Pentire Street Productions present William Shakespeare’s perennial tale of Machiavellianism – RICHARD III.
In this reimagination, The Tragedy of King Richard the Third has been set in London’s East End, 1966, with the title role being split into two characters.
Performing at the Barons Court Theatre from the 31st October to 19th November 2017 (excluding Monday 6th & 13th November).
After months of gang violence, an uneasy and tenuous peace returns to the East End. With Edward on his deathbed, who will claim the inheritance of The Firm? His younger twin brothers may have their eyes set on leadership, but they are not alone: they will have to do everything they can to secure their rule against the threat of Edward’s daughter. Meanwhile, more gangs assemble south of the Thames in preparation for a bloody takeover to oust the Krays from their throne, one which will shake the criminal underworld of London to its core.
The eponymous role of Richard III has been reinvented as two characters in this production to echo the most infamous gang leaders in 1960s London.
Shakespeare’s perennial tale of Machiavellianism has been transformed by Pentire Street Productions to follow an indomitable rise to power in the East End. The production company was formed by a group of students to not only undertake projects in film and theatre, but to also build educational outreach programs to bridge the gap between the amateur and professional industries.
Pentire Street Productions Previous work (film): ‘Best To Say Nothing’ (2016), ‘In My Mind’ (2017) Previous work (theatre): ‘Rubber’ – Edinburgh Fringe 2016. An immersive show set and performed in a car that deals with an abusive relationship and sex trafficking. As an intimate piece, two audience members are driven around in a fly-on-the-wall experience. 2 x 5*, 2 x 4* – ‘Chilling and absolutely essential to partake in’, ‘Rubber will be your Fringe highlight’. We will be performing ‘Rubber’ again in London in early 2018.
Previous work (education): Through 2016-2017 we set up a Schools’ Film Festival, in association with the University College London Volunteering Services Unit, where we offered inner London secondary schools the chance to make a short film following from a series of workshops from aspiring students, who themselves had received workshops from industry professionals. http://ift.tt/2xjzsiN
