to me, other than jackie (and later johnny), i seriously think viktor vektor is one of the only other people in the entire game who truly cares about v; unconditionally.

like vik never asks anything from v. he doesn't beg v to help him with something or give them a "if you help me, i'll help you" speech. he helps v solely just because he cares about them and their wellbeing. like before the heist, vik is willing to give v the koroshi optics just because!! gives away 20k worth of cyberware with a slap of an I.O.U and a promise to pay him back in the future. which is OPTIONAL???? he never even expected v to return the money at all either. he did it just because he wanted to see v chase their dreams of becoming a legend. and if i'm remembering correctly, when you do go to pay him back, he gets upset with v, brushes it off as a favor, and tells them NO!!! that is until v insists he takes it!!

not only that but also vik giving v a couple of his old jackets from his younger, punk days? that's so cute. telling them he doesn't want them to get cold when they get to the big leagues like vik cares SO MUCH for v and it makes my heart weep for him later in the game.

for he, who had just lost jackie as well, who now had to sit and watch as another very important person in his life die. slip through his fingers where he had no control over it— he couldn't do anything to save v from the relic and it killed him. i can’t imagine how many sleepless nights he must have had after v was dragged to his place by goro. and after HE had to give them the bad news. sitting awake in his little makeshift office, mulling over and over again what he could do to help or to make things easier; only to come up with the exact same solution again and again—that he couldn’t.

and yet, he tried to make things easier, joke around and laugh with v. cheer them on during their fight and even coach them through the round. but watching someone you love and care for so deeply literally…dying before your eyes, god. and the fact that vik, no matter what, always welcomes v back into his life with open arms?? no questions asked??

Johnny meant it when he said it. All those damn years ago, he even believed it then.

"It's 2015, if you could do it all again, what would you change? Anything at all?"

"I think I'd do Kerry."

Okay so maybe he's not smart. And maybe that's why Rouge left him there at the drive-in theater. But that time before V started to phase back into his body, he let himself sit and think—stare out into the void without anything to block out the 'what if's.

Maybe he really would have lived longer if he had valued the people in front of him as more than a means to an end, or something to drown out everything else for a hot minute. Back then, he didn't want the implications that came with just fucking a friend—the fact that Kerry would've wanted some kind of stupid relationship—would it have been better if he tried? Would it have gotten rid of that apathy and anger that seemed to swirl constantly in his head? Maybe it would've knocked some sense into him.

Hearing Kerry's name everywhere makes some kind of jealousy burn in his chest. He was the one that pushed him to do his own thing, and yet, there he was, picking at the paint of the abandoned car as he thought about him, as more than what he could have been back then. Johnny used to call them friends, but would shout and bitch about him like his smile hadn't ever made Johnny feel like he was choking.

He would've done Kerry, those what? Sixty-two years ago? But he might've held him close after and had a night of deep, restful sleep for the first night in his life.

But hey, it's his fault, ain't it? For spewing shit and fucking off to get himself killed. Maybe he would've lasted a little longer if someone wanted to hold him too. It didn't matter if it was V's softness melting into him—He used to want nice things too.

But I'll give it a second installment! 22. (round 2) your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores

The Malorian is not just a normal gun. Putting aside the fact that when it was commissioned, it was intended to be wielded by a cyberarm (unless the user wanted a quick amputation), it's arguably an extension of The Hand. Yes, yes, game mechanics and it's been 50+ years, surely it's been modified by 2077, etc etc. But the lore behind the Malorian is tasty tasty stuff and I wish it got more attention. It's something I already have planned to dip into in Vaye's canon fic because it's one thing to see cyberpsychosis in regard to implanted chrome, and entirely another to see it in a weapon the user physically links into to.

And that's the other part I find interesting. According to the Black Dog story, The Malorian requires a physical jack-in/link to work properly. And via that link it's programmed to ramp up the user's accuracy and thirst for blood.

Now, obviously, as with most things in this universe, there's a degree of malleability to everything, and this is all open to interpretation. All I know is that this gun has intrigued me since day one, and not just because of its previous owner.
