okay, I’m only four episodes in so we might get more information, but I’ve got to get back to work but I’m mediating on the sister twist and I am wondering- why the hell was miriam raised alongside rezaren as a sibling? it just seems… confusing. everything we know about tevinter attitudes towards elves and non-mages would surely make this a super controversial choice for a maigster. is it literally just that they grew up alongside each other and rezaren viewed them as siblings? because it’s pretty clear his mother viewed them as ‘lesser,’ so unless it was to try to inspire loyalty by manipulating her and her brother…? but it seems like they were still treated very much as inferior and disposable, so…?

when rezaren said that, my initial reaction was ‘oh, he’s elf-blooded!’ which I think would be really interesting. I feel like half-elves haven’t really been explored much in the franchise which is a shame, because the idea that they are phenotypically human but still discriminated against if their heritage is discovered is really intriguing. I don’t believe we have had a super prominent elf-blooded character since alistair (and iirc you might not even find that out depending on the dialogue you choose if you pursue his personal quest line). it would be especially interesting in the environment of tevinter and even more so with the son of a magister because they put so much emphasis on magical bloodlines. rezaren almost failing his harrowing would definitely be attributed to elven blood, and whilst he might know the truth (possibly as a warning to work harder than his human peers) and know that miriam and neb were his siblings and consider them as such they probably wouldn’t be allowed to know why…

When she had come seeking Miriam’s help, the mage had made promises of a little place in the Hinterlands, far away from others where it was going to be just the two of them and maybe some druffalos after the job was done. Just one more , Hira had begged. And Miriam had agreed.   And then we’ll be together? she had asked.  Hira’s answering smile had been blinding.  For a moment she actually believed she would have her happily-ever-after.

That was nice! I loved that. I can't wait to see what plays out with Meredith still being alive and encased in the red lyrium. This also begs the question, if Meredith is ultimately the one Hira was talking about meeting up with, but said her contact was in the hanged man, who's the middleman? Is it a random Templar? Or is it someone we know?.... the possibilities are endless, but I think the worst answer is that it's varric's brother, if he's still alive from the corruption. I also want to see if we get any more cameos, cause I was so expecting a Fenris cameo somewhere there. But we did get Dorian name drop (at least his last name) as the creator of the circulum, meaning his family is the ones who made that blasted thing. Will there be a sequel? They set it up for it, but I guess we gotta wait and see.

makes me think about dorians implicit biases a lot & his sort of undercurrent/undertow of slow change about slavery over inquisition. it really feels we missed out on his progression on the topic? if we had a second quest for him i think that would have been nice. even if you play an elf inquisitor you can miss out on his development

also how Shitty Men™ use kindness and manipulation to cover their boiling pit of rage in their hearts that the ppl around them could ever be considered their equals

Okay hear me out but

I dont think Qwydion and Miriam should get together. Not quite yet.

Miriam has just found out that the one woman she loved, the one who helped her learn how to want things for herself, has betrayed her (and maybe never loved her in the first place, at least from her perspective). She needs. SO much help and will probably need at least another season to be able to learn how to cope with that.

And here's where Qwydion (and the gang) come in. Qwydion is the perfect antithesis to Miriam- she's confident, silly, and most of all caring. I could see Qwydion becoming a sort-of pseudo therapist for Miriam as she's working through this resurfacing trauma. Not to say that therapist will be her only role in the friendship (I feel like Qwyd is the type of person who definitely helps her friends and lets them rant, but knows how to set boundaries if needed).

Anyway. Season 2 when.
