Dear Tumblr, life has been playing with me. In times like this, I listen to this.

It heals me. Body dysmorphia and all. All my mental issues do the jiggy jazz dance with me when this song pops up. It's something about the charm of a phallic something song that makes it, beautiful.

A conversation this morning has brought to my attention that there are still people following this blog who’ve never heard of this song, and that’s a state of affairs which must be remedied immediately.

(Fun fact: this particular song was the subject of a regulatory case brought before the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council in 2004. The Council determined that complaints about the song being played during daytime timeslots were unfounded, as the lyrics are simply talking about having good self-esteem, and therefore do not meet the standard to be classified as obscene.)

For the uninitiated, mirror writing is a script that runs in the opposite direction to traditional writing. It can only be read correctly when held up to a mirror. In da Vinci's case, it was left-handed and reversed, making it quite challenging to decipher without a mirror. This unusual style of writing is one of the most puzzling aspects of da Vinci's vast collection of notes and drawings.

Leonardo's mirror writing appears in thousands of pages of his private notebooks, covering everything from engineering blueprints to anatomical sketches and artistic studies. It's an intriguing script, flowing from right to left with the letters themselves reversed. To the casual observer, it's a jumble of indecipherable symbols; but with a mirror, the real message comes to light.
