"go," the scribe huffs with annoyance. "she's already waiting for you over there."

"fine! but i'm doing it because i want to, not because you told me to."

alhaitham rolls his eyes, shoving kaveh who stumbles unceremoniously. "i'm only telling you because she told me to."

(the she in question—one of your close friends—watches from behind alhaitham with a mischievous glimmer in her eyes.)

all the while, you're caught up in a daydream across the quiet library, your nose buried in a book that is not academic in the slightest.

(that's your own little secret, though.)

your daydreams nowadays consist of pretty, silken blonde hair and captivating ruby eyes; something your friend has caught onto with a quickness. she's been grilling you for a few days about it.

("soo, kaveh, huh?"

"n-no! i've never even talked to him!"

"you know he's the only other person here with that description though, right? anyone could put it together."

"... okay. w-well, what about it?"

"all i'm saying, i can set you up if you like? i'm, um,"—a hastily cleared throat—"friends- mhm, friends with his roommate!"

"you don't have to do all that for me... i'm okay with looking from afar."

"but where's the fun in that?")

in fact, you're so caught up in your daydreams and reminiscing that you don't even notice kaveh himself approaching your seat. he clears his throat, gently tapping on the table in front of you to get your attention.

you jump slightly, letting out a squeak that makes kaveh's lips twitch into an endearing smile. your face flushes with embarrassment as you look up at him.

(he later tells you it looks like there are stars there, twinkling in your eyes. he thinks this is the moment he first fell in love with you.)

"hi! um.. kaveh, right?"

his eyes widen slightly as his name falls from your lips. he thinks his name has never sounded so pretty before, and he yearns to hear that melody again and again. he would never get tired of it.

"mhm, that's me. you're alexi, right?"

you nod your head and bite your lip to stamp down the smile that pulls at your lips—unsuccessfully, might i add. you're smiling so brightly, glimmering with a beautiful joy that captivates kaveh.

"mhm."

kaveh lets his smile widen, no longer a small twitch of his lips. he can't help the chuckle that escapes him as he looks down upon you.

(later, your friend tells you it looks like there were genuine hearts in his eyes. he really was smitten from the get-go.)

"would you like to go out and get coffee with me sometime? my treat."

the invitation out sends your heart into a spiral, pounding an unsteady rhythm beneath your ribcage. you can't help the way you nervously giggle, tucking an errant stray of hair behind your ears.

"i would love that."
