Dabi And Stain’s Body Count

Okay so I’ve talked about this before with Dabi, but let’s also talk about Stain and this connection

With Dabi, I theorized that he’d planned those 30 murders for the sake of ruining Endeavor, not because he wanted to. That he did this only to be established as a Villain and then leave it at 30

Which was only a simple theory until Stain said this in the recent chapter

40 murders. That’s quite a lot, and yet not as many as you would think someone called The Hero Killer would have

Stain’s goal, his will, is to do away with the fakes of society. Any Hero looking for only fame or money, he targets and kills them. Except, let’s not forget where Stain started

Before he became a killer, he entered into a private high school. Private. Which means his family must have had a lot of money, or at least enough to get him into the school. He then despaired over the corrupt view of Heroes in the system and dropped out

He started making speeches, pressing for True Hero revival, but this ended when he said that words are lacking power. In the 10 years that followed, he trained himself to kill which is where he got his skillful blade wielding from

He says Hero isn’t a title to be given out to those seeking rewards and fame, and the narrator described Stain’s influence as a purge

And, personally, I always found it hard to see where Dabi was taking inspiration from Stain. He said he’s following “Stain’s will”, but nothing so far had shown why and what parts he was following exactly

But now I get it

40 is enough to get you seen. It’s enough to make you acknowledge the killer

10? No. 20, a glance maybe. 30 causes the world to look your way. 40 makes you feared

Hopefully you’ve had a look at the link and skimmed the post to know my thoughts with Dabi on this

Dabi, too, has controlled his kill count. For Dabi to be a Villain, for Dabi to be seen as a killer, you would expect the count to be higher. But it isn’t. It’s always that specific number that gets repeated; 30

Dabi is Touya. He’s a Villain, but he’s still that little boy trying to get attention, trying to be acknowledged by the world and his father

Just as Stain is Chizome, the boy who wants a just society, Dabi is Touya, the boy who wants to be acknowledged

The similarities don’t end at the body count. The commentary for Stain’s internet video strikes me with very similar narratives too

“Deeply impressed by All Might’s debut, he sought to become a Hero.”

Private school = a lot of money, and as we know, the Todoroki’s are very wealthy

“He despaired over the fundamentally corrupt view of the Heroes within the educational system.”

“He dropped out the summer after his freshman year.”

“He concluded that words alone are lacking in power.”

“Only through a relentless purge can society be made aware.”

“This guy’s whole style is gonna spread like the plague.”

A plague... almost like an apocalypse... a catastrophe of some kind

The only bit of that video that differs is the part where Stain had said “Hero should be a title earned through tireless self-sacrifice.”

Whereas Dabi’s hot take is

I believe that Dabi took inspiration from Stain almost word for word

The body count is similar in how small it is, they both have a fall and rise story, and they have a singular moment which defines them, something that makes them famous, something that had an incredible impact on the country

One more thing I want to add is this quote said by the news presenter after Stain’s capture

Stain’s body count of 40 is, apparently, a large number for an independent Villain. It’s, apparently, a mark on the history books

Dabi killed 10 below that number

Remember what I said before?

10 victims? No. 20, a glance maybe. 30 causes the world to look your way. 40 makes you feared

It’s quite interesting that Dabi didn’t want to aim higher, or even surpass Stain. He kept it at 30, which tells me that maybe there’s a sense of humanity in him. Or maybe that he didn’t want to turn full Villain. Again, I’ve talked about this in the linked post

I think it’s also interesting that we’ve never actually been told Stain’s exact body count until now (from memory anyway). They only said “With the largest number of murders (...)” which, upon hearing, you would think would be higher for such a famed murderer

Which means that Dabi must have researched this. If they hadn’t said it in the news, if they didn’t even seem to say it in the internet video, then Dabi had to have researched his body count

I keep seeing a humanity in Dabi, a self-awareness, where if he had taken inspiration from Stain and researched the body count which was 40 - if he wanted revenge and wanted to make the world see but didn’t know where to even start, and then came across Stain’s video - then he’d use his will but make it uniquely Touya

I wonder if a part of Dabi/Touya didn’t want to kill, not as much as Stain anyway, so he killed as much as was possible to make him seen. He’d use Stain’s will but still be himself

Of course, the “no true heroes” differs, but the action of it all? Minimal kill count, famous videos, rise and fall with admiring Heroes? It’s so similar that I just can’t see it being any other way

@lastsunlight​ brought to my attention that Stain’s kill count BEFORE prison was 17, and after prison, where he likely killed some if not most of the retired fake Heroes when he got out, it was 40. I was under the impression that Stain’s body count was 40 even before prison, but this is actually super interesting!

(I’ve discussed with lastsunlight’s ask about Stain’s 17-40 kill count here, but I want to talk about his connection with Dabi regarding this)

Dabi killed 30 people, whereas Stain before prison killed 17 people.

This actually makes Dabi more famous than Stain

Stain’s independent kill count was 17

Dabi’s independent kill count is 30

The news presenter said himself that

Stain’s was the largest number of murders of any independent Villain. He made history

And, as we know, Dabi worked alone to kill those 30 people. He was a part time independent Villain in a way

So what this means is Dabi surpassed Stain

Dabi has made history, not just by revealing that he’s the son of the Number One Hero, but by being the youngest and only independent Villain to kill 30 people since the advent of All Might

Of course, there are different factors to take into account

Stain is basically a human, so he was chasing after Heroes with quirks that could outrun him or overpower him. He had his skill and his own agility but at the end of the day he’s a human man who has to get close enough to taste blood in order to win - I know he did this with Tensei but I just mean in his earlier years, where he was just starting out. Let’s also remember that Stain seriously injured 24 Heroes during his time as Hero Killer, so these are likely 24 Heroes that only just got away, maybe because of their quirks

Dabi has a fire quirk that works long-range. He could kill people from far away if he wanted to (and he has)

Really, Dabi has a little more advantage over Stain, quirk-wise, but agility is a big factor too. No doubt Dabi has quite good reflexes but I don’t think his agility is anything much, while Stain has been training for 10 years in the art of killing, and an extra 2-to-5 years killing Heroes; overall 12 to 15 years of agility training in order to catch up to the enemy

Another thing too is that Dabi probably started killing once he watched Stain’s video, which means Dabi has been spacing out his kills for at least a year, whereas Stain has been killing for 2-to-5 years (not counting training where he may or may not have killed a person, who knows)

There’s quite a few things to take into account between these two and how many they have killed, but it doesn’t change the end result: Stain - 17, Dabi - 30

OR AT LEAST IT WOULD BE THE END RESULT, had Stain not come up in the latest chapter and said

So, narratively, Stain bumped up to Famous Independent Villain status again. Kind of. All Might’s era is already over with, and with the general chaos after the War, I doubt anybody is keeping track of a murderer’s kill count, but still

I actually find it kind of funny that Stain was the most famous, then Dabi, and now it’s like Stain has come back to “reclaim his position” or something lmao

BUT let’s also take into account their influence

Stain inspired Dabi, then Dabi kills people and shakes the world with his reveal, causing the collapse of Hero society, then Stain comes back and, likely as a result of Dabi’s consequence, begins to kill people again. We’ve come full circle

I say “full circle” but I kind of hope Dabi and Stain keep narratively competing to see who shakes the world more. I’d love to see it

Touya breathed in. Dabi breathed out: Let’s reconstruct his death.

 [Because we know more than you think.]

Here is the funny thing: At this point we have more information about Toya’s entire childhood, than we have about Hawks’. So let’s be faster than Horikoshi thinks is good for us, and reconstruct it accuratly.

There are three big things to “assume” before I start. First: Dabi is not a Nomu. Second: Dabi is not an undercover hero. (I saw “theories” about this and I won’t waste time by listing up all the reasons this is impossible.)

Third: The “Hawks’s parent was a thief”-theory is true. (Their names are written in the same kanji; There was no need for Ending to mention this name in ch. 250, other than plot-setup; It fits chronologically in both Hawks’ and Endeavor’s history etc.)

So, Let’s tell the story of Todoroki Toya. - For this I elaborated an extreme professional graph:

Looking at the dates and following the canon rhythm of all Todoroki siblings being around 3 years apart, Dabi is currently 26.

In the picture of his shrine, he wears a traditional middle-school uniform, which means he “died” between age 14 and 16. This perfectly fits in line with the information we got from Fuyumi, which told us that Toya died, shortly after Rei left the house respectively after Shoto got his scar. (Meaning, we talk about a time-frame in which the Todoroki-children were left ‘alone’ with Endeavor.)

His scars are neat and symmetrical, which means Dabi’s scars are self-inflicted. The placing of Dabi’s facial scars perfectly matches the locations of Endeavors flame-beard, which means he tried to copy Endeavor’s looks.

We know that Endeavor stopped training Toya to focus on Shoto. (Because Toya was allowed to play with his siblings, while Shoto was dragged away. Toya had to be 12 - 14 when we saw him playing soccer with them in ch. 39.) So Toya lived at home before he died.

[We know the hard trainings-program of the HPSC would not allow many breaks to play with siblings at home. We know from Natsuo (in ch. 250) that Toya often (!) played with him. The HPSC would also have informations about a unforgettable quirk like his, if they had any conection with his “death”.]

This hilariously sad, because it means: Toyas death was not a trainings-incident inflicted by Endeavor nor was it inflicted by the HPSC!

Toya Todoroki died because of something he did himself. (Every clue points towards this and I can’t believe how many people get this wrong when theorizing.)

But this is where the thrill starts: Because we also know that Toya cared for his siblings...

And to tell you my own bloody theory: Toya wanted to proof that he wasn’t a “failure” and he wanted to protect tiny Shoto from the painful training. So he tried to impress Endeavor by teaching himself how to use fire like him - and he forced himself to handle the pain. But the flames where too hot and Toya set a huge fire. Seriously injured, in fear, shame and rage he run away from home. Since the fire had destroyed the surroundings, his family thought his body got incinerated within and declared him dead.

And Dabi was born.

...So is there anything more to think ab-

“Yeah Sherlock- How the fuck does Dabi know Hawks’ real name?”, a rhetorical (and a little rude) reader might ask.

Great question! To be honest, I’m just as confused as Hawks. (But before you throw your tomatoes, let’s see if we can change that:)

First of all, I’ll assume Dabi didn’t pay black hats to hack into the database of the Hero Public Safety Commision, because firstly, this would make his persona completly non-essential to this knowledge - and secondly, they litterally have “Safety” in their name - So I’ll fucking hope their firewalls are...  hot.

From a writing point of view it makes way more sense that Hawks shared his name with Toya Todoroki in person.

So let’s look at Hawks’ life in the graph. Hawks was born in Fukuoka, which is a five-hour-ride away from the Todoroki’s mansion in Mustafu. Tiny Hawks spent his first years of life in a dumpster. (”Ah, pardon, Sir. My bad, I failed to see the floor, because of the trash piles NEXT TO YOUR FUCKING CHIL-!”)

However there are two possibilitys:

1.: Keigo and Toya met in the HPSC in Mustafu.

If this is true, it probably happened in the (2 - 4 year) timeframe after Hawks got scouted and before Shoto got his “perfect” quirk, where Endeavor found himself still enraged about Toya’s “wasted-potential”. So forced Toya to train with the “government-kid” (…which was a prodigy in contrast to his own “failure of a son”.)

In this scenario, Hawks broke the rule of “never using his real name again” and told Toya during the match. Back then Hawks was only around 6 - 8 years old, so its plausible for him not to remember Toya’s face well. ... But on the other Hand: If Toya had ever participated in the HPSC-training, the Comission would have informations about him and his unforgetable quirk. Its unlikely that they wouldn’t recognize Dabi’s describtion in their data base.]

2.: Keigo and Toya met in Kyushu in autumn.

We know Endeavor captured “Takami”, before Keigo was recruited and forbidden to use his name.

We know it happened in autumn and we can assume Keigo was younger than seven years. There are many possibilitys- Maybe the thief Takami exploited Keigo’s quirk for criminal activitys and that is the reason Keigo was so skilled at a young age. Maybe Toya was with his father that day...

- But at this point it feels like throwing stones in the dark: Eventually we will hit something, but it might be fucking bruised.

Or what do you think? Did I make a horrible mistake somewhere up there?

Either way- I’m hyped to get more content to analyze, so I can keep ignoring my homework during quarantine.

Not sure when you're done, but for when you'rein your asks: talk about your stockpile-adaptation tradeoff theory

Ok So, this turned out very long and very rambly but i finished my homework after midnight and i won’t be stopped from posting this. Let’s call it a mix of “Stockpiled- adaptation tradeoff theory”, “Pocket’s thoughts on how the quirk singularity isn’t a thing”, “overhaul doesn’t understand evolution”, and a bit of “rubbing into AfO’s face about him not being as grand as he thinks he is”

First, let’s talk about Copy vs AfO

So, the thing about Copy is that it lets Neito reproduce the plus alpha factor in it’s entirety- all the mutations needed to activate it, and at least some what a way to instinctively turn it on and off. He copies Eri’s quirk, he gets her horn. He copies Eri’s quirk, and he’s able to know for sure that he’s activated it, but nothing still happens. That’s because for all he is now perfectly adapted to using her quirk, he doesn’t have her stockpile, or even a copy of her stockpile.

Now, AfO. He takes a quirk, but unlike Neito, his comes with whatever was stockpiled. We know this, because he was able to retain the tags that Ragdoll had on students inside of Search while he stole it, and when it was passed to Tomura. He also appears to be able to use mutation quirks, but we haven’t actually seen him take one for himself- he switches a mutation for a quirkless man, and it’s very possible that every ‘body altering quirk’ he uses at Kamino is in fact a transformation quirk, not a mutation. Let’s call this Subset A of the theory, that AfO might be able to give others mutations, but not use them himself. Whether or not that’s true, or if he just activated then deactivated the mutation, there’s the fact that after using air blast against All Might at Kamino, he shook out his hand to jog back feeling and get over the pain of the quirk’s recoil. A pain that, with one’s natural resistance to their own quirk, he shouldn’t have to really worry about- not to mention all the other ones he has to deal with.

But, for some reason, while AfO can yank everything in a stockpile quirk, he can’t yank the adaptability with it. If someone has a body suited to a fire quirk, and a fire quirk, then AfO can take the quirk, but will not have the resistance for it. This means he’ll have to seek out another quirk- he’ll have to seek out fire resistance specifically tied to a person’s plus alpha factor, rather than anything in any other part of the body.

There’s a couple of reason why, but first, lets acknowledge the slightly horrifying fact that following the rules we see with Search and from Monoma’s example, this means that if AfO stole Fatgum’s quirk, he would also be stealing every fat cell in his body linked to it- which might be all of them. which would be very very bad for one’s health. Anyway, nightmare aside, it also means stockpiled things are stored in the quirk factor. This is likely why Eraserhead is able to erase a stockpiled quirk like any other kind, but probably couldn’t temporarily stop someone from having heat resistance as a byproduct.

So, the why. Let’s talk about evolution. and lets ignore everything Chisaki said about apes because he’s a stupid man who knows nothing.

As a species, you might be inclined to say that humans are more evolved than apes. or more evolved than moss. You would be not really correct. Humans are evolved differently, but we’ve all been growing from the first living cells the same amount of time, just to suit different roles and niches. a moss is just as good at being moss as a human is at being a human. But, you could make the argument that your generation of human is more evolved than your ancestors’ generations of humans- you have, after all, been going longer. But really, in a few generations? That’s not a lot of time, really.

Even with the quirk singularity theory, there’s a lot of holes in the Doctor’s argument. Sure, Eri and a lot of the other kids are ridiculously powerful. But Kouta really isn’t. And AfO has an insane power despite being likely a first generation quirk holder. So really, its probably a lot less ‘people are being born with stronger powers’ and more ‘people with stronger powers are being allowed to live longer.’ Are the kids stronger? Or are they just in a society where they can get better training at a younger age? Survivorship bias, i tell ya, it makes for strange things. Remember, Inko’s weak telekinetic quirk is fourth gen, supposedly only one generation off from where it would be too strong to handle. That... doesn’t seem to add up. even if she had a child who had telekinetic twice as powerful as her, in omnidirection, there’s nothing really in that that sounds like it would be injurious to the holder. Thirteen can create black holes that probably killed people when first manifesting, and is old enough to be a generation above Eri. Speaking of human stations being mistaken for inherit genetics, quirk marriages where people are worse off because they meddled in a science they knew nothing about to try and do new eugenics- the todoroki children are basically unnatural and poor examples of ‘quirk singularity’

Quirks generally get more evolved in each generation, yes, unless you get no quirk or an identical set to a parent. But ‘more evolved’ doesn’t mean stronger, it can mean more complex. Case in point, back to AfO and Copy.

Why doesn’t AfO’s quirk allow him to steal resistance? Likely because the resistance for a quirk is stored in a different gene than in the plus alpha factor itself- hence Touya can get an ice resistance gene, and a fire producing quirk gene- and his quirk isn’t built to interact with that. Past that, it’s because AfO doesn’t need to interact with that- he can just go steal another quirk that covers the problem. Storing all that extra non-quirk gene would probably wreak havoc on his body- warp it like a nomu, so his quirk is evolved efficiently.

Copy, on the other hand, is certainly more complicated than “Move Quirk Factor Around”. It means mimicking a quirk, growing all necessary parts to it, and instinctively activate and deactivate. He doesn’t have immediate skill, but he does have immediate use. It also comes with whatever mutations and resistances a person has- a horn, an engine, a protection for headache relief or electrical resistance.

So, what? Why is it important

Well, let’s compare

Situation A: Monoma copies Dabi’s quirk. Monoma gains both Dabi’s flames and his ice resistance for a temporary amount of time.

Sitation B: AfO steals Dabi’s quirk. He gains the blue fire, but his natural, normal reation to both ice and heat are unchanged. Dabi is quirkless, but still has the same amount of cold resistance as before

Situation C: Monoma copies Suneater’s quirk. Monoma is able to manifest anything in his stomach, but nothing from Suneaters.

Situation D: AfO steals Suneater’s quirk. He also gets everything in Suneater’s stockpile, so whatever was in his stomach that the quirk had ‘active’- which might be everything inside, or only what he was currently using. Suneater is now quirkless, again, but also hungrier and stop being mean to my son.

So, again, why? Basically, humanity hasn’t had enough time for quirks to really streamline yet, and every quirk has its limits for a reason. AfO likely cant touch other resistances or vestigial mutations, and might not be able to even wield fully mutation quirks. Monoma, from a more evolved but not necessarily stronger generation can, because he has no other way to get the copied quirks active, and his evolutionary line solved that sometime before him.

Also, the idea of a quirk singularity is not widely accepted in universe for a good reason. There are other factors, and frankly a lot of what the doctor was talking about was how AfO finds it harder or riskier to use quirks after the fourth generation. This isn’t necessarily because they’re stronger or deadlier, it’s just because they are more complicated and rely more on other parts of one’s dna that he can’t steal.

Because he’s got the ability to take stockpile, but not adaptability, and for some reason that seems rather fitting for him- not able to adapt quite enough to ever really kill All Might, even when duplicating quirks to boost the number in his stockpile, is he?

When you woke this morning, it felt like a dream. You felt like you slept for years and was finally waking up. Not that groggy feeling kind of waking up, like your life just started anew. As cheesy as it sounds, it was because of the other occupant in your bed. Dabi was sound asleep, villains probably don't have work schedules. You carded your fingers through his spiky hair, causing him to stir in his sleep. Dabi opened one of his eyes lazily, almost staring through you. "It's too early to be up yet" he groaned. You lightly tugged on a chunk of his hair. "It's noon" you corrected him. Dabi buried his face into the bed, trying to ignore everything around him. You pulled your hand away from his hair, resting it on the sheets underneath you both.

"I didn't say stop" Dabi muttered into the sheets. A soft smile crawled onto your lips as you resumed playing with his hair. You laid in bed with him a little longer, there was no work today with the building being reconstructed. Once your stomach began to growl, you had to roll out of bed. Dabi lifted himself onto his elbows, the blanket sliding down to the middle of his back. It was then you realized he was nude, brandishing his burns. "Where are you going?" he asked. "Going to eat? You want in?" you asked. Dabi slid out of bed slowly, letting the blanket fall back onto the bed. He looked on the floor for his underwear and his pants. "I could go for a bite" he sauntered over and placed a short kiss on your lips. He nibbled on your bottom lip teasingly.

"I'm not on the menu" you swatted him away playfully. "Shame" Dabi chuckled as he followed you to the kitchen. You reached into your freezer and pulled out a box. "Hope you like frozen waffles" you called out to him. Dabi nodded taking one from you. "Wanna see something cool?" he smirked. You stayed silent, a sign for him to continue. Dabi's hand lit up with blue flame that engulfed the waffle. The flame died out quickly, producing a burning smell. "Ta-dah" Dabi stuck the pastry into his mouth and began eating it. You gave him a slow clap, rolling your eyes. "Wow, you're going to put my toaster out of business" you teased placing two waffles into your toaster. Dabi took another one from you, humming in delight. You watched him burn another one and eat it plain. "No syrup? You monster" you snickered while taking out a bottle of syrup. "Correction, villain, plus that stuff will rot your teeth" Dabi shot back. You held eye contact with him as you drowned your waffles in syrup. "I'll keep that in mind when I get arrested for cavities" your sly grin taunting him.

The morning continued with light banter between you both. Your phone had rung, excusing you from Dabi's company for a moment. "Hello ____? It's Numero, we're having an emergency meeting in the park today in the afternoon" your boss informed you. "If you can make it, please come to hear about the office change, it's easier in person than email" you could hear the distress in his voice. "Sure, I'll be there" you agreed quickly. "Great! It won't take too long, I swear on my abacus!" his voice cheered up quickly before ending the call. You turned back to Dabi, meeting his lazy gaze. "I gotta go to a meeting in the park soon, promise not to burn the place down?" you smirked as you leaned over him. Dabi let out a scoff in disgust. "That was one time, what happened to you being shaken by all that?" he rolled his eyes and pushed your face away. "You're the one who wanted to stay" you placed a soft kiss on his palm. Dabi starred at you before pulling his hand away and kissing you on the lips. "You're the one who didn't want me to leave" he replied. You ignored him and went back to your room to get a change of clothes.

By the time you finished, Dabi was sitting on your couch with a lazy stare. "Well, I'm off" you felt awkward about leaving him here. Both of you realized it was dangerous for him to be out during the day, which meant he'd probably be laying low till nighttime. "I'll be here" Dabi waved you off. As you shut your door, you missed his mischievous smirk.

You made it to the park faster than you wanted to. Your anxious thoughts on leaving Dabi behind made you walk faster. Either way, the sooner you arrived, the sooner you could leave. You recognized the familiar faces of your coworkers, each of them chatting quietly. "Oh Miss ____, I'm glad you made it" Numero's tiny assistant ran up to you with a small stack of papers. "Please take one, I have plenty to go around" she squeaked handing you a copy. You examined the paper carefully, noting the long paragraphs detailing the incident. "We'll be starting shortly, so have a seat nearby" she smiled before scampering off. You glanced around, not finding anyone you were burning to talk to. You plopped onto the grass quietly and waited for the meeting to begin.

Numero stood in the front of the group, twisting his mustache anxiously. "I'm glad you all made it and I'm glad you all seem well" he announced, clearing his throat after. "As you know, our office is under reconstruction, for now, we will be working in a temporary office owned by Sir Nighteye" he continued. A few gasped in awe while others sighed. "Anyways, you've all been forwarded relief money until we can resume work" a few cheers rang out amongst your peers. "However, please remain cautious of villain activity and try to stay in contact with your assigned agency" Numero hushed the crowd with his stern voice. His assistant held up a copy of the paper provided. "Work resumes on the date listed, see that you record your agency's stats on your own time before that date" she explained.

Afterward, everyone slowly dispersed. A few complained about the homework while others appeared over the moon about time off. You felt uneasy about having to meet with Endeavor during a time you wanted to laze about. Speaking of fiery men, you wondered what Dabi was up to. You checked your phone and noted he hadn't texted you. For a moment, you considered texting him that you were done. You decided not to, it would seem clingy. As you walked back home, you checked your bank account and your heart skipped a beat. As stated before, a large amount of money was deposited from Numero. You felt a skip in your step as you neared your apartment. Tonight, you were going to treat yourself and maybe Dabi too. You felt over the moon as you opened your door.

"I'm home!" you announced cheerfully. No reply came, filling you with anxiety. Your apartment hadn't changed, except for the absence of Dabi. You checked your phone again, still no word from Dabi. You took deep breaths, eliminating the worst possible outcome that came to mind. Dabi would most likely return when he wanted to, there was no need for you to know his whereabouts. You walked around your apartment looking for him or a note at least. You returned to your living room with no fruits of your efforts. Giving in, you sent Dabi a text notifying him of your return. Now you waited, wondering what to do with your free time. After a few minutes, your phone dinged with a notification. You quickly opened your phone to read Dabi's reply.

<Meet me in the park, wear something nice>

You stared at the text, trying to process what Dabi was planning. Ultimately, you decided to just go with it. Before you left, you put on a touch of makeup. The sun was setting by the time you made it to the park. You walked along looking around for Dabi. A strong had gripped your arm and tugged you behind a tree. A hand covered your mouth before you could scream. On instinct, you dug your elbow into the chest of your captor. He let out a grunt, but his grip didn't loosen on you.

"I-it's me!..."

You paused. It was Dabi.

You relaxed your shoulders and waited for him to release you. "Damn, I thought that was supposed to be romantic..." Dabi scowled still in pain from your attack. "You shouldn't try shady things when villains are on high alert" you nagged him. Dabi rolled his eyes. "Anyways, c'mon" he began walking ahead. You lagged behind a bit, ignorant of what he was planning. "Where are we going?" you asked. Dabi looked back, a small smirk on his face. "A date idiot, you look nice" you weren't sure to be angry or happy by his response. You realized you had stopped and were falling behind. "Hey wait!" you broke a stride to catch up with him.

Dabi took you back around some alleyways. They were lit up with signs for bars and clubs, a few emitting savory food or alcohol. "Isn't it dangerous for you to be out like this?" you asked. Dabi shrugged, stopping at a doorway. "We keep this area safe so people don't snitch on me" he explained. Dabi took your hand and pulled you into a little niche. The stairs traveled downward, causing you to slowly descended into the dimly lit area. The area opened to a fairly tamed club, a band was playing in the corner while everyone mingled. "This is where the people who don't want to be scrutinized under the public eye come, real freaks" Dabi chuckled.

You followed him to a table set up in a secluded corner. Dabi pulled your chair out, chivalry hasn't died after all. A server came by and recognized Dabi. "Well, it's been a while slick" she had said in a sly voice. "Someone has to pay your rent doll" he shot back. You watched the exchange mildly concerned. Dabi took note and cleared his throat. "Don't worry, I just helped Jaguar here when she needed it" he explained. The server sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. "I'm not that old, had I still been a man I'd take you outside" she warned. Dabi rolled his eyes and lifted his menu. "After I got those sleaze bag debt collectors off your case? You're the real villain" he chuckled. Suddenly, 'Jaguar' had a change of heart. "Oh Dabi! I would never! You're my knight in flaming armor after all!" she cooed. Dabi gagged a bit, making you laugh.

"Don't call me that, it makes me sound lame" Dabi spat. "Anyways, who is this pretty gal?" 'Jaguar' looked you over with a smile. You introduced yourself with a small wave. "Oh, how precious! I've gotta let the chefs know! Any allergies hun? You won't need these!" 'Jaguar' swiped the menus and gave Dabi a knowing smile. "This one is on the house!" she sang before disappearing behind the doors to the kitchen. You stared at Dabi, watching him lean back in his seat. "So much for a relaxing night" he sighed. "It's okay, I'm having fun" you reassured him. A few minutes passed and Jaguar flew by with water. Dabi began to ask for a drink, but Jaguar gave him an intense glare. "I won't have you getting tipsy on your first date" Jaguar scolded him.

By now, Dabi was regretting life choices as you animately waved at the passing servers. They each had a colorful personality and knew Dabi to some extent. "Shove off you guys" Dabi finally shooed them away like birds flocking to food. One of them left a plate of round fried balls on the table. "What are these?" you asked, taking one and examining it. "Fried cheese curds, try one" Dabi popped one into his mouth without hesitation. You tried one and it felt hot in your mouth. "It's good," you said around the warm cheese. "They must be picking some of my favorites, what losers" Dabi laughed. Jaguar came back around to be nosy, only to run away as Dabi glared at her. "The staff really likes you" Dabi gagged again at your comment.

"I don't need to be liked, but they aren't so bad" despite the irritation in his voice, he was smiling. "So, you just keep this area safe?" you asked. Dabi nodded. "This area is predominately villains, so I keep it in line for those who do petty crimes" he explained. "From heroes?" you continued. Dabi shrugged again. "Heroes and other villains, it doesn't hurt to have some insurance" he glanced around as he spoke. You noticed that everyone in the surrounding area appeared rather eccentric or underdressed. Not something you would see at a cafe or a five-star restaurant. "It's like the slums in a way, but rather friendly" you muttered aloud.

Dinner came and went rather quickly. Jaguar had presented the house special, which had been a dish you weren't familiar with. It tasted amazing, making you wonder how you had been missing out. Jaguar came by after you were finished, with two shot glasses. "And for dessert! Parfait shots" she placed one in front of you and one in front of Dabi. "I gave yours a little hit for being a good boy tonight" she winked at him. She turned to you and crouched down. "Oh, yours was made non-alcoholic dear but if you'd like something don't hesitate to ask" she apologized. "It's no big deal, I'm good" you nodded. "What a sweetheart, Dabi don't fuck this up" Jaguar shot him a strict glare before prancing off. You were practically rolling in your seat.

"That damn queen, let's hurry and leave already" he slammed down a large tip and took his shot in one go. You finished yours in two takes, feeling your tongue spark with sweetness. "I should make these for the club" you hummed in delight. Dabi stood up and took your hand. He pulled you to your feet and hastily exited. From behind, there was a collective "good-bye" from the staff and patrons, no doubt trying to embarrass Dabi. The cool night air brushed up against you, drawing you closer to Dabi. "Let's go this way" he led you down the road. The busy city calmed down and a still quiet filled the emptying street. Dabi pulled you into a seemingly abandoned building. "Where are we going?" you asked. "You'll see" Dabi continued forward.

A broken staircase appeared in your way. "Just a moment" Dabi crouched down and slung his arms under you. He lifted you bridal style, being careful not to let your clothes drag. "Hang on tight" he ordered. You didn't hesitate to wrap your arms around his neck. Dabi went around the staircase and climbed the broken debris skillfully. You weren't sure how many floors you went up, but eventually, he stopped at a floor with the wall broken out. "Close your eyes for a moment," Dabi asked as he placed you back on the ground. You did as he requested, still a bit unsure of the situation. Your nose caught the smell of burning and you hear the crackle of flames.

"Alright, you can look now" Dabi called out. Your eyes opened to the now dimly lit room. Moonlight fell through on one side while a dozen candles lit the other. A sheet was set up to provide coverage, Dabi stood near it with his hand outstretched. "C'mere, I set this all up for you after all" he beckoned. You approached him slowly, still shocked by this display. Your hands fell into Dabi's, allowing him to pull you closer to him. Now, standing chest to chest, you could see Dabi's blue eyes shining through the darkness. "You said you wanted a date, so here we are" he pulled you to sit down next to him. Dabi looked up, prompting you to follow his gaze.

The giant hole in the wall made it easy to see the starry sky above. "This is the best place to watch the stars, the city lights make it too difficult" Dabi muttered aloud. "It's an amazing view..." you felt a breeze blow by and it felt cold against your skin. "Here," Dabi shrugged off his coat and draped it over your shoulders. His arm slid around your waist, providing heat as well. "Thank you" a slight flush blossomed on your cheeks. Dabi was sitting so close to you, it was all so romantic. "Hey, you're missing the view" Dabi tilted his head into your line of vision. You perked up, embarrassed from being caught in a daze. "Sorry, it's just all so sudden" you apologized.

"I can be sentimental sometimes" Dabi leaned his head on top of yours. A tender moment passed by, you in Dabi's arms as you both watched the stars. A shooting star flew by, earning a gasp from you. "Make a wish! Make a wish!" you excitedly patted Dabi on the chest. "Alright, alright" he closed his eyes for a moment before opening them. "Did you make one?" he asked. "Of course, but we can't share our wishes or they won't come true" you zipped your lips to emphasize your superstitious beliefs. Dabi obeyed, going back to watching silently. Your eyes flickered to Dabi's side profile occasionally. Your wish playing over and over in your head.
