Might I request a fact about the cutlass fish
Sure!
Daily fish fact #515
Largehead hairtail!
Tumblr media
It has an eellike appearance, with a compressed, long body and a single long dorsal fin! It is an ambush predator, remaining very still in a nearly vertical pose, quickly striking any squid or small fish that comes close! They can even leap out of water due to these ambushes.

Barely an exaggeration
(Image ID: A drawing of several deepsea fish. On the right is "most deepsea fish". They are all ghastly and uncanny in some way. The category includes the mirrorbelly, a vertical schooling of cutlassfish, the pelican eel, the silver spinyfin, and the stoplight loosejaw. On the left is the "the deepest deepsea fish", which only has one fish. This is a type of snailfish: a very cute, puppylike scaleless fish that is the deepest recorded fish in the world. End ID)

Note
I found out about four members of Arlong's crew that have names, they are basically background characters but I thought that they were neat and wanted to share with you in case you didn't know.
Pisaro - Ocean sunfish fishman. He's the musician and plays maracas.
Kaneshiro - Goldfish fishman and the shipwright.
Take - Carp fishman and the commander of parties.
Shioyaki - Salmon fishman. He's the head of banquets.
They all have their own wiki page if you want to see more about them.
Thanks anon! For everyone else,

concept art, some of which made it to the final draft in some capacity
Tumblr media
Top row: (pretty sure that kanji probably says goldfish? these are the types of fish, not their names as far as i can tell), Namazu (giant catfish), Nekozame (catfish), Fugu (pufferfish), Ishidai (striped beakfish), Sake (salmon)
Them two dudes: Tai (a seambream, curiously looks like Chuu tho), *squints dear god Oda ur handwriting) Matoudai (John Dory) (ty @patchiefrog !)
Middle Row: Umiushi (Japanese sea slug), Kinmedai (splendid alphonsino), ?Ankou (? I can't tell if that's a character or scratched out, but ankou means monkfish), Utsubo (moray eel), Haze (goby) Manbou (ocean sunfish)
Bottom Row: Kajiki (oda bro your HANDWRITING) (blue marlin), Yakuro????su i have no idea what this says. It's in hiragana like Nekozame was but I'm having trouble deciphering the middle characters lol, Tachiuo (largehead hairtail/beltfish, which is part of the "cutlassfish" family which sounds cool as hell), Karei (dab), (*dabs*), ......*squints* I'm...too tired to figure out the last one lmao
also fuckin...i was trying to find a pic of the dude with the multi colored hair (the beakfish guy) bc he was in both the manga/anime and the live action but all i can find is this fuckin picture from reddit bc im too lazy to go grab screenshots

i saw the oarfish video and thought to myself oh yeah thats the fish that the sword guy catches in okami (2006) expecting an actual sword. and then when he catches it hes like 'wtf this isnt a sword' and whenever i play thru that part and look at the stylized fish flopping around on the ground i too think to myself 'no thats not a sword is it' but i also think 'buddy it was always going to be a fish though. surely you were not expecting to see a literal sword right. right. sir you knew you were going to get a fish out of this arrangement right'
then upon seeing that video of this oarfish and how it moves underwater n how the light looks on its body, and i wrote up a whole bunch of tags about how yeah that is a sword actually.
except it turns out i was wrong, the fish he caught wasnt the oarfish it was the cutlassfish and i was like Oh goddammit none of those tags where im like 'oarfish look like swords after all mr benkei okami' actually apply because i got the dang fish wrong. so i was going to be like 'well maybe he should've caught an oarfish then'
but THEN out of curiosity i looked up pictures of cutlassfish in real life and what they look like underwater and mr benkei okami my guy . cutlassfish is also a sword actually. what the fuck
youtube
they look like knives hanging out in the water sir put the fishing rod down and stick your head in the ocean you will see
youtube
in conclusion many fishes is sworsd. thank you

Note
Here’s your daily sea creature
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The cutlassfish! Also known as the ribbonfish, the hairtail, the beltfish, and a ton of other names. You probably see fishermen holding them up every now and then as a proud catch. They look pretty normal, until you see one underwater :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Their body is almost metallic, making light reflect off of them in the ocean. They’re predatory and swim upwards in a vertical position. So schooling cutlassfish create this sight.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Don’t get too close to them though, they bite.
Very sorry for putting this off for so long. I had mug cakes that needed to be made, you understand.
Fucking FSM, its unholy teeth. That unsettled me. However, i think you are right, i swear I've seen fishermen holding those up. Are these fish so generic?
Whoa, nope nevermind nevermind. That's amazing. They're all like iridescent swords, like needles dancing under the suns glare. The colours!! Almost like a firework show. I love them, thank you.

Grand Josun - Food #2
The next day, we had eaten a Korean style breakfast. There were 8 side dishes and the main thing was abalone porridge – all from Jeju, which means top-notch quality ingredients.
Here's the quick rundown: spicy Kimchi on top left, green spinach below, and tasty Mentaiko right there too. Moving on, crunchy stir-fried burdock, smooth egg custard on the left with a surprise jelly twist underneath. And don't miss the star of the island, Cutlassfish, on the side.
All these flavors together were like a flavor party in our mouths. Plus, the way they set up the dishes was so cool that I had to snap a picture.

Can't believe you're drowning girls for fun
not what I'm doing, what I am doing is: tell girls to walk into a room where they get drowned by a giant octopus; give girls the wrong directions on how to evade poisonous jellyfish; tell girls to go where they will decapitated by cutlassfish (twice); give bad advice on how to evade a crazed aquarium worker turned cannibal (thrice); tell girls to wait for death by nematode parasites with their loved one; and give wrong instructions on how to defeat air-swimming orcas (5 times); but yes it's great fun^^

I am now taken in liking Sephy and just for fun, I thought about what mythology creature he can be.
Mythology (AU?) Sephiroth:
Angel => Fallen Angel, Tengu (warriors with black wings), Were white tiger/snow leopard (silver white big cats), Sphinx (cruel, clever human+lion with wings), Faerie, also known as fairie, fey, or fae (beautiful, cruel, clever, unpredictable), Mermaid/Siren (with other half of Lepidopus caudatus, or Scabbard Fish, a species of cutlassfish, also known as Silver Scabbardfish, Frostfish, Beltfish and Scale-Foot or even the Atlantic cutlassfis as they have no scales. Instead, their long, tapered bodies are covered with shiny, metallic silver skin.) and that all I got for now.
These are good suggestions! His clever and cunning demeanor, which is reminiscent of a snake, makes him an ideal candidate for the role of lamia, which should be taken into consideration as well.
Oh my goodness, I once read a wonderful fic on AO3 where Sephy brutally breeds the poor reader after that sick fuck Hojo confined her in Sephy's habitat for "science purposes". Reader and Sephy had a rough start but they start to develop a good relationship after some time. I think the fic author stopped updating it though :(
