NWA TV Title Tournament

I’m trying to follow this TV championship tournament, but it’s confusing, because I think they’re only announcing matches the week before they happen.    So let me see if I can sort some of this out.   

Power #10: OUTLANDISH Zicky Dice def. Sal Rinauro & CW Anderson

(Note: The above was a triple threat to qualify for the qualification matches listed below.)

Match 1, Power #11: Ricky Starks def. Eddie Kingston

Match 2, Power #11: Question Mark def. Colt Cabana

Match 3, Power #12: Tim Storm def. Royce Isaacs (substituting for Nick Aldis)

Match 4, Power #13: OUTLANDISH Zicky Dice vs. Caleb Konley

Okay, now that I have it laid out in front of me, the tournament isn’t too complicated.   What was throwing me off was the way all these matches have been called “qualifying matches”, and Zicky has to win two of them.

Also, Trevor Murdoch put his spot in the tournament on the line against Aron Stevens, but he won that match, so it doesn’t actually affect the standings.   

Finally, Nick Aldis had entered the tournament, claiming he wanted to become a double-champion, but he withdrew before his first match.    Storm beat his substitute, Royce Isaacs, sparing us questions about whether Aldis could switch himself back in later on.

As far as I can tell, the tournament itself is going to be held at the NWA Hard Times PPV, and everything before then is just qualifying matches?    But there’s six spots in the brackets, so that’s gonna be sort of awkward.   

The twist with this tournament is that each match has a six-minutes-and-five seconds time limit, which is pretty brisk, so the threat of a time limit draw is very real.   It hasn’t happened yet, but if it does, both participants are eliminated, and someone gets a bye.    That might be why NWA isn’t putting out any sort of brackets for this thing, or announcing whether Starks will face Question Mark or whatever.    With the rules as they are, it kind of makes more sense to wait and see how many participants you have left before assigning the matches.  

It’s also possible that the tournament ends with a triple threat match.    Or maybe they’ll just put a bunch of byes in.
