side, little fist clenching his blanket that he had bundled up between him and Austin’s side. If only you didn’t leave your phone in the kitchen. Making your way over to the bed, you laid down on your side, arm draping over Alexx and Austin’s stomach. “We are watching Land Before Time Mommy!” Alexx said, smiling at you and snuggling down even more between the two of you. “Oooooh. That’s a good one!” You responded with a kiss to his cheek. You trailed your fingers over his fluffy golden hair while Austin started the movie. When Little Foot met Cera for the first time, you glanced down and saw Alexx sound asleep. That didn’t surprise you at all, but what did was seeing Austin sound asleep as well. Smiling, you reached up and gently brushed a strand of hair off his forehead. This was a moment you never wanted to leave. Warm, curled up with your two boys and no worries at all.

Imagine Aus doing school drop off and it being kind of a disaster of a morning and he's considering giving up and being like "okay fuck this let's go to the park" and there's tantrums like "I wanted MOMMY to take me to school!"
oh my lord this has been in my drafts for ages I apologize for this being sorta wonky i wrote it at 4am😭😭
“Clara you have to wear shoes, no do not throw them at me- that’s it!” Austin bent over and picked the little girl up. “There is no reason for you to be acting like this.”
Clara with a face full of determination thrashed her little body around in her father’s arms and wailed, “No no no!” She screamed out, “I want mommy!” Running a hand down his face Austin huffed, “Clara Butler! We do not hit or kick people, that hurts and it is not nice,” he pulled open the car door and attempted to settle her into her carseat. “Quit kicking me,” he grumbled as he buckled her in.
“Momma! Mommaa!” Clara wailed out and pounded her tiny hands against the plastic cup holders.
Austin sighed and took her hands in his, “Now you listen here young lady- I don’t know what the problem is but you need to quit your yelling, do you understand me?”
Clara stared back at her father for a moment, “I don’t want you- I want momma!” She spat out.
“Well momma isn’t here right now, I’m sorry,” he replied then shut the door. Clara began to kick the back of his seat and Austin leaned his head down on the steering wheel, “Clara, please- just stop?”
The five year old’s tantrum showed no signs of slowing down despite her father’s pleas. “MOMMA! I WANT MOMMA!!!” She screamed out at the top of lungs, her face now turning a shade of red.
“Alright! What if I take you to the park after school? We can get ice cream?” He asked as he turned around to face her.
“I want my momma-“
“Alright! You want momma so bad- Jesus, fine momma and I will take you to the park after school if you behave the rest of the day, that means no more hitting or kicking daddy- you understand?” He asked with a newfound tone of sternness.
“And we get ice cream,” Clara replied softly
“And we get ice cream,” Austin repeated as he slowly began to back out of the driveway.

"Don't Feel Good, daddy!"
Dad!austin
______________________________________________
Austin could tell your daughter felt a tiny bit warm as he sat on the side of her bed and rubbed her back to rouse her. "Hi sweet girl. Did you sleep good?" Usually, your and Austin's daughter would smile at him as soon as she woke up, he told you it was an every day thing for him and her. But for some reason she just frowned and whined at him.
That's weird he thought as he rubbed her arms. "Ready to go to school, bug? See all your friends?" Your daughter Ivy just whined and snuggled into Austin's shoulder. She felt horrible as soon as she woke up. Now that she was coming back to consciousness, her head hurt, she felt nauseous and she had a sore throat. "Nooo daddy! Stay home with yoooou." Your daughter knew Austin usually stayed home to do meetings over zoom and business calls from your home now that your daughter was in school. He definitely slowed down some but he needed to get things done today.
Austin just thought she wanted to spend the day at home watching cartoons and playing outside. "Oh baby, I'm sorry you want to be with daddy but daddy's gotta make money to be able to get you all of your nice toys and things. I'll be there to pick you up today though." Ivy whined, she just wanted someone to understand she felt yucky.
Maybe mama? "MAMA!" She yelled, ignoring the ache in her throat. "Mama's at work sweetie. I know, I'm sorry but we gotta get going bubs, here do you want the flamingo shirt or your koala shirt?" Ivy groaned and after a few minutes, picked the flamingo shirt. "okay, green or purple pants, bubba?" She picked her favorite ones.
At breakfast, little Ivy laid her head down on the kitchen table and whined at whatever Austin offered her for breakfast. "Here baby, if you eat breakfast, even just a little bit, I'll take you to get a cakepop on the way home from school?" He bribed.
Ivy didn't want the cakepop, her tummy felt all swirly. "No, daddy, no!" Austin sighed and packed an extra packet of muffins in her lunch box for later if she got hungry and planned to tell her teacher about them once he dropped her off.
"Alright bunny, let's go get your shoes. Go, go, go." Ivy just started silently crying when she was putting her shoes on.
"Baby, what's wrong?" Austin asked, picking up Ivy and fixing her velcro shoes. "Don't feel good daddy, please don't make me go." Austin sighed. "Ivy, can you just try for daddy please? If you still don't feel good by lunch time, go to the nurse and I'll come get you okay?" He figured it was just hunger pains and she would feel better once she got to school. Ivy just whined and shoved her face into Austin's shoulder.
Austin had just put Ivy in her car seat and started the car when Ivy knew what was about to happen. She was going to throw up. She tried to call out before she gagged, "DA-!" Austin turned around just in time to to fling his hand out under her chin and bring up what little vomit she could get up.
"Shit, it's okay baby, you're okay." Austin turned on the car phone and dialed your phone. "Hello?"
"Hey babe, we've had a rough morning. Ivy's not going to school today." Austin said as he waited with his hand cupped under Ivy's chin, waiting to see if she'll gag again.
"Why? Is she okay?" Austin groaned, "She just threw up. She was a little warm when she woke up. I'm just gonna take her inside and get her changed. Good job, baby you're okay."
You felt so bad for your baby girl. "Ivy, are you okay sweetie?" Ivy gasped when she recognized your voice coming out of the cars speakers. "Mommy?"
"Yeah baby, are you feeling icky?" Ivy nodded. "Yeah... frew up in daddy's hand... didn't mean to." She said, looking to Austin with a pout. Austin gave his daughter a small smile. "It's alright baby, daddy's gonna take you inside and get you back in your jammies. You two are gonna relax together for the day and then I'll see you later tonight okay?" Ivy nodded again. "Wuv 'oo mama." Austin smiled. "Love you too baby." you said before instructing Austin to text you updates and hanging up.
"C'mon, sickie, let's go back to bed okay? Daddy's sorry he almost made you go to school sick." Ivy snuggled up to her dad's shoulder. "It otay."
A few hours later after a big nap and crackers, while Ivy was watching a show, she remembered what her daddy promised her. "Daddy... cake pop?" Austin chuckled. "We'll see if mama can bring you home one when you're feeling better alright, princess?"

I would love a Christmas #1 with 1 and 6 again with Daisy Butler.
Scenario 1: Decorating the tree
Dialogues:
1.) "Stop trying to get me to walk under the mistletoe.”
6.) “Do you want to put the star on the top of the tree?”
Oof, sorry I’ve been away for so long y’all! I’m gonna try to get back to writing some more while I’m home for the holidays. Thank you so much for this request! Here’s some more Daisy 🥰 (and you can read my other drabbles featuring her here!)
Tumblr media
“Babe!” You heard Austin call from his place by the door of the storage closet, underneath a very conspicuous cluster of mistletoe, “I found the last box of decorations but I might need your help getting them down!”
“Aus!” You called back, knowing this trick that he’s already tried several times this weekend, “You’ve already gotten me like five times this morning, stop trying to get me to walk under the mistletoe!”
You hear Austin trudge back down the hall to the living room with a defeated sigh, and he enters with a playful roll of his eyes at the amused smile on your face, “Can’t a man just kiss his wife under the mistletoe once in a while?”
“Not while this wife is trying to decorate and keep an eye on our six year old,” comes your amused answer as you attempt to untangle the garland in your hands, your eyes flicking between Austin in front of you and Daisy coloring at the kitchen table nearby. Your voice lowers to a teasing whisper as you continue, “But I promise I’ll make it up to you later.”
He smiles and kneels down to give you a peck, gently extracting the green tangle from your hands, “I got this, you check on little miss artist over there.”
You smile gratefully at him as you stand, brushing stray plastic “needles” off your sweater as you make your way to your daughter’s place at the kitchen table. Her little tongue is poking out, her tiny brow furrowed in concentration on what’s clearly an important project.
“Whatcha working on, sweet girl?” You ask, sliding into the seat next to her.
She perks up at the sound of your voice, a smile spreading across her face.
“‘M drawing snowflakes to hang on the tree!” She exclaims, blue eyes shining with pride as she shows you the various blue scribbles on white paper. “We did some in school to decorate the class tree, it looks like ours—” she points at the tree standing in your living room “— but smaller, ‘n’ it looked pretty, ‘n’ I wanted to help make our tree pretty too!”
Daisy ends her excited ramble with a proud smile, and you can’t help but return her grin. “These look great, sweetheart! Do you want me to help you find a way to hang these up?”
She nods, “At school Ms. M used string, but I dunno where to get it.” A frown threatens to overtake her smile at the prospect of not being able to hang up her project, but you’re quick to assure her.
“Don’t worry, we actually have something better than string.”
Several minutes later, your daughter is watching, entranced, as you carefully punch a hole in each of her drawings and twist a paper clip to act as a makeshift hook for the tree. She even helps hang some up herself, and you honestly think you might burst from happiness at the joy on her face when she sees her drawings next to the other ornaments.
“Those snowflakes look great, Daisy girl,” Austin praises with a hug. “There’s just one thing missing…”
He starts to open up a very familiar box, meeting your eyes with a grin as Daisy furrows her brow in confusion.
She lights up a second later, though, clapping her hands excitedly as Austin reveals the star tree topper.
“What do you think, Daisy? Do you wanna help put the star on top of the tree?”
Your daughter lets out a soft gasp. “I get to help?”
You nod, humming an affirmative. “Daddy’s gonna lift you to the top of the tree, and we’ll put it on together.”
The joy on her face and the excited giggles that escape her are more than enough reward for the complications that come with trying to get a six year old to carefully put something on top of a tree. The star might be a little crooked, but the pride on Daisy’s face whenever she sees it keeps you from fixing it, and you know that that’s a tradition that you and Austin are going to keep up for as long as you can.

MASTERLIST — SERIES
Tumblr media
Austin had been there throughout the whole birth of his little girl, Leia. He was beside his wife, holding her hand and encouraging her to push. His wife, Rose, didn’t make much noises, she would just grunt from frustration now and then.
But her grip around her beloved husband’s hand would tighten every time she tried to push. He would watch, consoling his wife, cheering her on, telling her she was doing a splendid job, he was always there for her. He was there. And that was all that mattered to her.
Finally the sound of frustrated groans and grunts, was joined with cries and wails. Their daughter had been revealed to them. They both watched as their new born daughter was placed onto Rose’s stomach with a towel wrapped around her, and Rose brought their baby close to her. The first thing she did was tell their daughter how much she loved them. ‘Leia… Leia my sweet girl. Don’t cry, your momma and papa love you very much.’ She had cooed to Leia. ‘Hello honey, hello my love, hi.’
Austin by now, had fallen completely silent. He was staring at his daughter, trying to process that he was a father, and that his beautiful wife was now a mother. He kept staring at Leia, listening to Rose trying to calm her down. Deep inside, he felt happy, incredibly happy.
The moment he had gotten the news that Rose was pregnant he was ecstatic. Thinking of names for their cute girl, smiling so bright. He’d come home from work, give her a kiss, and her stomach as well. At times he’d simply kneel down to hug her stomach, wanting to show their baby love. Or he’d lay with Rose, his head on her stomach, talking to not just her, but their baby as well.
Now that their baby, their daughter was here. The same ecstatic feeling he felt when Rose told him was still there, greater than before. ‘Isn’t she beautiful, Austin?’ Rose’s sweet voice snapped him back to reality.
‘Yes,’ he agreed without thinking, ‘the most beautiful thing in the world.’ He had an innocent childlike tone. Rose smiled sweetly up at him, knowing that he didn’t know how to process what had just happened. She looked back at their baby, cupping Leia’s face to gently kiss her head.
Finally, once their baby was clean and taken care of. She was wrapped like a banana, and Rose had been embracing her the whole time. Leia was sleeping soundly, her father hadn’t yet held her. Austin was sitting by his wife’s side, too afraid to hold their daughter. Worried he was going to hurt her. Worried he was gonna hold her improperly.
He had his head against the rail, staring at them both in silence. ‘Baby,’ she looked at him.
‘Yes love?’ He responded, looking back at her brown eyes.
‘You should hold her, y’know.’
He was quiet for a bit before looking at their daughter then at her. ‘I’m… what if…’
‘You won’t hurt her.’ Rose soothed him. ‘You’re too kind for that.’ She promised as she leaned towards him. He had always listened to her, no matter what. So he did. ‘Hold her head, my love,’ she watched him hold his hands out. Gently taking their daughter into his arms, he held her head in his hand, his forearm underneath her. Cradling her in his arms.
He sat in the chair beside the hospital bed, his gray eyes stared deeply at his sleeping daughter. She had a small face, blonde hair, a button nose. She was snugged into the blanket, she looked peaceful, happy. Rose watched her husband with fond eyes, seeing how he was trying his best to be gentle. His thumb touched Leia’s cheek. ‘Hello.’ His voice was barely a whisper, trying his best to not disturb his precious girl. ‘Hi princess.’ He managed to smile.
Rose leaned back in the hospital bed, knowing that her baby was safe. Her eyes fluttered, trying to stay awake so she could watch how he’d treat Leia. He craned his head down, forward, planting a gentle kiss on Leia’s forehead. Watching her again as his thumb grazed her cheek. ‘I love you.’ Even though his girl didn’t know what that meant. He wanted to tell her either way. ‘Momma and papa love you so so much, princess.’ He croaked.
His head turned towards Rose, seeing her sleeping soundly. He looked back at his little girl. ‘Y’know, you’re named after Princess Leia. Your momma said you were feisty, and you’re a princess, so it only suited that you’d be named after her.’ He rasped out, still trying his best not to wake her. Leia wiggled a bit but, fell still once more. ‘Leia,’ he breathed out, feeling his eyes well up with emotions. He knew he was about to cry, which was odd. It had been a long time since he cried. ‘Oh, you beautiful girl.’ He squeaked, biting his lower lip to stop himself from crying.
He was happy. Euphoric. He had a little family with the woman he’d spend the rest of his life with. He had a family, a little family with his forever. A girl so sweet, so gentle and pure, something so innocent and cute. Something that he and his wife had made. He didn’t know why but he felt a sudden protectiveness over their new born. He vowed to protect his wife, and now that their baby was here, he’d vow to protect her too.
‘Momma and papa love you, we love you.’ He assured Leia, leaning down to kiss her forehead once again. ‘We’ll protect you, till the end of time.’
At times Austin would stand over the crib of their daughter, holding his hand to her. Her small delicate fragile hand would hold onto his thumb. He’d say sweet things under his breath while Rose would watch. Once Leia would fall asleep, he’d kneel down beside the crib to watch her.
After a few minutes, he’d walk back to Rose. Kiss her cheek and Rose would ask him to sit on the bed with her, to which he would. With his arm over her waist, her head against his shoulder. Their hands had intertwined. ‘You’ll be a fantastic father Austin.’ She looked up at him sweetly. Brought her hand up to his face to make her look at her. His gray eyes deeply looked into hers longingly, and she returned the gaze. ‘So don’t worry okay? We’ll be happy. We’ll be a happy family.’ Then, she brought her lips to his. Kissing him.
When they both pulled away from each other, Austin spoke to her softly. ‘I’ll protect you Rose, I promise. You and Leia. I’ll protect our family. I swear.’
‘I know.’ Rose didn’t doubt her husband for one moment. ‘I know my love. I know.’
Austin stared at his necklace, nibbling his lower lip. He inhaled sharply, clearing his throat. Turning his head towards the living room, he heard squealing in the background. Leia had been playing with Fredrick and Serpent. The trio were playing tag, with Serpent barking whenever he got tagged, slipping on the wooden floor.
Leia running around trying to chase Fredrick. Only to jump into his arms and exclaim, “I caught you Freddie!” With a bright grin on her face.
“Aw! Looks like ya got me, ma’am!” He complained.
Austin smirked, shaking his head. He looked back at his necklace, clipping it back around his neck. “Yeah, she is beautiful, Rose… she’s the most beautiful thing in this universe.” He kissed his wedding ring, getting off the chair to walk over to the trio, joining in on the fun.
Those were all memories now. Memories that Austin clung onto.

he did. my husband tried. he tried to warn them. he did. he said to them, “i’m not as into this as my wife is. i just like looking at cars, but she’s got all the facts and specs and everything. she’s practically a walking encyclopedia.”
and they didn’t believe him. they laughed. they shrugged it off. they shrugged me off. they were warned. and yet they still decided to try and put me to the test. they were warned. they were warned of what would happen to them. and yet they didn’t listen.
their ambition made them icarian. their folly turned my warmth from brilliant to sweltering.
their hubris led to their humiliation.
they were warned. but ambition makes men bold.
this is all just a very dramatic way of saying that grown men decided to play a game of, “oh you’re a fan? prove it” only to have their asses handed to them by their opponent.
this was the opponent btw:

Baby Fever (Benny Cross x Shy!Reader)
Ohhh just imagine the possibilities! 🥰😍 Based on this pic! (I might have to make a Benny x Bunny x Baby series now)
Benny x Bunny Masterlist
Word Count- 1k+ (lil fella)
******
Deep in a conversation with Gail and Betty standing by the food table, you perked up at the sound of tiny giggling baby coos. You looked over your shoulder, trying to locate that adorable baby that one of the wives brought along to the picnic today. You'd already held the sweet little baby, being one of the first people to approach the family when they arrived.
But what you saw now, you had to blink a few times to make sure it wasn't a dream. That tiny baby girl was in the strong, tanned arms of none other than Benny Cross. You weren't sure you'd ever seen Benny hold a baby before, and the sight alone filled your belly with fluttering butterflies. You lowered your plate, having discovered a new appetite, and your eyes were positively drinking in the view before you. You were vaguely aware of the giggling from Gail and Betty behind you, but that didn't seem to bother you much. Your mind was too preoccupied in visions of Benny holding your own children like that someday. And you tried to not let your imagination run wild because you and Benny had already discussed the possibility of children someday -- a topic that left you covering your disappointment.
"You're not him. You're not your father, Benny," you had told him as you laid in bed next to him, hand running through his hair soothingly. You had woken to his arm tightening around your waist and the sound of his nightmare manifesting through his soft whimpers. It was another nightmare of his father. "You are never going to be him."
"You don't know that," he had replied, voice uncharacteristically weak, and though neither of you had turned on a light, you knew he was staring at that crack in the ceiling above you, something he did when he was deep in his thoughts.
"Yes, I do," you whispered as you planted a kiss to his temple. "Because I won't let you become him."
Because of Benny's childhood and the rough household he grew up in, he didn't think he'd be a good father. How could he, since all he knew was how horrible of a father he had? It didn't matter that you told him he was wrong, that you could see the goodness in him. He never seemed to believe you, and he certainly never saw it in himself. So the conversation ended in an uncomfortable draw after you both realized that the other had different plans for that aspect of your lives.
Watching Benny, with his calloused hands that you'd seen inflict so much damage, hold this baby so gently, so carefully . . . it clenched at your heart almost painfully, and you wondered how he could possibly see so little of his true character. A bitterness overtook you at the thought of his selfish parents ruining not only his childhood, but the future potential of becoming a father himself some day.
But maybe there was still a chance, you thought as you watched Benny lift the baby girl above his head, her tiny giggles growing increasingly louder at the excitement. Maybe, if you held his hand through the challenges, encouraging him when he had his doubts, maybe if you could be patient enough that could be your baby Benny would hold in his arms one day.
******
Benny had known the second his eyes found that baby sitting across the yard, that it would cause him trouble today. He knew that this would open a can of worms he had so carefully sealed back up. Because of course it was you who raced over to poke those chubby cheeks and rub its little socked feet. He had tried not to notice the way you seemed to beam at the baby, tried to look away when he saw you immediately reaching to hold the infant. He kissed the top of your head before he grabbed a beer from Johnny and purposely turned his back to the sight of you because everything in him wanted to see it, but he couldn't. He followed the guys as they made their way across the field to where the race would be held, knowing that if he put physical distance between you, it always seemed to help him think more rationally. That way he didn't have to look into your silent but expressive eyes, and he didn't have to hear the bittersweet longing in your voice as you played with the baby. No, that required a considerably strong will, and Benny often lost all sense of his when you wanted something.
Benny didn't want to be a father, he could never do that to a child, could never take the chance of letting a child be broken by their own father. He needed to break the cycle of abuse he'd inherited from generations of men in his family, and the only way he knew how would be to never become a father. It was as simple and as difficult as that. Simple because anytime he thought about becoming a father, he'd just have to remember what his own childhood was like. Difficult because he knew you wanted to be a mother some day. Simple because he knew he shouldn't be a father. Difficult because he knew that you would be a good mother. Difficult because he was selfish, he knew that. You deserved to be with a man who was better than him, who would want to have children. Simple because you were the one good thing Benny had in his life, and he couldn't let you go.
And as the men began to set up a race on the bikes, Benny couldn't help but let his gaze wander back to where you sat across the field, baby bouncing gently on your lap. He zoned out, not really bringing himself to care about the race anymore. How could he when you looked so beautiful as you smiled brightly at that baby, the afternoon sun basking you both in a warm glow. You only laughed as those pudgy fingers tugged at your pin-curled hair, and Benny's brows pinched together because you were just so sweet, so patient. You were perfect, so perfect. You were everything Benny wasn't, in fact, he was far from even being considered a good man. But watching you with that damned baby? It stirred something conflicting in him, something he thought he had closed off a long time ago, and he wondered if maybe he could make you a mother some day.

Double Trouble

Hope everyone loves this as much as I do. <3
You and Austin have been married for two years now. When the both of you had decided that it was a good time to have a baby, it wasn’t long before you were making an appointment with your doctor. Your appointment was scheduled for the following week. As the days passed, you got more and more nervous. Austin did his best to keep your mind occupied with different things. A few times, he pulled a song up on the audio system and pulled you into dancing with him. On the morning of the appointment, Austin was the nervous one. You felt calm and just knew that you would be welcoming a tiny Butler to the family roughly nine months from now. In the waiting room, you were looking through a magazine while Austin was fidgeting with his rings. It wasn’t until you noticed a few people looking over, out of the corner of their eye, that you glanced at your husband and saw his knee bouncing like there was no tomorrow.
You silently reached your hand over and rested it on his thigh right above his knee. The bouncing stopped instantly. His hand slid down and curled over yours. And when you turned your hand over, he laced his fingers with yours. Austin took a deep breath, trying to relax his muscles and sit back into the chair. It was only a few minutes after that, your name was called. Standing up, you set the magazine down and followed behind the nurse. Austin stayed right at your side even when you were led into a small examination room. The nurse took down your stats before asking you to change into the gown and left the room, saying the doctor would be in shortly. As you were changing, you felt Austin’s eyes slide over your form. “Eyes up here babe, that is part of why we are here today.” You grinned and pointed to your face. He gave you a cheeky smirk as you sat down on the exam table, the paper crinkling underneath you. There was a soft knock on the door and your doctor stepped in. She greeted you with a smile and when you introduced Austin, she shook his hand before sitting down. After explaining that you had been trying to get pregnant and how you had been feeling plus the positive tests, your doctor said that she would do a blood test and give you a basic overall check.
By the end of that day, it had been confirmed that you were going to be parents. Appointments were set up for ultrasounds and prenatal vitamins were prescribed, as well as other information you would need. Over the next few weeks, you got well acquainted with morning sickness, though for you it was evening sickness. Austin was a blessing to you, always there holding your hair back, getting you some water to sip on, always at your side. The first ultrasound had both of you crying tears of happiness. With each ultrasound, you got photos and fell more in love. Both of you loved reading how big the baby was compared to fruit and other items. When you heard the heartbeat for the first time, it was a completely different feeling. A recording of the heartbeat was taken home and listened to more times then you could count.
When you were able to find out the sex, you both decided to learn with a gender reveal party with your family and close friends. The moment the two of you opened the large box and blue and white balloons floated off, an image of a little Austin running around the house filled your head. As you went through your first and second trimester, you and Austin had been working on the nursery. It was a perfect combination of the two of you. Of course Elvis was a good part of it. And you found quite a few unique finds on Etsy that would never be found in normal stores. As your belly grew, you noticed that you felt like you were a bit bigger than a normal pregnancy. Though you just attributed it to all the craving eating you were doing. Austin was doing midnight runs, even early morning runs for the things you were wanting. He was really being the best support you could have ever asked for. One thing that you craved the entire time, couldn’t get enough of, was dark chocolate covered pretzels. As you got within a week of your due date, Austin had gotten the couch all decked out in pillows and blankets so you could have a relaxing movie night. You were halfway through the first movie when you felt soreness in your lower back. Thinking it was how you were laying, you shifted and about a half hour later, a sharp pain shot through your lower back. Within moments you felt wetness along your legs and realized your water had broken. “Aus… Um.. We need to head to the hospital.” You said, shifting and pulling the blankets off you. Within moment’s, he was up and had the hospital go bag, and everything else that was needed. Once he helped you up off the couch, he looped his arm around your waist and helped you to the vehicle. In the passenger seat, you rested your hands on your belly and focused on your breathing. “Can’t wait to see your face, little one.” You murmured with a small smile. Austin reached his hand over, resting it next to yours whenever stopped at red lights. Within a half hour, you were up in a room, getting settled in, having ekg monitors hooked up for you and the baby. When your doctor walked in, she took a few moments to read your stats. “Okay, well I have some good news for you.” She said with a soft smile. “It looks like you are having twins.” “What?!” Both you and Austin spoke up at the same time. “Why didn’t we know this sooner?” You asked, completely shocked. “Well sometimes this happens, one of the two tends to be hidden behind the other. And each time we checked in on you, they happened to be doing just that.” “Oh god, you did this to me!” You point to Austin, whose face goes from awe to complete shock, confusion and dismay. “Two! I can’t do two!” The shock and hormones racing through your body right now were wreaking havoc on you. Just the thought of having to push two babies out was overwhelming. You yelped out when a contraction hit you, almost hissing at Austin when he reached out to hold your hand. Out of your view, one of the nurses bit her lip to keep from laughing. She had seen many different reactions between partners. Once the baby was born, those thoughts and feelings were long gone. Once the pain passed, you opted for an epidural. Over the next hour, you had dilated quickly, and the nurse had said you were lucky to get the epidural as soon as you did. Had you waited any longer, you wouldn’t have been able to get it. Your doctor came back in when it was time to start pushing and guided you through it all. At this point, you had snatched Austin’s hand into yours, gripping as tight as you could. He was soon curled around you as you leaned against him to push when told. When your son was born, he let out a wail that had you giving a tearful laugh of joy. The doctor placed him on your belly once the cord was snipped and he was wiped off. Before you could get lost in his beauty, another contraction hit. One of the nurses scooped him off your belly so you could push. Only a few minutes later your second son was born. Once you had pushed out the afterbirth, both boys, wrapped up in blankets with little hats on were placed in your arms. Austin was still behind you in the bed, looking over your shoulder at the babies, his hand gently trailing over one’s forehead below the hat. “You did this. You carried these boys and brought them into this world.” He murmured, completely lost in the little family of his in his arms. “Our boys… They look just like you Aus.” You whispered, so in love with them already it hurt. “What are we going to name them?” Austin asked, kissing your cheek softly and running his hand over your hair.
“Maxwell Aaron Butler and Alexander Lukas Butler?” The moment those names fell from your lips, Austin knew they were perfect. “Alexx and Max. You are going to be loved so much.” He whispered as you smiled and turned your head towards him. Austin looked at you, smiled and then gave you a loving kiss. “My love, you have made me the happiest man on this planet. I love you so much.” “You are my other half Austin. And now, we have the most beautiful perfect twins. They are going to be just like you.” With a loving smile, Austin kissed you softly once more before looking back to the twins in your arms. This was the beginning of the rest of his perfect life.

Stay Awake for Me
summary: Clara get's injured while playing volleyball and Austin goes full on papa bear mode.
word count: 1,002
“Let’s go, Clara!” Austin cheered from the stands as he watched his daughter down on the court. Jumping up into the air she smacked the ball with her hand sending it over the net. “Atta girl!” He watched as his daughter celebrated with her teammates. “She’s something else, ain’t she honey?”
You nodded your head smiling right along with him- that was until you watched your twelve-year-old daughter run across the court and run head-on into her teammate. “Oh shit.”
Austin was already pushing through the crowd and jumping over the barrier onto the court, “Clara? Clara, come on you gotta talk to me.” He knelt down next to his daughter as she lay unconscious on the floor.
You rushed in behind him, “Oh my God, my baby!” Reaching down to hold her hand you leaned your head on Austin’s shoulder.
“Alright, are you two mom and dad? Gonna need you both to give her a bit of space, I promise she is alright. Everyone just needs to give her some room, please.” The athletic trainer shifted Clara out of Austin’s arms and onto the floor.
After a few moments, Clara began to slowly wake up, she squinted her eyes and brought her arm up to cover her eyes. “Ugh, my head.”She started to try and sit up but was promptly pushed slowly back down.
“Trust me, kiddo you are not going to want to do that.” The athletic trainer slowly ran a few routine concussion tests.”Yep, she’s gotta concussion, clear as day.”
“How bad is it?” Austin knelt back over by his daughter, “Scale of one to ten how bad does it hurt, sweet pea?” His eyes were filled with worry, his face tense as he scanned her face.
“Like an eight?” She groaned out, “Momma, I want to go home.” She reached her hand out to you and you took hold of it. “Please?”
“We’ll go home here in just a second, we need the trainer to clear you, and then we’ll go home, I promise.” You reassured her over and over even though you had no idea what was going on.
After being cleared by the trainer Austin bent down to pick her up in his arms, “I know it hurts, baby. Just keep your open for me, can’t go to sleep just yet.” He pressed a kiss to her hair, “Daddy’s got you, we’re going to the car.”
You followed Austin out of the gym and out towards the parking lot, “Hold on Aus, let me open the door.” You pulled open the door and he placed her into the seat. “Austin what are you doing?” You asked your husband as he scooched over to the other seat.
“I just want to make sure she is alright, I am nervous.” He buckled her seat belt and allowed her to rest her head on his shoulder. “You don’t mind driving do you, sweetie?”
“No, I don’t mind it all. Clara baby, can you talk to me for a second?” You turned back to look at her.
“Mmm.” She mumbled, her eyes half-lidded as she stared back at you.
“Do you know your name?”
“Clara Butler.”
“That’s right sweetie, do you know what happened?” You asked, your heart hurt seeing her in this state.
“Volleyball?” She mumbled once more her eyes starting to droop.
“Uh-uh, you need to stay awake, sweetheart.” Austin nudged her chin up and she groaned.
“Dad stop.” She groaned out as she shifted to the other side of the car.
There was a knock on the window after a quick glance you noticed it was the athletic trainer, he was holding her gym bag in one hand knocking on the window with the other.
“Sorry, we just realized she left her bag um how are you doing, champ?” He asked Clara who was all but half asleep leaning on her father’s shoulder.
“She’s mainly tired we have been trying to keep her up but she really wants to sleep,” Austin replied whilst brushing her hair out of her face.
“Let her sleep, just make sure to wake her up every couple of hours, if she starts to get a prolonged headache,  pupils are a different size, or nausea then you need to take her to the doctor. Keep all the lights off for at least forty-eight hours and call me if you need anything. You did good, kid.”
“I’ll pop the trunk if you don’t mind just putting her bag back there.” You said quickly popping the trunk as he placed the bag in the back. “Alright, lovebug we’re heading home.”
The drive was silent until you pulled into the driveway and Austin softly spoke to Clara, “Hey Clara bear, we are home.” He scooped her into his arms and you locked the car, you opened the door for him and shut it behind him.
“Lights, honey.” You said as you gestured to the switch panel next to him, he handed Clara over to you and switched out the lights. “Thank you, baby.” You made your way down the hallway and walked into her room, “Alright bug, we need to get you in your pajamas.” Slowly but surely you helped her out of her uniform and into her pajamas.
“I brought some water,” Austin whispered softly as he entered the room, he placed the glass on the nightstand and walked out, and came back in with a pillow and blanket.
“Austin what are you doing?” You draped your arms around his neck and looked up at him.
“Just wanted to make sure she is going to be okay throughout the night.” He tossed the pillow and blanket on the floor. Clara’s soft snores filled the air, “You are glad to stay with me.” He smiled and you nodded your head and that is how the two of you ended up sleeping on the floor, Austin constantly getting up and down to check on Clara. He also ended up complaining of back problems for weeks.

Drabble request from @kiddosdreamsposts!
#6 and #27 featuring Daisy Butler
6.) Making a gingerbread house
27.) “Did you get us matching pyjamas?”
If you’re curious as to who Daisy is, you can read my other drabbles featuring her here!
Tumblr media
“You’re absolutely right, Daisy girl, it does need more M&M’s!”
You follow your husband’s voice to the kitchen, still rubbing sleep from your eyes.
“Aus, please tell me you’re not giving her candy for breakfast…” You trail off as you take in the scene in front of you: Austin carefully placing M&Ms on the roof of a fully constructed, albeit messy, gingerbread house, nodding along seriously as Daisy babbles next to him in her high hair.
Austin perks up as you enter, leaning over as you rounded the counter to greet him and your daughter with a good morning kiss. “Morning, sweetheart, “ he drawls, “Nope, Daisy and I are just working on a very serious construction project, right Daisy?”
Daisy nods seriously from her chair, still babbling about “More enimems!” as Austin continues. “Don’t worry, I already got her breakfast, and I’ve only let her have one M&M.” At your raised eyebrow, he amends, “Okay, two, but she gave me the eyes! You know I can’t resist the eyes!”
“Now you know how I feel, sweetheart,” you laugh, because of the many things Daisy inherited from her father, one of them just had to be his uncanny ability to pull off the perfect puppy eyes.
“Oh, and I made you breakfast.” He laughs, nodding over to a foil-covered plate on the counter.
You let out an awww in thanks, moving to unwrap the still-warm plate to see all your favorites waiting for you. “Aus, you didn’t have to do this!”
“I knew you were up all last night with Daisy, you deserved to sleep in and have a bit of a lazy day for yourself,” Austin shrugged, “Oh, and a package came for you, I left it on the table.”
You squeal in excitement, breakfast abandoned in favor of racing over to grab the box.
“What, did you get us matching pajamas again?” Austin jokes, recalling how excited you were when you got them the previous year.
You meet his eyes with a grin as you pull out the three plastic-wrapped sets of clothes, and he blinks. “Wait, you actually did?”
You hum a cheerful affirmative as you pass one of the packages to him. “I saw them the other night online and I couldn’t resist.” You say as you begin unwrapping the smallest one, revealing a toddler pajama set designed to look like one of Elvis’s jumpsuits— specifically, the ‘68 special suit.
Austin let’s put a laugh as he sees what you’re holding, and the two of you open the remaining packages to reveal two more pajama sets, each printed to look like one of Elvis’s jumpsuits.
“This is fantastic, Y/N, oh my gosh,” Austin laughs. “So is this one of our Christmas traditions now? Matching pajamas for all of us?”
“I don’t see why not.” You smile as you fold up the clothes and discard the cardboard and plastic, finally turning your attention back to your breakfast and the half-finished gingerbread house. “You two need another helper with that?”
Austin defers to your toddler. “What do you think, Daisy, should we have Mommy help with the gingerbread house?”
Daisy nods excitedly, leaning over to push a few M&Ms towards you. “Ye! Help!”
Your heart lifts as it does every time you hear your daughter say a full word, and you praise her with a laugh as you scoop up the colorful candies.
The rest of that bright winter morning is spent in the kitchen, the three of you carefully constructing a messy gingerbread house together.
