Yoo Jimin had to be the main character.
That title came with strength, reassurance, and most importantly, worth. Yoo Jimin so desperately wanted to be worthy. Being born to a wealthy family had its benefits, and its downsides. The comfortable living, the luxurious house, came with expectations. Constantly fighting for the love of parents who lived in the office, fighting to prove that she was worth something. This drove Jimin to prove herself, to be the best player in her team, be the best student she could be, be the best. But it was never enough for Jimin. No matter how good her grades were, how precise her spikes were, how perfect she was, she could never be enough, never enough to fit the image she had for herself. And if she wasn't worthy enough for herself, how could she be worthy enough of love? Or of you?
Jimin never forgot you. You, who helped pull her out of her first ever "slump", as it were. Back then, hearing of Volleyball trials, Jimin signed up on a whim, thinking her lack of experience would immediately phase her out of contention. Surprisingly though, Jimin made it through the selection process. So here she stood, wearing the school's volleyball jersey, standing around with the other new players. She should have been proud, her school's volleyball program was nothing to scoff at, but Jimin wanted nothing more than to tear the jersey off. It felt suffocating, the seams of the collar biting into her skin as she pulled the collar from her neck, looking around as the other rookies began to start practising with the volleyball, all obviously more experienced than her. Not wanting to look weak, Jimin grabbed the nearest ball, trying to mimic the actions of those around her. Her inexperience betrayed her though, as she desperately tried to keep the ball up after fumbling again and again. The others around her began to look at her, and at that point, Jimin wanted nothing more than to run, hide her face, and never show it again. Embarrassed, Jimin immediately lowered her head, running out of the training hall. The other rookies may have stayed silent, but Jimin could hear what they thought. She wasn't good enough. What was she doing here? She didn't belong here. She di-
"Are you alright?" Jimin heard a worried voice next to her, causing her to hurriedly wipe her tears away. She wasn't going to embarrass herself again.
"Yeh, I'm alright." Jimin whispered, looking up to see you, the darkness of the corridor she had escaped to coupled with the light from the training hall behind you made you seem out of this world. Not of this world, someone sent down to help Jimin.
Extending a hand to Jimin, you gave her a reassuring smile, watching Jimin look uncertainly at you, before taking your hand, allowing you to help her out.
"Mr Zai wants us to pair up and rally a little. You ready?" You asked, moving to grab a ball.
Discouraged by her previous blunders, Jimin shook her head.
"I'm sorry, but I think you should find someone else, I'm just going to waste your time and make you look bad too." Jimin muttered.
"Thought you'd say that. Think fast." You said, before chucking the ball straight at Jimin.
In the moment, Jimin's instincts took over, her body unconsciously mimicking the forms she had seen earlier, allowing her to receive the ball pretty well.
"How..." Jimin muttered, causing you to smirk a little.
"You might be green, but we were all new once. You look like you have so much potential too, so don't worry alright?Let's go." You smiled, resting your hand reassuringly on Jimin's shoulder, gesturing to the training hall, Jimin nodding in response.
"Also, my name's Y/N. What's your name?" You asked as the two of you walked back to the training hall.
"Jimin. Yoo Jimin."
Jimin loved the game. The game gave her power, made her feel like a character plucked right out of a movie. Turns out Y/N was right, Jimin did have potential. Though she was the worst of the rookies at first, she picked up skills remarkably quickly, but especially spiking. Jimin fell in love with the feeling of soaring up into the air, feeling the wind in her face, the way she pushed herself off the ground, allowing herself to hang in the air, then sending the ball down with a boom, like thunder in the sky. The game was a poor substitute for the love her parents didn't care enough to give her, Jimin knew this, but she didn't have any alternatives, so volleyball was all she had. Jimin wished she had you too, but she witnessed the injury that took you out of the game, the gut-wrenching sight of your bone protruding from your right arm was all Jimin needed to know, you were done playing Volleyball. Thankfully though, you still had some classes with her, especially maths. God, you were the only thing that made maths bearable.
Regardless, Jimin worked hard, proving her mettle through hard work, and when that wasn't enough, she proved her worth by outright beating anyone who challenged her.
She played hard, eventually beginning to play with the older team. As an outsider, Jimin had to work harder than ever, it was never easy to integrate herself into an already established team after all, Team Dynamics were set, chemistry was established, but how could the main character be a reserve? So day and night, Jimin worked herself exceptionally hard, barely being able to stay awake in class. Exhausted, Jimin persisted, staying at the court way after hours to train, even a slight deviation in the accuracy of her serves and spikes was unacceptable.
Panting, Jimin leaned at the side to the stage, heaving as she wiped the sweat off her brows.
"Think fast." Jimin heard a voice from the side of the door.
Looking up, Jimin raised her hand, catching a flung bottle of chilled energy drink.
"Been working hard Rookie, impressive." The girl who threw the energy drink smirked, leaning on the side of the doorframe.
"Gotta make it to the main team somehow. Thanks." Jimin raised the drink into the air, beginning to drink the energy drink.
"I heard you're going to make the main team soon, and I think you need some specialised training." The girl smirked, beckoning to the court,Jimin nodding in excitement at the prospect of making the main team soon.
"Sure, I'm Jimin by the way."
"Ryujin."
Jimin loved Shin Ryujin. And for the longest time, Jimin thought Ryujin loved her too. Ryujin was the first one to ever make Jimin forget. Forget you, forget how empty her home life was, and only focus on her. Ryujin just always had a way with words, a way of making Jimin feel, for the first time in her life, like she was truly the main character. Like, she mattered, like she was worth something. Hell, she’s the one who suggested she should have the English name of Karina. Their off-court chemistry worked wonders on the court too, Ryujin's role as a setter making her and Jimin link up like a dynamic duo. Ryujin would bring her presents after big games, bring them for couples massages after extra long training sessions, take Jimin out for meals whenever the rookie spiker felt down. For the first time, Jimin really did feel like the main character. Jimin and Ryujin, the two female leads of the perfect Romance story. Then it all came crashing down. It was after a game against their biggest rivals, a tight game that had come down to the wire, where Ryujin first interacted with an older player from their rivals, renowned Ace Spiker, Hwang Yeji. Jimin had a bad feeling, feeling knots form in her stomach, looking at the way Ryujin looked at the feline-eyed spiker.
"Ryu, you want to grab dinner soon? I heard there's a new place at the mall, they serve a killer steak, you want to grab some?" Jimin asked as she wiped her sweat off her brow, grabbing a towel.
"Oh, I actually have plans tonight? Rain Check?" Ryujin casually said, touching up her makeup in the mirror. Plans? Ryujin never had plans on game days.
Brushing it aside, Jimin nodded
"Alright then, another day then?" Jimin asked, to which Ryujin nodded absentmindedly, looking at her phone, her face suddenly glowing up at a chime, before grabbing her bag, whistling as she exited the room.
From that day onward, things felt different. The gifts stopped coming, the couples massages stopped, then everything stopped. Jimin was abandoned, and she knew it. A chance encounter at the mall while Ryujin was supposedly visiting some relatives out of town clued Jimin into what had happened, seeing Ryujin and Yeji at an ice cream parlour. Originally, Jimin tried her best to justify it to herself, that Ryujin just made a new friend, and was afraid of how Jimin would react. Yeah, that had to be it. It took Minjeong almost ripping her hair out trying to get Jimin to see straight again, did Jimin finally accept the truth. Ryujin wasn't hers anymore. Perhaps she never was.
Jimin had a date circled in her calendar, crimson red, almost like blood dripping down the paper, the date she would finally get her revenge. Her clap back moment near the climax of the movie. She was facing their rivals once again. It was her chance to prove she was strictly superior to Hwang Yeji. The one who stole Ryujin. Or did she just speed up what Ryujin was going to do to Jimin anyway? It didn't matter, none of it did. Nothing would matter when Jimin sent the ball thundering down, proving once and for all, she was worth it all. So she worked herself even further to the bone, forgoing her studies for the game. Jimin was able to coast for a little though, she was good enough at all her subjects where her slipping up on revision wouldn't be too visible. Well, all but Math. Jimin's math teacher definitely noticed the drop. She tried talking to Jimin, but the girl's mind was obviously elsewhere. Jimin's math teacher was at her wits end, wondering how else she could help the overworked athlete. A tutor, maybe?
The resounding smash of the volleyball drew the murmurs of the other members in the team. Jimin was always a good spiker, sure, of that they had no doubt. But something was wrong today. Some thought Jimin was possessed by a ghost. That didn’t seem likely. Ghosts got tired. Yoo Jimin never did.
“That’s the ace spiker for you.” The onlookers murmured as they sipped their water, looking on in shock and awe.
“Is she…okay?” Chaewon quietly asked Minjeong. She’d usually be making jokes, but now, even she knew something was wrong.
“She’s working through some stuff. Don’t worry about it, let’s get back to practising alright?”
“Hey, Karina, you should take a break. The boys need the court for a game soon too.” Ryujin walked up to Jimin, tapping her on her shoulder to get her attention.
“I don’t need it.” Jimin coldly replied, slapping Ryujin’s hand off her shoulder, before taking the ball, walking to a side of the court to continue practising her spikes.
“What’s the issue now?” Ryujin said with a sigh, rolling her eyes
“You know damn well what the issue is.” Jimin coldly replied.
“I-” Ryujin begins to stutter, unable to formulate anything close to a response.
“Save whatever you have to say, I’m not interested. But don’t let your new affection for your newfound love throw your game off. If I sense even a hint of deference to Hwang, I’m bringing this up to Coach, and you will never see the court wearing this Jersey again. Is that understood?”
“Whatever.” Ryujin paused for a moment, before walking away, grabbing her bag before leaving practice early.
“What happened?” Coach Starr asked, his usual stoic face on display
“She’s going to find her girlfriend I guess, it’ll be fine. Though we should watch her performance tomorrow. I’m not too sure she can play up to par against our rivals anymore.” Jimin commented, all the while unleashing her unrelenting assault on the ground, her spikes raining down like artillery strikes.
“She with that Hwang girl?” Coach Starr asked with a sigh, Jimin stopping her practice for a moment to nod.
“Karina.” He began, one hand in front of her to block her from spiking.
“Do you want Ryujin on the court with you tomorrow? If she’s really dating the opponent team’s spiker, even if she’s still playing for us, it’s going to mess up team chemistry. If she could turn her back on you, who’s to say she won’t turn hers on the whole team.”
“It’s your call coach. I trust you.”
“All right, I’ll inform you guys about the lineup by tonight. Don’t practise till too late. You need fresh legs tomorrow.” Coach Starr commented, tossing Jimin an isotonic drink, walking out of the hall, a resounding slap to the door frame.
Jimin looked at the drink, twisting the cap open, the fizzle of the drink simmering.
“Oh, and, Karina.” Jimin heard Coach suddenly speak out.
“Bring the hammer down kid.”
Jimin loved the pressure. The pressure felt like the hammer to forge the sword that would split the sun. The atmosphere in the gym was unparalleled. Fans from both teams cheered their lungs out, the stomps from the grandstand seemed to shake the ground on which the stadium was built.
“Huddle up. Huddle up.” Coach shouted out, the rapid tapping of his marker on the whiteboard, notes from the game thus far.
Jimin’s sweat trickled from her forehead, a hurried wipe as she quickly sipped her water, looking to the score.
They had won the first set pretty handily, a 25-16 scoreline, spearheaded by a vicious barrage from Jimin, assisted not by Ryujin, but instead the sub spiker, Chaewon, who had been mostly deployed defensively together with Minjeong, the trusty libero. This tactic clearly threw the opponents off, as setter duties had always lied firmly on Ryujin’s shoulder. It was clear to any bystander that Ryujin was getting frozen out of the team. She was rarely part of the rally, and barely in the defence. This was clearly noted by the opponents too. In the second set, instead of spiking the ball to the back, where Minjeong would usually effortlessly save it, they began tipping the ball instead, and the areas that usually were covered by Chaewon now found itself woefully undefended, and easily exploited. Jimin tried to attack back in force, but their defence had also adapted, she found shots shoved back into her face, only saved by Sakura’s nimble feet. Nevertheless, the scoreline went in favour of the opponents, 25-20.
“This is bullshit!” Jimin was pulled from her thoughts with a shout.
“Ryujin, you’ve been invisible on the court. The hits are just going to Chaewon, and she’s doing well. We need another defensive anchor alongside Yuna to cover the tip, so you’re coming off for Yunjin.” Coach Starr said calmly.
“Coach, I’m the best setter on the team and you know it! I can contribute so much more if I’m involved in the plays.” Ryujin lamented, frustrated as she threw her hands in the air.
“You wouldn’t bring a defective gun to war.” Minjeong quietly muttered.
“What was that?” Ryujin shouted, turning to Minjeong, tempers flaring as she clenched her fist.
“You heard me.” Minjeong spat back, rolling her eyes.
It took two other members each to hold the two angry members back.
Just as they seemed to burst out from the hold, a member from the officiating team walked over to the bench.
“Coach, do ensure your athletes do not cause too much of a commotion, or we will be forced to consider this a forfeit.” The official said in a monotone voice, before turning, walking back to the table, where she shared a disapproving glare at the team’s bench
“Enough. Or I’m taking you both off the team.” Coach yelled, shutting the entire group up. It was rare to see him raise his voice, so it quickly stunned the team.
“Whatever.” Ryujin grumbled, slamming her bottle into the ground before grabbing her bag, walking away.
“Good riddance.” Minjeong mumbled.
“You owe me 40 suicides after this game Minjeong.” Coach Starr said, Minjeong looking back at him with a sigh.
“Okay team huddle up. They’ve been killing us on the tip. Chaewon, you’re gonna be playing slightly higher up, Yunjin, cover Chaewon’s back. Jimin, they’re beginning to hone in on you, so I need you to play a setter role, or a decoy even. So when Minjeong or Yunjin get the ball up, if it gets to you, draw their defence in, then let Sakura work.”
Defer? But…this was her moment. The main character didn’t defer. She ploughs through, she asserts her power.
“Coach, I don’t think that’s the best choice. Karina’s our best weapon, I don’t think it’s best if I’m the one attacking.” Sakura piped up, sensing Jimin’s hesitance.
“No, no, we stick to the plays. I trust you, Sakura, we’ve got this.” Jimin places her hand on Sakura’s shoulder, slightly hesitating, but shaking her worry away, a small smile.
“Alright champs. Wreak Havok.” Coach said with a smile
Going back to the court, Jimin prepped herself, getting into a ready position right next to Yeji.
“Break a leg.” Yeji said with a smirk
Jimin seethed, but stayed silent, keeping her head in the game. She had to win this game. This was the climax. Main Characters didn’t lose.
“Timeout!” The opposition coach shouted out, a tense moment in the game. Jimin’s team was up, 24-23, with the serve now coming from the opposition.
As the team huddled up, Jimin noted a small smirk on the Coach’s face.
“All right, good work champs. Sakura’s been killing them, since their defence has been compressing on her. For this next one, Karina, get the spike in two, break their rhythm, we’ve lulled them into a pattern, it’s time to break them. Understood?”
This was it, Jimin thought. This was her moment.
The serve soared over, a well controlled dig by Minjeong placing the ball right above Jimin.
This is it.
Jimin rose up, hands primed for a set to Sakura, but at the last second, she sent the ball thundering down. Yeji had seen it, her hands going up as soon as she could, but she had been caught unaware, and she could only watch as the ball slipped helplessly above her fingers.
The court erupted into celebration as the bench charged the court, confetti flying and people jumping in jubilation.
Jimin smiled. It was time for the credits now.
In the corner of her eye, however, Jimin noticed Yeji, who had sat down on the court, followed by a figure, who patted her back in an attempt to cheer her up.
“It’s okay baby, you’ll get it next time. You played amazing.” She whispered, Yeji nodding with a smile, as the two shared a kiss.
Yeh, Jimin won the game, but as she looked at Ryujin and Yeji, her eyes were dull and lifeless. She couldn’t even say she had lost Ryujin’s love. It was hard to lose something she had never had. Jimin knew one thing for sure though. This wouldn’t have happened to the main character. The main character would have gotten their happily ever after, or some semblance of it by now. Maybe this was the overlord’s plan, the writer of this story way of punishing her, how could Jimin had even dared think herself worthy of being the main character, or of love. Worth anything?
“Karina. Could you stay back for a short while?” Ms Kam said, organising her papers.
“I think you know why I held you back today.” Ms Kam said with her hands crossed, sighing as she leaned forward.
“Now I don’t blame you, you’ve always been a stellar student, your track record is unblemished, but it’s undeniable that your grades are slipping. So I think it’ll be in your best interest if you get a tutor. I’ve arranged for another student to come tutor you.”
“I-” Jimin was just about to interject. She didn’t need help.
“I’ve talked to them earlier, and they’ve agreed. Y/N is going to be tutoring you. Is that going to be a problem?” Ms Kam asked.
“Not at all, Ms Kam.”
“No, Karina, you bring the exponent down here, not change it." You explained as you leaned over, using your pencil to trace the workings.
“Oh, right…” Jimin groaned, looking at the paper.
Jimin already knew this, logarithms curiously were one of the topics she was okay at. But she found it hard to focus while you sat next to her, looking at her inquisitively, eyes piercing. What made it worse however, was Karina. Only people who knew her recently called her Karina. In her mind, to you, she was Jimin. She let out a groan just thinking about it. Was she that unworthy of attention, was she really such a side character that you didn’t even remember what she introduced herself to you as? She shook the thought from her mind, instead revelling in your presence. It hadn’t been long since…well, since Ryujin, so it was good to have you around. A comforting presence, a guardian, the same guardian that had reached into the depths and pulled her out of the darkness. Jimin had friends of course, but funnily enough, no matter how much they did for her, they didn’t come close to the serenity that you brought her. The last time she had felt this was well…but you weren’t a bad person. You couldn’t be. Jimin doubted she’d be able to take that blow.
Speaking of friends…
"Umm, Karina, do you know them?" you asked as you lightly nudged Jimin, gesturing to the three girls who instantly tried to duck away.
‘Shit!’ Jimin thought to herself. Hadn’t she told them not to come so early? Now you probably thought she was weird.
"Ning, Aeri, Min, stop being weird, you're scaring my friend!" She chided as she gestured them over, the three sheepishly walking over
"Sorry about that Ji, this one insisted we watch." Winter explained, gesturing to Giselle, who raised her hands to surrender.
‘I’m going to delete your tumblr account Aeri I swear.’ Jimin thought to herself, quietly seething
"Y/N, I've got to go, I'll see you here tomorrow, same time?" She asked as she hurriedly shoved her stuff into the bag
"Sure thing Karina, see you!" You waved, smiling awkwardly
"Call me Jimin!" She said, before running off with the 3 other girls
“Aeri I’m going to fucking kill you!” Jimin shouted as soon as she was sure you were out of earshot.
“What the fuck!” Jimin shook her head, the three looking at each other in confusion. They wanted to prank her a little, but this reaction wasmore than they had really expected.
“Sorry about that, it’s just…don’t do that again okay?” Jimin asked the three girls, who cautiously nodded, sharing looks as they tried to decipher what Karina was doing.
“Umm, Ning, Min, you girls, go get us a seat? I need to ask Jimin something.” Aeri fibbed, shooing them away.
“That’s the one you partnered with didn’t you? When you first joined? I recognise them. They’re the one that you-” Aeri said teasingly before Jimin jumped at her, her hand covering Aeri’s mouth, looking around hurriedly to ensure no one could have overheard them.
“It was a long time ago.” Jimin rolled her eyes
“Still, there was obviously something there. Maybe you can go for a ride there, get your mind off of the other bitch.” Aeri rolled her eyes at the mention
“I’m not going to treat Y/N like a rebound. They deserve someone who loves them. Someone good, someone kind, someone…”
“Someone that?” Aeri asked in confusion.
“Hey, they found a seat, let’s go.” Jimin said, grabbing Aeri by the arm, pulling her to the table.
“Tell Jimin I can see her looking, she’s not being slick.” Jimin looks at Aeri’s phone in shock, before looking at Minjeong, who teasingly waved at her.
Jimin stuck her tongue out at Minjeong, before quickly turning away from you, not wanting you to catch her staring. She had finally somewhat made up for lost time with you, being able to spend time with you. Under the guise of tutoring lessons of course, but still, it helped Jimin get her mind off of everything, and she was beyond grateful for that. It would be detrimental to the cause if you were to catch Jimin staring, like some sort of creep.
“I don’t know why she thinks there’s anything going on with Y/N and I. They spend more time with Minjeong than they do with me anyways.” Jimin said, trying to quash the jealous tone in her voice.
“Who knows? Jealous.” Aeri mumbled the last word under her breath, but Jimin clearly heard it, shooting Aeri a look.
“Listen, the two of you clearly have something going on, but you both aren’t doing anything for god knows why.” Aeri says, leaning back in her chair.
“That’s not the case, it’s j-”
“Hey guys!” Yi Zhuo quickly said, a smile plastered on her face as she threw her bag down to the ground and jumped next to Aeri.
“Woah, class is over already?” Aeri commented as she playfully wrestled with Yi Zhuo, Jimin’s gaze turning to you and Minjeong, Jimin’s eyebrow raising as she noted a slightly worried expression on her face.
“Umm, I need a rain check on the hang out later. There was some sudden shift in schedules and there’s going to be some technicians heading to my place later. I’ll need to go back since Hanni can’t handle it on her own.” You said apologetically, hastily packing up your bag.
“And I’m not sure if I can do our tutoring session today Ji, I’m sorry.” You turned to Jimin with a disappointed look on your face, and she shared in your disappointment, having been looking forward to this for a good while.
“Oh, if it’s not too much trouble, I can just go with you to your place. We can just have the lesson there if you don’t mind.” Jimin quickly offered, though she was pretty sure she hadn’t even processed it in her mind before carelessly blurting out the offer.
Jimin looked hopefully at you, while also shooting a dirty glance at Minjeong and Aeri, who clearly had some thoughts about your proposition.
“Oh…umm, sure thing. But just a warning, my sister is a little bit of a gremlin.” You said with a slight chuckle.
“Sounds familiar.” Jimin chuckled as you scrunch your nose in faux anger.
“Hey!” You chuckled
“Alright, you guys have fun, we’ll go get ice cream, make this more of a bicycle situation.” Minjeong said, Aeri stifling a chuckle before walking off together.
“What are they talking about? I don’t have a bicycle?” You asked Jimin, who shook her head in exasperation.
“Don’t worry about it, let’s go.”
“Umm, you can just sit here, I’ll go talk to the technicians.” You said to Jimin, who nodded with a smile, getting seated at the sofa.
Just as she was about to pull her phone out, she heard someone call out to you, before sitting on the couch next to Jimin.
“Who’s this? Why’s she so pretty? Did you kidnap her?” Hanni shouted out.
“I’m gonna ground you!” Was the only reply back which elicited a chuckle from Jimin
“You must be Karina. I’m friends with Yunjin.” Hanni said with a smile
“You can just call me Jimin. I take it you’re Hanni, Y/N’s sister.”
“Sister, Superior, Caretaker, take your pick. I take it you’re Y/N’s long suffering girlfriend?” Hanni asked with a curious look.
“No, no, nothing like that. Y/N’s my tutor.” Jimin said, rapidly shaking her head.
“Oh, you’re the girl they won’t shut up about.” Hanni said, a light blush on Jimin’s face now.
“I’m sure Y/N complains a lot about me.” Jimin awkwardly chuckles.
“Nope, not really, they can’t shut up about how amazing you are, and about how smart you are.” Hanni nonchalantly said
“Just for the record, I wouldn’t mind if you dated my idiot sibling. They’re a little slow sometimes, but they’ve been through alot, and they deserve someone who’ll take care of them, and love them. I can’t take care of them forever, you know?” Hanni ended the last line with a small chuckle, Jimin letting out a light giggle too, but was still plagued by a thought.
“Y/N’s great. Anyone would be lucky to have them.” Jimin quickly replies, a futile attempt to hide her opinions that Hanni does not let go unnoticed.
“But not you?”
Time flew fast, and before any of you knew it, the National Exams that would dictate the trajectory of your lives had come and gone. Jimin had found those months particularly off putting. She had all the faith in her exams, of course, she didn’t like to be a braggart but she was naturally adept at the subjects, and her one weak spot was patched up by you, the person Jimin wished could help her patch her broken heart too, but alas, circumstance made it difficult to hang out. Jimin felt herself too big a burden on you already, “wasting” your time to help her make progress on a subject, and thus, despite her longing for some proximity with you, she had decided to leave you alone to study. These exams were important after all, the last thing Jimin wanted to be was a burden, or a distraction. She wasn’t worth that after all.
Now, the last chapter of her school life. Grad Night. She had been excited for this, really, really excited. But her eyebrows creased as she looked in the mirror. This was supposed to be a glorious day with not just her girls, but you too. Jimin had pulled all the stops for this, she was sure she was prepared. But that goddamn pimple just had to show up. Jimin tried what she could, makeup, patches, but nothing seemed to work. With a sigh, she sat down on her bed, seeing the group chat light up. Noticing a stunning lack of the group’s resident chronically online queen, Jimin and Yi Zhuo were forced to come to the conclusion that Aeri had overslept, and likely not done any preparations.
“I’ll get the cab to drop by your place and then send us to Aeri’s place alright? Help her out a little.” Yi Zhuo texted, to which Jimin agreed. After dressing up, Jimin let out a short sigh, before getting a surgery mask, covering her face up.
“Hey!” Yi Zhuo enthusiastically greeted you and Minjeong before climbing into the limousine, followed closely by Aeri and Jimin. Jimin noticed you frown, probably having noticed the mask. This was supposed to be a night full of pictures afterall.
“Sorry about being late, someone was up too late reading Fanfiction.” Jimin jokingly said, throwing a playful glance at Aeri who raised her hand in defence.
“Let me guess, there was a meet cute in college, and after some drama, one misunderstanding, maybe a love triangle, maybe even parents disapproval, the two leads finally get together and share a kiss to cap the story. Did I miss anything?” Minjeong playfully asked, Jimin and Yi Zhuo suppressing a chuckle as Aeri’s head lowered a little in embarrassment.
“Listen, it’s cute alright? It may be cliche, but it's nice to think about. That one day, at the end of the rainbow, there’ll be someone who truly gets you, loves and accepts you for who you are.” Aeri began to retort, causing you to raise an eyebrow.
“That’s for the main characters only though…” You muttered, to which Aeri tilted her head in confusion.
“These kind of happy endings aren’t for everyone, those are reserved for main characters only isn’t it?” You questioned, maybe a little too passionately as all eyes in the limousine turned to you. You could even see the driver’s eyebrow raise in the rear view mirror.
“That might be true, but everyone’s a main character, be it in their own story or someone else’s.” Aeri replied, sharing a little glance with Yi Zhuo, Minjeong and Jimin.
‘Them too, huh…’ Jimin mused, her light amusement at the situation snuffed out by the rather depressing thought that both of you had resigned yourselves to being background characters, extras there to fill in the screen.
Wanting to lighten the mood, Jimin immediately spoke up
“You’re a main character in my Story Y/N. All of you are. So don’t lose hope alright? I’m sure you’ll get together with the one right for you soon. Also, it’s prom, lighten up!” Jimin said as she jokingly punched you in the shoulder.
At that moment, Jimin was glad she was wearing a mask, it helped alleviate a little embarrassment at that moment
Once the group had gotten to the hotel where the grad night was being held, Aeri, Yi Zhuo and Minjeong had all mostly scattered, looking for their friends for some quick pictures. Jimin would have, she wasn’t the socialising type, but someone of her reputation had to have friends that she would look for to go take pictures with. Normally, a small pimple wouldn’t stop her from taking pictures, her masked face would just be a point of intrigue, but any desire to socialise faded to dust as two people walked into the hotel, adorned in blue and yellow ballgowns, Hwang Yeji, and Shin Ryujin. It was weird, just the sight of the two was enough to cause Jimin to shrink behind you, which of course drew a confused look from you.
Jimin hadn’t done anything wrong, she knew as much too. Ryujin was the one who was unfaithful, the blame rests squarely on her shoulders, so why did the mere sight of them cause Jimin to fold into herself, unable to look at anyone. It wasn’t her fault right? It couldn’t be. Or was she just a jealous ex trying to break up a happy couple, all because she couldn’t be happy. No, this couldn’t be…thi-
“Hey Ji, let’s get a picture together.” You said with that goofy smile, that Jimin couldn’t help smile at. But a small bit of her still worried. She didn’t want to tell you about Ryujin though. It would be worse to seem so damn weak.
“Umm, I have a pimple, do you mind if I take the picture with my mask on?” Jimin whispered
“You’ll look amazing Jimin, it’s you, you’re always stunning. Anyways, I’m sure it’s not even that big anyways.” You reassured her, causing her to nod, letting you take the mask off her.
“See, pretty as always.” You smiled, causing a smile to spread across Jimin’s face as she kept her mask in her bag. It was impressive the speed at which you could make Jimin’s heart pump just with a few words.
Turning to Sakura, Jimin looked at you confusedly, unsure why you had suddenly pulled away, looking at Sakura as you both shared a confused shrug
“Why so awkward Y/N, come on!” Jimin said, quickly wrapping her hand around your waist then pulling you closer to her, her other hand guiding you hand over her shoulder.
“I swear you’ve never taken one of these pictures.” Jimin playfully jabbed, to which you wordlessly nodded.
After Sakura had given you the thumbs up, you quickly slinked away, causing Jimin to slightly regret, had she been too touchy, pulling you towards her like that. Maybe she made you uncomfortable?
Just then, as the other girls had come back, the ushers had announced that doors were open, and Jimin found herself whisked to the banquet tables by Yi Zhuo, who began showing Jimin some reels, thankfully taking Jimin’s mind of what had previously transpired
Sitting at the banquet tables, the group sat about, consuming fine dining that was not exactly worth the price tag, but that’s grad night for you. With the student council’s organised performances, many laughs were shared, applauses given, smuggled in whisky shared, though the group made it a point to drink in moderation, much to Jimin’s delight. As the evening drew to a close, the event photographer made her way to your group’s table, signalling for you to huddle together.
As the 5 of you huddle together, Jimin noticed Aeri whispering to you, causing Jimin to look at her in confusion, though she quickly felt a force pushing her forward, which quickly wiped any confusion from her mind, replacing it instead with panic.
Quickly though, Jimin felt a hand holding her up, stopping her from falling, though it had the rather unfortunate effect where Jimin stayed there, you and Jimin staring into each other’s eyes, Jimin’s heart palpitation speeding up as she pondered the look you shot her. Was it affection? Was it concern? Jimin couldn’t be sure, still working on slowing her rapidly beating heart.
This time, it was Aeri who had pulled Jimin along, pulling her onto the limousine that was scheduled to send them back.
“What’s the route by the way?” Jimin asked Aeri.
“Oh, it’s Minjeong’s place first, then Yi Zhuo, it’s my place, Y/N’s, then yours. You two lovebirds get the limo together.” Aeri teased, which caused Jimin to lightly blush, but just as luck would have it, just before the door was shut, she was greeted by the sight of Yeji and Ryujin in a rather public show of affection. It was probably good that Jimin wasn’t going to be in a relationship. Just the sight of Ryujin had reminded her of that truth.
Following Jimin’s eyeline, Aeri quickly shut the door, a playful shrug when Jimin quickly turned to look at her.
When you and Minjeong had finally gotten up on to the limousine, the ride back was a rather uneventful one, mostly just joking around, and talking about what had happened during grad night.
One by one, however, the other girls left, first Minjeong, then Yi Zhuo, finally Aeri, who after a quick whisper to you, got off from the limousine. You and Jimin made small talk, something you both enjoyed, making the rather long ride feel like just another one of your hang out sessions waiting for the other 3 girls after tutoring sessions. This was what made time with you so precious to Jimin. It was the greatest way to just unwind. Jimin could talk about her internship, you could talk about possibly beginning to write, simple stuff like that could fill conversations for hours.
"Hey, Jimin. Do you think we'll hang out in the future?" You asked, Jimin looking to you in confusion, though she found it hard not to let out a small giggle, you looked like you had sucked a lemon. Besides, this was a rather preposterous question.
"Of course, Aeri's been thinking of getting us to get together to play badminton, and, we’re all in the group chat, we can organise meetups anytime, so yeh, I'm sure we'll hang out in the future." Replied Jimin, a little confused at the question.
"No, I mean, me and you." You replied resolutely, nerves gripping you even tighter.
"Hmm?" Jimin hummed in curiosity, though she felt her chest grow heavy, as if knowing what your next words were going to be
"What I'm saying is, do you want to grab dinner together some time soon?" You blurted out.
Those words sent the bricks tumbling down, as Jimin sat in her seat, stunned as she looked at you. In hindsight, she would have handled it better, but in the spur of the moment, Jimin's smile dropped a little, turning to an awkward smile.
"Oh my g-, Y/N. I'm sorry, but I'm not interested. It's not you, bu-" Jimin replied, feeling her chest sink heavier with each word.
Not wanting her to continue, you quickly cut her off, "Don't worry about it, it was a stupid question, and I knew what was going to happen anyways. I just didn't want to look back on tonight and regret not asking. "
Jimin smiled at you apologetically, trying to hide her grimace as the weight in her chest grew heavier, then heavier still.
"Let's just pretend this didn't happen alright? I don't want things to be awkward with the rest of the girls." Jimin asked. Why did she say that? Was she trying to make things worse?
As Jimin saw your house around the corner, she noticed you hurriedly packed your belongings.
"Take care of yourself alright?" You quickly muttered under your breath, turning to the front to thank the limousine driver, then getting out of the taxi.
Jimin could only muster a soft mutter of a goodbye, the weight in her chest finally fully sinking as the limousine slowly drove away, and you didn’t even turn.
Jimin’s arms quickly wrapped around herself, her tears uncontrollably flowing as she leaned on the door, her tears staining her dress like blood on the grass.
“That wasn’t pretty.” The limousine driver commented, a sympathetic smile on his face as he handed Jimin tissue to wipe her tears.
“I really fucked it up didn’t I?” Jimin muttered through her sobs, to which the limousine driver shrugged.
“I’ve driven the 5 of you so many places, I’ll be honest, the two of you were obvious, I was kind of rooting for the two of you. Sad it has to be this way though. It’s obvious you have feelings for that poor kid anyways” The driver commented as he continued driving
“We can’t be together.” Jimin muttered with a fist clenched
“Whatever you say Miss.” The limousine driver said with a sigh.
Jimin had feelings for you, that much she couldn’t deny. But you were a great person. You deserve someone who loves you. Someone good, someone kind, someone who could make you the main character of the story. Jimin was far from that. She wasn’t worthy of her parents' love, she wasn’t worthy of the grades she got, she wasn’t worthy of Ryujin, she wasn’t worthy of her team or her accolades, she wasn’t worthy of love, and she sure as hell wasn’t worthy enough for herself. And if she wasn't worthy enough for herself, how could she be worthy enough of love? Or of you?
She wasn’t the main character, she wasn’t worthy of it. She’d never be worthy of it

Mina x Reader: When Death comes knocking
Permanent Taglist: @cwpiqwon @justme-idle
A/N: First of three Misamo fics
“Thanks again. You’re a lifesaver.” Your coworker thanks you profusely through the phone
“No problem, just send the files over, I’ll take a look at it. Quicker we solve this case, the quicker those pensioners get their money back. Alright, I’ll see you in the office tomorrow.” You reply through the phone, phone wedged between your head and shoulder as you search through your cabinet, searching for sustenance for what you were sure was going to be a long night. Standing at your kitchen island, you yawn as you open the tea bag, a cup of hot water in your hand. As you walk to your table, the low hum of your computer the only sound disturbing an otherwise peaceful night, you hear the doorbell ring. That’s odd, you mused, it was late. Who could be here? Throwing a sweater on as you walked, you stepped to the door, opening it while rubbing your eye. At the door, stood a slender figure, body covered by a long black robe, a scythe in one hand, and a scroll in the other. A scroll with your name on it. “Good Evening, I’m here to collect your soul.” The black clad figure said. “Oh, honey, it’s late, why don’t you come in for a cup of tea? Everything else can wait.” You beckoned her into the room, much to the confusion of the figure at the door. “Please do come in and close the door behind you, if you would, it gets windy at night, and it’s a tad chilly.” You say, walking back to the drawer, taking another tea bag. The figure stood confused, but she nodded, stepping in, closing the door behind her as her scythe shrunk to the size of a hair, picking it and putting it into her ear. “Please, sit. Is there anything else I can get you?” You asked, setting the cup down before her, bundling up the documents on your table and setting them aside. “You’re not afraid?” The figure asked, looking at you in confusion. “What do I call you? Calling you Grim Reaper seems a little lengthy, Thanatos is, well, it’s not the simplest either.” “Mina.” She said, slowly reaching for the cup, still trying to figure out what you were doing. Was this some kind of trick, to stall her long enough for you to make a worthless attempt at running, or some attempted drugging of a non-corporeal form that just amounted to a sad waste of drugs. Mina had seen it all, collecting souls for so long, some people did think themselves able to elude death. “Well, Hollywood likes to vilify you, that you are the personification of death, and that you want to drag souls to the afterlife, kicking and screaming. But you’re just doing your job. Ferrying us into the next plane, soothing us along the ride.” You say, leaning back on the couch, sipping your tea. Mina was stunned, to say the least. She had seen every reaction to her arrival. Fear, Anger, Desperation, Bargaining, Denial, Delusion, Acceptance even. But no one really understood her. “That’s a new one.” Mina commented, a light chuckle. “Perhaps. I see a lot in the world, so I have a rather unique view on the world, if I could say so myself.” You say, running a hand through your hair with a sigh. “Besides, I can’t imagine it’s easy for you. Sure, taking the souls of the bad people, probably pretty satisfying. But the souls of the innocent, those undeserving of death. Watching them cry and beg for their lives. It can’t be easy.” You asked, Mina’s gaze softening as moments from her infinite life flashed before her. “It isn’t all bad. It’s not always a good experience, seeing good people go, but I consider it an honour, to ferry their souls to the afterlife, to find peace.”
“Do you have a favourite story? You’ve reaped the souls of every person who has ever passed, I’m sure some have stood out to you.” You asked, seeing Mina look confused. “You’re an interesting one.” Mina with a small smile, though you could see the confusion hidden within “There was this lady, most who knew her called her Kam, and she had a wife, Jimin. They were good people. Jimin was the daughter of a successful businessman. When they inherited the business, they used their financial freedom to help those in need. They funded orphanages, organised several non-profits. They were good people. Her wife passed away several years ago. I took her on a quiet evening, when the two had gone camping. After the initial shock wore off, all Jimin wanted was 5 minutes. She woke Kam up, speaking her last words to her. A reassurance of love, last pleas to take care of herself. Before Jimin left, she had set Kam down, making her think it was a dream. So, years later, when I came to collect Kam’s soul, she seemed unsurprised. She spoke of that night. She asked if it really was a dream, or did Jimin really speak to her before she died. It was a heartwarming sight. To know that two people could love each other so much, that they feared the other being lonely more than they feared death.” “Love must be a foreign thing for you, huh? I mean no offence by that of course, just that, I assume being the Grim Reaper doesn’t leave much time for love.” You say softly. Mina shoots you back a small smile. It was nice to be understood. “Well, I’ve wasted enough of your time, we probably need to get going soon?” You warily ask, feeling your heart thumping against your chest, fighting to escape. “We have some time. Can I ask you some questions?” Mina asked with a smile. “Of course. Before that though, do you mind if we go somewhere else? Outside maybe? I heard the stars are showing tonight, it’s supposed to be beautiful.” You say with a smile, moving from your seat, refilling Mina’s cup before walking out to the small patch of grass in front of your home. Mina looked on in confusion, but mostly amusement. The path she was set on was a lonely one. This was fun. “Come!” You pull Mina out from her thoughts, seeing you lying on the ground, excitedly patting the ground next to you. “That’s a whole lot of mud.” Mina said, looking down at the mud in apprehension. “So to escape death, all I have to do is hide in a puddle of mud? Come on, Miss Supernatural being, have a little fun!” You said, chuckling as you slammed your hand down onto the mud, causing it to splatter onto Mina. “Did you just splash mud on the Grim Reaper?” Mina asked, and anyone just listening to this conversation would have nailed you for dead, but you saw her gummy smile, and the playful glint in her eyes. Mina’s fingers plucked the hair from her ear, blowing on it as it grew into her scythe, then using the end of her scythe, began hurling mud at you with a chuckle. “Hey! No fair!” You shout out in the middle of your laughing fit as you tried to block the mud with your hands. “I yield! I yield!” You shout out, panting, chuckling as Mina put her hands up, the scythe shrinking back. Taking a hose to the side of your yard, you cleaned yourself up a little, face and hair primarily, before going back to lay down with Mina. “The stars are beautiful tonight, aren’t they?” You whisper with a smile on your face. “They are.” Mina replies with a smile, though her eyes fell short of the stars, instead falling onto your side profile, which gazed in wonder at the stars.
“Have you ever thought about how the stars we see right now, the ones that shine so bright and illuminate the night sky, really aren’t there anymore?” You said with a forlorn smile. Mina hums in agreement, though her focus laid more in the stars she found in your eyes. “It’s beautiful, isn’t it. The thought that even after you die, as long as you shone during your lifetime, you’d leave behind something for people to remind you of, no matter how big or small the star. A reminder that they were here, and they mattered.” “That’s a unique way to think about it. That’s the first I’ve heard of it at least. Most astronomers beg for their life, or try to square up with the scythe wielding hooded figure. They’re smart, but their fight-or-flight response needed work.” Mina joked, a smile on her face as you began to chuckle in tandem.
“It is a hopeful way of seeing the stars though. Most of the people I talk to, usually are more concerned with what happens after their light fades.” Mina said with a sigh
“That’s just the thing though, I don’t think the stars care about whether anyone depends on their light, or what happens after they die. They just burn as bright as they can while they’re here, and after they’re gone, their light stays with us, a reminder, a declaration. I was here, and my legacy will far outlive me. It’s a nice thought. That things don’t end when we think they do.” “You talk of endings like you’re not afraid of them. It’s admirable.” Mina said, her tone a mix of admiration and sadness. It would be a shame once she brought you to the end. “You understand that I invited the Grim Reaper into my house and offered her tea?” You joked, Mina giggling in response. “Touche.” “Okay, I’m not, not afraid, but I just…mortality is a tough thing to really grasp. I can understand that death comes for everyone, but I still don’t want it to come for me.” You lament, a drop in your cheery facade that took Mina by surprise.“I’m glad it’s with you though. Thank you.” You whisper, Mina shooting you back a comforting smile. Just then, rain began pouring down, pelting both you and Mina. “Let’s head inside shall we?” Mina said, extending her hand with a theatrical bow, a move that shocked even her. She wasn’t one for, well, one for any of this. It confused her, but at the moment, all she really cared about was your hand looped around her arm, walking into the house like an old couple. In the house, you took a towel, wiping yourself down, then changing into a new clean set of clothes. Emerging from the toilet, you saw Mina standing at the door, teacup in hand, staring out the window, clearly deep in thought. A little part of you knew, it was time. With a final gulp, Mina set the cup down onto the cup, draping her hood over her head, scythe in hand. “Thank you for the Tea.” Mina said, walking to the door. With a deep breath, you followed behind her, only to be stopped. “For our next meeting, I’d like Chamomile, if you’d please.”

Winter X Reader: Let Go
Permanent Taglist: @cwpiqwon @justme-idle
Minjeong’s eyes fluttered open, eyes wincing at the bright glare of the sun, reaching a hand out to shut the curtain. “Morning, love,” You murmured, stretching before pulling Minjeong closer.
Minjeong yelped in excitement and shock as she found herself nestled within your arms. She pouted, scrunching her nose and playfully punching you in the chest. Holding Minjeong closer, she looked up at you as she saw your smile widen “Jeongie, how would you like to spend the morning doing the productive act of absolutely nothing.” “You know me too well.” Minjeong replies with a soft giggle. You both stayed nestled in bed, your arms wrapped around each other. Minjeong ran her fingers through your hair, causing you to hum in content, leaning deeper into her embrace. “I could hold you forever.” Minjeong whispered, slowly running her other hand up and down your back. “I wish you could too Jeongie, but y’know, life gets in the way sometimes.” You say, shrugging your shoulders, causing Minjeong to frown, this being a rather depressing point that pulled her out of this comfort and joy she had fallen into. Nothing a quick peck couldn’t solve though, as you wriggled your own body up a little, leaving a short peck on Minjeong’s forehead that reduced her to a blushing mess, looking away from you in embarrassment
“Remember those Saturdays we spent having breakfast in bed?” You asked, your tone light with nostalgia. Minjeong’s eyes filled with joy.“Of course, back when we first got married. We would compete to wake up earlier to make breakfast for each other.” “Remember that time you made me some soup in the morning, then y-” You tried playfully jabbing at Minjeong, though she quickly sat up, nostrils flared as she immediately knew what you were about to say. “Hey! It was dark, and there was so much stuff on the floor, and I was so excited, and, and…” Minjeong said, clearly indignant at having to explain herself for the umteenth time. You chuckled, quickly pecking her on the lip.. “Sounds like excuses to me, my love.” You tease, using your hand to ruffle her hair. “You’re lucky I love you. Might I remind you that that soup was made with so much love and you laughed when I dropped it.” “Well, I couldn’t exactly taste the love, especially when it was spilled all over the floor.” You tease, causing Minjeong to shoot you a death glare. “Let me remind you that we do not have a prenuptial.” Minjeong deadpanned, causing you to burst into laughter, wrapping your arms around her as you pulled her down onto the bed once again. “I’m serious.” Minjeong said, her frown intensifying as your laugh grew even still. “Like you’d ever leave me Jeongie. Even Yi Zhuo knows you’re whipped.” You tease, causing a light blush to form over Minjeong’s face “Oh, shut it. Well, I do miss when we had time to have breakfast in bed. Days like these are a luxury we can’t really afford anymore.” Minjeong sighs, her shoulders deflating. “Yeah, well, life changes, we just have to roll with the blows. We keep what we can, but for those things we can’t keep? We just gotta let go. You get what I’m saying Jeongie?” You whispered, causing Minjeong’s eyebrow to furrow
“Sometimes.” Minjeong mutters, her mood clearly taking a downturn “We need to let go of things that we can’t have anymore Minjeong, only then can we open ourselves to new experiences, open ourselves to new people, new memories. No point clinging to what’s gone and dead, Jeongie.” You whisper, though Minjeong quickly shrugs you off. “Hey babe, did you see the new offer at the mall nearby? I was thinking of replacing the chairs we have in our dining table.” Minjeong mentions, her hands now with a steeled vice grip around your arms. You sigh. “Yeh, maybe, we need to spend some time doing some remodelling outside. We don’t really need all that stuff now.” You say, causing Minjeong to look at you in confusion. “I never knew you to be a minimalist. Weren’t you the one who said we had to deck the halls with what I can only describe a vomit of colour.” Minjeong jokes, trying to bring back the light hearted atmosphere that had been sucked out of the room so quickly she was almost out of breath. “You know that’s not what I meant, Jeongie.” You say with a sigh. “I really don’t, love.” Minjeong said to you in confusion. “It’s been 3 weeks, Jeongie.” You sigh, holding her hands in yours. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Minjeong spits back, now slightly agitated, clearly wanting to avoid this subject. “Minjeong. You haven’t left the house in 3 weeks. You spend your days crying, you barely eat, you barely drink, when’s the last time you left your bed?” You challenge her, your agitation masking a rising concern and fear threatening to burst from your chest. “I can’t do it baby. Please don’t make me do it.” Minjeong whispered, tears leaking from her eyes. “I know it’s scary, baby, but please, you can’t stay this way. You have to do it, no matter how much it hurts.” You whisper into her ear “There are days I can’t even get myself to move, you know? I just lay in bed, and that scene flashes before my eyes, while I lay there, powerless to do anything. I try to scream, I try to move, but I can’t. I just lay there, watching that scene over and over again.” Minjeong laments, her initial sniffles now turned to outright bawling. “I know, Jeongie. Believe me, if I could take away all your pain, replace it with joy, or happiness, or laughter, I would. But I can’t do that. Only you can. The journey will be hard, but you have to do this, Jeongie. Please, it hurts me to see you like this. Let go.” You whisper. Minjeong, now overrun with emotion, shuts her eyes as tightly as she can, fist clenched so tight her knuckles turn white. As she opens her eyes once again, she finds her bed empty. Minjeong let out a throaty chuckle, full of bitterness, rage, anger, sadness, and everything in between. She curls into a fetal position, shaking and shivering as she holds onto your sweater, the last trace of you she had, the material being soaked with tears.
She looked to your cold and empty side of the bed, the same way it had been for 3 weeks. Cold and empty. Minjeong found that an apt descriptor for her heart now. Let go? How could she let go of the only thing that ever mattered to her?

Sana x Reader: Under the moonlight
Permanent Taglist: @cwpiqwon @justme-idle
A/N: Second of the Misamo fics
“My Lady, you must hurry. The other generals are growing impatient.”
Sana did not turn to face the urgency in her squire’s voice. Instead, she remained kneeling before the child, a small figure with wide eyes that shone like polished stones.
“Is there anything else you need?” she asked, her gentle smile a balm against the harshness of the world outside.
“I want to go home,” the child whispered, his voice scarcely louder than the flutter of a sparrow's wings.
“Will you beat the bad people?” The question hung in the air, filled with hope and fear, as the child’s gaze searched hers for reassurance.
“Of course, I’ll end this. Then we can all go home, okay?” With a scrunched nose, she patted the child’s head, feeling the weight of his dreams resting on her shoulders.
Standing, she placed her left hand on her saya, a soft sigh escaping her lips as she shook her head, the burden of command ever-present. Her squire, a silent shadow, followed closely behind her.
As she parted the cloth that served as the door to the Commander’s tent, Sana stepped into the flickering light, her playful smile contrasting sharply with the grim atmosphere.
“Ah, all of this for little ol' me? How generous of you all,” she quipped, taking her seat at the table, her voice laced with mischief.
“This is no joking matter, Lady Minatozaki,” Lady Miyawaki interjected, her tone sharp as the steel sheathed at her side. “We are at war, and you still treat this like a game.”
“I understand that, Lady Miyawaki,” Sana replied, her tone unfaltering as she twirled her fan with an elegant flourish. “I merely sought to lighten the mood. It is dreadful to sit through another meeting where we all frown and dance in circles of hypotheticals and possibilities.”
Just as the tension threatened to ignite into an argument, the figure at the head of the table—a woman clad in the regalia of a queen—slammed her hand down upon the oak, the sound echoing through the tent like thunder.
“Sana, play nice,” Mina commanded, her voice low and fierce, a tempest contained within a fragile shell.
“As you command, my queen,” Sana replied, dropping into an exaggerated bow, a smile dancing on her lips as she met Mina's stormy gaze.
“Oh lord, that was dreary.” Sana groaned as she stretched, walking out of the tent. “Pod?” Sana called out, her squire approaching. “Bring this back to my tent, I’m going to take a short walk to clear my mind.” Sana said with a smile, handing her katana to him. “As you wish.” He said with a bow, turning to head to her tent. With her fans in her hand, she lightly fanned herself as she roamed the camp, soon settling on a leisure prowl around the camp’s borders. As she strolled, her eye twitched, noticing movement in the forest, like a light gust of wind, or a spectre in the night. “You there, the one in the dark. Step out, let us share a cup of tea, and have a nice conversation.” Sana spoke, though her grip tightened about her fan. “Leave, we don’t want to hurt anyone, we’ll just take what we need and leave.” Your gravelly voice emerged from the foliage. “Well, that’s unfortunate, I was looking forward to making new friends. So many stuffy generals around here. Anyways, it's unfortunate to tell you but our resources are scarce, and they’re needed by every single one of our people, so I’m going to have to ask you to leave.” Sana sighed, her fan opening with a flourish. “I’m giving you one last chance to leave. We outnumber you, you’re alone, and unarmed.” Sana smirked, a light tilt of her wrist allowing the moon light to reflect off the metallic ridges of her fan. “It’s called a tessen, honey, it’s my favourite.” Sana smiled. “And, well, I’m not sure how you think this is going to go down. Sure, there may be, hmm, let’s see, about 10 of you, but I guarantee you, none of you could take me. You’d eventually kill me of course, but at the cost of how many of you? By then, I’d have attracted enough attention, and the soldiers will be here before any of you even have a chance to steal a bag of seeds.” Sana bemused, her smile still bright as she slowly fanned herself “Maybe, but my men are desperate.” “I understand that, and I feel for you, but I can’t let you just waltz into my camp, and take what we have, so please, this is the last chance, leave.” Silence filled the air, before Sana heard some light shuffling, before the presence left. A sigh escaping Sana’s lips, she closed her fan, walking back to camp. “Who was that? Were those monsters? Or bad guys?” Sana heard the same child from earlier run up to her, clearly having seen the potential intruders. “No, No, no monsters, no bad guys, just some poor scared and desperate people.”
“Hey, Cap.” One of your men approached you, a grim look “How are they?” You asked with a sigh. “Hanging in there, they…we trust you, but morale isn’t looking good.” “I’m sorry, Fran, I’ll think of something alright? Get the fellas to hit the hay, we’ll go out and check our traps tomorrow, in the meantime, I’ll try to think of something.”
The fire was guttering out, snapping weakly at the night. Smoke drifted in lazy spirals, too thin to hide the cold. You squatted close to the embers, rolling the tension out of your shoulders while the rope claws coiled around your arms like a second skin. The hunger sat heavy in your gut, clawing up through your bones, but you pushed it down. No time for that. Your men were worse off. “Morale doesn't look great.” Fran had said. No shit. Starving men and hope didn’t live long together. This was almost an invitation for mutinous thoughts.
You flexed your hands, letting the claws rattle against your wrists. The ropes felt heavier tonight. Everything did. You needed food. Fast. Something. Anything
Then, a voice drifted through the darkness, cool and smooth like a katana from a Saya
“It’s a shame you hid in the darkness earlier. Should have let me see that gorgeous face of yours.” “Is this where you hide?” she called, her playful tone cutting through the night air. With a flick of her wrist, she snapped open one of her tessens, the steel glinting in the firelight .She stepped into the firelight with that easy, loping grace, her smile sharp and knowing. “Not much of a welcoming committee, Captain.” Her dark eyes glittered as she tilted her head. “Miss me?”
You narrowed your eyes, silence filling the space between you. Without warning, you lashed out with your right claw, the rope darting toward her.
“My men were hungry! I had no choice!” You shouted out as you sent your claws at her
But she was quick—deflecting the strike with her fan and sending it careening harmlessly aside. “Almost had me!” she teased, effortlessly twisting away.
You advanced, launching both claws in rapid succession—one aimed high, the other low. Sana danced between your strikes, her fans cutting through the air and redirecting each attack with ease. She was agile, a shadow among the trees, but you were relentless.
With a flick of your wrists, you pulled the ropes taut and swung one claw toward her midsection, aiming to catch her off guard. She sidestepped just in time, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “Getting warmer!”
You followed up with a quick thrust of the other claw, but she ducked low, her fan slicing toward your legs. You jumped back, barely avoiding the blade.
“Come on, precious, have some fun!” she winked, spinning gracefully to avoid your reach. You stayed silent, a continuous rampage forward, wild slashes in an attempt to close the gap, but Sana remained tantalisingly out of reach, every parry, block, counter, all one fluid motion that moved like a tsunami “You’re no fun.” Sana pouted, jumping up onto a tree branch, lazily perching as one of her legs dangled lazily. “Not to worry, I’ll have the fun handled, don’t worry so much.” Sana winked, blowing you a kiss before leaping down from the tree with all the grace of a dancer, like a droplet of water sliding off a leaf.
With a surge of determination, you lunged, slashing with both claws in a high-low attack. She leapt back, her fans fanning out as she deflected one of your strikes, redirecting it with effortless grace, the sparks from the clash of the metals flashing between them.
As you pressed forward, you pulled the ropes tight, swinging one claw around to pin her down. But she was already moving, her laughter mingling with the night air. “You really need to think outside the box, my lovely!”
You narrowed your eyes, feigning a right jab with your claw before quickly spinning and thrusting the left one forward. This time, she wasn’t quick enough—her fan collided with the claw, but the force sent her off balance.
Seizing the opportunity, you closed in, aiming for her midsection. But she pivoted, using the momentum to flip back onto a low branch. “Nice try, but you’ll have to be quicker!” she called, balancing effortlessly as she taunted you.
You felt frustration simmering beneath the surface but also something else—intrigue. “Enough games!” you growled, shaking off the distraction.
With a sudden burst of energy, you propelled yourself off the ground, using the claws to launch yourself higher. The rope coils unravelled in the air as you aimed for her again. But she was ready, springing from the branch and darting between trees like a whisper.
You didn’t waste a second. A claw shot from your arm, the rope hissing through the air—but Sana twirled aside, the fan snapping back open to knock it off course. “Ooh, feisty!” she teased, blowing you a kiss. “You really do know how to make a girl feel special huh?” You swung both claws at her, a flurry of strikes, but she ducked and weaved with astonishing agility. “You really should work on your reflexes, handsome!” she teased, her laughter ringing out as she dodged your blows.
The fight escalated, the air thick with the sound of steel clashing against steel, punctuated by Sana’s playful taunts. With a sudden feint, she kicked off the ground, launching herself over you, using the momentum to throw dirt and ashes from the campfire toward your face.
You instinctively shielded your eyes, heart pounding. “You think that’ll stop me?” you shouted, wiping your face clear.
But when you looked up, she was already perched on a high branch, watching you with a mischievous grin. “A little smoke never hurt anyone! But if you’re feeling hurt, I can give you a kiss to make it all better?”
Determined to keep the momentum, you shifted your stance and thrust both claws up at her, trying to pull her down. But she leapt higher, flipping gracefully into the air, landing on another branch just out of reach.
With a flick of your wrist, you sent one claw darting toward her, the rope shooting out like a whip. But she caught it with her fan, using it to swing down and spin around, landing just behind you.
“You’re getting a little predictable, I was hoping you’d show me a good time, make me sweat a little, but I see I overestimated you” she said, her voice low and teasing.
You turned quickly, swinging your claws wide in an attempt to corner her. But she dodged, rolling to the side, then sprang up, tossing one fan at you with deadly accuracy.
You barely caught the blade with your claw, redirecting it, but that split second allowed her to dart in close, catching you off guard. Her second fan sliced toward your ribs, grazing your side.
“Nice moves!” she exclaimed, her eyes shining with excitement. “But I’m not done yet!”
You thrust both claws in a crisscross, but she slid to your blind spot with a playful chuckle. “So serious! Relax a little.” She winked, tossing her other fan up mid-spin before catching it perfectly. “We’re just having fun.”
But in that moment of chaos, with a flourish, you used the rope claws to swing from a low branch, catching a glimpse of her silhouette among the trees. With a flick of your wrist, you sent the claws out again, targeting the branches around her, sending them crashing down around her
As she dodged and weaved, you pressed the advantage, closing the distance.
But Sana was quick—she kicked off a nearby tree, flipping over the barrier and landing gracefully beside you. “Nice try, but you’ll have to be faster than that! Besides, trapping me? A little desperate to spend some time with me aren't you? Not that I mind, of course.”
Determined to finish this, you surged forward, claws slicing through the air. She danced around your strikes, moving with an ease that made it seem like she was born for this.
Finally, after a series of rapid exchanges, you found an opening—her foot caught on a low branch as she tried to dodge. With a swift motion, you lunged, aiming for her waist.
“Got you!” you exclaimed, feeling the thrill of victory. But just as your claws came within inches, she twisted away, using your own momentum against you and flipping back onto another branch.
“Almost,” she laughed, her voice echoing through the trees. “You’re getting better!”
With each move, you felt the tension building, both of you pushing your limits. Finally, in a desperate bid, you sent one claw spiralling toward her, the rope coiling to pin her down. She sidestepped, but you were already retracting, bringing the second claw to bear.
She laughed, her eyes gleaming. “This was fun, gorgeous! But I think I’ll leave you to think about what’s next.”
With a sudden burst of speed, she disappeared into the shadows, leaving you standing among the trees, breathless.
“Tomorrow night,” her voice rang out, teasing and light. “In the woods about 5 clicks north. I have a proposition, you’ll want to be there.”
The forest clearing was quiet, save for the crackling fire and the rustle of night leaves. You stood opposite Sana, her dark eyes glinting in the firelight, a playful smile tugging at her lips. Twin tessens rested in her hands, folded shut but ready. They looked delicate—fans for a dancer—but you knew better. Her sweet smile hid the razor sharp edge of her fans. "Glad to see you sweetheart. No doubt you came in pursuit of my endless charm and beauty?” Sana teased, her voice almost a purr
You ignored her, but the grin she gave in response told you she enjoyed the silence. Then the forest shifted—the sickening squelch of boots on mud. You snapped your gaze to the tree line just as figures stepped from the shadows, their armour catching the moonlight. Thirty soldiers spread out in a wide arc, swords, spears, and even the errant axe gleaming in their hands. They moved with precision, circling you both with the confidence of men who assumed they’d already won. But assumption was the mother of all failures.
You tensed, claws uncoiling from your forearms with a metallic hiss. The ropes writhed like serpents at your sides, ready to lash out. “Your men?” you growled, not looking at her.
Sana chuckled, unfazed by the threat. She flicked a fan open with a lazy snap, the steel ribs catching the light. "Please. If I sent thirty men after you, they’d come with wine and roses." Her voice dipped into a playful murmur. "Unless you prefer it a little rougher?”
"Focus."
“Oh please, you’re such a buzzkill,” she teased. “I promise I don’t bite, unless you want me to, of course.”
Her laugh was soft, teasing, as if the two of you weren’t already surrounded by blades. “These are soldiers from the eastern kingdom.” She shifted closer to you, her breath warm against your neck. “I’ve been a pain in their asses for a while. Maybe after this fight, you can be a pain in mine. Though I suspect I’d enjoy myself quite a bit.” Before you could respond, a spear thrust toward you. Your claw shot out in a blur, rope whipping through the air to catch the shaft mid-thrust. A hard yank pulled the soldier off balance, and as he stumbled forward, Sana twirled into his path, her fan dancing across his throat. Blood spurted like a rainbow, the rainbow after the hurricane.
“One down! If this keeps up, I might just have to reward you with a little extra fun later, I don’t see a need to walk tomorrow anyways”
Two more soldiers charged in, swords raised. You lashed your rope claws forward, the talons catching both men by the arms. A sharp twist, and their weapons clattered to the ground. Sana darted in, a whirlwind of steel and silk, cutting one man down with a flick of her fan and sending the other crumpling with a sharp jab to his temple, seeming almost a primordial force
"Nice teamwork," she called, blowing you a kiss mid-spin. “You make me look good, our kids will be smart and beautiful. We’re calling the first girl Cheryl by the way.”
You rolled your eyes, but you felt a smile tugging at your side.
One of the soldiers lunged at you. Your claw shot out, the rope uncoiling and wrapping around the man’s sword arm. A hard pull yanked him off his feet, and as he crashed to the ground, Sana danced through, her fan gliding across his throat. She tossed you a grin over her shoulder.
“My my, has anyone told you how hot you look when you’re fighting?”
You lashed out with your other claw, sweeping a wide arc that forced three men to jump back. Sana flowed into the opening you created, her fans snapping open like the wings of a hawk. One slashed across a soldier’s face; the other folded shut and cracked against another’s jaw.
“This feels like a date honey, though I insist you ask my parents first,” she said with a sly grin, ducking under your arm as another attacker swung for her head, the razor edge of her tessen making quick work of the attacker’s neck. "Careful, though—if you keep saving me like this, I might start thinking you like me."
"You wish," you muttered, spinning both claws in a deadly blur to create space.
Sana laughed as she deflected a spear thrust, the metal blade sliding off her fan. “Oh, I don’t have to wish. I know you do honey.”
The soldiers pressed in tighter, more cautious now. Despite your technical superiority, the sheer number of attackers was beginning to overwhelm you both. You whipped a claw at a man with a sword, but another rushed in on Sana’s flank. She caught the movement, snapping her fan shut and slamming it into the side of his head with a bone-cracking thud.
“Close one.” She shot you a playful glance. “Don’t tell me you’d miss me if I got hurt.”
"Stay focused," you muttered, twisting your claw free from an attacker’s armor. But she just grinned wider, clearly enjoying herself too much.
"You are worried about me, how sweet." she teased, flipping one fan shut and blowing you a kiss mid-fight.
The relentless assault gave you little time to reply. You spun your rope claws in wide arcs, forcing the soldiers to step back. But their numbers began to tell—they pressed in from all sides, trying to split the two of you apart.
“Sweetie,” Sana called out, "I think we might be in trouble."
You saw it too: fatigue creeping into her movements. For all her skill, her tessens weren’t made for battles like this, a relentless assault where the numbers were woefully stacked against her. You snapped a claw around a soldier’s ankle, yanking him off balance just in time for Sana to dart in, her fan flicking across his throat.
“Nice catch,” she whispered, brushing past you. “Keep it up, and I might just keep you around, for muscle, or some…extra curricular relaxation.”
But then, a sword slipped through your defenses. You dodged the blow by inches, but the soldier on your left lunged before you could recover. Sana was there in a flash, deflecting the strike with one fan while slashing with the other.
“You know,” she murmured, sidling up beside you again, “if you keep letting them get this close, I’ll think you’re trying to show off.”
"I thought you liked a challenge," you shot back, fighting off a smirk while twisting your claw to disarm another attacker.
She giggled, spinning away from an oncoming spear. “I do, I do! But maybe not so many, hmm?”
You didn’t answer, twisting your rope claws to wrap around a soldier’s leg. With a sharp tug, you pulled him off his feet, sending him crashing into two more attackers. Sana followed through, slicing across their necks with a playful hum.
“You know,” she whispered as she slid into your space again, “I think we’re much too good together.” Her breath brushed your ear, even as her fan knocked aside a sword mid-swing. “Is it just me, or do you just adore being this close to me?”
A soldier broke past your defences, lunging toward Sana. You lashed out instinctively, rope claw wrapping around his sword arm and yanking him back. Sana pivoted smoothly, her fan slicing across his throat in one fluid motion, a smirk on her face as she flicked her fans, the blood accumulated on them splattering onto the mud.
“You’re so protective,” she whispered, her voice dripping with mischief. “Now I’m really sure you’re in love with me.”
Another wave of attackers surged in. You lashed both claws in sweeping arcs, the ropes hissing through the air. The claws slammed into two soldiers’ weapons, tangling them in place, and with a sharp twist, you disarmed them both. Sana slipped through the chaos, her fans flashing like twin blades of moonlight, cutting down anyone who got too close.
The tide, however, wasn’t turning. The soldiers were closing in again, surrounding the two of you despite your best efforts. Sana’s breath was coming faster now, her movements just a hair slower.
“Gotta say,” she huffed, blocking another blow with a flick of her fan, “I think I liked it better when it was just us. More will they won’t they, less bloody murder” She twisted her wrist, slashing a soldier across the face, but even as she turned for the next one, you saw it—her movements faltered just a second too long.
A soldier slipped through her guard.
"Look out!"
She raised a tessen, but the man's blade smashed against her head with a sickening crack. The impact sent her stumbling backward, her smile fading for the first time that night.
“Don’t worry,” she murmured, voice soft and hazy. “I’ve—got…” Her knees buckled, and the tessen slipped from her fingers as she collapsed.
Anger flashed through your eyes, you were already moving.
With a growl, you snapped both claws wide. The hooked blades shot through the air, coiling around the legs of two soldiers. A vicious tug sent them crashing to the ground. You reeled them in without hesitation, slamming your knee into one man’s face while your claws dragged the second soldier across jagged rocks.
Another charged from the side, but you spun smoothly, claws slicing in opposite arcs. The first blade caught him in the throat; the second hooked his ankle, yanking him face-first into the dirt.
The few remaining soldiers hesitated now, their ranks thinning and their confidence shattered.
In one vicious movement, your claws flew like a predatory hawk, striking the last few stragglers, almost simpler than a hot knife through butter, their bodies thudding to the ground
They didn’t get back up.
The clearing was quiet again—just the crackle of dying flames and the ragged sound of your breath.
With a sigh, you turned, eyes on the collapsed figure.
Wrapping a cloak from a fallen soldier around her, you pick her up in a bridal carry, then looking around to find the route back to camp.
“Cap! What’re you doing? Isn’t that the general from that camp?” Fran asked, spear held up in a defensive stance. “We’re better than this, Cap. What did you do to her?” Fran questioned. “She had a proposition for me, and I went to entertain her. She got ambushed by her enemies, and I fought alongside her. She got knocked out. I’m going to care for her till she’s well, then hear her proposition. Afterwards, I’ll send her back to her camp.” You explained, setting Sana down in a private tent. “Stand watch over her, I’ll go get some water.” Fran nodded, grabbing a seat near Sana. Walking to the lake, your eyebrows furrowed.
She was unlike anyone you’d ever fought beside—brilliant, reckless, and as unpredictable as the flip of a coin. In the chaos of battle, you could never tell if she’d pull off some audacious manoeuvre that would save your lives or plunge you both into the abyss. She had the kind of wild courage that seemed born from the folly of gods, laughing in the face of death like it was an old friend, inviting it to share a tankard of wine.
And then there was the flirting.
It was maddening. Every word from her lips dripped with a playful challenge, an innuendo wrapped in silk and shadow. Sana wielded her teasing remarks like weapons, sharp, swift, and aimed to wound. It was not enough that you fought side by side, shoulder to shoulder, with your life hanging by a thread. No, she transformed the battlefield into her stage, throwing glances and barbed words at you as if they were daggers meant for a different kind of combat.
You clenched your fists, your jaw tight with frustration. Her words clung to you like a cobweb, ensnaring your thoughts long after the battle’s dust had settled, pulling you in with every innuendo. It was maddening, the way she teased you, every flick of her fan a deliberate enticement meant to draw you closer. It was not merely combat that she sought to conquer; it was something far more dangerous, a realm where reason faltered. And the worst part? You found yourself responding. Against every shred of wisdom, you wanted to meet her flirtations with your own.
It would have been easier if she were just another soldier, a fellow blade to respect and leave behind once the blood was shed. You could understand that kind of camaraderie: admiration for skill, the bond forged in the heat of battle, and when it was over, you could part ways without a second thought. But no. She did not play by those rules. She didn’t just fight the battle in front of her, she pressed close to you, toying with your heart like a puppeteer would, exploiting weaknesses you didn’t realise you had, and what frightened you the most was that you began to relish it.
You exhaled sharply, dragging a hand down your face, splashing water to bring you back to your senses. You had responsibilities, and she was trouble. Trouble wrapped in a storm of steel and silk. Every aspect of her, from her wild grin to her sharp tongue, exuded danger. A danger you couldn’t afford to keep near, a danger you should cast away as far as you can and never look back.
Yet here you remained.
Your men were starving. Villages lay in ruins, their ashes scattered across the land, corpses piled high like forgotten burdens. Somewhere out there, entire cities had been lost to the horrors of war, their screams echoing through the night. You and your band of merry men had made it a mission to find and protect those who had survived those sieges. You should have been thinking of strategy, of survival, of finding the resources to carry on. Yet your thoughts circled back to her—her, of all people.
You fetched her water, wiped the blood from her brow. You knew how it would go: her dark eyes would flutter open, that sly, wicked grin spreading across her face the moment she saw you. And of course, the first thing out of her mouth would be some absurd remark, sharp and playful, like always—something flirtatious that would slide beneath your skin and linger like a wound.
And the worst part? You knew you would want to hear it.
“Did you miss me, or were you just hoping I’d wake up to your pretty face?”
The war raged on, but in those fleeting moments, when it was just the two of you, it was hard to think of anything else other than her. She was a siren in the storm, tempting you to abandon all sense of duty and dive into the depths of something unknown. But you had a duty, you told yourself, and she had a duty too. As one of the generals in the senseless war between the 8 kingdoms that serves only to spill innocent blood and destroy lives
It would be easier to fall. Fall into whatever game she was playing. But could you really? Sana was a general. You were a captain. She had responsibilities to return to. Could she just be playing some sick game to keep herself entertained. You should hope that was the case, she’d get bored, leave, she’d fight her war, you would fight yours. But deep down, you wanted it to be real. You wanted to fall. It was a dangerous game you played, and with each passing moment, you found it harder to resist the call of her laughter and the pull of her charm. You sighed, shaking your head. You should have stayed away from that camp.
As you trudged back to your camp, you noticed something awry, Fran’s spear laid on the ground. From the tent, you could hear a faint voice. “The person I was with, where are they? Answer me now, or I’ll open your throat.” Eyes widening, you charged in, seeing Fran tensed up, Sana’s fan held against her throat. The look on Sana’s face was terrifying. You had been used to seeing her smile, her dauntless smile in the face of whatever odds. You were glad she was so smiley. Her anger was, to be frank, terrifying. “You’re okay!” Sana’s face morphed back into her signature smile, dropping her fan as she jumped at you, throwing you into an embrace. “That’s Fran, my second in command.” You clarified, pointing to the grumpy soldier who picked up her spear. “That was a good takedown,” Fran grumbled, stepping out of the tent and trying to shake off the tension of the moment.
Sana, still glued to you, turned her attention back with a playful glint in her eye. “So, I know your second in command’s name, but what’s yours? I’m Sana.” Her voice lowered to a sultry purr.
“Y/N L/N,” you said, trying to keep your composure despite the allure radiating from her.
“Oh? Sana L/N. Sounds like a beautiful name, don’t you think, love?” Sana teased, leaning in so close that you could feel the warmth of her breath against your neck.
“Enough,” you grunted, handing her the pouch of water, grateful for the distraction.
“Strong, gorgeous, and considerate? You really are the whole package, aren’t you?” she teased, taking a sip from the pouch, her eyes glinting mischievously.
“What was your proposition, Sana?” you asked, determined to keep this conversation on the battlefield, not in the realm of flirtation.
“Oh, right. Your men need food and supplies. I can provide that for you, but—” She paused, running her fingers lazily through her hair, “—for a price.”
“I’m not sleeping with you, Sana.”
“Get your mind out of the gutter!” she laughed, a sound like chiming bells. “Though I like where your mind is at, that’s not what I need from you.”
“My queen needs more men in this war,” she said, her tone turning suddenly serious. “Bend the knee, and I’ll see to it your men are fed.”
“My men are not sellswords,” you affirmed, resolute. “We fight for the good of the people, not for any king or queen.”
“Don’t worry, I know all about it. I assure you, my queen is not a warmonger. She seeks only to reclaim her maiden home, after which you and your men will be free to leave and fight your battles. But you may choose to stay and serve. I’d very much prefer you take the second option.” She bit her lip, the gesture rife with innuendo, drawing your gaze against your will.
You fell silent, deep in thought, yet Sana seemed to revel in your deliberation, taking it as an invitation to cling closer. Her proximity muddled your mind, drowning you in a sea of desire and distraction.
“You can sleep on it, sugar,” she purred, her voice dripping with temptation. “For now, how about I reward you for a job well done? Like I said, I don’t need to walk tomorrow.” She leaned in, whispering the last words as if casting a spell.
Frustrated, you turned, your hands raised in indecision as you moved forward, cornering Sana against the tent's fabric. She could escape without breaking a sweat, of course, but there she remained, a sultry smile playing on her lips.
“Mm, aggressive. I like that. It’s about time you took some of the reins. My safeword is Ivy,” Sana purred, and your resolve wavered as her words hung heavy in the air.
But before you could respond, a distant horn echoed through the night, no doubt some battle that would leave only death in its wake, breaking the spell that hung between you. The moment was pierced by the harsh reality of your situation. The war loomed like a dark cloud on the horizon, and your men relied on you to lead, not to be distracted by the dangerous allure of a flirtatious ally.
You took a step back, forcing yourself to breathe. “This isn’t the time for games, Sana. My men need me. They’re hungry, desperate.”
Her smile faltered for a heartbeat, the mask slipping just enough for you to catch a glimpse of the worry behind those playful eyes. “I know,” she said softly, the teasing lilt fading. “But this isn’t just a game to me either. I’m fighting for something real.”
You could see the flicker of sincerity in her gaze, and it softened your heart even as it pounded against your ribs. “I’ll consider your offer,” you said, choosing your words carefully.
Sana nodded, and for a moment, the flirtatious mask slipped completely, revealing a fierce determination. “Then I will make sure your men are fed and taken care of. I swear it. But do not think for a moment that this, that you and I are over.”
You stepped away, mind racing with the weight of your choice. As you turned to leave, you heard her call after you, her voice tinged with something deeper than mere flirtation. “I’ll await you at my camp, I’m sure you know the way. I look forward to seeing you again, Y/N L/N.”

Mina x Reader: la folie d'un(e)
Permanent Taglist: @cwpiqwon @justme-idle
A/N: Yes, The picture is a weird choice, I promise it's the right pic. Also sorry @keervah. and thanks @frenchyypoo and @1luvkarina for beta reading
Your eyes shut tight at the bright glare of the sun, causing you to wince in annoyance. As you reach around your bed, you found yourself alone. That was odd, Mina loved to sleep in on her off days, especially after a week long stint on the graveyard shift. Hmm, maybe she got hungry.
“Babe?” You groggily call out, scratching your hair, expecting to smell some waffles, or any of the foods Mina usually liked to prepare for breakfast, but no. No response from her either. Your eyebrow raised in caution. No note, no message, nothing. Your first thought was an intruder. As someone who was married to a law enforcement officer, you’ve had many close scraps with pissed off criminals hoping to get revenge, or an up and coming criminal wanting to kidnap a cop for leverage. Arming yourself with a small kitchen knife, you creeped out of the kitchen slowly. No signs of forced entry, your IDS was still armed. Either your intruder was a ghost, or you were all clear.
Letting out a sigh of relief, you holster the knife, going to the fridge to grab some milk. You’ve had this situation happen more often than you’d like, but that’s the downside of being married to a police officer. Mina would disappear in the morning, for some manhunt or all hands on deck situation. When these situations arose, you found it best not to call, the miniscule chance of the call messing something up was too huge a deterrent for you to interrupt her work. She’ll call when she can. In the meantime, to keep your mind off of it, you grab your tote bag, intending on heading to the market for some shopping. On the way out however, an old photo frame that sat at the mantle next to the door seemed odd. You distinctly remember it being a picture of both you and Mina at the beach, your first date, now instead, it was a picture of you with your family at one of your cousin’s weddings. That’s odd, you could have sworn it was a picture with Mina. Maybe she’s been doing some redecorating. A discussion for when Mina comes back. “Yo! Juin!” You shout out as you waved to the teenager manning the store. “Morning Boss, what do you need today?” He said as he got up, adjusting his apron. “Just looking for some fruit. Where’s your pops?” You ask, looking through the fruits available at the store. “Oh he’s in the back, settling some shipping problems with the delivery guys.” Juin replied as he took the watermelons and other assorted fruits from you, going to wrap it up. “Big day? You usually don’t buy so many fruits in one go.” “Well, Mina’s probably had a long day, so I want to prepare a fruit platter for her to go with dinner.” You reply with a smile as you hand him the money. “Mina? New Girlfriend?” Juin asked in confusion. “Come on man, you’ve met Mina, she’s been my wife for 2 years and counting. Don’t you remember her? Japanese, shy, looks like a penguin, loves ketchup irrationally.” You ask, perplexed that Juin could not remember Mina. “Doesn’t ring a bell.” Juin replied, clearly not joking too. The youth these days, them and their poor memories. “Oh well, gotta run, say hi to your dad for me, he definitely knows her. Ask him to show you a picture of Mina.” You say, placing the fruits into your tote back, waving before walking off. As you walked off, Juin’s dad walked out. “Hey pops, Y/N came by. They mentioned a wife? Mina?” Juin asked his father “Who’s Mina?”
After a little more shopping, you hauled your bags back into your apartment complex, seeing a neighbour, and good friend of Mina’s, Nayeon, waving to you, rushing up to you and relieving your load of bags, then looping her hand around your arm. “Expecting company tonight Y/N? I’m disappointed you didn’t invite me first.” Nayeon pouted, looking at you in mock anger. “Another day Nayeon, I have a lovely spread for Mina tonight.” You respond, gesturing to your bags. Nayeon looks at you quizzically. “You have a girlfriend now? How could you keep this from me?” Nayeon asked, now more shocked than her previous mock anger. You chuckle awkwardly, trying to see when Nayeon would burst out laughing, or be unable to hide a smirk about this trick, but none. Nayeon seemed serious. “Come on, Nay, seriously. Mina was the one who introduced me to you. The two of you are in the same book club? There’s no way you don’t know her.” You ask her, worried as pieces slowly began to fall apart. She was missing this morning, no note, nothing. Juin didn’t remember Mina, more importantly, Nayeon didn’t either. Nayeon, who spent more time with Mina and their little friend group then she spends sleeping. This doesn’t make any sense. Seeing Nayeon shake her head, clearly now worried about you, you shook your head, muttering under your breath. “This isn’t possible. I have to go.” You hastily run to your door, leaving Nayeon standing behind you, confused and worried. You fumbled with the key in your hand, frantically trying to open the door. When the door finally creaked open, you bolted in, intending to find a picture of Mina. Maybe Nayeon was just having a medical issue, and a picture of Mina would jog her memory. You sprinted around the house, trying desperately to find Mina in a picture. But somehow, not a single one could be found. Picture frames where photos of the two of you once sat, were now replaced by pictures with your family. Even those photos you knew, you were certain, Mina was in, she was absent from those pictures, disappeared like she had never existed. How could this happen? Were you going mad?
You hastily pull your phone out, looking for her contact, but none showed up. Dialling her number, the phone company says that the number is not registered. Desperate, you phone the police. “Hello, Castle Hills Police Department Dispatch. How may I help you?” “Where is Officer Mina Myoui, badge number 23796.” You hastily spit out. “Who is this?” “This is Y/N L/N, Officer Mina Myoui’s partner.” “Alright, I’ll check.” The clacking of the keyboard in the background of the call offered no help to calm your nerves, forcing you to try to take deep breaths to keep your heart rate low. “I’m sorry, we have no record of an Officer Myoui.” You immediately hang up, dropping the phone to the ground as you felt the world around you begin to dance. Mina was gone from pictures, gone from…everything. Did she never actually exist? It didn’t make any sense, you remembered every single moment you had spent with Mina, meeting her at a cafe near her station, your first date at the beach, getting married, moving into this apartment together. But it was undeniable, no one else remembered Mina, not her friends, not her coworkers, there was no trace of Mina, not in photos, nothing. Was she really a hallucination all this while, or was this all a huge nightmare, but if this was a nightmare, why would you be able to rationalise all this, you had read this before, was this madness? And why is this happening and does that lamp look weird, maybe the dimensions were off and why is this happening today, and-
Before your mind could race anymore, the world grinded to a halt. The honking of traffic outside went silent, birds stopped chirping. For a matter of fact, they stopped flying, frozen in the air as if time had stopped. And it had, for everything, and everyone, except for you. Looking around in confusion, you heard a thud at the door. Still disoriented, you just stared at the door. As the lock clicked, the door opened, and through the door, stepped Mina. Though initially stunned, you quickly ran up to her, throwing her into an embrace, one which she reciprocated, wrapping her hands around you and squeezing tight. “What’s going on, Mina? No one remembers you, and nothing of you is here, it's like you don’t exist.” You frantically ask, not willing to let go of Mina, afraid that she’d disappear the moment she left your grasp. “I’ll explain everything. Let’s sit down first.” Mina said, pointing to the couch as she made a poor attempt at hiding the tears in her eyes. Grabbing her hand as tightly as you could, the two of you walked to the couch. “Y/N.” Mina started, a slight pause in the middle of her sentence, taking a deep breath. “I’m not human. I’m a goddess.” She said, looking you straight in the eye. “Don’t lie to me. I’ve been through enough today Minari. Please, just tell me the truth, that’s all I need.” You plead, feeling your brain about to break at any moment. “I’m not lying, My parents wanted to give me a normal adjacent childhood, so they left me on earth with parents to take care of me after I turned 6.” Mina explained, extending her hand as she conjured a small flame in her hand. You were shocked, but after the news that no one remembered your wife, this just seemed like a somehow reasonable extension of the day. “Okay, if you’ve had these powers for so long, then why would everyone forget you now? Why all of a sudden?” Tears welled up in Mina’s eyes, fists clenched. “My mom was killed. There was a rogue in the pantheon, and she killed many of the gods and goddesses. I need to ascend to take her place, then put the rogue down. But… for me to ascend to the pantheon, there cannot be a trace that I existed as a mortal here.” Mina explained, fingers trembling. “You did this…You erased everyone’s memories of you, every trace of you.” You questioned, a tinge of betrayal bubbling in you.
Mina was unable to look you in the eye, fist clenched, hesitating a moment before nodding. “Then why do I remember?” You ask, perplexed. “Because I love you. I had to make everyone forget about me, and erase every trace of me, but I thought I could sneak one person past with their memories. You. Leave you with the memories of our love. And it worked. I ascended without a problem. But I saw how you were suffering, not because you had forgotten about me, but because you remembered. I don’t want to see you slowly go insane, my love. I can’t do that to you.” Mina explained, hand lightly cupping your cheek. “So what now.” You mumbled, realising your happy life was slowly collapsing like a house of cards. “You know what I have to do.” Mina whispered “Please, Mina. No. I want to remember you. I want to remember our first kiss, our movie nights, our everything. Please, Mina. Even if I can’t have you, at least…let me remember what I once had with you. I won’t go crazy, I know you had to ascend, I’ll go about my life now, but I want to remember. Please.” You say, at this point, you had stopped even attempting to hold your tears in, staring at Mina, trying to map every bit of her face for what could be the last time, her almond shaped eyes, her blond hair, her little mole, everything that made up the woman you loved. Mina shook her head with tears in her eyes. “The only reason I was allowed back down was because I said there was someone who I had forgotten to wipe. They’ll check, Y/N. I don’t have a choice.” Mina whispered, cupping your cheek, pulling you in for one last kiss. As you shared your last kiss, your last embrace, you begged, you almost screamed, cursed at the powers that be, for all of this to be a dream. For you to wake up in your bed, held by your loving wife, living the perfect life you had enjoyed for so long “Goodbye, my Y/N. My love for you will never fade, I promise. I love you.” Mina whispered, before gently placing her hand on your forehead. “No Mina! Please!” You screamed in despair, but it was too late. Mina, eyes clenched shut, unwilling to look in the eyes of the person she had spent so much time with, and loved so deeply, forget about her, and forget about everything they had done together. The love they shared together, the kisses in bed before going to work. All gone Then, as if a curse was laid upon her, while removing your memories, she was forced to watch the future she was robbing the both of you of. You would have had two kids. One would have been named Jackson. The other, Rachel. You would have had your vows renewed at Hawaii on a family vacation. The two of you would have had long lives ahead of you, full of love, full of everything you could ask for, all because you would have had Mina. Not anymore
As Mina recoiled back, she fell onto the sofa, sobbing into her hands as you now stood frozen at the couch. Mina took her last look at you, wanting to burn you into her memories, and simultaneously, she felt an intense wave of grief and sadness. Your memories of her are lost now. You would meet someone else, fall in love with someone else, walk down the aisle with someone else. It was supposed to be Mina. It was Mina. But not anymore. Walking up to your frozen figure, Mina leaned in, leaving one last peck on your forehead.
“I’m so sorry, my love. This is my curse now, all of our memories, remembering you but never being able to have you. I’ll live for thousands upon thousands of years, but I’ll never love another. I’ll be cursed to love the ghost of you. A madness, la folie d’une”

Kazuha x Reader: Yellow Ribbon
Permanent Taglist: @cwpiqwon @justme-idle
I know I haven’t been posting much(I’ve been busy unfortunately), but y’all know I had to give y’all smth for Valentine’s Day
Around her head, she wore a yellow ribbon
She wore it in the spring time in the early month of May
"Miss, we've got to go!" Kazuha heard her manager shout from outside her room.
"In a minute!" Kazuha shouted, still frantically rummaging around her room.
Worried, Kazuha's manager walked to her room, peeking in to check on her, seeing Kazuha half under her bed, moving boxes around
"Miss, with all due respect, it took Miss Chaewon 3 months to get a reservation at this restaurant, if we're late, she will skin us alive." Kazuha's manager threw her hands up in desperation, finally seeing Kazuha stand up, a yellow ribbon in her hand.
Tying it into a bow around her head, she looked into the mirror, a smile as she forlornly ran her hand across the ribbon.
"Oh, it was the ribbon. Why do you even wear it?" She asked, Yunjin standing behind them, smiling. The manager was new, she had to be, anyone who knew Kazuha long enough knew why.
and if you ask her why the heck she wore it
Five Years ago
Kazuha crashed onto the ground with a thud, a mad dash for a frisbee resulting in a rough collision, causing Kazuha and her opponent to crash onto the ground.
"Kazuha!" She could hear her teacher shout out, but she couldn't get up, a rough stinging on her forehead causing her to wince, a crimson red flowing down her forehead.
Kazuha saw her teacher for but a moment, before her teacher vanished from her view, a loud thud next to her. Even through the stinging pain on her forehead, Kazuha chuckled at the sight, the person supposed to take care of her was felled next to her by her fear of blood.
"Move aside! I'm first aid trained!" Kazuha heard an authoritative voice shout out from the side, an unfamiliar voice, one belonging to a rather quiet and unassuming classmate of hers.
"Go to the gym, there's a first aid kid there, and you, go to the office and tell them a student is injured and a teacher fainted. Go now!" You shouted out, pointing directions as feckless classmates nodded mindlessly, needing another prod before running to their destination, some attending to the fainted teacher.
Kneeling next to Kazuha, you slid a hand behind her back, supporting her upper body up, grabbing a bag for Kazuha to lean on.
"Miss, are you alright? Can you tell me what time it is, where we are, and who you are?" You asked, body leaning slightly to the left as you pulled out your first aid dressing from your bag.
"It's afternoon, we're at the field, I'm Kazuha." Kazuha replied, causing you to nod and prepare the first aid dressing.
"This might hurt a little." You said, pressing the dressing on her wound, wrapping it around Kazuha's head.
Kazuha winced at the pain, but gritted her teeth, taking a deep breath.
"Shit" Kazuha could hear you mutter under your voice, causing her to immediately look at you in worry, fearing some complication had occured.
"Why? What's wrong?" Kazuha's voice slightly trembled in fear
"No, it's nothing, just the wrapping is giving me some issues, could you hold it for a little?"
You quickly beckoned Kazuha to place her hand on the bandage, applying pressure to her wound as you rummaged through your bag, pulling out a yellow ribbon.
"This will only take a minute" You reassured Kazuha, Kazuha smiling despite the pain as she admired the focus on your face
Taking the ribbon, you used it to hold the bandage in place, wrapping the ribbon around her head.
"There, all better now." You asked, confused at Kazuha's rather goofy grin
"I'm fine, thanks to you." Kazuha replied as she continued to stare at you
"That's good. When the teachers come, just tell them the bandage was applied at 1321, I'll be going now." Seeing your job done, you quickly tried to slip back into your quiet recluse, but Kazuha, even in her pained state, wouldn't let them happen, this new side of you was one not many had seen before, and she didn't want to let it go.
"Wait, don't go!" Kazuha shouted out, causing you to turn around at a rapid speed.
"What's wrong, are you alright?" You sprinted to her, dropping your bag as you cupped her head with your hand, checking the area of the wound.
Immediately, Kazuha's cheek lit up in embarrassment, making the blood spilled earlier seem pale by comparison.
"No, no, I just wanted to thank you for helping me. If you don't mind, can I get your number? I'd love to get dinner with you soon." Kazuha asked, causing you to freeze.
"Oh, umm, sure!" Taken aback, you began to stutter, but you quickly told Kazuha your number
"And my name i-" You began to say, but Kazuha quickly cut you off.
"Y/N. It's a cute name" Kazuha said with a smile, causing you to blush in turn.
Seeing Kazuha enter your number, you smiled, before you decided to take a step, grabbing your bag, putting it next to Kazuha, before plopping down next to her.
"Your head must hurt, wanna let it rest?" You offer, petting your shoulder, an offer Kazuha took with little hesitation.
She wore it for the soldier who was far far away
Two Years ago
"Zuha, I've gotta go." You whispered, lightly chuckling as you felt her head shake fervently against your chest.
"No you don't, you liar." She mumbled as you lightly sighed, running your hand through her hair in an attempt to calm her down.
"Zuha, it's a conscription army, besides, it's my country, if I can serve it, I should." You tried to explain, causing Kazuha to bolt up from your chest, tears welling in her eyes.
"But you could have been a clerk, or an admin personnel. Hell, you could have been a tank operator and I would be less worried. Why'd they have to put my baby as a paratrooper, it's so dangerous, you jump out of helicopters and have to fight the enemy with no backup and-and....I don't want to lose you." Kazuha could barely finish her sentence, feeling her melt into you as you almost break, thinking, consequences be damned, you had to stay and take care of her. But you had a duty.
"I'm going to be fine zuha, don't you know my secret?" You say, as Kazuha hiccuped, wiping her tears as she looked to you in curiosity.
"I love you so much that I won't do anything without your permission, not even die." You whisper, leaving a light kiss on her forehead, causing her to chuckle a little.
"Then get ready to stay immortal you idiot." She mumbled, nuzzling her head into your neck
"For you my love, anything." You say, pulling her in closer.
"Y/N, we're gonna be late!" You heard your older sister shout from outside
"Be there in a minute Rach!" You shout out, Kazuha begrudgingly getting up, you move to put your beret on.
"Oh yeah, while I'm away, Zuha, could you make sure Rachel takes care of herself, and attends her damn appointments. God knows she hates attending them." You bemuse, grabbing your assault bag
"Of course, how close is she already by the way? 2 more months right?" Kazuha asked, as you nodded.
"Guess who wouldn't know that? Fucking Raph" You spat with malice as Kazuha sighed, growing accustomed to your rants regarding Rachel's less than responsible "boyfriend"
"Rachel's a grown woman, she can handle her relationships alright? and if shit hits the fan, you'll be licensed to kill won't you?" Kazuha said, causing you to chuckle.
Kazuha's mood was more or less snuffed out by Rachel rushing you again, reminding her of your imminent departure.
"It's just 2 weeks of confinement to get me accustomed to army life Zuha, i'll be out in no time." You reassured, Kazuha mustering up her best smile, nodding as she leaned in to leave a light kiss on your cheek.
"Meanwhile, take care alright? I know training at HYBE's been hard, don't over exert yourself, and if anything goes wrong, tell Sakura alright?" You said, Kazuha nodding, rushing into you for a hug.
"Before you go, give it a kiss, it's good luck." Kazuha said, causing you to smile.
Kazuha bowed a little, making the yellow ribbon accessible to you, allowing you to give it a little kiss.
"I'll be back in no time alright?"
1 Year and 10 months ago
You ran like a mad dog out of hell down the white corridor, a speed you had never even achieved when you had GPMGs fired at you, or assault rifles aimed at you. It had taken you so damn long to even get out of the damn base, regimentation and chain of commands slowing your desperate need to leave.
Your run comes to an abrupt halt as you see Kazuha on the ground, head buried between her shoulders as her shoulders heaved up and down, causing your eyes to widen, falling next to Kazuha as the two of you shared a glance, understanding what had happened.
After the two of you sobbed on the hospital ground, Kazuha turned to you, trying to compose herself.
"Rachel had a request." Kazuha said with a quivering voice.
Still unable to come to grasps with your sister's passing, you tried your hardest to calm down, but to no avail.
"Baby, this was important to Rachel. She wants us to raise Cheryl as our own, give her a normal childhood, and only tell her the truth when she's old enough to take it well."
Hearing that, you looked up, eye swollen as you looked to Kazuha, the both of you getting up, seeing a doctor carry a small child in his hand.
"I'm sorry for your loss, but I believe Miss L/N declared the two of you as her legal guardians now." The doctor said, handing the small child to you.
Holding the little child in your arms, you looked at her, feeling a small spark of joy despite what you had lost.
"I'll do it Zuha. For Rachel." You mutter, hoping your sister would be a little more at peace.
Around the block, she pushed a baby carriage
She pushed it in the spring time in the early month of May
"Miss, you know that we can get any of our staff to help push the stroller. This is too risky! If dispatch or any random netizen takes a picture of this, the forums will go insane" Kazuha's manager showed her inexperience once again, unaware of her ward's obstinance to certain activities, never bending over decisions. Like being given leave to spend time with you whenever you were not activated for a mission or guarding the bases as long as they weren't in the middle of an active comeback, and that at least 4 times a week, Kazuha was allowed to bring Cheryl down for some mother-daughter time.
"You're happy today." Kazuha comment as she looks down at Cheryl, whose little hands kept clapping, a small smile on her face.
"You know they're coming back today too, don't you?" Kazuha asked as she stopped, kneeling next to Cheryl who began to giggle.
"Yeh, I miss Y/N too." Kazuha said, gently kneading Cheryl's cheek, smiling and bursting with excitement.
And if you ask her why the heck she pushed it
She pushed it for the soldier who was far far away
Standing at the ferry terminal, Kazuha hummed in anticipation, rocking her stroller back and forth at a gentle pace, allowing Cheryl to rest.
Seeing the ferry dock, Kazuha's anticipation rose, looking around expectantly, pupils dilating the moment she saw that familiar beret on the head of the person she loved.
You ran up to her, throwing Kazuha into an embrace, giving her a light kiss on the cheek before kneeling down.
"Did you miss me Cheryl? You did didn't you? Of course you did." You played around with Cheryl as Kazuha looked at the two of you, smiling as she knew how rare this was for the two of you, hard to spend some parent-daughter time together.
"Hey Mrs L/N!" Kazuha looked up, seeing Y/N's close friend, Lucas, a smile on his face as per usual, his cheerful energy always infectious.
"Hey Lucas, how's it been going?" Kazuha asked as Lucas shrugged.
"The usual, y'know, but I swear Y/N being a lieutenant now is messing with our dynamic." Lucas joked around, causing you to turn around with shock.
"Hey! It's not my fault that you have to salute me now. It is what it is man." You playfully jab at Lucas, who rolled his eyes, diverting his attention to Cheryl.
"I swear, Lucas is going to be that eccentric uncle in the future." You mutter to Kazuha, who chuckled at the banter between the two of you.
As the two of you began to wrestle, Kazuha sighed, whispering to Cheryl, "Your parents have weird friends."
"Alright alright, knock it off you two, we have some family time to get to."
Lucas nodded, waving as the two of you returned to the car, sharing kisses, hugs, giggles, and any stories under the sun.
"I'm starting to think being in the army has messed up your fashion sense." Kazuha scrunched her nose, causing you to pout as she giggled, going back to the mirror, adjusting the object of affection.
"Honestly Kazuha, you know I'll be okay if you take it off right? Doesn't it get annoying to always have to wear it?" You asked, much to Kazuha's dismay
"I wear it because my baby spends more time in the army camp than with me, so to remind myself of that baby, I wear it everywhere." Kazuha said defiantly, chest puffed out causing you to chuckle, folding immediately. It was funny the effect Kazuha had on you. You had the nerves to stare down enemies wielding guns while armed with nothing but a dagger and an indomitable spirit, but Kazuha would make you break instantly.
"How do I look?" Kazuha asked, and once again, you feel like a deer in headlights.
Kazuha had on a white satin dress, a rather simple outfit, but she wore it like a luxury gown.
"That good huh?" Kazuha joked as you mindlessly nodded, causing her to chuckle.
"Let's go, the Chauffeur is waiting for us. Eunchae already helped to bring Cheryl down." Kazuha said
"Are you sure that's safe, I'm pretty sure Eunchae still isn't happy that she's not the baby of the group anymore." You joked, Kazuha laughing as she recalled how they all laughed as Eunchae started beef with a 2 year old, acting more like Cheryl's sister than her aunt.
"She'll be fine." Kazuha chuckled, looping her hand around your arm, following you to the car
"It sucks we can't eat out like normal people you know?" You comment as you look around at the empty restaurant, a necessary measure to protect Kazuha and her group from any unwanted media attention.
"Are you seriously telling me you prefer the slop they give you in the army to this?" Kazuha furrowed her eyebrows, causing you to shake your head.
"No, no, it's just... I barely spend any time with Cheryl, and the few times we do, I just wish we could be like a normal family y'know, complain about the long queues for a restaurant but still not leave, have to push and shove through the zoo as hordes of families rush to see the lions. I just wish I could spend more time with you and this one." You mutter, leaning down to lightly pat Cheryl's head, Kazuha nodding as she shared your sentiment.
"But you're here now, and that's all that matters. Let's just enjoy this dinner alright?" Kazuha said, and you nodded in agreement.
The dinner went well, long periods of time away from each other always left the two of you with oceans upon oceans of things to talk about. Even if you didn't fully understand what a plie was, and Kazuha didn't understand what Fire movement was, it didn't matter. The two of you simply enjoyed each others company, and that was enough. Well, it was enough, until your phone let out a chime, not something either of you wanted to hear.
Quickly grabbing your phone, you picked up the phone.
"Sir. Now? Yes, I understand. I'll send you my live location, send the chopper in at 1943. Yes Sir, there's a helipad here. I'll meet you at the rooftop Sir. Yes Sir. Hailstorm, over and out." You quickly replied, Kazuha's face sinking.
"You've gotta go?" Kazuha asked, causing you to wearily nod.
"I'm so sorry baby, I promise I'll make it up to you and Cheryl some time soon." You hurriedly said, texting Lucas to grab the necessary gear before the helicopter got to his place
"It's alright, just come back safe and sound, alright?" Kazuha said, running to hug you.
"Of course, I don't have your permission to die yet, do I?" Kazuha shook her head with a veritable ferocity, causing you to chuckle, leaving her a kiss on the forehead, then a light kiss on the yellow ribbon.
"For good luck." Kazuha whispered, mustering a smile, to which you nodded.
Squatting down, you patted Cheryl on the head, whispering, "Sorry Little one, I'll be back as soon as I can alright?"
Cheryl seemed to know what was going on, already breaking into a cry that broke your heart, as you shared a pained look with Kazuha, before looking to your watch.
1942.
Kazuha knew what time it was, and as much as she didn't want you to go either, she knew there was no other alternative.
"Go, stay safe. I love you." She whispered, leaving you a light peck on the lips, as you reciprocated, shutting your eyes in pain as Cheryl's cries still reverberated through the room, but you had to go, and you forced yourself away, tearing your hands away from Cheryl's, before rushing to the rooftop.
Picking Cheryl up from her highchair, Kazuha began bouncing her a little, saying, "Don't worry alright? They always come back."
"Sir, please, this is private property, we cannot allow you in no matter how urgent the incident is." Kazuha stirred from her slumber on the couch, hearing her manager talking to someone at the door.
"This is urgent, I'm friends with Miss Kazuha, I need to talk to her."
Recognising that voice to belong to Lucas, Kazuha sat up.
"Let him in, he's my friend." Kazuha said, to which the manager nodded, Lucas entering the dorm, a set of items in hand.
"What's the matter Lucas? Where's Y/N? I thought he would come back with you." Kazuha commented, rubbing her eyes as she tried to shake out of slumber.
"Kazuha...I..." Lucas could barely get the next words out of his mouth.
Now fully awake, Kazuha looked at the items in Lucas' hands. A familiar uniform, A familiar beret, A familiar baton. A familiar name.
"No." Kazuha could barely whisper out, as Lucas shut his eyes as tight as he could, willing his tears to stay in.
"On 090524, 0312, Lieutenant Y/N led the infiltration of a rural hospital that had been overtaken by insurgents. The insurgents were taken down, the hostages were saved, but in the firefight...Lieutenant Y/N put themself between flurry of bullets and a room of scared children. Lieutenant Y/N was a hero, who saved the many innocent lives through their years of service. We give thanks to their bravery." Lucas said, Kazuha still stuck in shock.
"No. No. This can't be." Kazuha crumpled to the ground, sobbing as Yunjin and Sakura ran out of their rooms, hearing the commotion. Seeing Lucas, paired with the items in his hands, they understood what had had happened too, running to console Kazuha.
Tears began to flow down Lucas' face too, placing the items on the ground before sitting next to Kazuha.
"I'm sorry Kazuha, but there was nothing that could have been done. Y/N went out as they lived, protecting the innocent." Lucas tried to reassure Kazuha, and so did Yunjin and Sakura, but their voices were all blocked out. Kazuha could only feel herself get engulfed by a deafening silence, only remembering one thing.
You promised that you'd come back safe.
You promised...
A week later
Treading across the grass, Kazuha found her way to you. She could always find her way to you.
"Hey baby." She whispered, running her hand across your headstone.
She sat down next to the headstone, beginning to talk to you, just like old times, she thought to herself.
Back at the car, the 4 other members looked on in worry.
"How many days have it been already?" Eunchae asked worriedly
"3 days. She only leaves to feed Cheryl. She hasn't even eaten yet." Chaewon sighed, Sakura and Yunjin sharing worried glances.
"Aren't we going to do something?" Eunchae asked, fist clenching as the worry begins to almost bubble over.
"What can we do? Y/N was...close to everything to Zuha." Yunjin chimed in, the girls silently agreeing, all looking back to the distraught girl.
As Kazuha laid upon the headstone, she felt a hand on her shoulder.
"I'm not leaving Yunjin. I've told you a million times. I'm not leaving." Kazuha said coldly, not bothering to turn around.
"But you have to, Zuha."
Kazuha turned around in shock. This had to be a trick. How could...
"Baby?" Kazuha asked with a shaky voice.
"Please, take care of yourself Kazuha. Please. It breaks my heart to see you like this." Kazuha heard you whisper, causing her to lash out in anger.
"NO! You don't get to tell me what to do! You're a liar! You broke your promise! To me! To Cheryl! How could you do this to us?" Kazuha shouted out, before breaking down into tears, feeling your hand on her cheek.
"I'm sorry Zuha, you know that given a choice, I would always choose you, but...I didn't have a choice. I'm sorry.” Kazuha heard your voice like a whisper in the wind, the words echoing in Kazuha’s head.
“What do I do now? I don’t want to go on without you, I can’t…” Kazuha fell to the ground, leaning upon your headstone, burying her head in her hands.
“But you’ll never be without me, my dearest Zuha, even in death, I’ll always be with you.” Kazuha heard you whisper to her, a sudden gust of wind blowing upon her back, the yellow ribbon around her head flying off her head, floating to her hand.
“And I’ll always be with you too.” Kazuha whispered, pulling a pair of scissors from her bag.
She quickly cut the yellow ribbon in half, braiding one half of it into her hair, then gently placing the other half around the headstone.
“There, now I’ll always be with you, and you’ll always be with me.” Kazuha whispered, running her hand down the braid, seeing you smile.
“You know I’m not actually here, right Zuha?” You ask, Kazuha cracking a small smile.
“I do. But if you were here, this is exactly what you’d do. Because it’s what you always did. Pull me out of the depths of despair like an angel sent from heaven. You wouldn’t want me to waste away on your grave.” Kazuha smiled, leaning her head upon her headstone.
“I love you, Nakamura Kazuha.” Kazuha heard you say, causing her to smile, tears lightly dripping down her face, as she turned away from you, turning instead to the ribbon around your headstone.
“I love you too, L/N Y/N.” Kazuha whispered, kissing the ribbon tenderly, before turning to see you gone, without a trace.
Kazuha smiled, looking lovingly at your picture on your headstone, before dusting herself off, walking towards the van.
Seeing Kazuha walk into the van, the 4 girls looked at each other in shock. But before they could say anything, they noticed something missing.
“Kazuha, where’s the ribbon?” Chaewon asked, surprised to see her without her trademark ribbon.
“I left it on the grave.” Kazuha simply said, reaching for her seatbelt.
“What—, why?” Yunjin inquired, noting the remnants of the yellow ribbon in her braid
“For Y/N.”
Upon the grave, she placed a yellow ribbon
She placed it in the spring time in the early month of May
And if you ask her why the heck she placed it
She placed it for her soldier, the one who went away

Ning Ning x Reader: Solo un'altra storia d'amore
Permanent Taglist: @cwpiqwon @justme-idle
A/N: Trust me, it all makes sense at the end
A/N: As always, thanks to best bro @1luvkarina. and the usual apology, my bad @slowlydifferentbluebird
“I’ll be there soon, sorry babe, there was a hiccup at work, boss needed us there, Lisa and I were needed for some last minute procedures. I should make it soon though.” Yi Zhuo sighed, though nodding.
“I understand, your job’s important. I’ll be waiting at the bench alright? Love you babe.” Yi Zhuo said, hanging up before sighing, “Got stood up?” Yi Zhuo turned to her side. “Nope, just…something cropped up at her work. She works at the hospital nearby, so whenever a new patient comes in, and they need all hands on board, well…yeh.” Yi Zhuo explained. “Perks of the job huh?” Yi Zhuo snickered “Yeah, something like that” “What’s your name? I’m Yi Zhuo.” She said, extending her hand to you. “I’m Y/N.” You shake her hand, shooting her a small smile. “You’re here often right? I pass by this bench pretty often when I visit Aeri at the hospital, and I see you almost every day.” Yi Zhuo asked. “Yeh, this bench means a lot to me.” You say with a forlorn smile, drenched in nostalgia and loss. “How so?” Yi Zhuo asked, turning to you. “The school I was from believed that this bench was magical. No, I’m not joking.” You say with a small chuckle, seeing Yi Zhuo’s confused face. “This bench had special powers. We believed that this bench was where relationships were made. So all proposals happened here, first dates happened here. I guess the superstition wore off, I barely see any first dates here. Well, it worked for me. This is where I met my girlfriend.” You say with a small smile, though clearly hiding sadness in your eyes. “Oh? What’s her name? What’s your story? Everyone has a special love story.” Yi Zhuo asked, body fully turning to you now, clearly invested. “Oh, well, it’s just another love story. I called her Nini. She was…she was perfect. I met her on this very bench. She was always a loner in class, by choice of course. Half the cohort was obsessed with her, but she always preferred to sit alone. On the way home from school one day, I got tired, and sat here, on this very bench. I was reading one of my books, when she suddenly sat beside me. She insisted that she sat with me because she fell in love with me that day, but I know she sat with me because she was shocked to see someone else reading Journey to the West. Regardless of why she first sat with me, the bench worked. We fell in love that day. She was the sweetest. She’d bring me on the best dates, break the bank to buy me the best gifts, and when I insisted that it was too much, and that a small gifts would be fine, she’d hold my hand, sit me down, and give me a kiss on my forehead, telling me that I deserved the best, the world, the universe, and the stars beyond them.” You explain, causing Yi Zhou to smile. “That’s a nice story. Where is she now?” Yi Zhuo asked. “I’ll get to that…We loved each other, but it felt like the universe was against us sometimes. First off, her parents were against us. The first time we went out on a date, I insisted on sending Nini home. She didn’t outright decline, but I could tell she was uncertain. Turns out, her parents were staunchly against their daughter dating, especially someone like me. That was a hard pill to swallow for me. We went about our relationship like it was a shameful secret, as if we were unworthy of loving each other just because of who we are. Nini was always trying to maintain the peace between us, but as her parents always said, paper cannot wrap a fire, and the truth eventually came out, that Nini’s “friend over for revision” was actually dating Nini. Her parents were livid, and Nini insisted she loved me, but filial piety was important to her, and she couldn’t turn her back on family no matter how much she loved me.” You explain, downtrodden.
“That’s awful…I’m sorry to hear that.” “We didn’t break up from that, thankfully. When the new term started, I was selected for an exchange program to intern at a company in Singapore, for 2 months. It was a complicated period for us, still cooling off from that fight. We agreed to take a break, and reassess our relationship. So we didn’t contact each other for 2 months. I wanted to, so many times, interning was a pain in the ass, but I couldn’t. I had to give her space, for her to choose if she wanted to reach out to me. So I waited beside the phone for her, for 2 months, and for 2 months, nothing. I thought it was over. It felt like all of it was over, but then, as I stepped out of the airport, there she was, bouquet in hand, as beautiful as the day I met her, rushing at me to throw me into an embrace I’d characterise more like a bear hug. What about your parents? I asked her, and her smile shrunk, before putting a finger on my lips. That doesn’t matter, she said, but do me a favour, kiss me and make the bad thoughts go away.” You recall, a light blush on your face. “That’s sweet. How is she now?” Yi Zhuo asked. “I’m sure she’s doing fine.” You reply with a smile. “You’re not with her anymore?” Yi Zhuo’s eyebrows furrowed, having hoped for a happy ending. “Well, the universe has its ways. After graduation, we both got different jobs. I became a police officer, protecting and serving, while she became a social worker, helping those more unfortunate. Our jobs were fulfilling, sure, Nini and I both loved our jobs, but the job got overwhelming…Especially in my second year of the job, I got training to go Undercover. It was good, and it was exciting, but it only served to drive a wedge between Nini and I. We couldn’t live where I worked for fear that we met any of my shadier contacts. But that was where Nini worked, that’s where the kids and elderly she worked with were. She couldn’t leave. She asked me what was more important, my work, or her. I should have told her the truth. I should have told her that nothing was more important than her. But instead I argued. We fought over it, I wanted to help people, and you enjoyed using undercover work to bust criminals, but Nini hated it. She insisted that there were other ways to help people. Being a cop was dangerous enough already, she said, but to effectively give yourself to the criminals, for your life to be snuffed out if you make a single wrong move, she couldn’t accept that, she’d insist. Then on and on our fights went. Then one day…a more unsavoury contact of mine saw me at the barber, and attacked us. I took him down, we both were unscathed, but that was it for Nini. She gave me an ultimatum. Her, or the job. And when I hesitated, she knew what she needed to know. She… She was gone the next day. I wanted to find her, hold her and apologise to her, but one of the gangs waged a war on us, so we had to respond. I was sent undercover, deep undercover this time. New identity, new person. Did some things I'm not proud of, but it worked, and I infiltrated their militia. That’s when I found out about it. Nini…she…umm, got in a car accident.” You choke on your words, looking down, trying your best to will your tears in.
“She lived, but she got hit on the head pretty hard. She lost her memories. When I heard that, I wanted to go back, find her, take care of her again, but my handler insisted against it. It would have not only hurt our case, but it’ll put both Nini and I in danger. Gangs don’t take kindly to rats, traitors or cops. Now try all 3 in one. By the time I finished the job, took the gang down, it was far too late. I found the hospital she was at, showed up with a bouquet of flowers, the same way she did at the airport, and also held a resignation letter from the force. I wasn’t sure if she had regained her memory yet, but I would have stayed until she did, then I would have shown her the letter, tell her that nothing was more important to me than she was. She was my sun, my moon and stars. When I walked out, I saw her with someone else. A nurse who worked at the hospital she was treated at. Nini looked so foreign yet familiar to me at that moment. She held the nurse, and looked at her the same way she once looked at me, love, adoration, and everything in between. I hadn’t seen her have that look in a long time. I hadn’t been worthy of her love. And after taking so long to find and go back to her, maybe I would never be worthy of her love. So I walked away, and let her go about her life. A new one, a happier one. One without me.” You explained, looking at Yi Zhuo with tears in your eyes. “That’s…I’m so sorry you had to go through all that.” Yi Zhuo said, patting you on the back. All of a sudden, your phone lit up, the sudden brightness attracting Yi Zhuo’s eye. The girl on your wallpaper looked very similar to her. Almost identical. “Sorry, I need to take this.” You say, standing up and walking a little to the side. “I’m here, are you done?” The voice rang through. “I am, and thank you for this. You don’t know how much this means to me.” You reply “Of course, you deserve as much.”
“Was that Nini on your wallpaper?” Yi Zhuo asked as you sat back down. For a moment, you felt panic rising in your chest, before stomping it down, regaining your composure. “Yep. She looks very similar to you, doesn’t she? I guess that’s why I wanted to talk to you about this.” You explain, causing Yi Zhuo to nod “I understand, it’s like I’m giving you another chance to talk to Nini again.” She says, causing you to shoot her a small smile. “Yes, something like that. If you’ll excuse me, I must get going now. I have some matters to attend to.” You say, standing and straightening your shirt “Wait, Y/N. I know it might be a little weird considering I look like her, but would you like to hang out. As friends of course, I’ll even introduce you to my girlfriend, I’m sure she’d love to have a new friend to make into a third wheel.” Yi Zhuo jokes, causing you to slightly chuckle. “Perhaps. I’ll be seeing you around, Yi Zhuo.” You smile, but turning away from her as soon as you could, trying to hide your tears. As you walked away slowly, you felt a strong urge to turn around. Say what you wanted to say. You hadn’t seen her in so long after all. And you missed her more than life itself. Who could live without their sun, moon, and stars. You missed her more than life itself, but this felt like a betrayal. You had made a choice, and she had allowed you to see her, but to go behind her back and possibly ruin everything? You clenched your fist tightly, unable to make a decision. You take one final deep breath. This was it
“I’m really glad you’re doing well Nini.”
