(Safe Trip) We write to you with the conclusions of our investigation into the synthesized audio transmissions picked up by the deep space telescope at regular intervals since 1986. The source was traced to two brothers in Kawasaki, Japan, who identified themselves as Satoshi and Makoto. When we raided the building, they were huddled around a synthesizer manufactured by the Casio Corporation, model number CZ-5000.In their archives we discovered a wealth of colourful and ear-pleasing material created entirely using this music-making device in the early 1990s. We asked them to provide copies so that we could make these compositions available to the public for the first time. They handed us a compact disc that bore the handwritten code “ST006”.

En la “búsqueda” del secuenciador perfecto, en una mezcla entre “fetiche sintetista” y compra necesaria (las compras por GAS siempre son necesarias, no? ) adquirí por muy bajo precio este Casio SZ-1 contemporáneo de la serie CZ de Casio. En realidad se trata del secuenciador que incluye el CZ5000 por defecto y es un secuenciador muy básico, que puede tener sentido dentro de un teclado con funciones de secuenciador pero no como un dispositivo autónomo, así que acabe vendiéndolo. 

Mucha suerte allí donde esté..

When asked about my favourite synths, I always say the CZ-1. I’m lucky enough to own some incredible analog legends but these simple tricks make the Casio CZ a tool of it’s own, Here is a really cool patch I made, It’s just a 1 oscillator Filtered Pulse Wave and a Pitch Envelope. As simple as it is, it’s something that I couldn’t get from any other synth. The polyphonic pitch envelope really brings it to another place. It doesn’t have to be a severe +7 semitone jump like this patch either, it can be as simple as slightly detuning each note or sliding through octaves on attack/release and everything else in between. Honestly, I’ve played more lush sounding synths, the Prophet is one of them, but the CZ’s just have such a unique sound with features that you can’t get from anything else, and they can live really close to the analog world.
